Keychain wont save passwords

keychain repeatedly makes me enter a password when i open Mail, even after i repeteadly check to "Remember this password in my Keychain" it has happpened in other apps too, such as Adium

I solved this problem by creating a new keychain in Keychain Access and making it the default keychain.

  • How can I allow the Keychain to save passwords automatically?

I used to just enter usernames+passwords for the first time and they would automatically be saved in the keychain without a prompt. But now, it will ask "Would you like to save this password?" How can I get it so that it saves the password, the first time it is entered, without prompting me? Thanks for any help.
(I use Safari by the way, version 5.0.6. and Keychain access is version 4.0.2)

You can control which fields are locked down after signing by setting up a collection. Then those that are not locked can be changed after signing. If this is not possible, then the line outs must occur prior to signing.

  • Keychain doesnt save password - airport disk

Hi, I have a 4th gen. Airport Extreme with a connected USB HDD .
Ever since i switched to account based access to the airport disk , It have refused to stay
    logged on after restarts.
This is okay, but it is super annoying that it refuses to remember my user and pass when i press "remeber this pass in my keychain" such that i can acess the disk
    with 2 clicks.
My windows computer and raspberry Pi stays logged on, with the same username and password (after reboots) untill i manually log out and log in with
a different account - I really want this on my MacBook as well!.
Hope someone can help! It would be nice if it just would remember name and password at log on.
    Simon

I believe the Airport Utilities themselves have their own keychain of passwords, so you may need to remove the passwords from those also.

  • With iCloud Keychain, no automatic password suggestion

Today I activated iCloud Keychain on my Mac and my iPhone. The system is generally working as it is supposed to, with one exception. On many sites (for example: outlook.com and yahoo.com), Keychain will not suggest a password. Is it because these sites are of the kind “that request passwords not to be saved”?
But an option is supposed to be present in Maverick as well as in iOS 7 to force Keychain to save passwords for these sites nevertheless. On Mac OS, this is: Safari >Preferences > Passwords > Allow AutoFill even for websites that request passwords not to be saved.
But on my Mac, as well as on my iPhone, these options have disappeared.
So, on some sites like the ones cited before, I cannot obtain a suggestion of password from Keychain (and have it saved at the same time), but if I type a password of myself, when I will log in to that site the next time, Keychain will offer to save the password.
Is this normal behavior? Where are gone the options to allow saving even when sites request not to?

Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the website top right corner of that window in the search field then delete that keychain.
Back to Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Autofill Tab.
Make sure:  User names and passwords is selected.
Now select the Password tab then remove the library website name.
Now login to the library website. Click Yes to save that data to a new keychain.

  • Save to Keychain wont work.

Hi whever I click the save to Keychain option, in iChat or whatever, it wont save and I still have to enter my password.
    Any ideas what is wrong?

Have you tried running keychain first aid? First make a backup of your Keychain file in ~(YourHome)/Library/Keychains/ (Your keychain).
If that doesn't help try navigating to /Users/~YourHome/Library/Preferences/com.apple.keychainaccess.plist and move that file to your desktop and log out and back in or restart.
    Let us know.

  • How is Keychain invoked to save password?

I have noticed that many sites do not invoke the Keychain to remember passwords, for example, forums which use the popular vBulletin software.
    - e.g. http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/search.php?
This site allows a cookie to be set with the ID & Password, but these are lost whenever cookies are cleared.
How can I get the ID & Password onto the Keychain for this site (and others like it) ?
Does anyone know why some sites invoke the Keychain and others do not?
    Thanks

finally i asked in #webKit and apparently that portion of the code is not open-source, and i couldn't find any more information anywhere else.
anyway, i doubt the 'login' 'log in' difference matters, really. so far, i've run into three sites (i can remember) that safari wouldn't keychain:
    - the one you referenced, which uses php. firefox recognized it, however.
    - another php site "https://bishop.34sp.com:8443/login.php3", that used two separate forms. again, firefox recognized it, but safari recognized it too when i rewrote the code to use only one form.
    - this site "http://webcat.warwick.ac.uk/patroninfo" (not php), not recognized by either safari or firefox because of the double password fields.
note that the last two sites come from "http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041012233334948" (bottom comment).

  • How can I save passwords for URL's

How can I save passwords for URL's? I just installed 10.6.7 Snow Leopard. I also had to format my HD drive and reinstall my software.

    Hi,
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Select the box next to:
    User names and passwords.
Navigate to a site you normally log into with the user name and password. Click Yes when prompted. That will save that information to a new keychain for you.
Passwords are actually stored in your Keychain Access application. (Applications/Utilities)

  • FF no longer updates passwords, save passwords is selected.

Firefox 26.0 suddenly stopped updating my passwords. It asks if I want it to remember new passwords, but I changed my yahoo email password and it does not ask if I want it to update the password. When I come back it still has the old password.

I used the bookmarklet at the site you show. It didn't work. I searched this help forum for autocomplete, I found one answer said to got to "Firefox, Options, Privacy tab, the History make it custom." Under the "custom" setting there is a remember search and form history, make sure it is deselected, I did that also!
Still will not update password or ask to update. I even went to my password list and deleted the username and password that I changed, it still wont ask if I want to save password.
Is there another place that I should go to disable autocomplete?

  • Mail doesn't save passwords after 10.5.7 update

Did clean install and updated to 10.5.7 but now 2 of my IMAP accounts don't save passwords and keep getting asked for it everytime I launch Mail. Anyone having this issue too?

Launch Keychain Access (in the Utilities folder), go to the First Aid tab in its Prefs, and see whether the choices are set to your liking. Then run First Aid from the main menu. If that doesn't help, try Reset in the Prefs/General tab. While you're at it, you might see whether the choices there look right, too.

  • Settings changed wont save after reboot

Any changes that i do in my Mac, wont save after reboot.
If i change the settings on my mouse (unchecking Scroll direction) next time i reboot, it will be checked again.
Any changes that i do to my Finder sidebar (like adding My Main Drive not visible, add downloads and pictures, change the foler view as columns) they are all gone after i reboot. Its getting freakin anoying. I Google for a solution but to find none.
When trying to opening Calender, it says that i dont have permission. I have gone to the application and checked and made sure that all acounts have r/w permissions.
On the Dock, i uninstalled an app and next reboot i will get a question mark, even tho i removed it before it comes back after the reboot.
    Thanks for listening.

May sound silly, but are you sure you're not logging in as the 'Guest' user? What privileges does the user account you're using have? Check in
     > System Preferences... Users & Groups
that the account you're using is Admin. If you're using a Standard account, are parental controls enabled?
If you are admin, try resetting your permissions and removing the sys pref property file. Before you do that, backup your system and user data. Once you're backed up, open Terminal and copy/paste the following into the Terminal window:
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
hit 'return'. If the prompt returns without an error (as it should), paste this
    sudo chown -R `id -un` ~
hit 'return'. Enter your password as requested, but type carefully as it will be invisible while you do.
This will take a while, but after the command finishes (i.e., when the prompt returns), restart the mac.
After the restart, set the mac up the way you want, then test whether the problem is fixed by restarting again to see if your changes were kept.

  • Cannot get mail to save password

Cannot get mail to save password although entered in preferences and account, saved it does not save
Also, notes on iphone and lap top not syncing, tried everything
    OSX version 10.9.1

    Hey there erginc,
It sounds like your computer is not saving your password for your iCloud account in the System Preferences. I found this article and recommend the steps within:
Mail (Mountain Lion): If your password is not saved
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11775
If you click “Save password” in a dialog in Mail but still have to enter your password, there are a couple of things you can try.
Open Keychain Access, and then locate and delete the mail account password item. While in Keychain Access, you can also choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid to verify and repair keychain settings.
Open Disk Utility, and then select the volume (for your hard disk or disks) in the list of disks and volumes. Click First Aid and then click Verify Disk. If necessary, click Repair Disk. Then send yourself a test message.
The title mentions Mountain Lion but the steps are relevant to Mavericks as well.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
