Keynote and Apple 30" Display

What is the best (optimum) size to make a Keynote presentation for displaying on a 30" Apple Cinema Display? The presentation will loop. Should I export the slide show to Quicktime or just use Keynote?

As in all cases, you'll get best results if the slide size is whatever the "native" resolution of the monitor is. In the case of the 30" Cinema Display, that appears to be 2560 x 1600.
If the presentation works fine in Keynote, I would not export it to Quicktime, as Keynote can loop a presentation just fine.

  • Best stand for MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display

I am buying a MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display tomorrow. I want to have a two display setup, similar to what I have seen in the Apple Store. I believe they used a Griffin Elevator. I want to make sure of two things: that the stand is sturdy enough so that my laptop won't slide off of it and that I can adjust the stand/monitor so that the tops are level (so that moving my mouse from the laptop to monitor and back is smooth - i.e. the cursor doesn't jump up or down.
I like the fact that I can use this setup to go mobile very quickly, but what about my direct Ethernet connection. I wish there were a stand/dock such that I could hook everything up to it and then just undock the entire machine.

How did you solve the problem of closing the Macbook Pro when it was connected to the display and preventing it from going to sleep?
I am thinking about buying one. When I went to the local Apple Store the tech guys told me that it would be necessary to keep the laptop open slightly when connecting it to the display. They said it was something to do with cooling. It didn't sound right to me. I'm sure that Apple didn't solely intend for the Cinema Displays to be used by Mac Pro and Mac Mini users.
There must be a simple way to "dock" or connect a Mac laptop (Macbook Pro or Macbook) to an Apple Cinema display or any other display with DVI input while keeping the laptop closed with an external keyboard and mouse connected and still be able to use the SuperDrive.
I'm very curious about how you handled this.
    All the best for now,
    Ambrose

  • New Mac Mini and Apple Cinema Display

I have just upgraded my Mac (G5 PowerMac) to a new Mac Mini.  I am still using my Apple Cinema display - but I cannot not play all the purchased movies that I have on iTunes now...????

    Greg,
Are these movies HD? If they are, you might be having a problem with HDCP which is copy protection that won't let you view movies if all of your equipment is not HDCP compliant, which probably is your Cinema display. I also have a late 2012 Mac mini with an older Apple 20" Cinema display and cannot watch HD itunes movies. You will have to watch in standard definition. Of course you might have  a different problem, but your question seemed similar with my situation. What is strange is that you were able to watch from your G5 Powermac. Maybe the power PC chip allowed viewing as opposed to intel chips, which I think intel created HDCP. Somebody on these boards probably has better answers then me ;-)

  • Keynote and Apple Aluminum Remote

I have used Keynote for a long time now and never had problems using it with a remote control.
I updated to Mountain Lion recently and **** broke loose! I cannot get Keynote to work with a remote if I am showing my presentation on a secondary display (an LCD TV connected to my Macbook Pro via an HDMI cable). I did manage to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) but it solved my problem only temporarily. I know the problem is not with the remote because when I use it with Keynote and I am not using a secondary display, it works perfectly. BTW, iPhone and iPod touch remotes are not enabled.
Anyone knows how to solve this?
    TIA

    An update:
The remote works well with Quicktime. I had to play an mp3 file and the remote apparently works well with you. Keynote seems to be the culprit...

  • 2008 Mac Pro and Apple Cinema Display 27"

Is there some sort of adapter that would allow me to plug the new Apple Cinema Display 27" with a 2008 Mac Pro? Or what change would I have to make to be able to work this out?

Adrian - did you end up getting an adapter and using it? I purchased the Atlona DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter (AT-DP200) to connect my 2008 MacbookPro (with GeForce 8600M GT) to the new 27 in. Cinema display, and though it works, it looks a bit fuzzy in terms of resolution. Having read the response here about making sure it is a DUAL link converter, I was going to try to return it for the AT-DP400.
Then I read another thread on here that seemed to indicate that the AT-DP400 would not work at all with the 2008 Macbook Pro.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2585380&tstart=0
So now I'm confused. Just wondering what your experience is, if you ended up with getting the display and converter.

  • Mighty Mouse/ OS Tiger and Apple Studio Display

Not really sure that this topic should go here or in the studio area, but here goes. A few months back I updated my G5 to apple OS X 10.4.x. Up until that point, I had a USB mightly mouse plugged into my 17" apple studio display and could restart my system with no issues.
After updating to 10.4.x, when I boot my system, the USB mightly mouse acts only as a USB mouse and is very sensitive to movement. When I move the mouse a small amount, the point zips across the entire screen.
Once the system is up - if I unplug the mouse from the display and replug it in, then it works correctly and is not sensitive - that is, it acts like it should with the settings I have setup for "speed" in the control panel.
I have searched high and low for others with the same issue and have come up empty. Anyone with any ideas?
    Thanks
    Brian

To clarify, upon restarting, the system sees the mouse as a two button USB mouse. Once the system is up, when I unplug the mouse and plug it bak in, the keyboard/mouse control panel, switches to reflect that this is a USB mightly mouse with all the various options.
This same behavior occurs when I use the USB port on the front of the G5's case.
Currently under the System Information ( apple in the upper left corner of the screen ), the system lists the mouse as an Apple Opticl Mouse, version 1.08
    Thanks

  • Keynote and apple TV

I really would like to use iPad Keynote with Apple TV. This would be a big money saver for our office during presentations but we cannot see how to do it right now. Basically it would mean we would buy apple TV modules for the office and then we would be free to do presentations in any of our rooms using wireless.
If this can be done can anyone explain how?
Does apple have plans to include this ability in future updates?

To the best of my knowledge, Keynote does not support Airplay, so this would not be possible though an Apple tV. You can, however, connect the iPad to a screen directly either via HDMI (or DVI with an HDMI to DVI adapter) or VGA. Keynote does support video out.
Whether or not Apple has plans to add Airplay support to Keynote, no one here will know since we're all just fellow users.
    Regards.

  • Windows 7 and Apple Thunderbolt Display

I'm having difficulties getting the 27" Apple Thunderbolt to work reliably with my 13.3 MPPr using Win7 and Bootcamp. All the Bootcamp drivers are the latest, and the display works just fine using OSX 10.8.  When booting into Win7, the external display is dark, but audio, USB, and ethernet seem to work just fine..just no video.  Has anyone found a work around for this..  It's getting really frustrating.

TIP: Fix for Thunderbolt problem with Windows 8 in Boot Camp
Boot Camp users who updated Windows 7 to Windows 8 may find that a Mac booted with Windows 8 does not recognize Thunderbolt . According to a new Apple tech article, the problem is an incompatibility with the Windows 8 Fast Boot feature (also called Fast Startup). The workaround is to disable Fast Boot using the Windows Control Panel.
    Here's how:
In Windows 8, open the Control Panel. (You can move the mouse to the upper-right corner to activate the Charms bar, click the Settings icon, and then select Control Panel.)
    Select Hardware and Sound.
Under Power Options, choose Change What the Power Buttons Do.
Under Shutdown Settings, uncheck the Turn On Fast Startup. Checkbox.
Click Save and then restart the Mac back into Windows.
After restart, Windows 8 will recognize Thunderbolt devices attached to the Mac.

  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and Apple Cinema Display compatibility

I'd like to buy an Apple Cinema Display for my 5-year-old Power Mac G5 with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, but I'm having trouble understanding what I can and can't hook up to my system.
I was thinking of getting a 30" display, but the Apple Store says I need a Dual-Link DVI, which I don't think my graphics card supports, but the Store also says I need an ATI Radeon 9650 or better, which I imagine the 9800 Pro is.
I've looked at the ATI site for data on the graphics card, but their online manual shows a completely different set of connections on the card. They show VGA and S-Video out ports that mine doesn't have.
Does my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro have dual-link? If so, can I use the 30" display? If not, can I still use the 30" display?
If I can't use the 30" display, are there any compatibility problems with the 23" Apple Cinema Display?

The 9800 is faster than the 9650, but it doesn't have a dual-link DVI port.
Make sure you were looking at the Mac section of ATI's site. PC and Mac versions of the same card may have different port configurations.
AGP cards with dual-link DVI, starting with the fastest:

  • Leopard, Vista and Apple Cinema Display

I've searched the discussion forum for problem with my Apple Cinema Display, but most of the threads don't seem to fit exactly my question, which is:
*Is there a driver for 23" Apple Cinema Display for Vista?*
I have a brand new MBP (15", just 2 weeks old). I used Boot Camp (v.2, as part of Leopard) to install Vista.
Threads in the discussion forum seem to be more related to 30" display and v.1.4 of Boot Camp.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you Stefan. Well, it fixed the problem, but only partly:
I can get a picture in the 23" Apple Cinema Display, but after re-start (in Vista), it disappears. I need to go to Display Settings in Vista control panel to reset the monitor. The every time I try, it gives me different options (e.g. resolution, main/secondary monitor, refresh rate). Sometimes I can get the picture back, and sometimes I can't.
It's unbelievable that Apple doesn't even support its own hardware in Leopard!

  • New Mac Pro and Apple Cinema Display

Warning, for those of you upgrading to the new Mac Pro and you plan on using your old Cinema Display, you will not get the maximum resolution out of the display. In fact, you only get 1650 x 800--which of course is way under utilizing install resources and on top of that not a great picture. Even using recommended set up (mini display to DVI adaptor) does not help. You need a Thunderbolt Display for best video performance. Unless someone out there knows a way to do this--be prepared also to buy a new display.

Turbostar, it is the Apple 30 inch cinema display. Yes it works but the max resolution is 1650 X 800 which while acceptable does not get me 2560 x 1600 which my D500 GBUs would deliver. The new Pro is optimized for a Thunderbolt display, I am using the correct  connection protocols as recommended by Apple on their web page for this system. There is a specific note in Apple support noted that Cinema displays will only  provide xxxx resolution on the new Mac Pro's. Corsair.

  • Keynote and Apple Script

I need a script, runnable on a Mac acting as a server, that can do the following without human interaction.
    1. Open a keynote file - we can open keynote file manually
Automative should finish following tasks ..
    2. From the "Share" menu within KeyNote, select "Export..."
    3. Choose "Images", keep the format as 'Jpeg' and the quality at 66%, click "Next..."
    4. Create a "New Folder" (may be we can create similar file name like 1.key ----> folder name 1/but this should be done by automatic )
    5. Click "Export"
    6. close keynote
I need this to be able to run from the command line somehow. I'm not sure the best way to do this: applescript? or work flow ?
    thanks fin advance

The following script seems to work flawlessly under Mac OS X 10.6.5 with version 5.0.4 (633) of Keynote ’09, using the +default preferences+ of the application.
Since the script uses [GUI Scripting|http://www.macosxautomation.com/applescript/uiscripting/index.html], you should first enable the Accessibility Frameworks by clicking the checkbox labeled "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access System Preference pane.
To run the script from the command line, just type something like the following in the Terminal window:
    *~ username$ osascript /Users/username/Desktop/Keynote\ script.scpt*
if the compiled script, for instance, is named "Keynote script.scpt" and located on the Desktop.

  • IBM T23 and Apple Cinema Displays??

I have just purchased an Apple 23" Cinema Display for my 4 computers. I have a DVI switcher as well. I have 2 Desktop PCs, a PowerMac G5 and a T23 laptop (for work). My cinema display works great on the 3 other computers because they all support DVI. I have the port replicator for my T23 and thought it would support DVI based on the connector on the back. Problem is, it doesn't. (Found this out after reading alot online).
To make a long story longer, I cannot use remote desktop on my T23 because I use a VPN to connect to work all day and that negates RDP from one of my other computers.
I have tried a passive VGA to DVI adapter, but the Cinema Display will not see the signal. I am sure it is not powerful enough, or in the right clocking speed...or that it is not digital.
I was wondering if anyone else with a T23 has had any success with this type scenario. I am trying to not have to buy a $299 powered VGA to DVI adapter.
Any info would greatly be appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Doug

If you have a 8th inch to RCA(the three red, white, and yellow prongs) adapter. Then yes.
Other than that, apple sells a cable that you can plug into your iPod that will allow you to plug the iPod in to a TV(or anything with RCA in).

Just joking. I didnt see that you wanted to use it with the cinema display thing.
I dont have that, so I really dont know. Sorry. It was worth the try.

  • No Power on G4 and Apple Flat Display

This is what led up to the No Power event.
For the two days prior the computer was quiting out of applications ( Just iTunes sometimes and sometimes just Photoshop CS2) and going to the Log In screen even though I have it set to Never sleep or ShutDown in the preferences.
Also after I would do a SHUTDOWN the computer would boot itself back up.
The last event before the NO POWER issue was that I did not want the computer left ON and it kept rebooting itself after I SHUT it down, so after the last ShutDown before it had a chance to boot I unplugged it from the Power Source.
The computer booting itself up from a SHUTDOWN state is a problem I have had before.
Ever since I purchased the G4 and the Apple Display, the DISPLAY had a problem that kept turning the computer ON by istself after it was completley SHUTDOWN. Apple had me disable the Power Button on the screen through the preferences and that work around seemed to solve it. Now several years later, even though that setting is still disabled the computer was turning itself ON again.
Any help on getting the computer to power up again would be wonderful. Thank you.
G4   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   Apple Flat Panel Display

I have seen this problem with several different computers, from time to time (Windows boxes, particularly). I have an idea why it is happening: the power is not being completely cut to the machine.
    Some other things to try:
    1) The power button on the front of the case.
    2) Disconnect all other devices but the keyboard and the mouse from the USB bus, and if you can, put them on different ports. Then try powering down from the keyboard.
    3) Check to see that the power connection from the motherboard to the PSU is tight.
    4) Make sure that there's nothing else in the case that's rattling around loose. If you have a screw loose inside a motherboard, all kinds of weird things can happen.
It's probably not OS X. It probably is the power supply, the USB port, or the motherboard. Not cheery news, I know. :o

  • KeyNotes and Apple script / scripting Bridge

    Hi
Sorry I am a recently started development in Mac OS, so may be this question is very simple for you guys
actually I am looking to manage Keynote application automatically from Mac Server application, I know apple script is available for lot of functionalities available in keynote but i want that all these things happend without showing anything on GUI , like i want to do all the automation on background without effecting the running GUI of keynote
if anybody can have idea how to do it in Apple script or using ScriptingBridge, I will really appriciate your help and support

depending on what you want to do, this may or may not be possible (most likely not).  Applescript works by scripting other applications: some applications are set up do do background tasks, some applications are duplicated by osax or unix utilities that operate invisibly, but most often applescript has to open a document in the application and work on it through the application.
scripting bridge is for cocoa developers: it allows cocoa apps to script other apps.  it's not really useful for you unless you want to develop specialized software.
    more details would be helpful.
