Keychain password change

I think my girlfriend changed my password to keychain access. it used to be the same as my login. now mail, safari, etc. apps ask for a keychain password but when i use my login password it says invalid. How can i change my keychain password back?

You can try this:
Tutorial: Keychain issues; resolving
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password.
This can be accomplished via the following process:
Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities
Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
Click the "First Aid" tab
Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
Close the Preferences window
Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
Enter your username and password
Click the "Repair" button
Another option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible.
This can be accomplished as follows:
Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting "New Keychain"
You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, enable root user.
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, Keychain may be to blame.
For example, it appears that in some cases, failures in .Mac synchronization transfers are linked to issues with Keychain.
If you are having problems synchronizing data with .Mac servers, you may want to try the following process:
Open System Preferences and access the .Mac pane
Click the "Sync" tab
Uncheck the "Synchronize with .Mac" checkbox
Close System Preferences
Re-open System Preferences and repeat steps 1 and 2
Re-check the "Synchronize with .Mac" checkbox
If the above process does not re-allow synchronization, you may need to leave Keychain synchronization turned off in the "Sync" tab of the .Mac System Preferences pane.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

  • Keep  getting Keychain password changed alert after removing password

I Keep getting a "Keychain password changed" alert after removing a user account password my mother applied to the account and then forgot. How do I keep this message from continuing to appear?
I am not really sure how the keychain system works as I have never used it on my own Mac.

keychain is where you store the passwords you use on various websites, in mail and other apps. I suspect you use it too. but it's normally quite unobtrusive.
by default the password to unlock the keychain is the same as the account password. but this does not have to be and you can change it. when you reset the account password the keychain password was not reset. unless you can recall the old account password the old keychain is of no use to you. go to the folder homedirectory/library/keychains and delete the file login.keychain (or move it somewhere else). then log out/in. a new empty keychain will be created with the password the same as the new account password and you can start saving passwords in that.

  • TS1544 I am the administrator of my MacBook Pro, which I share with my kids. One of them forgot his password, so as the admin I changed it for his account, but  when I try to see his account, it says I need to provide the keychain password. How can i get

I am the administrator of my MacBook Pro, which I share with my kids. One of them forgot his password, so as the admin I changed it for his account, but  when I try to see his account, it says I need to provide the keychain password. How can i get it? I have no idea how to sort this out...

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
You must back up all data before continuing, unless you've already done so. If you need to back up but can't log in, ask for instructions.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead the instructions on this page:
If you forget the password and FileVault is on

  • Can't change macbook keychain password , 'invalid entry'

    Hi,
One of our users has iMac, 10.6.8.
She has not got any local account.
She logs on to AD domain, with domain ID
When after 40 days or so she is asked the change the password; it does not work.
If we change it for here through AD or through another Windows PC, it works.
Could you please let me know the best course of action for this type of users who are not administrators of iMac?
I tested by changing my account's PAssword and it worked( I have administrative role).
    Kind regards

  • How do I reset or change all the keychain passwords?

Is there away to change all of them?

If there is a way to change them all at once would be nice. I've tried using the keychain access app and that just confused me even more.
The reason I'm changing the password is I updated to Leopard and now the systme is asking for a keychain password for whatever I try to do?

    Hello Leela24,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have changed your phone number but your iCloud Keychain verification number is still your old phone number. You can edit this phone number in your iCloud settings on your iPhone. Please use the attached article for information on the process.
Get help using iCloud Keychain - Apple Support
Make sure that the correct phone number is associated with your account:
In iOS 8, tap Settings > iCloud > Keychain > Advanced. In iOS 7, tap Settings > iCloud > Account > Keychain. Make sure the phone number under Verification Number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.
    Happy holidays,
    Joe

  • HT1222 how can i change the old owners keychain password into mine

how can i change an old owners keychain password into mine so i can update software

    Create a new keychain.
I'd generally suggest acquiring and wiping and installing the most recent version of OS X onto the system that it'll support, as you'll spend more time and effort undoing what was done before.  You can usually get the proper distro with a call to Apple.
Given the iBook is PPC, you'll be limited to Leopard (10.5) at most, and possibly not that version.

I forgot my Keychain password and I can't log in or access my applications folder to change it. Help?

  • How do I change my keychain password on my iMac?

Currently my login password and my keychain password are the same in OSX 10.9.1.  For additional security, how do I change my keychain password so that it is different from my login password?

don't think that's possible your login if you are administrator on the computer is what goes in the keychain too
if you want to give access to people to the computer whom you do not trust with the keychain access then you should consider making user accounts for them with the rights you choose

  • TS1544 Changing system keychain password

I've changed my login password in my keychain - to something more secure than the password hurriedly set up at purchase.. I am unable to change the system keychain password to match my new administrator/login keychain password. I have an admin account and my own user account, both with administrator privelages. Any ideas?

    Thanks baltwo
To clarify, I only have one admin account, just changed the login keychain password and account password to be something more secure.
Does this mean I have to delete/remove the admin user account to delete the sytem.keychain? or can I delete the system keychain only without having to rebuild a new account....If the latter, do I just find the MacintoshHD/Library/Keychains/system.keychain and delete? I can't imagine it's that simple.

My iMac running 10.7.5 has suddenly developed the habit of asking for my keychain password every 10 minutes or so.  iTunes, mail and airport are the usual requesters. It's making me nuts!  And no, I have not recently changed my password to start this new issue.

    Hello dowaco
Try running Keychain First Aid on your keychain or just rese your Keychain to create another keychain to see if that resolves the issue of the repeated prompts for the password.

  • Constantly asking to update or change keychain password?!

I got my logic board replaced by Apple, and ever since whenever I log in it asks me to update or change my keychain password, and whichever one I click it reasks me it the next time. What can I do to make this message go away?
Also, whenever I change my desktop background, it goes back to the one I had with the old logic board when I log out - I think it has to do with the same problem.
    Can anybody please help me????

It isn't iSync that keeps popping up. iSync is only for syncing Contacts and Calendars to third-party mobile phones and PDAs. It has nothing at all to do with syncing Mail or syncing anything between multiple Macs.
What you're using is the Mail syncing part of *MobileMe Sync*, and the correct forum for that is here:

  • My keychain password is not working - how do I change it?

All of a sudden, I started getting messages saying I needed to input the keychain password. I tried resetting my user password - didn't help. I tried deleting the local keychain, but it is grayed out and won't let me. I cannot access my email as it repeatedly asks for my passwords for the email accounts, yet it does nothing when I type it in other than ask for it again.

Click here and perform a soft reset.
