Keynot '08: "Move" Action to scroll text

Sorry for this stupid question, but I'm baffled as to how to use the Action "Move". I have a block of text I want to scroll from the bottom to the top of the page. The little "Option Click the Selected Path" "hint" just isn't very helpful.
Can anyone explain how to do this (or point me to a tutorial or other link to explain these actions? I'm usually pretty good with these things, but must say Apple didn't make them very intuitive.
Thanks!

Page 112-115 Keynote'09 User Guide covers basic object movement using builds. Or would you like me to summarise?!

  • Scrolling text or document display in Keynote '09

    I would like to build an animation that would scroll through a list of about 100 names, one name per line (or two) from top to bottom, at a readable but not slow cadence, somewhat like movie credits. The list could be in a Pages document, a PDF or directly in Keynote. Probably just plain black text on a white background or the slide background. The list would take up about half the screen.
    Any ideas how to do this?
    Thanks

    Another option would be to use iMovie and the Scrolling Credits Title to make a movie of it and then import the movie onto a Keynote slide.

  • Recreate scale and move action seen in Keynote tutorial

    How do I recreate the effect seen in the "Move A to B" Keynote tutorial seen on the Keynote help page? It appears that the photo of the woman's face moves and scales down in size at the same time. I understand how to move the object and then scale it but in the tutorial it appears to happen at the same time. Is there a way to create that effect? All help appreciated. (My first post here, so far nothing but impressed after switching to mac.)

    Welcome to the forum, and to the Mac!
    Combining actions and builds is pretty simple, and is done in the Build Order flyout drawer in the Action Inspector palette. Create your move action, then click the small "Add Action" plus sign at the bottom of the Action palette to add your scale action. When you add this action, the Build Order drawer will appear, listing the actions/builds for the slide. In order to combine actions/builds, you simply need to select an action and in the bottom "Start Build" drop-down menu choose "Automatically with build #" (where "#" is the prior build). After doing this, your object will move and scale simultaneously (and could also rotate and change opacity, if you wanted, as all these actions can be put together in any combination using this technique).
    This procedure is also how you get multiple objects to build in or out together. Playing with the time delay for the build (just below the "Start Build" dropdown) can also produce some very nice effects.

  • "Set the text of member" stutters scroll text...

    Hi!
    I have a presentation with some text members and a scroll
    text.
    The scroll text is scrolled like this:
    if scrollMessageActive = "True" then
    scrollPos = scrollPos + scrollSpeed
    if scrollPos >= member ("TXT_ScrollMessage").height -
    Sprite(52).height then
    scrollpos = 0
    end if
    member ("TXT_ScrollMessage").scrollTop = scrollPos
    end if
    This is scrolling fluently as long as I don't change any of
    the other
    text members. If I do so, the scroll message starts to
    stutter - looks
    line the update of the texts takes too much time.
    Is there a solution for this?
    Thanks!
    Martin

    Changing the text of a member is a reasonable thing to do.
    You could
    also just change members. The problem is most likely in the
    way that you
    are doing the changing.
    If you are running a repeat loop then the that will stop
    everything else
    that is going on in your movie. In Lingo, repeat loops don't
    run
    simultaneously, they take over and stop every other Lingo
    action until
    they have finished.
    If you post your code, it might be possible to suggest an
    alternative
    method.

  • How do I create dynamic scrolling text in Flash CS5?

    Hi everyone,
    I am a complete newbie to Flash. I'm tyring to build a scrolling text box that automatically scrolls. On mouse over, I want the scrolling to stop so users can click on an item in the text box. All of the items will be tied to external hyperlinks. I want to populate the text box with an external file. I've done some searches on Adobe, but haven't found anything that takes me through the whole process.
    I have the complete Adobe Master Collection. So if this is easier in Flash Catalyst, let me know. I know how to buid a manual scroll box in Flash Catalyst. Could I export this to and add the auto-scrolling?
    Remember, I'm a complete newbie.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Thanks again Kglad,
    I really have no preference of Action Script since I don't have any significant experience with either one.
    I'll keep doing searches to see if I can get the information I need.
    Have a great holiday.

  • Help with Scrolling Text

    I am a big iMovie fan, but I have just had a problem while attempting to create a video game trailer. I have never experienced this before, and I do not know how to get by it.
    Ok. So I have 20 seconds of scrolling text, and about 28 lines of text. 247 characters with no spaces if you really want to know. I have 20 seconds of video behind it.
    Here's the problem: The last five lines of text are cut off. They are completely normal: Helvectia, Bold, 16 size, Left sided, white. There is no fancy text or images around it besides for the video behind it. (It played fine before with no video behind it).
    I've tried resizing the video, the text length, everything I can think of, and nothing works. Please help ASAP.
    I am running this on a MacBook, iMovie '08, the total time of video is 41 seconds. The video behind the scrolling text is a .mov file.
    Thanks!

    Note: The problem seems to have fixed itself. I do not know what the problem was, but I was messing around with the text and I noticed the missing lines were back. If anybody knows what the problem was, or wants to contribute to this post, please do so.
    Thanks!

  • Scrolling Text and Images in Flash CS3

    I am pretty new to Flash and I have spent all day trying to
    look up tutorials on making it possible to scroll text and images
    in Flash but none of them are working for me. I know you save the
    content into a movie clip but that's as far as i have gotten. would
    anyone be able to walk me through this PLEASE???

    You could use a Swing HTMLPANE or draw it all onto a
    BufferedImage and display that (code posted under 2D graphics thread).

  • Scrolling text in Dreamweaver CS4

    I need to be able to scroll through text without scrolling down the page. In other words, I have a need for a page to maintain a fixed height, regardless of how much text might be needed. Therefore, I need a scroll bar assigned to text in a table cell.
    Is this a function of Dreamweaver CS4? How is this effect achieved?
    Thanks!

    Try inserting a  div (with id="horiztxt") into your cell. Move the cell's text into the div.  And then style that div with css:
    div#horizhtxt {
         overflow-x:scroll;
    Does that work for you?

  • Flicker on Scrolling Text

    I have a problem with flicker on scrolling text in a movie after the DVD has been burned (on the computer monitor or TV it doesn't matter). Before burning but after encoding, the movie plays the MPEG file fine with no flicker. Even with DVDSP simulation there is no flicker. DVD is doing something to the movie when burning. What could that be?
    The movie was encoded and burned all with up-to-date Apple software. The text is san-serif and plenty large enough.
    Thank you,
    Phil

    Yeah, I know what you mean.
    You using the Scrolling Text from FCP or in Live Type?
    My experiences using Scrolling Text from Video Generators>Text>Scrolling Text from FCP hasn't been too great. To minimize the flicker, I drop a de-interlace filter on the text, and that seems to help a bit.
    Another thing that I do is keyframe individual texts (created in either FCP or Live Type), and fake the scroll that way. FCP or Motion can do this.
    And I've been wanting to try this, but haven't yet. Create a Photoshop document with the dimensions of the width of the video screen (720 Pixels Wide for DV) and make it as long as it needs to be. Be sure to have a transparent background, and begin laying out the text as you want it. then import it into FCP. Keyframe the .psd to make it scroll how you want it.
    Don't know if those will help, but those are things that I do.

  • How to automatically scroll text in JScrollPane

    Hi there
    I have a very simple question...
    How to automatically scroll text in JScrollPane?
    Text in the TextArea is constantly getting updated... but the scroll bars dont' move as the text changes. Instead I ahve to scroll and see the changes everytime. How can I make the viewport or the scrollpane to show the latest content?
    Thanks in advance.

    This question is asked daily (it seems) on the forum. Hopefully the TextAreaScroll class will explain whats going on:
    **  Short answer is to use the following after the append:
    **  textArea.setCaretPosition(textArea.getDocument().getLength()
    **  However, if you really want to know what is going on, then I have
    **  I have observed the following behaviour in JDK1.4.2
    **  JTextArea will scroll automatically when text is appended, if:
    **  a) the caret is at the end of the text area, and
    **  b) the append is done in the event thread
    **  Note: Initializing a text area at creation time by any of the following
    **  aproaches will cause the caret to be positioned at the start and therefore
    **  scrolling will not happen automatically:
    **  a) JTextArea textArea = new JTextArea("Initial text", ...);
    **  b) textArea.setText("Initial text");
    **  c) textArea.read(someFile, null);
    **  The append method can be forced to execute in the Event thread by using
    **  SwingUtilities.invokeLater();
    **  Alternatively you can force a scroll by repositioning the caret.

  • Quality of scrolling text

    I am entering a contest that only allows for 250mb max. When I look at the scrolling text in the film once the movie has been uploaded to the contest's website, it looks pretty bad. Can I alter any of the expert settings above (or not mentioned) to specifically increase the quality and appearance of the scrolling text?
    I compressed the movie using expert settings:
    Movie to Quicktime Movie
    VIDE0: H. 264, Quality: best, encoding mode: multi pass; dimensions: 320x240, scale: letterbox
    AUDIO: Format ACC; sample rate: 32,000kHz, Channels: stereo (L R); bit rate: 80 Kbps
    FAST START (Prepare for Internet Streaming).

    If that's the only problem, another option is to use a thicker, san serif font like Arial so there's less to degrade during the video compression process.
    If they allow Flash or DivX formats, both of those can be high quality but small file size.

  • Navigation in scrolling text

    is there a away to make (Movie) navigation work within a
    scrolling text pane?

    Do you mean from a design point of view? If so, I think you could just use a separate layer for your logo, re-arrange the text layout to make room for the logo, and put both text and logo layers in one Group. Then keyframe or use a Behavior to scroll the Group up.

  • Smooth Scrolling Text

    I have a file from someone whose scrolling text (running from right to left) appears to run "jittery" when running.  Is there any possible solution to fix this?

    Read this from the FAQ on this website: FAQ: Why does horizontal motion stutter (judder) in my movies, such as during pans?
    If you have the original AE file the fix is fairly easy. If you have only the rendered footage and there are not sub pixel interpolation problems with the move you may be able to fix the problem by putting the footage in a higher frame rate comp and interpreting the footage to match. For example, if the rendered footage is 23.976 fps then change the interpretation to 29.97 by selecting the footage in the Project Panel and choosing File>Interpret Footage. Then put the footage in a 29.97 fps comp and render and test.

  • Scrolling text...

    Hi,
    I want to create scrolling text similar to this website:
    http://www.christianlouboutin.fr/
    If you enter the english site and then click on 'biography'
    which is the photo frame you will see what I want to achieve.
    There's a slider on the right hand side which you can move
    down or up to view the text. It seems realy smooth and just glides
    - if you get what I mean.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction. Maybe a website
    with a tutorial for idiots or even book that I can go out and buy
    with really good examples on how to acheive this.
    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance
    Michael

    Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines how to add text to your movie in iMovie. “Scrolling credits” is an option that you can choose:

  • How to key out black background - scrolling text

    Hi, I have created scrolling text for credits at the end of my movie. How do I key out the black background to use as an overlay? Am I missing a setting? Thanks.

    hmm ... if you save this motion project and import it into final cut pro, it'll be transparent.
    maybe i don't understand what you mean.
    you don't export a movie from motion, you save the file and the rendering is then handled by FCP.
