Keychain sync issues between new iMac and older 10.4.11 machine

I am having a tough time since purchasing a new imac - I can get mobileme working reasonably well with few issues if I have keychain syncing disabled on both machines but I would like to get to the bottom of this and be able to sync it automatically.
Here is a description of the issues I am getting in spite of performing the regular advice to set up a new account once the issue starts and move all my stuff into that new account.
After a few syncs I get the advice "please enter the password for "(myname), Aos Powerbook G4 17""
Now the A has a double dot (umlaut ?) above it and the o has a ^ above it - not sure how to get that with this keyboard or I would have done it ...
This box is empty below this dialogue (expecting a passcode) and whatever password you enter (I have tried all of mine repeatedly over several weeks now !) it just doesn't accept it. It is as if someone else in a parallel universe has your mac and has entered a new passcode !
Occasionally I will get 'the keychain on '^&G*)(" has been altered do you wish to merge' (not exact text but something like) and I am no longer able to send emails without entering my email account password first and every so often.
There are other weird symptoms too - but does this trigger anyones grey matter ?
IS there an issue between 105 and 104 syncing ?
Thanks
Andy

I should also point out that I have an iphone and this poor puppy has tons of apps and data associated with the apps on it......
Anyone have a clue as to how I back this up with the new pbook user account I have created to sidestep the keychain issue ?
The only option it shows erases the iphone's applications and their assoc data from what I can see ....
Thanks
Andy

  • HT2729 Video syncing issues between new IPad and Macbook

I used my new IPad to film some videos for about three months. Today, I connected my IPad to my Macbook in an attempt to upload the IPad videos to my Macbook ITunes. Unfortunately, the IPad synced with my computer files, and all of my videos were erased off of my IPad. I cannot locate them anywhere on my computer. How can I recover these lost videos? Please help! Thanks!

Try this first.... Quit iTunes, restart the Mac, restart the iPad and then try again.
If that does not work, look here for more help.

  • Syncing Mail Between My iMac and Macbook

I am new to the Mac world (I am a PC convert) and I now have an iMac and a Macbook for work.
I have a couple of questions (some of which belong in this group and some elsewhere but I figured someone here could point me in the right direction):
    1. My company's email does not support IMAP, only POP. What is the best way to keep my email clients sync'ed? Ideally I would like my Inbox and all of my folders to be the same on my desktop and laptop and it would be great if it was automated somehow.
    2. What is the best way to handle my iPhone? Should I make my Macbook the "Sync Master" and only sync it to that?
    3. What is the best way to keep my folders and iTunes sync'ed between my iMac and Macbook? Someone suggested Martian Slingshot as the best way to keep them together. Do other people concur?
Any other advice/experience that people may have on the easiest way to use a Desktop in the office and travel with a sync'ed laptop is appreciated.
As I mentioned, I am very new to the Mac world. I can't really think of any great way to sync them in the PC World either but I am grateful for your help. I know I should have gotten a Macbook Pro but my boss didn't want to get me one so I am stuck with the hardware I have.
    Thanks.
    Jeremy

What I've done with email in the past is set only one of the machines to delete email from the server (if your company allows you that option). But you need to make sure you check with the one that doesn't delete before the other. You may be able to delete manually as well, so don't delete anything from the server until mail has been downloaded to both (I think this can be done in Apple Mail under advanced prefs). But that won't help with tracking replies, etc. And you'll have to manage mailboxes seperately.
.Mac has a bunch of syncing options, but you may not want to go to that expense.
Sorry I don't have any advice on the other stuff, only running 1 Mac.

    What instructions?
In the source list click devices (so far so good) then click the entry for your iphone or ipod.  that doesn't exist. HELP asap
You don't import photos from the iPhone to your computer using iTunes.
See this -> iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Note this only applies to photos taken with the iPhone. Any photos you previously added to your iPhone using iTunes should be copied from old computer to new computer.

  • New iMac and Older PowerBook sync

I have powerbook with 10.6.8 sync'd with iPhone (using MobileMe, I think). Works great.  Got a new iMac with 10.8.2. How do I make all have same contacts, calenders, etc.?  I also want to put all music files on new iMac to free up disk space on PowerBook.

I would run Migration Assistant to transfer everything over to the new iMac. (Assuming you've already powered it up and skipped the opportunity to do this with Setup Assistant?).
How old is your MacBook Pro? If it's capable of running Mountain Lion, you'd have both computers supporting iCloud, which would keep your contacts, calendars, email, etc. always synced between the two.

  • Problems with wireless connection between new macbook and older imac

I have just bought a 2.0 ghz macbook core2duo and am unable to connect to my wireless internet network at home. My wireless connection is set up through the airport card in my 17" flat panel imac (i.e. I am using the imac as the internet base station). I had an old clam shell macbook (which just died hence the new macbook) and still have a 400 mhz graphite SE iMac which both connec(ed) to the network perfectly for years. But the new macbook will not connect. It will connect when connected via ethernet. The imac uses Tiger.
I have tried resetting the name of the network, using encryption and not using encryption, but nothing helps. The macbook appears to see the network (although no bars register in the airport connection icon) but I always get an error message when trying to connect.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I am not actually using a router as I am using the airport card (non express i believe) in my iMac to send the wireless signal. My modem is Motorola but not sure which model. I have Comcast cable internet service

  • Best connection between new iMac and firewire MacBook Pro

Hi I'm running a MBP with Firewire, USB (2?) and Ethernet ports. I am soon to take delivery of my shiny new iMac with Thunderbolt, USB 3 and Ethernet ports. What please would be the fastest connection I can establish between the two machines? Thanks, M

Ethernet is your fastest choice - FW800, to be precise.
To transfer from the MBP to the iMac use Target Disk Mode. Boot the MBP into TDM, boot the iMac normally and preferably for the first time. This will put you into the Setup Assistant and let you migrate data from the MBP - Home folder, third-party applications with support files, and system preferences.
If you prefer not to do a migration then you can also simply transfer selected items using drag and drop.
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
      1. Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
      2. Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
      3. All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
      4. Contextual Menu Items
      5. Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
      6. Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius  work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

      7. OS X Lion: How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.  The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
      1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
      2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake
          or there's some other problem.
      3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
      4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
      5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and
registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your
desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

      c. MacBook Air - Remote Disc, Migration, or Remote Install Mac OS X and
          wireless 802.11n networks.
Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft.
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

  • Sync issues with LR5/iMac and iPad (IOS 8.1)

I have been using published folder to sync my photos with my iPad and iPhone, and for the past two years, it's been working fine but lately, something has gone awry. For some reason, now when I edit a photo in LR and it republishes the photo (as a jpeg), itunes simply doesnt see the phtot and it disappears from the folder on the ipad. Yes, the new publised photo is in the iMac and it appears just like the photos before and after it, but iTunes doesn't send it over. I have tried manually exporting these photos to a different folder to see if it will bring them over, but they still wont come. I've tried renaming as well, but still no luck; it's almost as if LR is creating some strange jpeg that iTunes cannot see.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

  • Migration Assistant using firewire not working between new iMac and G5. Ah!

I unpacked my new iMac 21.5' last nite and spent three painful hours trying to use Migration Assistant to tranfer files from my old iMac G5, which is using OS X 10.4.11.
I follow all of the instructions ver batim: connect the 400/800 firewire between the old and the new iMacs, start migration assistant on the new iMac, reboot the old iMac holding down the 'T' key until the firewire symbol pops up on the screen. At that point, the new iMac sits there with the message 'waiting for the other iMac to restart.' It never seems to recognize the old iMac. I tried rebooting, reconnecting the cable, etc. No luck.
I also tried using the ethernet option with no luck. The computers find each other but after entering the 'code' twice, the old mac gets stuck 'searching for other computers on the network.'
Any advice? I'd really like to use my new iMac!!!!

May not help but give this a try on the G5:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
I would also first turn off both computers then connect the FW cable. If both computers have a FW800 port then you can use a standard FW800 cable. Boot the G5 into TDM. After the TDM screen appears boot the new computer normally.

  • HT4528 Is there a fix for calendar sync issues between iPhone 4S and Outlook?

My boss has an iPhone 4S running iOS 6.0.1 and a Microsoft Exchange 2003 email account and has consisent sync issues with her calendar. The problem only seems to come up with calendar invitations. Usually, when people send her calendar invitations the events get added to her Outlook calendar on her PC but not on her iPhone. More recently she also sent out invitations through Outlook that also didn't appear on her phone. She has also accepted invitations on her phone that did not appear on her PC. The problem seems to have gotten worse more recently.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? I tried deleting the calendar through the phone's settings and re-installed it but it didn't solve the issue.

There was a reported issue with Exchange and iOS with re-occuring meeting invites.  Not only did it cause issues on the device, but on the Exchange server side it created huge logs and high utilization on the CAS.  This was an issue on iOS 6.0.x - 6.1.3 (at which time it has been fixed from 6.1.3 on).  This was attributed to the iOS version and happened on all devices (not just the 4s).
I am not sure if this is what your employee is experiencing or not - but this is one that we had, and we asked all running iOS 6 to upgrade to the most current release (oddly enough, we did not see this in iOS 5.x devices).

  • Sync issues between Outlook 2003 and Centro

I purchased a new Centro about a week ago, and I have been syncing it with Outlook - I thought it was working fine, until I realized that calendar items that were added to my Centro were not showing up in Outlook.  I reinstalled the Hotsync Manager, and was able to get it to sync both ways again, but after shutting down my computer, I am back to the same issue where it will not sync with Outlook.  Today, I installed the Palm Desktop, but I do not want to use it if I don't have to, since I would rather have to only have one program open for e-mail, calendar, etc., in addition to Outlook giving me more options with my calendar organization.  Any ideas on why I keep losing the ability to sync with Outlook?
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

This may be caused by an outdated version of Chapura PocketMirror, the software that lets you synchronize your device with Outlook.
    To help prevent data loss
Chapura recommends that you download and install the latest updater of the PocketMirror Standard software. We recommend you update to the latest version from Chapura's downloads site, www.chapura.com/palmsupport. PocketMirror Standard v.3.1.2 (and later) resolves this issue.

  • Syncing Issues between Ipad 2 and MacBook Pro

When we sync our ipad with our macbook pro we get over 100 errors for songs that won't sync to the ipad.  These are all songs we have purchased on itunes or downloaded from cd's.  Anyone encounter this before and have a suggestion on how to fix this?
    Thanks

The underlying issue here is that you have chosen to use POP3 rather than IMAP mail accounts. Only IMAP mailboxes are 'synchronized' by default: it is virtually impossible to synchronize POP3 mailbox content.
For a discussion of POP3, IMAP and mail synchronization options, take a look at the Mail & Address Book - Tiger forum located here.

  • Sync issues between iPhone 5 and Outlook 2013 through iTunes

For at least 6 months I have been using a W8 laptop with Outlook 2013, and I've flawlessly been able to sync my iPhone 5 through a tethered connection to iTunes.  Two weeks ago, I lost the ability to update my Outlook calendar to the iPhone as new
calendar entries were not making it through the iTunes sync process for some reason.  Contacts, notes, and bookmarks still sync perfectly, but calendar entries have stopped updating.  I've recently installed regular updates to the iPhone IOS, iTunes,
Windows, and Office so something in the mix has caused my calendar sync to cease.  I have reverted my iPhone back to default settings and re-installed my user information, I've run scanpst on my Outlook file, and nothing has worked so I am searching
    for answers.

Does the calendar entries show correct through Web-based Access?
Which type of email account you are using?
Per your post, you are using iTunes to sync your message/Calendar/Contact betweem Windows and iPhone 5.
Is there a way to access your mailbox directly rather than connect Outlook to sync via iPhone?
