  • Keychain password ??? What is it?

Dear all, I have an Intel Mac with Tiger.
I have never set up a keychain password but Safari and iWeb - and also others -ask me for it regularly. If I type in my system password it is not accepted - just like any other password I have ever used. I am unable to publish my site with iWeb without the keychain and it is really unconfortable to keep on clicking "cancel" when to pop-up window appears in the middle of work.
Is it possible to set a new keychain password or convince the system that I can live without any keychain password?
    Thank you in advance.
    Laszlo

The Problem arrises because your Login PW and your Keychain PW are different.
Possibly you changed your Login PW in the past?
Launch Keychain Access in Applications>Utilities, find the place to reset the PW there... I'm on Leopard at the moment, which no longer has Keychain Access.

  • Every 20 seconds a box appears saying 'Safari (or mail or calendar or iCloud) wants to use "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.' How can I eliminate the need to keep on putting in my password?

Every 20 seconds or sooner a box appears asking for my keychain password. It can be for Safari, Mail, Calendar, iCloud. How do I get rid of this?

go to the Keychains Menu>Keychain First-Aid and select "repair". If any errors appear, rerun until you get a clean pass.

  • How come I have to put in a keychain password every time safari or mail is opened? Is there a way I can disable it or save the password so it doesn't pop up every time?

How come I have to put in a keychain password every time safari or mail is opened? Is there a way I can disable it or save the password so it doesn't pop up every time? Also, I have my mail account set up from my Yahoo! account and every time I open mail, it asks for the password for my Yahoo! account. I have checked save this password to keychain and it persists on popping up repeatedly.

You don't want to disable keychain (if there's even a good way to do so), since it stores stuff like certificates and the such.  It's quite useful.
Anyways, Keychains>Preferences>First Aid.  Check Set Login Keychain as default.  When you login, it unlocks the keychain.
    That should help you.

  • Safari keeps asking for non-signin keychain password

My macbook Pro running OSx10.x keeps asking me for the password for a non-sign-in keychain every time Safari boots-up.

I had similar problems but with me it was the AirPort keychain.
Here's the advice I followed from (16.1.1.1) was in this thread, courtesy of Jim R:
    Hi all,
The trick is to delete the keychain item in the system keychain for the resource that's giving you the trouble, e.g. Airport network password.
    1. Open the Keychain program
    2. Select System keychain.
    3. Select the keychain item you want to delete, and choose Delete from the Edit menu (you won't need to enter a password).
    4. Next time you enter the password to access the network and save to keychain, the item will be recreated.

You should find Keychain app in your Utilities folder.

  • Safari Keychain Password

    Hello,
    My k0mp00ter skillz arent goodly.
I'm migrating over from IE to Safari, and everytime I look up, there's a pop up, asking for my keychain password. Well, I have no clue WTH it is. I dont ever remember messing with Safari to make a password. As of right now, Safari is letting me do whatever I need, but that **** pop up is annoying.
Is there a way to reset my Safari Keychain thingie, so I know for sure what my password is? Is there a way I can go digging in Macintosh HD to find the password. Should I shoot my Mac?
    Regards,
    Brian

    Hi Oly
did you do this, from the helper in keychainaccess
2nd option for safari keychain autofill:
    ( Deleting a keychain
If your keychain has become inaccessible for some reason (for example, if you've forgotten the password), you can delete it and manually create a new keychain.
When you delete the keychain, you have two options:
    ▪ Delete References removes the keychain from the keychain list but does not remove the keychain file from your disk. If you remember your password later, you can recover the items stored in the keychain by choosing File > Add Keychain and opening this file.
➔ ▪ Delete References & Files removes the keychain from the keychain
list and removes the file from your disk. You might choose this if the
file is corrupted or damaged in some way and you don't want to recover it
    1) Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities.
    2) Click Show Keychains if the keychain drawer is closed, then select the keychain you want to delete.
    3) Choose File > Delete "keychain" (the command will show the name of the selected keychain).
    4) Click Delete References or Delete References & Files. )
Also what happens if you Un-check "Autofill items in Safari preferences?
i have it off on both 10.3.9 & Tiger 10.4.4 on power book.
    let us know, Eme

  • Please Help With Keychain Access and Safari Passwords!

    Hello,
I would like to take advantage of the capabilities that Keychain Access has to offer... I like how it can store passwords from websites. I have stored several website passwords in Keychain Access and currently have it set to where it asks for my keychain password when first opening Safari, and then it automatically fills in my passwords that are stored in Keychain Access in the corresponding websites. However, when I close Safari completely, the next time I open Safari it already has my passwords filled in, without asking for my keychain password. The only way I have found to make Safari ask for my keychain password every time it is opened is to select "lock all keychains" in Keychain Access. It is a pain to have to open Keychain Access every time I close Safari in order for Safari to ask for my keychain password again. Is there a more simple way to make Safari ask for my keychain password everytime I open Safari?

Hi, okwildthing. Welcome to the forums!
    Try this:
Open Keychain Access and find "Safari Forms AutoFill" in the list. Double-click it and go to the "Access Control" tab. (You may need to enter your keychain password at this point.) Remove Safari from the "Always allow access by these applications" list. Press "Save Changes."
Does this get Safari to do what you want it to do?

  • Mail and Safari keep asking me for my Keychain password

    Hi all,
I've read several posts and tried some suggestions but it did not solve my problem:
Some weeks ago, I completely re-installed MacOS on my iBook and copied my libraries and personal folders from my external harddrive back to the laptop. Everything works fine except one thing: Everytime I open Mail after starting the iBook it asks me for entering my Keychain password (it does not happen when I receive or send mail, only when opening for the first time after starting). When I use Safari and need to enter a username and password it asks the same. It's a dialogue box I've never seen before, I cannot check that it should remember the password, it only shows a field for entering the password and two additional info fields.
I tried Keychain First Aid: There was a problem that could be resolved but it did not solve my problem. I've checked and unchecked the suggested boxes - nothing happened. Anybody out there who's got a clue what's up with my Keychain?
    Thank you very much!

    Hi,
never mind because of the name thing, it happens all the time.
Thanx! I repaired my disk permissions - my problem stays the same.
I'm not sure how I delete the Key Chain prefs and start from scratch - could you give me a short how to? I'm not that technically gifted.

  • Keychain password required in Mail and Safari on first use

    Hi,
I use Carbon Copy Cloner to set up all our new machines and it works fine. I have a user called blank_user within the users folder. When I need to make a new user for a machine I make the user, login as root and then copy the files from blank_user to the new user. I then chown -R username /users/username and that works fine.
The problem is whenever a user opens mail or safari they are asked for the keychain password. This is the password set in blank user and is accepted. Although all the users know this password they are getting fed up with having to type it in.
Does anyone know how to stop this and why a 'chowned" account does this? Have I missed something about keychain?
    Any ideas most welcome.
    Best wishes
    Michael

    Hi, Michael.
If you set up a new account normally, i.e. using the Admin ID on the Mac and creating a new account via System Preferences > Accounts, then the keychain password for the new account's default keychain would be set to the login password of the account.
Since you're going about the new user task in a very roundabout way, the new account's keychain password is that copied from blank_user.
Have the user reset the keychain password to be the same as their account's login password using the instructions in "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Changing your keychain password."
Note that by default, the user's default keychain will lock again after a period of inactivity or sleep depending on its settings. To check and perhaps prevent this, one first wants to select the user's default keychain in the Keychains list, then select the following in Keychain Access: Edit > Change settings for keychain keychain_name where keychain_name is the name of the keychain currently selected in the Keychains list.
The user's default keychain appears in bold in the Keychains list. For accounts created under Mac OS X 10.3 and later, the name of the default keychain is login. For accounts created under prior versions of Mac OS X, the default keychain name is the same as the user's short name.
Note that some of the information above is from the "Keychains" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
    Good luck!

  • Requesting Safari Keychain Password

For some reason my computer constantly is asking me for a safari keychain password. I have no idea what it is as it won't accept my normal sign on password. How do I stop this? I clicked on details and one time I was able to get to where it talks about this and I thought I had deleted something but it's still popping up. Do I have to use this feature? Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to get this to stop?

  • Use Keychain to find or store password with Safari

    Hello Guys,
I wonder how I could use Keychain to find my forgotten password on hotmail with Keychain. Do we need to activate something? I'd really like to know.
At least, do you know how to set my Safari, so I can store my passwords?
    Thanks!

provided you actually ever stored the password in the keychain, open keychain Access, locate the keychain entry for hotmail, double-click on it and check the box to show password. you'll have to enter you keychain password at this point which is your login password by default.

  • Safari won't remember any keychain passwords

Hi, so for some reason Safari has stopped remembering any of my passwords for websites. Is there a reason for this I just don't know of, or is there a setting somewhere that needs changed. I checked keychain access and tried adding them that way, but that didn't work. Thanks,
    Shawn

If you remember the website passwords, you can enter a wrong password, when Safari asks if you want to save it say no, and then enter the correct one, when it asks whether you want to save this one, say yes. If you don't remember the correct passwords, perhaps, if you have one, you can get them from your back-up.
