Keychain prompts?

Hi
I've started getting keychain prompts when opening mail app, AirPort net search/connect or safari sites where I have a login.May be a dumb question but is this the expected behaviour?
It's only started sine I changed my keychain pw to be different from my machine login following some advice I saw posted in a recent thread about malware... prior to that the only time I got a keychain pw request was when viewing the detail in a keychain item.
I'm not aware that I changed any other settings when changing the key password. I guess it's not a problem but if this isn't normal behaviour and anyone has any ideas ... ?
Thanks!

Better to have your keychain and admin password the same or you will continue to be prompted for the keychain password.
If you do not click on unsolicited offers from the net such as the malware (MacDefender) that's making the rounds, you'll be fine. They are scamming for credit card information which has nothing to do with your keychain passwords.

  • Constant Keychain prompts

I work in IT in an enterprise environment at a local university. We have several Apple computer labs on campus, running 20" iMacs with OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 on them.
I have setup Magic Triangle with Open directory and Active directory services for login. I use the Workgroup Manager to mange Group Policies for our Apple Labs.
One thing that is annoying our users out of their minds is the CONSTANT Keychain prompts that keep appearing when a user logs in. Is there a way to permanently disable these through Group Policy or some sort of script? Keychain pops up and prompts for passwords to "Local Items" and "Login" keychains constantly, to the point users are almost discouraged to use the labs.
    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thank you,
    A Proud IT Lion!

  • I keep getting Keychain prompt when running an app, how to I get rid of it?

I keep getting this prompt running Steam Game PinballArcade with Mac OSX Maverick and I click Always Allow, I navigate in the games menu and keeps prompting for this, driving me nuts!
PinballArcadeSteam wants to use your confidential information stored in "com.farsightstudios.osx.pinballarcadesteam" in your keychain. Do you want to allow access to this item?  "Always Allow" "Deny" "Allow"
Clicking Always Allow it still brings up this prompt... please help me provide a workaround as I'm not getting anywhere with the steam/pinballarcade community support.

I finally resolved on my own... this is what I had to do.
    1. Keychain Access (use spotlight on right to search for it)
    2. Under "Category" select "Passwords"
    3. You will notice about 6 entries "com.farsight...pinballarcadesteam", doublce click each one and change the following: "Allow all applications to access this item" and save changes for all of them.
    4. Launch game and no more annoying prompts!

  • No Airport Access and No Keychain Prompt After Upgrades

I have recently experienced instances where I updated software, e.g., the recent Security Update and a recent Quicktime update. Upon rebooting, the Airport "fan" in the menu bar shows no signal, and I cannot access my Airport network. I have rescanned using the Airport Admin Utility, but it does not recognize the base station.
In the past, after about three hours, I finally get the prompt advising me that Airport needs to access my keychain, and when I authorize it to do so, all is fine. (I am hoping that happens again in a few hours.)
This has happened on both my iMac and my iBook (both running OS 10.3.9). Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any insights about this problem?

I am having a related problem; I intend to post here and in Panther Networking under the "Security Update" problem thread.
I have Panther 10.3.9 on a iMac G5. It is connected to the network via Airport through a Belkin router (connected to a cable modem) using 128-bit WEP. I have 5 users on the computer (one for each family member.) On Friday I Software Updated Security Update 2005-008. Since then, everytime anyone switches to a different user, Airport drops the connection to the router and takes the computer off the network.
I have now logged into each account, connected to the router each time and typed in the 128bit hex password saving to each person's keychain. Now, when people switch to a new user, it still drops the connection but they can point-click re-connect without having to enter the password.
Resetting the Keychain using Keychain First Aid didn't do anything for me but lose the password. I don't see why I should even consider flashing the pram. I am hoping Apple fixes their bug.

  • Keychain prompt only when needed?

Sometime ago (might have started with Mavericks, but I'm on Yosemite now) the keychain got a lot more annoying. I get prompted to unlock it every time I log in, or even just after the display turns off (not even going fully asleep). And if I set it to lock itself after 5 minutes of inactivity, which seems reasonable, then it just prompts me to unlock it again every 5 minutes, which is not reasonable at all.
I do want it to lock itself when I log out or sleep the computer, but I don't want to have to unlock it until I actually need it. Generally, since I don't want to keep typing passwords, I just Esc out of the prompts and carry on with my business, so the keychain stays locked. But then later when I do want to use the keychain, say because I've visited a login page for a website, it won't prompt me to unlock. I have to manually open and unlock the keychain, and then reload the webpage as well.
    Here's what I want:
Keychain locks automatically on logout, sleep, after inactivity. (This part works already.)
Keychain does NOT prompt me to unlock it just because I logged in, woke the display up, etc. (Much of the time I don't need it, so why bother?)
Keychain DOES prompt me to unlock it when there's something for it to do, e.g. when I visit a login page for a website whose password I've stored. (Now I need it, so it should spring into action like... a springy, active thing.)
Any way to make that happen? It seems like there simply has to be a way to make it less annoying, without just having it unlocked all the time.
    Thanks,
    Tandava

Call ds1.loadData(); when you click the button.

  • Turn off Keychain prompts in Safari in Mavericks

My wife uses Safari on an iMac, an iPad, (and rarely on an iPhone), to log in to her company's secure website and submit secure orders. Each order involves entering a different and unqiue credit card number, new names, new addresses, etc. Now that I just upgraded to Mavericks, now each and every time she completes a new order on the iMac, an iCloud Keychain(?) window within Safari always asks if she wants to save this info. Of course, she NEVER wants to save this - in fact, it's illegal to.
She selects the "Never" option every time, yet (I assume) since each and every order uses a new credit card, name, etc, she's asked endlessly, and continues to select never. So, I guess "never" in this case, actually means "always ask with each new card number? (or name or zip or something unknown and unrevealed)."
These 3 devices are all logged in to the same (her) iCloud account.
How can I stop this prompt, forever, and yet, not turn off auto password logins to websites, etc?
    iMac is mid 2010 with OS 10.9 (13A603) with Safari 7.0 (9537.71).
iPad is model MC979LL/A with iOS 7.0.4 (11B554a)

  • Annoying Safari keychain prompt

Recently, I re-installed OS X on my eMac. Ever since, whenever I use the Safari web browser on certain pages, it pops up a window called Unlock Keychain, which shows: "Please enter your keychain password. Safari wants to use keychain 'unlock'."
How do I eliminate this annoying problem?

Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Delete your AppleID keychain. Relaunch Safari. Try logging in. If you still can't login to AD, delete the "Safari Forms Autofill" keychain. Relaunch Safari and try logging in again.

  • Disabling Keychain Prompt? Please help

    I keep getting this message:
    "Unlock Keychain
    Please enter your keychain password."
I tried to type in a password, using the login ID, but it didn't work.
This happens often when I'm browsing the web with Safari, for instance. And when it's loading to a new page, this passage pops up. If I press "cancel" though, the message goes away. But it comes up again now and then and can get quite annoying.
I didn't have this problem before, may someone please tell me which password do I use instead then?
And better yet, how do I disable the pop-up message?
    Thanks.

The message means you'll have to contact support for assistance: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.  You'll need your serial number, which you can find in Settings>General>About.
However, if your issue is that the verification code is sending to an incorrect number, you can change it from a device or Mac that already has iCloud keychain set up on it by doing the following:
Devices using iOS 7.0.3 or later: Tap Settings > iCloud > Account, then tap Keychain. Check that the phone number listed under Verification Number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.
Macs using OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later: Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences. Click iCloud, then click Account Details. Check that the phone number listed under Verification number is correct. If not, enter another phone number.

  • Hello there! am new to mac and had been using my mcbook pro for like a year now with no problem but last Monday, I started having concerns about my keychain access.. every time i open the mac it asks for my keychain password.. what can i do?

I am a new Mc Bok Pro user and had been using my mac since Sept, 2012 with no problem. Just recently however, I have been experiencing a Keychain access problem. Specifically, whenever I open the mac, it asks for my keychain password... Can I restore my mac to its condition before Jan. 18, 2014? What should I do?

  • Active Directory & Keychain Password Sync

We've been introducing some Macs into our Active Directory environment and I'm a little confused about how best to handle the local Keychain password.  We're joining systems to the domain so that users can use their network password to login to their Macs (accounts are setup as Admin, Managed, Mobile) and so far that is working great.
It's my understanding that the password on the default login keychain is set automatically when the user account is created, so it would match the password the user first used to login to the Mac.  However, we have a password expiration policy here, so users are changing their passwords at least every 3 months. As I understand it, by default the login keychain password is static, so I'm concerned that users are going to either forget the keychain password, or assume it is the same as their network password, and be unable to unlock the keychain should they even be prompted.
I've tried enabling the "synchronize login keychain password with account" setting in Keychain Access, but this causes another issue.  When the user changes their network password, the next time they login to the Mac they receive a Keychain prompt asking them to enter their old keychain password in order to keep the keychain pass in sync.
Is there any way to keep the keychain password synchronized to a user's AD account password without prompting them at all?  Or is their an accepted "best practice" regarding the keychain in active directory?
    Thanks

I've also written a blog post about this Topic:

  • Why is Safari (or Keychain) no longer asking to update passwords?

I was signing on to Angie's List (angieslist.com) the other day, but the site wasn't accepting the auto-filled ID and password.  I manually typed the correct password and sign-on was successful.  What *didn't* happen was Safari/Keychain prompting me to update the password it uses.  I closed everything, restarted the Mac and tried again with the same result.
I went into Safari->Preferences->Passwords.  "AutoFill user names and passwords" is checked, as it always has been.  I could see the incorrect password listed for the site, and since there is no way to edit it, I deleted the site entry thinking it may save it again the next time I logged on to the site.  That does not happen.
I am *not* using Private Browsing.

You can manually create Keychain item if you wish.
    1) Open Keychain access and unlock "login"
    2) Click "+" on the bottom of the window
    3) enter a name for the website like this http://www.angieslist.com
    4) enter account name
    5) enter password
This will keep your login info and you don't have to retype it again and again.
P.S. Kind of brutal way but this is best solution I can see now...

my used macbook is asking for password to unlock different keychains, how do i reset the password?

    Hi nylife02,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
Without knowing the exact keychain alert your are receiving, I will leave articles for the ones that are most likely the culprit. The one it sounds most like to me is “login” keychain. Please review the article below if indeed you are receiving the “login” keychain prompt.
OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1631
Another keychain prompt that this may be is the “Local Items” keychain. Please follow the attached article if the prompt is for “Local Items” keychain.
