Keynote 09 grouping drives me crazy

Hi,
I know that other people had similar issues, but grouping objects in Keynote 09 drives me crazy. I work with 2 Mac: a brand new iMac 27 inches, and a MacBook for presentations. Both run Mac OS 10.6.2, both have the last version of Keynote.
I work on the SAME presentation on both computers. Everything is OK with the MacBook, but I can't group anything on the iMac. I read, I reinstalled iWork, I tried everything, but I can group nothing. I can't group 2 new shapes on a new white page, I can't group 2 text boxes...
Am I the only one ?
Thanks to you guys if you have any suggestion.

on a DVD that I burnt some time ago on a Philips deck. (DVD+R)
All your problems are related to this. The DVD recording decks seem to use a slightly different layout than normal DVD-Video discs. That's why you have a VIDEO_RM folder instead of a VIDEO_TS folder.
I'm sure there's a way to extract that stuff in MPEG2 format, which you could then use as assets to reauthor a disc in DVDSP. Never having done it, I can't tell you what the steps are to read stuff off of your Philips DVD+R disc, or how to extract.
Since you can use your external drive to get it to play, I would then copy the VIDEO_RM folder onto your hard disk, and use MPEG Streamclip (google for it) to see if it will open and extract video from it.
Hopefully others who have done this with their DVD record decks will provide much more precise steps.

  • IPhone sync drives me crazy!!!

    Hi there,
the sync with my iPhone doesn´t work regarding podcasts, music and videos.
When I activated my iphone the sync works well regarding addressbook and calender, but now everytime I plug the phone into the dock, iTunes apperas, the iphone appears in the list on the left side, the sync engine trys to sync music, podcasts but breaks down after 30 seconds.
Then the iphone disappers from the list and the whole process starts again after 30 seconds again. I even can´t charge my iPhone because the iTunes process starts over and over again and drives me crazy!
    Help!!!
    Best regards
    Axel

First of all, bring up iTunes without the phone attached and go the iPhone tab under preferences and checkmark "Disable automatic syncing".
Then attach the phone and check your various syncing options. You may need to uncheck everything but the music (and only sync with one playlist, and that playlist contain only one song) just to try and sort things out. There may be something in the sync that the iPhone doesn't like and you need to nail it down. The workflow will be to enable only one thing at a time, try the sync, and see if you can find out what the problem is (my guess is too much music but you never know).

Do you have Logitech Gaming Software installed?  If so, uninstall it and see if it resolves the issue.

  • Keynote group not pasting as dropimage.pdf so not resizable

OK, I need to know the secret handshake....
I use Keynote to create diagrams (i.e. charts, time lines, continuums, etc.) that I then group and paste into iweb. They have always pasted as dropimage.pdf (the name is viewable in inspector) and they can be resized as any graphic. They initially paste much smaller than original in keynote (which is OK). Nothing is editable.
Now I am having the problem that some groups drop into iweb with no name (i.e. not dropimage.pdf) and they won't resize properly (the graphic elements resize, but the text remains the original font size so that a + appears at the bottom of the text box because the text font is to large for the text box size after resizing). They intially paste the same size as original. The text is editable.
I have tried to see the difference between groups that paste as dropimage.pdf and ones that don't, and cannot see what the difference is (they are very similar).
How do i get items to consistently paste into iWeb as dropimage.pdf so they can be resized?
    Thanks

  • Stuck at Grey Screen, Disk Drive Making Crazy Noises

My wife was using the 12-inch Powerbook (which had always run fine), when she told me a box came up telling her she needed to restart the computer (in several languages). She did, thinking it seemed "official." When she went to restart, the apple logo came on, and then the screen went light grey with lines across the screen. I was afraid maybe it was some sort of virus she got, but Macs don't get those, right?
When I tried to restart with the install disc (even pushing the C button), nothing happened. The disk drive made all sorts of crazy sounds, and I was brought to the same box telling me to restart in a couple languages. I wasn't present when the problem happened initially, so I can't say what might have caused it. After reading other threads, I'm very worried about my HDD. Could a HDD crash have brought that restart screen?
Anything else I can try? Or am I looking at going to the Apple store with a possible hard drive crash?
    Thanks for the suggestions/advice.

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
You're getting a kernel panic, which is usually, but not always, caused by a hardware problem. This FAQ may help: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
When the disk drive makes all sorts of crazy sounds, that's usually an indicator that it's dead. If it's 3-5 years old, that's where they start to fail.
If you have the original OS X disks that came with your system, you can run the Apple hardware test to see if it confirms a hard drive issue. Insert the disk that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label. Reboot holding the alt key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. Does that give you any messages?

  • This Optical Drive is Crazy

My optical drive is going bad...I think. I can no longer burn movies. Brand new blank (high quality) media is not recognized when I try to burn. Every archived photo CD -- will not be read. When I put the Apple Install CD's in -- it can read that. It seems to be able to play a DVD. But everything I read seems to indicate this Matshita drive is crap.
Well, at least I have Apple Care, right? Right. But they want me to mail my laptop in to them. Mail my entire laptop in to God knows where??? Or take it to a store and they will MAIL it off for repair. I cannot be without a computer. I would be out of business. And do I really want all of my personal, business and client information to be floating around -- again -- God knows where.
If I had a Dell, they would come in one day and repair it on-site. I am so angry. I have been a Mac owner for over 20 years, and this type of customer service is why I will probably buy a Dell next time around.
Any thoughts, help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you work for Apple. Dell absolutely will come to your home, your office...they come to wherever your computer is -- so that you have no down time. That's a pretty darn good selling point, in my opinion.
LOL. Um, we manage over 600 systems, about 45% are Apple the rest run Windows and a good number of them are Dell. We have both Apple and Dell servers. When I call Apple and describe the steps that I've taken to figure out the problem and what my conclusion is, the actually listen, go thru their pages that tell me what steps to try, and suggest any that I have missed, or just plain out put in my order for parts. Straight forward and quick. We have called Dell before with a know problem, but have had to troubleshoot the same steps we already performed in house, time and time again, while they are on the phone. In one case, with a server, we were on the phone for over 6 hours for the span of 2 days before they agreed to send us out a new controller for our RAID. Mind you we have 4 hr (or is it 6?) same day support on these!
My point is.. every tech call does not go as smoothly as we would like. Apple keeps scoring at the top of service call satisfaction as rated by (from what I understand) an independent body. Nobody is saying that they are perfect. I have far fewer problems calling for support with Apple than I do Dell or HP. If your whole point was just to rant about service and not solve a problem.. then this is not the place for such a discussion.

  • Apple's latest noisy powerbook drives me crazy

I posted this on silentpcreview.com, and re-post here to share you with my experience with the latest apple product.
I just returned the latest verison of powerbook 12" to apple. Because it's so noisy.
I choose apple's laptop because many people in this forum said apple's laptop is very quiet. But that is not ture, at least for the latest laptop from apple (made since Nov. 2005)
The laptop has a G4 cpu running at 1.5Ghz, 80G Toshiba HD at 5400rpm, and a 64MB 3D card from Nvidia.
When I first turn on the powerbook G4 I notice the noise comes from the left part of the laptop. It seems the cooling fan is running all the time at low rpm. Together with the working noise from HD, it's impossible not to be disturbed in a quiet room working in front of the laptop.
I phoned apple saying the fan is always on, which is obviously uncommon. This book also has some problem reading os x dvd disc. They then arrange a replacement for me.
When I got the replacement (which is also brand new), I think this one should be quiet, but again I'm wrong. The background noise is the same as the first one I got. After consulting apple's user discussion forum, I found such noise is considered normal for a powerbook G4.
The book also runs hot very quickly. I already runs it at reduced speed (1Ghz), and lift the case with a notebook stand. The temp. of the cpu quickly jumps to 45C in 30 minutes even I'm just composing an email. Then the *real fan* turns on, with very loud noise for 1 minutes, only to drive down temp. by 3C. Then after 5 or 10 minutes, the temp. goes up to 45C again and the fan kicks in again. This happens even I'm just listening music through itunes which typically has a cpu usage of 15-20%.
The really bad thing happens when I watch a movie encoded in h.264 using quicktime7, a format apple said providing "stunning quality". Unfortunately, enjoying the "stunning quality" means the cpu will work at 70-80% (at reduced clock rate of 1G), and the cooling fan will run crazily all the time! A good movie can be easily ruined by the noise from the cooling fan. In fact I only watch a movie for 40 minutes and then quit quicktime because of the noise.
I then made a test: just turn on the powerbook and does not run any application, then the fan will fire up in one and a half hour! After that, the fan will kick in every 10 minutes, and I'm sure the cpu usage is as low as 5%!
I phoned apple again, and again they said it's normal, since the fan will kick in whenever the cpu is too hot.
I'm fed up with the hot issue. Beside this, the 'A' key drops out of the keyboard after one day of use! I finally ask a refund to end my very unpleasant experience with the latest powerbook.
Now I understand why Apple will switch to intel's chip next year, power G4 is simply too hot for a laptop.
If the ibook 1.25Ghz is quiet, I probabily will get an ibook instead. Or wait till Jan. next year when apple release its Pentium based intel laptop.
Or should I get a laptop from ibm or dell?
    What's your opinions?
    Thanks,
    ejoy

    Hi
can you please tell me how u set up the cpu freq from
    1.5 GHZ to 1 GHZ?
Just set cpu to run in reduced performance in the Energy Saver, which should run around 1Ghz.
While typing this, the cpu is around 55C, and the fan has been working for the past 30 minutes without stop (the laptop has been turned on for 3hr). the keypad is really hot now. I do not think many people can stand such a hot and noisy notebook.
Anyway I think the after-sale service of apple in uk is very good. They are very polite to speak to and will arrange a collection of my powerbook then issue a refund. No hassel at all. I just hope apple's hardware could be as good.

  • CD drive being crazy!!

I have a CD in the CD drive and my computer is not recognize it all. I can't get anything off it, and I can not get it to come out of my machine at all. Any suggestions???

    Hello glinda06,
Try turning your MacBook on and when you hear the startup chime hold down the eject button in the top right corner of the keyboard AND the trackpad mouse click button at the same time. Hold them both down for 10-15 seconds until the CD ejects.
If it doesn't come out then I would recommend bringing it to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. You can find one here:

I think those "services" do some uid / guid lookups which ends with NOT reaching the LDAP server due to no network at this stage. I tried to put the netconfig earlier in the boot but i went into troubles like

Any idea how to fix this issue ?

    I found a workaround
I get Network early available with the following steps
    Installed mkinitcpio-nfs-utils
    Modified the /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
Added the module for the networkcard
    MODULES="atl1c"
    Added "net" to the HOOKS
HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems usbinput fsck net"
    Run  mkinitcpio -p linux
    Added kernel parameter ip
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-linux ip=:::::eth0:dhcp root=/dev/sda1 ro init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd

  • CD-ROM driver going crazy! Really loud and spinning at high RPM..HELP!!!

I just bought a refurbished macbook 1.83 with dual celeron - I tried to install some software on it last night and my cd rom drive was really really loud. The cd sounded like it was spinning at the highest RPM and the whole laptop was vibrating. It did this the entire time the CD was in there. I just got this thing and havent used it more than a couple of hours. Has any one had similar problems? Does any one know what it might be?

My CD-ROM (combo) drive is also very loud and has been since I bought the macbook in July. I don't notice any vibrating, but I have to keep the DVD or CD volume very high in order to hear it above the noise of the drive. It doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it now, but next time I'm going to the Apple place in Vienna I'll probably have them check it out. If you find out anything more, please post it, I'm curious if this is normal or not.

  • Hard drive goes crazy for 60 seconds after iPhoto starts up

When I launch iPhoto 08 v7.1 (347) with a library of 1500 photos (about 2.5GB), my photos appear in about 3 seconds. But then my hard drive does a alot of reading/writing for 60 seconds straight. This hard disk churning happens every time I start up iPhoto 08. I don't recall this happening in iPhoto 6. I have a plenty of free RAM and hard drive space, and the CPU is barely utilized. I can do stuff in iPhoto while the hard disk is churning, so what is iPhoto doing in the background?
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I figured out why mds was running so long. I have an external firewire drive connected to back up my internal MBP drive periodically. I had disabled* Spotlight indexing on the partition that backs up my boot volume since I never needed to search there.
Apparently, Spotlight indexing must be enabled on any connected boot volume. So I re-enabled spotlight indexing and dragged the volume to the privacy pane in the Spotlight preferences so it wouldn't actually index anything even though it was enabled.
When launching iPhoto now, mds only spikes for a second, which is what I would expect as normal behavior. I tested this several times to be sure.
Bottom line, if mds is running unusually long when iPhoto launches, make sure all boot volumes, internal or external, have Spotlight indexing enabled. I don't understand why this is the case, but it is.
*Note: disabling/enabling spotlight indexing on a volume can be done through terminal commands or third party tools.
