Keynote 2 guide versus Keynote '08 software

I have a printed instructional guide for Keynote 2, but I just purchased the software Keynote '08. Is Keynote '08 significantly different from Keynote 2 so that a guide on Keynote 2 won't be good anymore?

You can still use it as most of the features of Keynote '08 are handled the same way. However, there are many things that Keynote '08 can do that, of course, aren't in that guide. The guide will help you to some degree and the built in help may be able to help you with the rest. Apple also has online tutorials.

This work around has always worked, it may make some changes to transitions but better that than be unable to open.
Export from version 6 as a PowerPoint, choose PowerPoint 2003 in the in advanced options.
Once you have the PowerPoint file open in Keynote.

I have created a keynote presentation in Keynote 08 on my macbook which was purchased in late 2007. When I try to open the file on my macbook pro which I purchased in 2012 the jpegs all are altered. They are muted in tones

I opened the saved presentation on a new macbook pro and the images are all distorted. The jpegs are altered and look like they had photo filters applied to them. Some pictures look like infrared photos, color cast and such. I'm running lion on both laptops. the presentation runs fine with no hang ups and the spinning wheel of death.

Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

What did you download and from where? Most downloads go to your Home/User/Downloads folder unless you've specified a different location in your browser.
If you downloaded the drivers from the App Store the drivers will be installed automatically and all you need to do is go to the System/Printers & Scanners preference pane as described below.
You will have to install the drivers after downloading the installer package. Lastly go to the System/Printers & Scanners preference pane and add the printer there. It will automatically locate the drivers and set it up.

Difference Between Keynote iOS and Keynote Mac

Tried finding a comparison of features of Keynote iOS and Keynote Mac to no avail.
Is the former a scaled-down version of the latter?

Keynote 3 versus 2 quits unexpectedly

Tried to open a PowerPoint presentation with Keynote 3-the application quits unexpectedly-this on my MacBook Pro.
I can go to my G5 and the presentation converts fine with Keynote 2.
But I'd rather not have to move my presenations off the MacBook Pro for conversion.
Any ideas?

if you think it's a major bug, then probably it's best to send feedback to Apple.
Look for a crash report: open Console.app in /Applications/Utilities
Then open File/Open Quickly/'~/Library/Logs'/CrashReporter/Keynote.crash.log
Check the date if it matches with your crash and copy and paste the log into your feedback message.

Upgraded from Keynote 08 to Keynote 6 cannot open document

It says "open it in Keynote 09" first.
How exactly am I supposed to do that, without Keynote 09 on my macbook air?

Apple do not respond to users questions, this is a user to user help forum.
Who writes software that will not even open old documents created by it's own software.
Its common for developers to create software that is not compatible with previous versions.
I want to open my Keynote '08 (ver 4.x) files in the new version of Keynote.
This is not possible you will have to convert them first.
Either that or I want my money back.
Phone Apple support, they can offer that option.

Cannot modify Keynote 08 in Keynote 09

Tried to find the answer to this by searching to no avail . . . sorry if it's been asked.
I have a simple presentation created with Keynote 08 and I'm trying to modify it with Keynote 09. The changes will not stick.
I've already deleted Keynote 08 from my applications folder. (I have software at home though if needed).
Any help is appreciated!

That was one of my two next thoughts. 1) you might want to ensure that you can save a NEW file in KN just to make sure and 2) that the file you are trying to edit is corrupt. Assuming you have no trouble working on a new file you can probably copy and past the old presentation into the new one.

Looking for easy to follow guide for building a software updates process.

I am hoping that I can get some general guidance here. I have responsibility for sccm 2012 in our environment. I also have to do exchange 2010, all Cisco networking and a few other large platforms. Needless to say it gets to difficult to get on a task and
stay focused for long periods of time. I tend to just sort of keep things running and that's all I usually have time for.
We have sccm 2012 and it's mostly used for OSD right now. I have been tasked with developing and implementing a process for critical updates across the organization. We have one primary site and three secondaries with about 2500 machines. There is no history
of doing updates here other than a previous person who used to do them via WSUS and GPO. But that has not happened for well over a year now. My problem is that I have no familiarity with doing updates via WSUS or sccm. So it's all pretty new to me. I
got Kent Agerlunds book and like his detailed approach and was hoping to just sort of adopt that process and tailor it to this environment.
I do have WSUS installed in our primary location and the SUP point on our primary and secondary servers. Things seem to be syncing fine. Now I need to try to put together a process that is easy to manage and works. The biggest problem I find is that
given I have primary ownership for a wide range of technologies in a company that is not a small mom and pop organization, it is difficult to sit down and get the necessary time to hammer this out. Everytime I sit down to work on this I feel I have to try
to learn it all over again. For some reason, probably my lack of experience with even WSUS or patching in general, they way this is supposed to work is just not sinking in effectively.
Can someone recommend a decent guide that is easy to understand and easy to follow? I find so much material out there on this topic that it gets a bit overwhelming and I spend what time I do have available jumping from document to document and not really
getting a decent foundation of how this is supposed to work.
Also, if anyone cares to chime in how they would maybe approach this task if assigned to them. Imagine and environment that has no software updates in place and basically never did. Machines are very, very outdated. I have disabled automatic updates via
a GPO ( this was recommended in the Agerlund book).
Also, since this is basically a ground zero environment should I have two focuses? One, just getting everything up to date, and then a second process for keeping things up to date?
I realize this is a really broad info dump that I'm asking for, but I find just googling and trying to figure this out ends up with a scattered bunch of links that I don't really feel help me just get started on the right track.

Hi,
You just need to deploy software updates to specific collections periodically, such as Automatic deployment rules, keep things up to date. Then monitor the status to make sure deployments are successful.

Keynote 06 to Keynote 08

I made a presentation on Keynote 06. When I switched my Macbook over to Leopard, I edited my Keynote 06 presentation on Keynote 08, and the file became corrupt. How do I fix this?

When you Save As, there is a checkbox at the bottom of the dialog box that you can check which lets you save as "iWork '06" or "iWork '05" format. These can be opened in Keynote '06 (which is part of iWork '06).

Major problems using Keynote 09 with Keynote 08 files

Keynote 09 seems to have been let out into the wild a bit too early. I have encountered several major problems when using it on older KN08 files. From the Scroll bar in outline view, to almost every movie or sound file being corrupted and requiring a "reinsert," to an annoyingly common problem with images losing their formatting. It seems that the new file format in KN09 does not play well with KN08 (this was not the case with any of the previous version upgrades).
I have contacted Apple and shared these problems with them. I have removed KN09 from all my machines and have reverted back to KN08. Hopefully a future patch will correct this file corruption problem

Your presentations sound like they are much more involved and memory intensive than mine. I only have a couple with movies/sound and those are quite short. So far (knock on wood) I've not had any of your problems. However, as a matter of course I always create a backup file before starting to edit an old important file with a new program. Keep us posted.

How do I get my iWork'09 3rd party Keynote themes into Keynote 6.0?

1. I had iWork '09 installed on my computer from the old installation disk. It was not clear at the keynote that I would receive the updates for free as I already owned them. I was expecting to see the updates when I opened up the App Store, but they were not there which gave the impression that I was SOL since I didn't purchase them through the App Store. I even received the message "[App name] is already installed, purchase anyway?", but that message is cryptic and not clear that I was going to receive the update, so I wound up purchasing the iWork apps again, just to wake up this morning to find out that I should have received them for free. I am truly hoping for a refund, because at $20 each, that's a big difference between that and free.
2. I opened up keynote to play with the new features, but because the internal architecture is different, it no long references my old themes folder in Library > Application Support > iWork > Keynote. I have tried copying the files to other permutations of possible reference folders in the global and user libraries, but have had no success. These 3rd party themes were not cheap either. I'm sure there is a way to get them to show up in the Keynote Theme Selector, but I haven't stumbled on it yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the link to the troubleshooting tips! It contained the correct answer which is:
"If your documents or changes still don’t appear, try creating a new document on your iOS device, and then check again for existing documents from iCloud to appear".
I created a test document in Pages and when I returned to my documents all the documents from iCloud reappeared.

Keynote blind to Keynote files

When I open Keynote, firstly it only remembers 2 previous presentations that have not been opened for months, but does not remember more recently opened files. Secondly, because of this bug, when I use the search bar and type in the name of the file I know I have recently worked on, it can't see it on the hard drive - even though it is there. It comes up with PowerPoint presentations of a similar name, but not a single Keynote file.
I have repaired permissions, I have been in System Prefs and played around with the options to reset Number Of Recent Items etc etc. It makes no difference. After a while, those same 2 Keynote files appear in the Recently Opened list - even though they have no right to be there.
Any thoughts anyone?

The following procedure has helped solve many issues with Keynote:
1 Close all iWork applications.
2 Uninstall iWork using an application removal tool.
   Appcleaner works well for this purpose and is freeware.
   To be effective, all iWork applications have to be removed, not just Keynote.
   You must use an application removal tool to completely remove the iWork installation.
3 Empty the Trash.
4 Shut down the Mac, then restart and press the shift key immediately after the startup sound, release      shift when the Apple icon appears. Allow the Mac to boot up to the desktop, it will take longer then usual      as the hard drive is being repaired.
5 restart the Mac
6 Reinstall iWork using either the original install files or log into the Mac app store and down load and install
7 Repair permissions: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First Aid:
    click on your system disc in the drive column and select Repair Disk Permissions
8 open Keynote and test
Post back to let us know if this was successful.

Is it possible to install new Keynote v6 ALONGSIDE Keynote '09?

Anyone know if it's possible not to update the existing copy of Keynote on your Mac and simply have the two versions run independently. I do this on a PC with Powerpoint. I have 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013 all running independently and would like the option to do the same with Keynote after hearing the horror stories of how the new version is a backward step!

If you install your old version of Keynote 09 from disc first before 'upgrading' (downloading v6 from the Mac App Store) you should be fine. I have now 'upgraded' all of iWork '09 on my iMac (not yet on the Air until it's fully tested) and all seems to be showing as side by side installs in each case. The new v6 in every case seems to be treated as a seperate programme rather than overwriting the old version.
Just remember that if you open a Keynote doc in v6 it may well corrupt it from it's original operating state from '09 (v5.3). Particularly important if you make use of a simple double click on a file to auto open it as it defaults to the newer version of the app. So BE CAREFUL!
