Keynote 06 export for "TV Safe" area

I have a title sequence for a DVD that I built in Keynote. It is totally self playing. I used the "Notebook" theme. I am having no problems exporting to a quicktime that I can use in iMovie HD, but I am concerned about most televisions clipping off the edges of the background. Is there anyway I can have a black border around the presentation? I like the formatting of the 800x600 show on a 1028x764 display. The black border looks great and creates the "TV Safe" area that I need.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Well, I gave it a bit more thought. Here's something to play with which may yield success. Create a 1024x768 presentation. Then create a second presentation that's 1232 x 768. Copy the 1024x768 one into it, and you should see it center on the slide with a gap to the left and right.
Now, many devices when given such a video will center it horizontally, thus giving you black space on all sides which is closer to, but not exactly, what you're looking for. Of course, this unfortunately changes the layout of your slides a tad, so the amount of rework might not be worth it, but maybe some variation of this way of thinking will lead you to tweaks that solves your problem at least to the point of not having to worry as much about TV Safe.

  • Can't export iPhoto SS to iDVD and get tv safe area to play

Does anyone know how to export a ss with music directly to iDVD in a format that when you burn the DVD and try to play it on a tv - the slides/text does not cut off. I have done it via a QT Movie export and import in to iDVD but the quality goes way down - ANY advise would be greatly appreciated even if it is - it can't be done - very very frustrated - Eva

    Eva,
The TV safe area (overscan) is one of the most frustrating things in video today! I sure hope that as we go to LCD and Plasma TVs, this topic becomes moot.
Regardless, my advice is to do what networks and TV producers do - just make sure nothing real important is outside the TV safe area.
And if you've got a photo or two with something you can't afford to lose, then matt that photo in photoshop or another image editor before making the slideshow.
And remember what I said about this becoming moot. I don't get any overscan on my new TV at all.....

    Hi,
PIX501 is a very very old Cisco firewall that has not been sold for a long time to my understanding. It also doesnt support even close to new software levels.
If you wanted to replace the PIX501 the corresponding model nowadays would be ASA5505 which is the smallest Cisco ASA firewall with 8 switch port module. There is already a new ASA5500-X Series (while ASA5505 is of the original ASA 5500 Series) but they have not yet introduced a replacing model for this model nor have they stopped selling this unit. I have a couple of them at home. Though naturally they are more expensive than your usual consumer firewalls.
But if you wanted to replace your PIX firewall then I would probably suggest ASA5505. Naturally you could get some other models too but the cost naturally rises even more. I am not sure at what price these are sold as used.
I used some PIX501 firewalls at the start of my career but have not used them in ages since ASA5505 is pretty much the firewall model we use when we need a firewall/vpn device for a smaller network/branch site.
Here is a PDF of the original ASA5500 Series.

I am afraid that its very hard for me atleast to troubleshoot this especially since I have not seen any outputs yet. Also the very old CLI and lack of GUI (?) make it harder to see what the problem is.
Could you provide the requested outputs?

  • Importing a Keynote export

I put a file from an keynote export 1024x768 into the timeline. FCP tells me to use clip settings, Along with this an audio file that in keynote repeated twice. The audio file I had to put in twice to equal length of visual clip.  I say yes. The problem is when I export as a quicktime movie there is not picture and audio only runs for about 15secs. The movie should be 5min. What should I set movie for. I used default for quicktime using DVCpro NTSC. Should I change to H264?
I am trying to put this movie online as a streamed file video/audio together as one file.

1024x768 is not a standard production format used anywhere in the video industry.
    NTSC is 720x486.
Redo your Keynote to reflect that or use one of the HD pixel dimensions such as 1280x720 or 1920x 1080. Yes, you will probably have to rebuild the Keynote slides. Dont forget to take safe area constraints into account if this is going to be shown on a TV or projection system.
Do not, under any circumstances use the H264 codec to edit with.

  • How to resize video to fit in safe area in Adobe Encore

    Hi guys,
Is there any way that my 1024x768 quicktime video be resized to fit the safe area (without using premiere to re-render) using Adobe encore? I've been looking for a solution as to how I can resize my video because when I play it on a dvd player some areas get cropped out and they actually do have inline text. Thing is, I can't edit the video anymore so the only file I have is the 1024x768 one and re-rendering it again via premiere will really take a long time since it's a 30 minute video. Thanks heaps

Exporting to AVI will lead to one generation loss for all the parts that need rendering. The advantage of doing it this way is you can let Encore decide on the best encoding settings. The drawbacks are the generation loss (which is nearly unnoticeable) and the fact that you only have 2.0 sound. If you have the Surcode plug-in and export from PP you avoid the generation loss and can export 5.1 sound. Both advantages, but it requires some careful planning and the use of a bitrate calculator to get the best settings for your movie. However if your movie is less than one hour just encoding at 8 Mbps CBR negates that. The calculator is only necessary for movies longer than one hour.
Another disadvantage of exporting to AVI is the added storage requirement and the extra time to create it.

  • Keynote export

I am trying to export a recorded keynote to quicktime (and garageband) but the narration does not come out in quicktime only the system audio from the embedded sound files. Is this part of the general bug that has been discussed in this forum or does anyone know a solution.

Love keynote, hate powerpoint but in the end I almost always have to use powerpoint as keynote never seems to export to power point quite right.
Until the "export" works better and you are able to hyperlink to powerpoint (is anyone listening - that is a suggestion I just made) it is very difficult to use keynote except for stand alone presentations on my own computer e.g. tomorrow I am chairing a two day seminar from my computer and because I can't link to the powerpoints of various speakers (12 powerpoint and 2 keynote) I have to change my presentation to powerpoint and, even though it is fairly basic (no whizz bangs) I have to go through and reformat every slide because it takes all my centring and text formatting out, changes the text box sizes, etc. Much as I love keynote for presentations I do by myself, until it works better with powerpoint it is virtually useless for 90% of the deliveries I do - where it has to interact with powerpoint to be viable.

  • Action Safe Area

    Hello,
I'm a "newbie" who is very eager to learn everthing I can about post-production using Final Cut Studio . . . I was going to reply to an archived post but not sure if anyone would stil be viewing that topic. Sorry if this is a well weathered question!
I've inversted in Apple Pro Training Text Books; Final Cut Pro 5; Soundtrack; Soundtrack Pro; Motion and DVD Studio Pro 4.
I'd like to learn as much as possible for myself, however any help from anybody would be appreciated.
Creating my project in FCP > Exporting to Quicktime > then Authoring in DVDSP.
Viewing in the simulator is exactly what I'm after!!
When I burn the project and play though the set top DVD player the images are cropped. I researched the issue on this forum and found posts explaining that the signal received by the TV was not the entire signal and that it was the TV that was the issue (I could be wrong, but that's the way it read to me) . . . I tested this theory by conecting my Powerbook to a projector via S-Video and selected - Digital Cinema Desktop Preview in the Simulator Preferences in DVDSP. Then I conected both the Yamaha DVD player (1 Year old) and the Pioneer DVD player (5 years old) and toggled between them to find out if my project would be successfully transmitted from both the laptop and a burnt DVD.
The result has lead me to believe the signal was not sent properly from the DVD players as both DVD players produced cropped results even though I was using a projector. The signal sent from the laptop was %100 and what I'd like to achieve from my DVD players. Weather in be a CRT, Plasma or Projector.
Are there any ways to compensate for the cropping eg: measurements or methods?
    Hope this all makes sense.
    Thanking you - JayMac

    Welcome to the forums, JayMac.
The title of your message, "Action Safe Area," leads me to believe you've read about your action-safe and title-safe borders, and that you realize that all TVs "overscan" images. It might not be ideal, but they all do it, and you need to adjust for it. That's why Final Cut, Motion, and DVD Studio Pro all include the option of displaying "action safe" and "title safe" borders. Going past those borders will risk images getting cut off on a TV set due to overscan.
Your test with the video output from a PowerBook was not a valid test, unfortunately. If I hook my PowerBook to a TV set, I absolutely need the entire screen to display on the set, particularly the top of the screen--otherwise I wouldn't be able to see the menu bar to make selections. Therefore, computers with TV-out are designed to compensate for overscan, so that the entire desktop is visible.
The bottom line is that every TV overscans, and every TV overscans by a different amount. By using your active-safe and title-safe borders, you'll be assured that those parts of your video or menu will be visible. This is the best way of handling things, rather than trying to "fight the power" and somehow compensate for overscan.

  • SAFE AREA - video is not all inside the SAFE AREA...can I manually do something

I discovers a video I am linking to from the menu extends outside the SAFE AREA...and when I play it on a TV it shows it is outside! :-(
The original .mov file is 1320x933. Is there a easy way to scrunch it into the SAFE AREA?
Same for my slide/photos. Can I automatically get them to do their thing INSIDE the SAFE AREA?
    Thanks, -bill

First, 1320x933 px is nowhere near DVD-legal frame size for video, which for NTSC is 720x480 px, and for PAL is 720x576 px.
Second, there's no way to "scrunch" video into the safe area in Encore. Safe area is what you keep in mind when you are actually shooting video...you frame to the safe area. Safe area markers are provided in Encore for setting up subtitles, and for designing your menus, so that these elements fit into the safe area.
That said, if you want to scale your video so that it fits into the safe area, you can do that in Premiere, and then re-export the video. Note, however, that on computer screens and widescreen TVs, your scaled video will show the entire frame, and outside of the safe area will display black.

  • Edit Color Sync for Exports for Web Sites

    Hi,
Perhaps this has been covered, but I've not found the thread. Most of the export color sync questions seem to revolve around printing or displaying on one's own monitor. Neither is an issue for me. However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out. Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB. I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile; however, my default EXIF - Expanded shows "Color Model" as simply "RGB", and "Profile Name" is Adobe RGB (1998) (my Canon 50D is set to sRGB). Again, I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors. Where/how can I change the export for uploading jpg's to the web.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile
If the profile were proprietary, it would be an illegal profile under the ICC Specification.
However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out.
If you did not disable embedding of an ICC source colour space in Aperture, if you did not use a non-ICC enabled browser, the OS X system level services will set up a ColorWorld and convert the pixels in your JPEGs matching from the ICC source colour space to the ICC destination colour space of your display. Thus you will get what you uploaded in the first place.
I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors.
The idea is that each and every colour device is calibrated and that calibration is captured in a colourimetric colour characterisation from which an ICC colour device profile is computed. Colourants that form certain colours one one colour device at one calibration will form other colours in the same colour device at another calibration and in other colour devices at yet other calibrations. By means of device profiles, the COLOURS can be kept constant while the COLOURANTS are recomputed to compel the device to paint the closest possible match it is capable of.
Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB.
The issue is whether people who post pictures do or do not embed ICC source colour spaces into their pictures and whether they pick browsers that are ICC-enabled or pick colour blind browsers.
To determine if there is an embedded ICC source colour space in a picture, download the picture to disk, open iApple Preview and select Tools > Get Info > Summary.
Colour Model: This defines the format or model of the colourants, e.g. three component RGB, four component CMYK.
ColorSync Profile: This defines the ICC source colour space. If there is none in the image file, the system level service assigns the Generic RGB Profile for model RGB, the Generic CMYK Profile for model CMYK and so forth. Therefore, any ICC source colour space than a Generic Profile source colour space is embedded in the image file itself.
In technical terms, the rule is that to construct a ColourWorld that does a colour space conversion through the PCS Profile Connection Space, you have to have an ICC source colour space and an ICC destination colour space (typically your display profile). It follows that the system level service ASSIGNS an ICC source colour space automatically where is none embedded. The ICC source colour space that is assigned when there is none embedded is the Generic RGB Profile for colourant model RGB, as explained.

    Hi Aryan,
Authorizations for the following transactions are required in BW
    1. RSA1
    2. SM37
    3. ST22
    4. ST04
    5. SE38
    6. SE37

    8. RSKC
    9. SM51
    10. RSRV
    11.RSPC
    13.RSMON
The Process Chain Maintenance (transaction RSPC) is used to define, change and view process chains.
Upload Monitor (transaction RSMO or RSRQ (if the request is known)
The Workload Monitor (transaction ST03) shows important overall key performance indicators (KPIs) for the system performance
The OS Monitor (transaction ST06) gives you an overview on the current CPU, memory, I/O and network load on an application server instance.
The database monitor (transaction ST04) checks important performance indicators in the database, such as database size, database buffer quality and database indices.
The SQL trace (transaction ST05) records all activities on the database and enables you to check long runtimes on a DB table or several similar accesses to the same data.
The ABAP runtime analysis (transaction SE30)
The Cache Monitor (accessible with transaction RSRCACHE or from RSRT) shows among other things the cache size and the currently cached queries. The Export/Import Shared buffer determines the cache size; it should be at least 40MB.

  • Strokes on appearance is getting cut off when exporting for web & Devices

I'm a screen print artist using Adobe Illustrator CS5 in windows 7(blah!) to export images of our customers' artwork into a huge folder of images on a server. The images are then loaded into a program so that they can be viewed company-wide and by the customer.
Occasionally, when there is an appearance applied to text it seems to cut off the tops and/or bottoms of the outermost stroke. This seems to be only happening to text, and happens randomly and is very annoying. See the image attached.
it does this with both JPEG and PNG images, and whats more, changes when you adjust the image size. it either gets better or worse. I have to change the image size on every export so that they are all within our size requirements.
I have found that if you put the art into an envelope with all the settings at 0 and then export for web it prevents this from happening. However, that isn't very efficient as i need to be moving a ton of artwork a day, and I am not the only person who may be working on the Illustrator file.
Is there any setting either in illustrator or windows that may be causing this anomaly?

    Try adding:
Effect >> Path >> Outline Object
So  your type will still be editable
If that does not work you may want to:
    Type: Create Outline
I only had this problem once before, on some snickerdoodle cookies package, and that was a script font. Might be related to the font you use.
