Keychain problems since Leopard?

I never saw the term 'keychain' or knew of its existence until upgrading to Leopard. Since the upgrade, various downloads or upgrades of other softwares have found issues with the 'keychain'. Issues such as: keychain can't be found, cannot store to keychain, do you want to restore to defaults, and others.
I recently upgraded to MS Office 2008 for Student & Home, and the 'keychain' reference came into play when I tried to register the product.
I really don't understand the term 'keychain', and since upgrading to Leopard I have had more references to the 'keychain' term. Where is the 'keychain' used, what is it exactly, and how can I repair it or at least make it work properly?

Hi 1parkpointer;
Keychain remembers passwords for you.
I would suggest that you repair permissions first. If that doesn't correct the problem with Keychain, I would suggest that you repair opening Keychain Access from Utilities. Then open Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Access menu. This will open a pane where you have to give admin user name and password then click Repair.

  • I chat problem since Leopard upgrade.

I recently upgraded to Leopard, now i chat has an issue. When I click on a buddy, a window opens with my icon and a bubble, however when I type and hit return I see nothing. In addition when my buddy responds I see his/hers icon and bubble briefly then it disappears with no text.

I've been having this same problem since I upgraded to Leopard. Also my buddy list is grey and displays all my contacts online or not. The privacy features also are not accessible and say that I can't change them because I am not logged in, but I am logged in according to the main screen. I am behind a netgear router most of the time and connect wirelessly to an airport express. My provider is Comcast. I have changed the port to 443, tried the fix listed here, tried to fix it using onyx, and I'm sure more. At this point I am using Adium because I can't get iChat to work. I want to use iChat as I really like the new features and it was one of the reasons I upgraded to Leopard in the first place.

  • Garageband facing myriad of problems since Leopard update

Since I've updated my mac to OS X Leopard, and even after all the updates I could get via software update- Garageband is going through some very serious issues that make it impossible to write on the software. Logic Pro v8 is also not working.
Many of these issues are with the interface, such as not being able to view certain instruments- and when I change a track or any other minor alteration.. many of the tracks collapse/fall together so that they overlap and I lose the ability to edit the tracks.
Please tell me that there is a fix out/coming for this.. I'm not in a position to shell out 80 bucks for Garageband (the only iLife app I use besides iTunes) after spending 120 on Leopard. Hopefully Apple won't emulate Microsoft and snub users such as myself.

OMG - after all that my hard disk failed. Long story but all beware ! - My Imac was hot to touch at the top ! So I checked all over and found my vent holes were all blocked. A new disk later and dismantling the old disk showed pin ***** size ebrasions. Glad I backed up. So all problems solved, except - Garage band and the loops - big problems trying to sort that out. So will have to start searching for remedies on that one.
Thanks for your help. Feel that I should've cleaned the Imac. It never occured to me until I touched the top on the Imac. I really thought it was a software issue. So my leason learnt is never leave setting up a backup system until later and clean the vents.

  • Build/Burn Problems since Leopard

    Hello all -
I'm trying to build a DVD with exported Final Cut Pro files with video and audio.
The video compression is Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, audio compression is Integer (Little Indian), 48khz, stereo.
I've built DVDs with these type of files before with no problem.
But, since upgrading to Leopard, I get errors that say, "Error while encoding file". When checking what is not encoding, it could be the audio portion of one file, or the video portion of a different file... AAAAAHH!! It doesn't make any sense. It's wanting me to re-link, but the files haven't been moved, and it even goes right to the file when you hit re-link. And hitting relink does NOTHING. AAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
Anyone have ANY clue what's going on or what I can try?
Thanks in advance for your patience and help,
    Becky

Well, in case anyone else comes across this problem, I thought I'd let you know what I figured out.
We store all our media on an external XSan. I was able to burn DVD projects in DVDSP from this XSan drive previous to Leopard. Now, since the computer upgrade to Leopard, it doesn't like that the files it's trying to burn are on the XSan. So, if I move those files to the local HD, it will burn them just fine. This could also be because we haven't been able to update the XSan to be more compatible with Leopard. Bummer.
The bigger problems is... my HD doesn't have a whole lot of space. So, any big files... like weddings for example... are unable to be copied over. So... I guess until we upgrade our XSan to Leopard, I'm out of luck.
    Anyone else having this trouble?

  • HT204085 Keychain Problems since Maverick update

I'm constantly getting asked for passwords, I took this problem to Apple live chat and I'm still no wiser, everything they told me to do doesn't work.  my login keychain is locked and displaying read only....  See Pic
The advice I got from live support was as below, it didn't work either so I'm left scratching my head....

forgot to attach Apple live support advice:
Here are the steps I mentioned to resolve that password issue you are having.
To reset your administrator password and repair the home permissions and ACL's:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the Command key and the R key on the keyboard. As you turn the computer on, press and hold Command-R before the gray screen appears but after you press the power button.
    3. If you get a language screen, select your language and move forward.
    4. You will now be in the OS X Utilities screen. At the top of the monitor select the Utilities menu.
    5. Select Terminal
    6. In the window that opens, type "resetpassword" (without the quotations, with no spaces and no capitals).
    7. In the new window that comes up select the Macintosh HD at the top, then your user.
    8. Click the button at the bottom right of that window to Reset Home Permissions and ACL's
    9. When it is done, click the Apple menu () at the top left and select Restart

  • Keychain Problem - Snow Leopard

I am unable to access a password on Keychain because access is restricted when I attempt to use my administrator password. I have deleted library permissions, restarted, and used Time Machine for an earlier version but no success.  Any help is welcomed.  Thanks.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • IDvd 06 Keeps crashing since Leopard upgrade

I upgraded my MacBook Pro to leopard back In November, since then, every time I use iDvd 06 It crashes on stage 2, I Installed the 6.0.4 update but still It crashes! It seems this Is quite a common problem since Leopard, Any bright Ideas gratefully received!!

I remember reading that post and I believe the only recommendation was to make sure that the user had the necessary available HD space for working with apps like iDvd. Plus I think the point you made was good in that it would be unlikely these same users have to date filled up their main HD to the point of slowing iDvd. Most these units are but a few months old (if not newer).
Truth is there is no overall solution yet nor a direct answer or solution to this issue (short of software updates in some cases) yet even on these newer models that should run iLife'08 apps flawlessly. iDvd seems to be the major issue while the other apps remain unaffected in the majority of cases.
And like you Fred, I'm starting to suspect the graphics card in a number of these laptops but as of yet I have no direct evidence that this is the case nor if this will resolve most of the issues here. Doesn't hurt to document what has or has not worked to date which I am attempting to do on the following thread even tho it has been marked as solved. The solution posted here may work for some but not all:

Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.
Is there any way to use a 10.5.7 wireless .kext files on Snow Leopard? And where can I find the files?

Ok, I have the fix!! After several frustrating days it finally just works.
    The process:
Upgrade your Macs to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Powercycle your modem AND time capsule / airport TWICE
Reset your time capsule with a pin or paperclip on the back
Follow the prompts to setup your time capsule / airport access
    -- On your Macs
    Go to System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced > TCP/IP
Click "Renew DHCP Lease" then click "Ok"
    Click Apply
    Turn off Airport
    Turn Airport on
    IT WORKS!!!
One of the magical people at tech support walked me through it earlier today. The whole process took about 1.5 hrs because Show Leopard takes about an hour to install on one machine.
    Hope this helps-

Yes you solved your own question, use printer handles color, whcih shodul have been the default. If you do want to experiment with Photohsop manages color, try the CMYK profiles, and send a cmyk file. Only exception is if you print to one of the few RGB printers like a lambda.

  • What's wrong with networking since Leopard?

    Hi,
I'm with Mac since years. I was a PC User once and spent hours with all kinds of network troubles. What convinced me with Mac right in the beginning was easy networking: It just worked!
But since Leopard things got worse: I have several MBP's, iMacs, Airport Extreme's and Airport Express's at different places which I installed, and I face the same problems at EVERY place:
    - I can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility, ...
    - Sometimes only two Macs are allowed to connect to one AExtreme
    - Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
    - After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
    - Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    - connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Now I know about networking, about configuration, I've done this for years. Whatever I do, problems disappear and appear again, at different times, at different places with different hardware.
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.

What's wrong with networking since Leopard?
on my network and many i have setup there have been no problems with leopard. However there are always teething problems with new operating systems. Thankfully with leopard only a tiny percentage of users experience technical difficulties.
can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility,
is it set to use WPA/WPA2
Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
sometimes my macbook pro takes a while to show up any networks if there are lots in the area this is because it is scanning them all.
After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
What kind of router are you using? What happens if you powercycle the router?
    # Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    # connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
Have you tried resetting your AE to default. reinstalling its firmware or checking for a firmware update?
Have you tried changing hte wireless channel your networ is broadcasting on?
What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.
Did you upgrade install your leopard installation or did you do clean (erase) installations?
Have you tried created new network locations?

  • Anyone else having a Problem with Leopard and Photoshop CS3?

I'm using CS3 with Leopard 10.5.4 at work and there are some very aggravating anomalies, that I'd like to nail down to a cause. Most frequently, when switching from apps to P'Shop, the menu bar stays for the previous app, i.e. when going from Finder to P'shop, the menu bar still says Finder and has Finder options. Changing from Lightwave to P'Shop, the menu bar remains Lightwave.
Occasionally, an Adobe app - P'Shop or InDesign - will simply disappear and not come back. The icon in the dock shows it as active, but no amount of clicking, Command-Tabbing will reveal the app and I have to Force Quit, losing unsaved changes.
I have a feeling it's Leopard, since, I've used CS3 on Tiger and CS4 on Tiger and never had a problem.
I'm wondering if upgrading to the latest Leopard would make much of a difference.
Has anyone come across this and found any kind of answers?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    -Vincent

    > Just because it doesn't happen to Phil (who may not use all of the same features of the Suite that others do anyway) does NOT mean that these problems are not real and are not mere PEBCAK.
Right. If someone is having a problem associated with Tiger, it's PEBAK. If Leopard is involved, it's automatically because of Leopard. Apparently, with Apple's latest OS, trouble shooting problems are no longer necessary - just blame it on Leopard and call it a day.
    b FUD
I find the dynamics here really interesting. This thread would have been very different if Vincent had posted with problems involving Tiger. Would have gone something like this:
After admonishing him for not providing more information about his setup by posting the obnoxious big blue link on how to ask questions (ahem - we know NOTHING about his machine or configuration, such as which machine, how much RAM, scratch disk or attached peripherals), there'd be all kinds of trouble shooting advice given - "try a new user", "repair permissions", "run DiskWarrior, and on and on ...
But no, since he mentions Leopard, none of that is apparently necessary and the completely, utterly
    b irresponsible
advice is given ... "that's just the way Leopard is".
Those are some serious problems he's reporting that have nothing to do with Leopard. Something is obviously hosed!
As for discounting my experience because I don't use every app in the suite as extensively as I do Photoshop, I'm FAR more qualified to discuss Leopard and CS issues than Ann or Neil who do not use Leopard at all (and have never used it as far as I know.)
"Others have problems with it", is their battle cry but it's extremely weak. Do I really need to remind you all that these forum are ALWAYS filled with people who have problems, regardless of version or OS? You act as if this forum was a ghost town when Tiger and CS3 were current!
Gee, Ann ... people are STILL reporting problems with 10.5 and CS3? How shocking! Guess what - people are STILL reporting problems with 10.4 and CS3 too! Let me make a prediction - people will have problems with 10.8 and CS9!
    Vincent-
    > I don't really deal with fonts anyway ...
Yes. You do. Even if you never type a single line of text, every application uses fonts to create menus and other GUI items. If one of those fonts are bad, it can create all kinds of problems, including the very problems you mention.
The fact that you don't seem aware of this and you're still using 10.5.4 leads me to believe you're not familiar with the basic practices of maintaining a healthy system. Again, how did you install Leopard on that machine?
Look, if you're simply trying to justify using CS4, go right ahead. It's a worthwhile upgrade in it's own right. However, if you install it on that machine in it's current state, CS4 will NOT fix your problems because you do NOT have a healthy system.
You asked for experiences with Leopard - I can launch every application in both CS3 and CS4 suites
    i simultaneously,
and STILL not have your issues. I haven't experienced anything like your CS3 problems in Leopard - on both a 2006 Mac Pro and a 2008 Macbook.
If you'd like help to try and figure out the real problem, I'm more than happy to help. If not, Adobe will gladly take your money ...

  • Since leopard unable to launch lightroom

Since I installed leopard (now 10.5.1) on my Power PC G4, Adobe Lightroom (latest version) starts to launch but stalls and I am left with a simple menu that allows nothing to be done. No modules showing. I am using latest lightroom and updated my two epson printer drivers. Photoshop elements launches but no luck with lightroom. Any suggestions? I had a similar problem pre leopard with elements and it turned out to be a scanner conflict.
    Thanks
    Dick

To John, Isaac's Dad and DonRicklin,
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help. After a clean install of 1.3.1 the program came up, asked me if I wanted to start a new catalog and all was well. I am amazed that first of all you could do a clean install on what I thought was an upgrade and that someone could figure that this might be the solution. This makes my Christmas. The other truly amazing thing is that there are nice people out there that are willing to give of their time to help perfect strangers. You guys deserve to be congratulated. Now I can get back to getting my printer to cooperate with leopard and the lightroom and elements.
Thanks again and have a great holiday season.

  • X problem post Leopard

Since installing Leopard and whilst working with the power cord plugged in, I accidentally pulled out the cord and it refused to switch to battery. It now cant start up or run on battery - displaying the X.
Anyone had this problem and is it a matter of getting Genius to replace the battery? or is there a setting that prevents it from running off battery?
Also my Macbook 2.0 is staring up a lot slower since leopard. Is this normal?

  • Wireless problem in leopard ... works in XP

Has anyone else had this problem? I get it periodically and it's quite irritating.
I try to connect to a wi-fi access point (right now it's a public access point at a hospital). OSX either won't associate with the access point or if it does it gets a self-assigned IP address (169.xxxxx) In any event it won't work.
However if I boot the same computer into Windows XP using boot camp then the same laptop hooks right up and starts working wirelessly. Also: My iPhone is able to connect to the same access point.
I even tried totally reinstalling OSX fresh on the same computer but I experienced the same problem. (So I subsequently rolled back using time machine.) I did a firm-ware update, but no change.
Has anyone else had this occur? Does anyone have a solution? It's embarrassing to have to boot into XP to work. (and even then I can't access my OSX apps that I need).

    Ellis Z,
You are not alone. I assume that you have a MacBook Pro and running Leopard 10.5.2 because, for all reports, this is the only Apple product combination experiencing this issue. If you look on the MBP discussion, you will see dozens of threads, hundreds of posts and thousands of views related to the Wi-Fi connectivity problem. I first discovered that when I ran my MBP under Windows Vista using VMWare, there was no connectivity problem (amazing, same hardware connecting to the same Wi-Fi only with the dreaded MS OS - and it works). I also have an iMac and no problems. My wife has a PowerBook G4 and no connectivity problems. It's only the MBP with Leopard 10.5.2. And, Apple remains totally silent on the issue. You can read posts of brand new MBP's coming right out of the box and not being able to connect via Wi-Fi. While Apple will tell us (the individual user) nothing about the problem or the pending fix, they have been forced by a BIG user (the NYC school system) to admit that there is a problem and that 10.5.3 will fix it. Unfortunately, we have been living with this problem since the release of 10.5.2 (several months)...and still, no release of 10.5.3.
Here are a couple of URL's posted on another thread that discuss the issue and how the NYC school system put a hold on all Apple orders until the fix is released.
