Keychain 'show password'

hi,
i clicked on 'show password' for an item in my keychain and after entering my keychain access password, i accidentally clicked 'always allow' instead of 'allow once'.
now, when i click 'show password' for that item no dialog box appears, so i can't figure out how to switch it back so it will always ask for my password before showing the item's password.
hope that makes sense.
any suggestions?
thanks!

double-click on this keychain item and click on "Access Control" tab. remove Keychain access from the list of apps on the "always allow" list.

  • Keychain "show password" issue with Airport

I have 3 Keychain items for Airport Express. Two are in Login & if I select "show password" it asks for my Keychain password (which is also my login password), which I give & it shows me my password. No problem.
The third Airport Keychain item is in System. Following the same procedure, I put in the same password & it rejects it.
For both the Login & System Keychain items I get the same window asking me for my Keychain password, so I can't figure out why my password won't work for the Airport item in System. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I don't know why the airport passwords end up in the System Keychain, or what's the password for the System Keychain, but probably you have the same problem I had: every time I wanted to connect to my Airport network I had to input the password again.
In one ocassion, before entering the password, I clicked the "information" arrow and saw that indeed access to the system.keychain was being requested by some application called system.iUtilserver. I deleted the preference file "user">Library>Preferences>system.iUtils.prefs and now I do not have to input the password every time I connect to the airport. The password still reappears in the System Keychain, however. I also noticed that other accounts in my laptop didn't have this problem. One downside of this situation is that any user of your machine can access the airports covered by the password in the System Keychain, since it's a keychain available to all users.

  • "Show password" in Keychain Access not working

When I launch Keychain Access and tick the "Show password:" checkbox for a given Keychain item I get prompted to enter my password. After doing so the password field remains blank.
Anyone else run into this problem? Know a workaround?

I'm getting something like this but when I click  "Show Password" I get a mumbojumbo of letters and symbols at least 120 characters and clearly not my passworld. Is this something with Maverick, because I've been having a lot of problems.

  • Show password in keychain.system

I would like to know the password that I set ages ago for my wireless DSL router. It is the only thing in my system keychain. I am able to unlock the system keychain using the password for my admin user, but when I check "Show Password" the new dialog box which appears and requests a password will not accept any password for any user. I have even tried enabling and logging in under root, but it still doesn't work.
I have been able to use the "show password" function with my login keychain without any problem - it's just this one.
I went ahead and deleted the password, which since I didn't know it, meant I had to set the wireless network up again. I was hoping that when the new password was saved the "show password" block would work in case I needed it again in the future. Of course, it didn't work, and I still can not show the password.
Anyone else having these problems? Anyone able to offer advice?
    Thanks for the help!

Your admin password doesn't match the Keychain Access password. As for part 2, your login.keychain should reside in ~/Library/Keychains/ and the machine's System.keychain should reside in /Library/Keychains/. I have no idea why your using more than one and why they're not in the proper places. You might want to delete the small one, rename the large one, and delete whatever is currently in ~/Library/Keychains/.

  • "show password" doesnt' work in Keychain :-(

I'm syncing several computers' keychains using .mac
Previoulsy one of those was running 10.3.9 while the others were running 10.4.6.
After updtaing the 10.3 mac to 10.4.6 I'm not able to "show password" from the keychain access. However, I changed two things at once. (1) I began syncing the keychains, and (2) upgraded my last 10.3 box to 10.4.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    TIA

    Reading this link below
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh462.html
Indicates that keychain access works differently for 10.4 than for prior versions of OSX. In the past, I was able to "show password" by only entering the keychain password. There was no need to know the "item's password".
Can someone verify that 10.3 and 10.4 work differently in accessing keychain passwords.
    TIA

  • Keychain showing different character for the password

Hi just wanted to ask why my keychain is showing different character for my password in my AIM and Yahoo account? When i mark the show password its show plenty of letters but not the one i am really using. How can i show the right one?

    Hi Irvin,
If you see a crazy corrupt password, I'd delete that item, ythen login yo AIM or Yahoo again to create a new one, unless you don't remember your PW, then try Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Keychain no longer shows passwords

Since the change to Mavericks my keychain no longer shows passwords, my iPhone no longer logs onto Skype and I can't look up the password any more in my keychain.
    What has gone wrong?

What happens if you double click on a password in Keychain Access? I get a show password option.
You also might try running Keychain First aid and as a last resort, try resetting the original keychain.

  • Annoying Safari behavior when I click show password in preferences and no favicon support

An hour ago I decided to switch to Safari 6.0.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 from Google Chrome and here I am with two issues.
    Issue 1:
Visiting preferences I eventually went to Password Tab as shown in screenshot below. As I checked show password option all of a sudden this pop up asking for permission :"safari wants to use your confidential information stored in your keychain."
As I have about 100 websites passwords stored in my keychain, this pop up keeps coming one by one asking for permission for each and every site. And until I select any of 3 options I can not do any activity. I do not want to click around 100 times on Always Allow or any of other 2 options. This behavior is completely nuisance to me. Any suggestion on how to get rid of this? Is this a bug in Safari? Should I report it to Apple?
    Issue 2:
I figured out that Safari does not support favicons too, which is, in my opinion very efficient way to manage bookmark on Bookmark bar as bookmarks are easily searchable. I visited few questions regarding Favicons and all says NO support for Safari but since they are quite a few months older now I am including it here, with hope, if any solution is known to anyone.
Any suggestion or assistance will be helpful for any of the issue.
Due to these two issues I am forced to switch back to chrome within an hour. :-(
I have also posted my question on StackOveflow website superuser.
One small suggestion: UI and formatting on this discussion.apple.com seems very old and painful now. Stackoverflow offers excellent in this area. Kindly try to renovate this site with rich and easy features.

If you saved the passwords in another browser, then Safari is not automatically authorized to access them, nor is any other application. That's the whole point of the keychain. You should only get the prompt once for each password.

  • Show Passwords in Safari 5?

I used to be able to click "show passwords" in the last safari under the security tab in preferences. Now I don't see it anymore. How can I see passwords under the autofill tab?

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions...
You need to open the Keychain Access application for that located in: Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Double click a keychain then select the Attributes tab.
    Select: Show Password

  • Safari will not show passwords

I cannot get Safari to show passwords (in Preferences). The dialog box has a check box to allow passwords to be shown. I checked the box, gave permission by using my login to the MacAir, but nothing changes. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • System.keychain rejects password

    Status:
    ....system.keychain (in Library/keychains).
    ....user.keychain (in user/Library/keychains).
    ....a previous.keychain (my default, in user/Library/keychains).
....login.keychain (in user/Library/keychains, but not in Keychain Access list).
    Problem:
Recently, the system.keychain stopped recognizing my password. I can unlock it from within Keychain Access, delete a network password item, but can't show password. Keychain first aid doesn't see or repair the problem. Neither does repair permissions in Disk Utility. The system.keychain contains almost nothing, so I don't need to retrieve passwords, etc. User keychains work fine and have all my valued content.
How can I reset, replace, repair the system.keychain while leaving user keychains intact? Could this be done by logging in as root user? What is the relationship between system and root with respect to keychain? Netinfo Manager? Thanks, -Henrik

    Okay baltwo:
I had an empty 5GB partition set aside. I installed Tiger 10.4 , setting up the same user and password as that which was problematic, updated to OS 10.4.10, replaced the system.keychain with the new one....the problem persists. (I'm leaving out the re-boots, Keychain First Aid, permissions repair...) Then, I even tried other suggestions that I found on the net, like deleting the system keychain folder. No go.
So, I did a clean erase and install again on this 5GB partition and skipped the network setup (joining my network using my WEP key was about the only thing I did with this new, clean system). This is crazy, but this virgin OS 10.4, out of the box DVD, no updates, on its own partition has the same problem! When system.keychain requires my password, it is rejected. When authentication is requested by other processes user.keychain, login.keychain, system.keychain.access, system.keychain.modify, system.preferences, etc. there is no problem: the password is accepted. How can this be??

FYI: In May when my 20GB factory HD died (also an Hitachi TravelStar), I installed a new 60GB Hitachi TravelStar 5K120, 5400 rpm HD. I didn't think it was relevant to mention. I have had no hardware or software problems, other than this thread, and I've done regular maintenance and optimization with TechTool Pro 4.5.

  • ICloud keychain access password

    Hi guys,
Safari is saving passwords both on my iphone and my mac – this iCloud Keychain does work. Cool.
Then design of the website is changing and whatnot and Safari stops entering password for me.
I go to the Keychain Access and trying to see the password.
Keychain Access is asking me for the password for "Local Items" ... hm... ok.
Local admin password does not work, my iCloud password does not work.. what password shall I use to see items stored in my iCloud keychain?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hey there keloin,
It sounds like you are wanting to see what Safari passwords your iCloud Keychain. You should be able to do this in the Safari preferences:
How do I view the passwords stored in my iCloud keychain?
Macs using OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later:
Choose Safari > Preferences, then click Passwords.
Select the website whose password you want to view.
Select the “Show passwords for selected websites” checkbox.
    Enter your system password.

  • How can I get Lion to show password text in plain characters?

In all earlier versions of the Mac OSX, I had the option of showing at least new passwords in plain text instead of dots. Was an advantage over Windoze.
I also had the option NOT to show password text.
Since I moved up to Lion, all passwords show as dots. I find no option to do otherwise. Can this be changed?

I have the same problem.  Does anyone have an answer?
