Keychain Problem - Snow Leopard

I am unable to access a password on Keychain because access is restricted when I attempt to use my administrator password. I have deleted library permissions, restarted, and used Time Machine for an earlier version but no success.  Any help is welcomed.  Thanks.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item.

If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Boot problem - Snow Leopard on USB flash drive

Built a fresh install of 10.6 on a USB flash drive.  The steps I took to do this were:
Installing from 10.6.3 install disc onto an external firewire drive with minimal install option.  Drive is hooked into a Mac Pro station
Booted to external drive, installed updates to get to 10.6.8.
Carbon Copy Cloaner the external firewire OS to a 32gb Patriot USB drive
Removed the external drive, then forced the station to boot to the USB drive
The behavior I get is a startup chime, then the grey Apple logo, but NO spinning gear.  No other types of signs or symbols come up for roughly 5 minutes. The system then reboots itself and chimes.  Then repeat until I hard shutdown and make it boot back to the Mac Pro's internal HDD.
I also tried installing the OS disc directly to the flash drive ( after formatting it ) but it does the same thing.  Chime - logo - no gears - reboot.
The drive itself works as I've used it for other purposes and I can see the files on there.  The access light is blinking so it appears to be trying to communicate with the computer.
Did I miss a step somewhere?

  • Coloured Labels problem, snow leopard

    Hi,
Our studio uses coloured labels in our work flow however we have small conflict in which our new 27" imac is unable to change the label colour of specific folders that we use in our studios workflow so that the colour updates on our other macs connected to our company's server. The 24" mac and 15" macbook work fine together, however still cant get the 27" imac to work.
The 27" imac is running on snow leopard. The 24" imac & a 15" Macbook pro (2007) both running on original leopard.
The three macs are connected to our company's main server which runs on Windows 2003 server.
I recently migrated my user account from the 24" imac to the new 27" imac. My old user account on the 24" imac has been disabled and a new on is now been used
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks Scott

Try to scrub the current install, and install a new driver package via Apple Software Update:
    1) Click on Go menu (Click the desktop, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page)
    2) Select Applications
    3) Select the Hewlett Packard Folder (if it is not there, then you can skip this entire step)
    4) Select HP Uninstaller
    5) Click on Continue
    6) Select the printer.  press and hold Control + Options + Command (Apple) keys on the keyboard simultaneously.
    7) Click on Uninstall
    8) You will get a popup window - "Are you sure you want to uninstall all HP Software packages"
    9) Click on OK to continue
After doing this, readd the printer via the "+" symbol.

  • Keychain problems since Leopard?

I never saw the term 'keychain' or knew of its existence until upgrading to Leopard. Since the upgrade, various downloads or upgrades of other softwares have found issues with the 'keychain'. Issues such as: keychain can't be found, cannot store to keychain, do you want to restore to defaults, and others.
I recently upgraded to MS Office 2008 for Student & Home, and the 'keychain' reference came into play when I tried to register the product.
I really don't understand the term 'keychain', and since upgrading to Leopard I have had more references to the 'keychain' term. Where is the 'keychain' used, what is it exactly, and how can I repair it or at least make it work properly?

    Hi 1parkpointer;
    Keychain remembers passwords for you.
I would suggest that you repair permissions first. If that doesn't correct the problem with Keychain, I would suggest that you repair opening Keychain Access from Utilities. Then open Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Access menu. This will open a pane where you have to give admin user name and password then click Repair.

  • Install Problem Snow Leopard

    Hi all
I tried installing SL on my 2007 iMac, and about 25% of the way from the progress bar, the machine restarted. Then it appeared to continue, but after a few minutes I got a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark telling me its not possible to install SL on this disk.
I quit the installer and restarted the machine with the mouse button pressed, I got this idea from another thread with a similar issue, to eject the SL disk.
The machine has now restarted and everything seems to be back to normal, with my old Leopard OS.
Why does this happen:? How can I install SL?
    J

Usually this message arises when the partition is not GUID. I recall one case like your's where the message was received, and the partition was GUID. In this case, the OP solved the problem by bootably cloning Leo to an external drive, installing Sno on the external, testing the new installation thoroughly, and then cloning it back to his internal. If you take this approach, note that you will end up without a Leo installation to go back to unless you partition the external and make two bootable clones of your Leo install--one on each partition. Or unless you have a TM complete backup on one partition.

  • Mac book pro 13 (v8.1) airport connection problem snow leopard

    Hi!
my MBP 13 (8.1). on Snow OS. It's 2 day old and I have a serious bug!  It was working perfect until batery power down... now won't connect to ANY WIRELESS. I can't turn on and off the airport on my laptop!
My network is an airport extrem (7.5.2). I own an older MBP (1.1) work perfect! I changed all possible setting of the airport (rebust network, 5ghz, 2.4ghz, 801a/b/n, password/no password, default setup, reset, etc...) nothing work for the new laptop anymore, and i did restart, change airport setting, bla bla bal...!
I will try to reset the 2 tings talked over other threads (SCM and PRCAM or something like so...), but ****, it's brand new, don't feel like reset a 2 day old computer... I've been using mac over 20 years, profesionnaly, and now i'm getting despointment... and big time!
    Thx!

If it's not your hard drive and it's not your system that leaves either your user account or your connection. But that wouldn't account for trash error messages.
Have you tried repairing your usser account by
Booting up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
From the menu bar choose Utilities then select Terminal.
    At the prompt type resetpassword
    Press return
The Password reset utility will launch (do not reset password)
Instead, click your Mac hard drive.
Then from the drop-down select the user account you want to repair. At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled ‘Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs’. Click the Reset button there.
The process takes a couple of minutes. When it’s done, quit the programs you’ve opened and restart your Mac.
If it's not that then you need to go to System Preferences > Users & Groups and remove your Login Items and test. I know the problem is that it's intermittent but you'll need to run w/o them for a while or in a fresh test account to see.

  • Word printing problem snow leopard

When I print a Word document to my wireless HP 8600 printer, it will not print.  It sits in the print queue and ties up the printer - but no printed output is produced.  If I print from other MS applications such as Excel, they work fine.  I usually have to reboot my iMac to clear the print problem.

  • DW menu item font problems Snow Leopard

I am having a problem in Dreamweaver with the font used for menu items. Out of PS, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver this is the only Adobe program where this problem is evident. I have tried many resolutions on the computer such as clearing font casche, diabling fonts, changing font charastics within DW, installing the latest PS font patch from apple, etc. If anyone has anything I can try to resolve this problem I would appreaciate it.

I've been using Lion since it's release, it's fine.  Don't know what's holding you back.
Did you take a higher res screenshot and run it through what the font?  From a glance I'm guessing at Conceilian outline, White Wolf.  And upgrading won't solve this problem because the font will still reside on the system.  An OS upgrade does not remove your custom fonts. It's going to be a process but you might just have to go through every outline font on your system.

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I cannot make gradients in Photoshop that have transparency in them.  They always come out as a solid color.  Anyone else experiencing the same?

lost  their transparency.  Even in the little preview bar the transparency

  • Snow Leopard: Mail doesn't remember passwords no on login keychain

I keep my mail passwords in a separate keychain.
Prior to 10.6, I would only have to unlock the keychain and grant Mail access to the passwords.
Now, with Snow Leopard, I'm bugged to enter my keychain password every hour or so. It's completely busted.
I've tried deleted the passwords and re-entering them. Also tried moving the passwords onto anothey keychain.
    Can anyone suggest a workaround?

I'm have exactly the same problem. both my accounts are hotmail and even if i fill in passwords both in the pop up box and in pref -accounts it bounces!
I shall await with interest on a reply from apple!

  • Snow leopard mail keychain failure

My Mac Pro is set up with Lion and is syncing fine with Mail. My Laptop is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and yesterday it sarted asking for password for my mobile.me acc. I looked in Keychain and the password is there. Mail will not get around this issue on the laptop. Seems strange that Maill works fine on Lion and as of yesterday will not work on Snow Leopard. Here's a kicker.... my neighbour has had the exact same issue, the same time yesterday, she is running Snow Leopard. She is on her own network ethernet network. Anyone out there have a clue as to what gives here. I can't find any information of server problems reported in our area.

Hello, I think they're slowly nudging people to switch, .mac & MobileMe are going away about July, may as well set it up now.
I understand .mac mail will still come through.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...

  • AT&T Yahoo Mail Problems since Snow Leopard

Before my upgrade to SL I used an AT&T Yahoo POP account in Mail. When I upgraded to SL, the account upgraded without a problem. I am now trying to add my husband's AT&T Yahoo POP account and I keep getting the following message:
"Logging in to the att.net POP server “pop.att.yahoo.com” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages."
All of the settings are correct for both incoming and outgoing servers (I checked them on-line and over the phone with AT&T Technical Support) and the username and password are correct because I am able to log into the account on the web without a problem. The account is also working fine on an iphone.
I also tried re-installing Mail from my Snow Leopard Disk under Custom Installs and that did not help.
    Anyone else having this problem?

Read the ENTIRE thread above and tried just about everything. All of my email accounts that existed before the upgrade seem to be working (POP AT&T account and Mobile Me). I consider myself lucky since so many people on the board can't say that.
No matter what I try, I can't add a new POP AT&T account or an Exchange account. I was able to add an IMAP Gmail account. I keep getting a message telling me that my password for the account I am trying to add has been rejected by the server.
Mail is not saving my password in the settings. I've added it countless times. I've tried with authentication and without. I've changed port settings. I had my ISP open port 25 while on the phone with them without success. I've repaired my keychains. I've deleted SMTP items in my keychain and replaced them. I've done it on my desktop and have created new desktops to try it with. Can't add a new account.
No matter how many times I enter the password (which I know with 100% certainty is correct) I keep getting the rejection message and it never "saves" the password in the Mail preferences.
    Sigh...

  • My mail program frequently asks for passwords that I have provided and saved many times.  I am running Snow Leopard and have run the Keychain repair a few times to no avail.  Is there a fix for this or do I have to find another email program?

I am running Snow Leopard and have run the Keychain repair a few times to no avail.
Is there a fix for this or do I have to find another email program?

This is frequent, not just occasionally.  All cancel does is stop the email from coming through until I provide the password.
I thought about it being on the provider's end but it never happened when I was using Entourage, I just don't particularly like that program.
I don't understand why this problem has gone on so long without Apple doing something to fix it but I will continue to look for alternatives to the Apple Mail program.  If I find a good one I will let all know through avenue.
Thanks again to all who tried to help.
