Keynote and Video

Hi all,
this is a stupid question but i have never used keynote before!
I have placed a video inside a slide, setup the show as a self playing show with 10sec timings.
It plays 10sec of the movie and then moves on, its a long show, 254 slides 254 seperate length movies any idea how i can stop this from happening and make it transition after each movie ends?
any help greatly appreciated
Tim

Select the slide. Select the movie. Then use the Inspector's Transition tab to set the Transition to Start Automatically and set the Delay to be the length in seconds of the QT movie. You may need some trial and error to get the timing just right.

  • Show keynote and video explanation together!

    Hi everybody!
During Apple Keynotes they usually show the video of explanation of the new products and the presentation slides together on the screen (zooming in and out all the time). I wasn't able to figure out how I could do the same. Can somebody of you help me with this? Is it a matter of Keynote? Is it a matter of iMovie? Or do I need some additional software?
    Thank you very much!

Sure, consider this link. It's of the last Apple keynote:
    http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/0909oijasdv/event/index.html?internal=ijal rmacu
Sometimes the camera shows Steve and the Presentation at the same time. That's what I mean. Or, for example, when you use podcast producer 2 in a network you can make a presentation and show yourself at the same time. Consider this link for that:
    http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/features/podcast-producer.html
Thank you! I hope this helps!

  • Is it possible to embedding a video in Keynote and then play as a PDF?

    Hi
Is it possible to embedding a video in Keynote and then play as a PDF?  I want to do a PowerPoint/Keynote presentation that includes videos from YouTube.  My preference is use Keynote although I do have Office 2004.
My issue is that the places where we present have their own equipment so we are encouraged to bring the presentation on a USB/portable HD, and they tend to be Windows environments.
In my perfect (ignorant) world, I'd
    Create it in Keynote
    Add/embed videos from YouTube
Save it as a multi platform file like a PDF
I guess the key issue is:
Is there a way to create a multi platform presentation with videos (I think Keynote and PPT require different video formats???) that can be carried on USB/portable HD?
    Thanks

No, it's not possible without using hacks. And Adobe can't support or endorse hacks
Bear in mind that not only there are new features in a new version which can't possibly be recreated by an older version - also, there are enhancements to existing features, which would make them render differently in the two versions.
That said, there are people posting such hacks, as Sébastien pointed out.

  • New Keynote and Music Videos

I recorded a friend using Logic Pro, and then after bouncing the song to mp3, I added it to a Keynote slide (the new Keynote that came with Mavericks).  After that, I added a video and matched up the audio and video.  In order for me to upload this video on youtube, the keynote file would have to be in a quicktime format, so I exported it to quicktime.  All was fine and good until I opened the quicktime video and it was only 8 seconds long, and the audio and video were all out of wack. I tried and tried again, but to no avail. Suggestions?
    Cheers

You've hit upon the solution -- create two presentations, one with the first part of the presentation without music, and the other with the second, musical half. On the last slide of the first half, create a hyperlink to the second presentation.
(See this thread for a bit more detail on this issue.)

  • Unexpected Error in Keynote wipes out pictures and video clips

I have been working for several days on a Keynote presentation. I went to save my file and received the following message:
"An unexpected error has occurred. Please quit and reopen Keynote"
All of the sudden, every single one of my pictures and video clips was gone. The text still remains. I closed Keynote and reopened my file and received "missing object" error messages for any slide with pictures or video clips.
I tried and tried to restore the file, with no luck. So I did a "Save As" - the new file has no pictures or video clips. I also tried to export with no luck either.
Then I went and was rebuilding the file. I manually put all my pictures and clips back in. About 2 1/2 hours into it, on a totally different slide than before (about 10 frames prior to where it crashed before) I went to save and got the same "Unexpected error" message and lost everything again.
I did a permissions repair on the hard disk here are the results:

    Permissions repair complete
This was the result of my permissions repair.
My question is if this crash was caused by the messed up permissions or not. I just don't want to dig into this Keynote again and have it crash on me and lose it all again.
    Any suggestions?

I redid the file again after the permissions repair and it did the same thing. Now, I can still see all my images and files, but it won't let me save. It says that the file cannot be saved. It won't let me export or do a Save As. Getting very frustrating...

I created my first movie using one long video (a montage of photos) clip created in Keynote and imported to Imovie.  I added many music clips, some overlapping. I now want to lay down a new updated video clip, eliminate the original video, but retain the audio. Can I?  And if so, how.  I cant seem to
find the info anywhere in help.

I would suggest that you go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that Advanced Tools are enabled.
Then, you can drag your new video clip on top of your old clip and a popup menu should appear. Choose REPLACE.

  • KEYNOTE various videos and trouble combining

I have a large Keynote wedding video that is bits of five songs and photos are extremely sensitive to audio. I am handicapped and can't manually click each section and don't want to burn it due to the decrease in color quality. Is there a way I can tie each section with the corresponding music together and not make one large song? There seems to be a second or two change when going from Garageband to Keynote etc.and one second throws everything off. I have recorded each section but have never presented a recorded video. Plan is to take it from my iMac to wife's iPad but having trouble piecing together. Suggestions?

  • Keynote (and other iWork apps) not saving properly!

    Hi all
I have had some strange problems over the last few weeks where I get messages telling me that iWork (usually Numbers) cannot save the files as 'something else' is using the file.  So I click 'save anyway' and I get strange files in folders, ie folder and file name is the original name plus some gooblygook.
I have got round this by deleting the 'extras' and carrying on.  But now I am preparing a major presentation in Keynote and suddenly it is not saving graphics some of the time!
For example I was working on a slide - and suddenly got a message that 'some problems occured' -
    Couldn’t save image. - image.png (Slides: 12, 13, 17, 18; Skipped slide count: 1)
    Couldn’t save image. - image.png (Slides: 12, 13, 17, 18; Skipped slide count: 1)
I have been working with this presentation for some time and have never encountered any problems - passing between my laptop and my iPad to review and modify (mainly viewing on the iPad and editing on the MacBook).
Any ideas what is happening?  I have a major presentation to give in just over a week and I don't want to use PowerPoint!
    Thanks
    Ian

I've been having some success NOT using any files that have previous images or audio in them, starting from a base template and then adding audio and video and photos that are already on my hard drive, not previous Keynote files. Today I needed five slides that were part of another deck and, you guessed it, they were corrupted (or missing) when I reopened the file, only the thumbnails remaining.
I closed the original Keynote file, placed a zip extension, then control- clicked to see the contents. The images were missing from the package. I then replaced the extension with .key and reopened in Keynote. The audio file had been there but not the images or the drawing, which I then searched for.
Yes, delete the weird file backups and make a backup of the original in the finder. Then lock it! (You're using Mountain Lion?)
I have a huge presentation tomorrow. I have five backups, including on a thumb drive.
    How much longer Apple?

  • Keynote and Pages files on Ipad

My Videos app is crashing after renting a video on iTunes - so I want to restore settings.  Will I lose Keynote and Pages (and Goodreader, etc.) files when this happens - or will I get them back when I sync?

Not if you restore from a backup you've made on iTunes.  All the settings, etc. will be the same.  Of course, there may be corrupted files in the backup that are causing your crash.  Give it a try and see what happens.

  • Can I mimic a 'slide show' of stills and videos with this technique

I want to be able to mimic an old fashioned slide show on a Blu-ray disk, except that each 'slide' – I'll call them items – could be a true still, or a still with pan/zoom, or even a short video. Whatever a particular item is, I want to click a button and the show advances to the next item. If the next item is a video, the video pauses on the last frame when it is finished.
Just like the old magazine full of slides, imagine a folder full of items – some may be stills, some videos. After importing into Encore, setting up the navigation and menus, and then burning to Blu-ray, I want to be able to play them in sequence at the press of the Enter button.
I'm pretty much a novice with Encore, and to save spending more time reading the manual, I thought I'd ask if I can mimic a slide show in Encore with the technique described below. I got the idea from page 152 of the PDF manual:
The buttons on a menu are the primary navigation tool for the viewer. They control how the viewer steps through the project. Each button in a menu must lead to another menu, a timeline, a chapter, a playlist, a chapter playlist, or a slide show.
My limited experience with Encore is to set up a series of videos on a single timeline, and generate one menu with a "Start" button on it. When the Blu-ray starts up, the Start screen appears and stays there until I press Enter. Works well.
A slide show of stills using buttons only
So I thought: to generate my old-fashioned slide show (ignore videos for the moment), I would use the buttons themselves as the stills, taking my queue from the quote above: "Each button in a menu must lead to another menu…". My slide show would consist of jumping from one menu to the next. This leads to my first question:
Q1: Is it possible for a menu to have a full-screen button, call it the Image Button, that is actually the still image that is desired to be shown? So the viewer sees the Image Button, thinks it's the image (which it is), but it is actually a button. When the viewer presses Enter, the button activates and goes to the next menu which also happens to be the next full-screen image. The viewer is jumping from Image Button to Image Button, with the buttons filling the screen and being the actual images.
    A slide show including videos
To include a video in the slide show, the destination when Enter is pressed would be a timeline with the appropriate video. At the end of this video, the navigation would lead to a menu which has an Image Button of the last frame of the video. The effect is that the video is paused on the last frame, waiting for the user to hit Enter to advance to the next item (still or video).
If there is an easier way to mimic a slide show of stills and videos, please let me know.

Stan – I posted 3 years ago in the Keynote Forums (I'm on Mac) about this sort of thing, knowing that eventually I would want to do it. The answer came back then that Keynote might have problems. So I've recently posted again about Keynote, but no responses as yet.
I expected problems with Encore and welcome some of them. Overcoming problems is the best way to become intimately involved with software.
I'm glad you asked why I don't just use Powerpoint (or Keynote in my case). Now's my chance to clarify my thoughts:
Macs do not upscale very well. Sometimes I may want to show part of a DVD. I've tested playing a DVD on my iMac versus on a Oppo BDP93, fed to a BenQ W7000 projector throwing a 3 metre image. There is an obvious difference in image quality because the Oppo, being hardware based, can interpolate in real time as it scales from 576p (PAL) to 1080P. DVD Player on my iMac simply magnifies the image, resulting in obvious pixellation.
Dissolves and complex effects in Premier challenge any software based h.264 player. I don't like to see decoding artifacts, for example, during a dissolve while a part of the image is also reducing in size, spinning, and disappearing into the distance. An extreme example, but an effect I used once. From my reading of blu-ray player reviews – and from my limited testing – all blu-ray players can easily handle the highest bit rates from a blu-ray disk.
I don't have a laptop so I'd have to buy one. I'd rather spend the money on a dedicated player if that route turns out to be suitable.
I don't trust computers for a presentation. Too unreliable. When I was showing multiscreen audio visuals in the 1980s (4-6 projectors), I always had a backup Tascam 4-track with me, back up soundtrack on tape, back up amp, and a backup slide projector. Even had a backup amp in the car. Speakers, well, if one failed I had two there anyway. With digital, to feel comfortable, I'd have to buy a second laptop. A good quality, backup Blu-ray player can be had for $100. And yes, I do have a backup W7000. I don't trust digital projectors either.
Running a presentation from a laptop always looks amateurish to me. Someone hunched over a tiny screen, fooling around with Windows or OSX. And usually it's all mirrored on the big screen for everyone to see. I'm never impressed. I want to replicate a cinema experience as closely as possible. Darkness, the audience hushed, and up comes the first image.
Any suggestions about automatically linking a whole heap of menus?

  • Using Keynote and iPhoto slideshow together

    Computer: 12" Powerbook G4, 1.5ghz
Display: 23" Apple Cinema Display (1920x1200)
    Software: OSX 10.4.9, Keynote 2, iPhoto 6
Hi everyone! Above are the specs for the project I'm working on and here's the problem I'm having:
I am trying to create a makeshift kiosk display for an upcoming event using slides in Keynote and a picture slideshow in iPhoto. I'm planning on running it off my Powerbook to my 23" Cinema Display.
I'm using Keynote for the presentation content because of the motion effects (transitions, build-ins, etc.) and iPhoto for the image slideshow because of the Ken Burns effect (which I don't believe Keynote has). Both look great running seperately, however when this is being displayed at the show, I'll need both to run back to back automatically, without having to manually switch back and forth between applications.
I have both the Keynote presentation and the iPhoto slideshow displaying at 1920x1200. I've tried exporting the iPhoto slideshow to Quicktime, but it won't export any higher than 640x480. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this work? I won't be able to operate the computer when this is running, so I really need to find a way to make everything run seamlessly while keeping the high resolution of the 1920x1200 monitor.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Steve
    PB 12" 1.5ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

iMovie is a DV editing app and the final results would still make a 640X480 file.
I would change a few things to make everything work together:
First is the display resolution. You want the 23 inches to be used so just reduce the display preferences to try and match your QuickTime file. 800X600 sounds about right but larger will still work as H.264 Video scales up in size very nicely.
This would force you to "reduce" the dimensions of the Keynote file but that shouldn't be much of an issue.
QuickTime Pro could also be used to "change" the dimensions of the 640X480 file. Again, H.264 scales up in size and would look pretty good at even double size.
The goal is to have them both at the same dimension and then match the monitor resolution.
Easier to change the display than the files.

  • Keynoye and Video Side By Side Help

I am looking for a plugin for keynote that allows me to record the presentation and video side by side ie picture in picture. video one window slides the next. I progarm simular to Powerpoint Producer.

    kglad,
thanks for your reply. Sounds like this may work, but being a Flash novice, would you be able to direct me to some "how to" documents and/or online video of how I can do this, especially the "load it and your flv into a master swf"?

  • Can I create a presentation in iPhoto that will combine still slides and video?

I have just returned from a safari and have a lot of pictures and videos from the trip.  I would like to create a presentation/slide show that will show the slides and also videos in the same slide show and allow me to manually pace the show.  I know how to do this in PowerPoint but would rather use a more natice mac ap and thought it might be possible in iMovie or iPhoto but am not sure exactly what the best way to do this would be.

If you want a native Mac application for your slideshow you could also try Keynote, the Apple alternative to Powerpoint. It will give you similar presentation options.
Aperture - if you have it - would allow to trim the videos, allow more fine control over how the audio of the clips will be mixed, and still allow to manually pace the slideshow, but it is expensive and will no longer be developed. But if you have compatible versions of Aperture and iPhoto, simple open your iPhoto Library in Aperture: Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture

  • Identifying image and video file names in my presentation

I want to identify the file names of all the images and videos in my Keynote presentation so that I can re-assemble the presentation in Final Cut Pro . . .  I thought that just using Inspector might give me the file names, but it only shows me what the image or video looks like, but not the file names.
My photo images are not in iPhoto (I don't use iPhoto), they're in various other folders.
    Thank you.

There are two ways to find file names of media used in Keynote:
    1
for a few images, select the images on the slide
    Inspector > Builds
    click on more options
if there are no builds set up, choose an effect
the file name will display in the build order:
    2
It is more usefull and easier  to do the following:
right click the Keynote file and select     Show Package Contents
all the images and QuickTime files will be listed
you can make a screen grab to make a note of the file names (in finder -  command shift 4)
the files can be copied to a folder and imported into other applications for further work

  • Keep losing links to image and video files

Please help! I been working on a big presentation on Tuesday. I have built a presentation that contains many images and videos. Everytime I save the presentation and leave the machine, when I open the presentation again, many of the pages of the presentation are blank with a big question mark on them.
I just started having this problem on Friday, after many months of building Keynote presentations on my PowerBook with no problem.
    What is happening?

Keynote 3.01 still has the annoying habit to import some (some!) of the pictures and clips only as a reference to the original, even when working in the mode that should integrate all these files. In my experience this happens most likely when you use drag and drop rather than import for insertion into the Keynote file.
As long as the original is still anywhere on your hard disk, there is no problem, even if it has been moved or deleted (sent to trash). After you empty the trash, however, the files no longer are displayed in Keynote. You can still see an empty frame for the file and find the file name in the menu with the ruler icon. However, this file no longer exists on the hard disk.
If you copy the file to another disk or duplicate it on the hard disk itself, the files are properly imported and the problem will not occur.
In other words, do not drop files into Keynote, import them. To be absolutely safe, duplicate the files and keep only the duplicate.
Nasty bug but this is a workaround to avoid it.
