Keychain old password requested

My mac from work ask me for the old keychain password every time I start session, I have to put around 13 times in prompted windows. How can I update this password with the one I start session?

Originally, the keychain password is the same as the login password for the account. The login password can be changed in any of three ways:
By the user, in the Users & Groups preference pane. In this case, the keychain password is automatically changed to the new login password
By the administrator (if different), also in the preference pane. The keychain password is not changed.
By anyone who has physical access to the computer, in Recovery mode. The keychain is replaced by a new, empty one with the new password, and the old keychain is saved with the old password.
To change a keychain password, launch the Keychain Access application and select the keychain from the list on the left. If the list isn't showing, select
          View ▹ Show Keychains
from the menu bar, or press the key combination command-K. Then select
Edit ▹ Change Password for Keychain...
You must know the old password in order to set a new one. Otherwise you'll have to reset the keychain.

  • How to stop frequent keychain login password requests

This problem is very irritating, I’m getting asked frequently by OS X to enter a keychain login password.  What I’ve read suggests this is related to a problem with Keychain Access.  One explanation says it can be caused by an administrator account password change where the default keychain password does not change, resulting in an inconsistency.  I have NOT changed my account password so I don’t think this is the cause of my problem.
I’ve also tried using Keychain Access First Aid, but it currently finds no problems.
In my case, this appears to have started after an upgrade from OS X Mavericks to Yosemite.  When I did the upgrade, the first problem I encountered was Mail stopped working – I was unable to send or receive mail.  I could, however, go to my mail provider at their web site and view mail there just fine.  That problem was resolved by using Keychain Access First Aid - I can now use Apple Mail on my "Air" just fine, but I’m still being inundated with frequent requests to enter a keychain login password.  I get these requests from Mail, AddressBookSourceSync, Messages Agent, Safari, Local Items, CalendarAgent, and com.apple.MailServiceAgent.xpc.
Once I enter my login password to 3-5 of these requests, I’m able to continue working on my Macbook Air, however once I close and reopen the lid of my Air, the requests start anew.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Keychain Login: Password Requests, Login=Pinwheel

I recently had to reset my apple ID and now upon restart, Claendar Agent, Messages Agent, com.apple.icloudhelper.xpc, mail and accountsd all request the keychain password.  Unfortunately, what I type does not seem correct.  When I open Keychain Access and attempt to login, I get a pinwheel...
Does anyone know what has changed that would cause these password requests and more importantly how to make them stop?

Please take these steps to resynchronize the iCloud keychain. Your keychain on iCloud and your other Apple devices won't be affected. Take Step 2 only if Step 1 doesn't solve the problem.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.
    Step 2
If you still have problems, uncheck the Keychain box again and continue.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    ~/Library/Keychains
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "Keychains" should open. Inside it is a subfolder with a long name similar to (but not the same as) this:
               421DE5CA-D745-3AC1-91B0-CE5FC0ABA128
The above is only an example; yours will have a different name of the same general form. Drag the subfolder (not the Keychains folder) to the Trash and empty.
Restart the computer and re-enable iCloud Keychain.

  • Idsyncwin does not invalidate old passwords

I am using Identity Synchronization for Windows (part of DSEE 11g) to replicate MSAD accounts into an organization maintained in DSEE, one-way. This works acceptably, except for one nit, which may be a problem to complete the POC demonstration: a change of user password in MSAD does not propagate into DSEE reliably.
To be more specific, when the password is changed in Active Directory, ISW does detect the change and sets dspswvalidate:true as is expected. If the DSEE user logs in with the new MSAD password, this password is validated against MSAD, succeeds, and is saved into DSEE. Likewise, login with a random password fails as expected.
However, if the user logs in with his old DSEE password, the validation against MSAD is logged as successful (which is apparently wrong), but the old DSEE password remains in place. The dspswvalidate flag is cleared and the user no longer has a chance to log in with a Windows password - the old DSEE password remains in place.
I see that when provisioning new users, ISW can place an invalid string into userpassword attribute... can it do the same when it detects changes in the upstream MSAD data, so the user has no possibility to log in with an obsolete password?
Since the ISW is a bit of esoteric and old product with little change from DS5.x times (though works fine with current DSEE and MSAD), possibly a solution would be to make some plugin for DSEE that would detect changes to the dspswvalidate flag and invalidate a password?.. Any ideas how to do this, if all else fails?
    Thanks in advance,
    //Jim Klimov

So... status update: the problem has been traced to MSAD - the domain controllers trust both the user's new password and the previous password for 5 minutes, which leads to DSEE testing the old passwords if the clients request it to (i.e. regular mail checks), trusting them and saving them for posterity (and removing the flag to verify passwords via MSAD).
The Windows team was not able to remove this behaviour from domain controllers. It is also probably infeasible to change their password-changing procedure to change it twice (so as to forget the previous password completely), or to instantly (programmatically?) log in to DSEE via convergence or ldapsearch or whatever with the new password, or to manually change the email password as well - especially when end-users can change their domain passwords too.
So the problem remains: old passwords are verifiable via MSAD and thus trusted by DSEE, so for example regular messaging tasks running on behalf of users might practically prevent propagation of updated passwords from MSAD domain into DSEE/CommSuite.
One solution that I see is to have DSEE (maybe via its ISW plugin) not remove the dspswvalidate flag for a configurable timeout after it first detected the password-change event on another directory source. This way for some 10 minutes (for example) after the MSAD-initiated password invalidation, DSEE would re-validate against the domain, ultimately making sure that the saved-to-trust password is the new one.
Another idea is to test the user-provided cleartext password against (a copy of) the old DSEE userPassword hashed value, and not save the password if it is positive against both the MSAD domain and old DSEE password.
Both of those ideas rely on changes to the ISW plugin which we can not do to the closed-source program.
A bolt-on solution might be to make a script that runs every minute from crontab, detects new DSEE invalidations and saves a timestamp. Then for those example 10 minutes it would restore the requirement to validate against MSAD, if it detects the invalidation flag cleared during this time. I can foresee how this would NOT work and increase helpdesk calls, with lags upon logins after the password change, on-and-off trust of DSEE to one or another password, and mostly with automated email tasks firing within that minute between script runs so that the password change event, setting of the flag, validation of old password and clearing of the flag all happen before the bolt-on script would detect that anything happened.
MAYBE though, it can parse cn=changelog for a verifiable history of events to detect appearances of the validation flag - even if it has been cleared by the time the script runs...
Still, the bolt-on sounds like an unreliable solution, though doable.
Are there any other ideas or practical advices, remaining withing the constraints of MSAD + DSEE + IdSyncWin? (Implementation of IAMS in particular, to unify this and other identity management is considered, but as a separate project and purchase - so some solution is needed for what they have today)
    Thanks,

  • HT2518 How do you reset the password on a migrated user account? Mac wants the old password putting in before we can set a new password and the old password won't work.  How do we get around this?

Used Migraton Assist to transfer data from old Dell PC onto new Macbook Pro.  Data has come across but cannota access the User Account from the Dell.  It is displayed on the desktop of the Mac but is requesting and new password.  Before we can reset the password we have to put in the old password.  We have put in the old password but it doesn't work and therefore we can't reset the password and get into the User Account.
How do we get around this problem so that we can access the User Account.
Although the data has transferred we cannot see our contacts transferred from Outlook into Mail.  We are wondering if they are contained within our User Account, but can't find out until we can access the it?
    Help wold be much appreciated.

  • We are an inner city youth organization, we purchased 30 emac computers for the kids.we can not get the old password off the accounts page for the internet

We can't get on to the internet, all the account numbers are correct and it says we are connected, but the last step it wants to get the old password in order for us to open on to the internet. How do we find and remove the old password.
We can't find the password or get it from the school we received the computer from.

    Go to System Preferences
    Click Network
    Highlight AirPort and click Configure...
Choose “By default, join: Preferred networks”
Select your access point and Remove your access point with the minus button.
Launch your keychain access in Utilities and delete your access point keychain entry.
    Reboot
Go back to the “By default, join:” page and click the plus this time to add your access point. Enter the correct password, save, reboot.
Instead of joining it from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed. Before I went through network diagnostics and all of that stuff in system preferences, and then I tried the "Join Other Network" method, and now it works like a dream.

  • Selling iPod classic 160G don't remember old password, won't restore

    Hi,
I have read all the answers to restoring my ipod classic to sell, and have already tried restore.
When I hit restore, itunes requests apple id & password.
My problem:  This ipod classic was set up under an old apple id & password that I do not remember.
It does not in the end, restore, that I can tell.  So I manually deleted everything and it is now empty, but not "restored".  (Is there a difference?)
Here is my question:  Is it enough to simply delete all my content manually, rename it to a generic name, and sell it?
Or do I need to contact Apple, find out my old password, and restore?  I want the new owner to not have any trouble setting it up.
Thanks so much for your time!

  • Strange behaviour - Wrong old password

    Hi all,
    I use SAP EP 7.0 SPS10
when using Basic Authentication and the default SAP Logon Screen I observed the following behaviour.
When a user is requested to change his/her password, the "change password"
screen is shown. Now the user can enter the "old" password, a new password (and confirm this password).
When the user enter the wrong old password, no reasonable error message is shown.
Instead of a error message the "welcome screen" is shown again...
-> Our users are confused by this behaviour, because he/she thought the password change was successful. Than he/she tries to logon with the changed new password (but as in fact the password changing was not sucessful after three
times of logon trials, the password logon is locked. This generates a lot of support cases, which could be easily prevented in case of an error message ("wrong old password")
Is this a matter of configuration?
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Regards Karin

    Hi all,
I tested a little bit around and found the behaviour when entering a wrong password
in any case is a bit strange.
When entering it on the default welcome page, no error message is displayed and
just the empty welcome screen is shown again.

  • Constant password request pop-up!

How can I get an old user ID password request to stop popping up on my iphone? My Apple ID has been successfully changed, but this request, related to an earlier email address, keeps popping up. Any password I try to enter fails, but if I cancel the request the pop-up goes away. This began happening after the latest IOS 6 update. Going into my account with the old user ID in question and requesting the lost password be sent to me produces nothing.

I have found that frequent user ID - password requests are directly related to Game Center.  My recommendation is to go to Game Center, and sign out of it (except when you're using it).  That should help a lot.

  • How to automize Self-control [Internet blocker] / bypassing password request?

    Hey  there,
I hope someone on here may be able to help with this. I figured it might be good to ask about this on a popular board geared towards general non-technical user like myself.
I use  the app SelfControl [http://selfcontrolapp.com]  to help me manage my internet addiction. The app's great. It really helps--when it's running.
I've been trying to set it up so it automatically starts at certain times of the day [i.e. every day 10pm-7am], Using the guide found here [ http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20100801214648362,] I've been able to integrate SelfControl into my iCal, to set it up as a recurring iCal event.
But SelfControl requires my admin password to  actually initiate the the internet block. So right now, I have to manually enter the password every time iI want to run SelfControl--even when it's automatically launched as an event from iCal. This kind of makes the app useless as I can just not enter the password and continue surfing endlessly.
Basically, I need  some help figuring how to bypass the password request/have it inputted automatically. I did try following the instructions found in the above link about using keychain access, etc but none of it seemed to work--SelfControl still prompts me for my password.
I am hoping someone here can help me out; the instructions in the above page are a little too technical for me to fully comprehend (and the forum linked above is now permanently closed)
I'm the only user of my laptop, if that makes a  difference. I am running OS 10.10.1 Yosemite.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Kursty

  • Safari 7.0.5 problem-- I can't erase saved passwords-- I delete it in Preferences, it keeps entering the old password. I just got locked out of a bank account-- AGAIN!

I changed my password for an important account.
I deleted the old password under preferences on Safari.
I entered the new password and it asked to save it.
Next time I went to the account----it entered the old password--- and after three tries, I was locked out of the account.
I re-did the whole process--- it happened again!
    Help!

Passwords saved by Safari are actually stored in Keychain Access.
Open Keychain Access located in   HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the website you are trying to change the password for top right corner of the Keychain Access window.
That website keychain should be there.
Then right or control click that keychain then click Delete.
Then back to Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
Then select the Passwords tab then delete the the website. Make sure: AutoFill user names and passwords is selected.
Now go to the bank account website and try changing your password.

Have tried to reset default keychain - 'specified keychain could not be found' so not possible. Any help please?  System OSX 10.9.4 using Mavericks.

How does one prevent the incessant demands for keychain access? It never happened previously except rarely ...
The keychain issue appears to have affected the Mail service and the computer has slowed with plenty of spinning disc time. Have run virus scan (Sophos) and verified disc no issues.
