Keynote Backwards Text

I just set up a Keynote with multiple masters and started to apply them to content.
When I edit the master text on a normal page the text I enter either comes out backwards, or can't be edited at all.
This is not something I should have to troubleshoot. After already dealing with file sharing issues requiring creating a zip file every time a document is transmitted, I'm mandating my workgroup stop using Apple's software. This is a pathetic software and a complete waste of my time.
I'm very upset. Literally 30 years of Apple fan-ship down the toilet since I installed Mavericks. There's nbothing that can replace the time in my life I've spent troubleshooting in the last 6 months.

I do not actually desire for this to be a public post . If there were a private support area, I would have posted there. Discussions is the only way I know to share product feedback. Sorry to have to be blunt about my frustration.

  • 2nd gen iPod nano has blurry, upside down and backwards text suddenly

I have a second gen iPod nano and after a couple of weeks the screen is blurry upside down and the text is backwards. I have tried resetting it and restoring to factory defaults. Nothing helps. It is fully charged. I followed the troubleshooting instructions from Apple and I didn't find this listed on the forum.  Thanks for the help.

I would have to disagree with you. I like the shake and shuffle feature. I would assume people also use ipods for travelling/commuting. Bus rides, trains, flights and so on.
But, to each their own opinions I guess.
    Peace!

  • Keynote: Replace Text under Document Warnings Gone?

One of the most critical features I use in Keynote 5.3 on nearly a daily basis is VIEW > SHOW DOCUMENT WARNINGS > REPLACE TEXT for missing fonts.
    Is this feature gone?
I'm in the process of testing out Keynote 6.1 to compile a list of all the bugs and missing features. So far it looks like when I open a file with missing fonts, I get a vague warning note that "some of the fonts are missing / might not appear correctly" but there doesn't appear to be any detail, or any option to replace them with other fonts.
I hope I have overlooked something. Can anyone else weigh in on this, please?

Try this repair for Keynote 6.2,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1  delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update,
              its a freeware application
2  restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3  immediately after the start chime,  press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
let it fully boot up,  it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
    4  when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility;
click on the boot drive  then First Aid tab and      click  repair disc permissions
5  when complete, restart the Mac normally
6  install Keynote from the Mac App Store
Please report back to let us know if this helped.

  • AE error - BACKWARDS TEXT

I'm using CS6 Production Premium and I opened my AE and the text is all entering backwards.  Meaning as I type words in, the text goes from right to left, so in order for me to spell something correctly I have to spell the word backwards.
EXAMPLE: if I type the word royal, it comes in as layor.
Has anyone experienced this before?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

  • Ipad and keynote changing text size in presenters notes

I've imported a presentation from PPTX to the latest version of keynote for the ipad. How do I change the size of the presenters notes as they have come out way too small.

Pinch your fingers and spread them out to zoom out.

  • Keynote says "text" when I play it

I was doing a presentation and I put in a piece of music and when I tried playing my presentation, it said "Text" on the first slide. I read that this is some kind of a bug, is this true? If it's not then how do I fix it

Does the music play?  If its set to click on play, press the space bar or click the mouse to play the music.
If you want the music to play automatically:
Inspector > Animate > Build In >  click Build Order and change Start setting from on click to After Transition
    Delete the unwanted text box.

  • Keynote 4 - selecting text in text frame causes spinning beach ball

One friend of mine called me tonight and was seeking for help. He has Mac OS X 10.5.1 and Keynote 4.0.1. He imported picture in Keynote, added text frame on top of it and typed in some text. Then he went to another slide, but then returned back to resize text in the text frame. As soon he selects text, he gets spinning beach ball of death...
I asked him to repair permissions and restart his MacBook Pro 17", but still he has the same problem. He tried the same with different font in the text frame - the same. As soon as he tries to select text in the text frame, he gets spinning beach ball again.
Any ideas how to help him?...

OK, Carolyn, I wrote down all my prefs (glad I did), trashed the prefs file, restarted, relaunched TextEdit, reset all my preferences to my liking (which had reverted to default settings), quit TextEdit. Then I tried double-clicking some text files -- and the same problem (#2 above) persists. None of my TextEdit or text files have TextEdit as the default launch application -- they're still all either "None" or "ams1108.html". And, as before, if I try to change it to "TextEdit" in the file's info box, then click on "change all," it does not work: not only does it not change all the text files to be TextEdit, but clicking "change all" will cause the file in question to revert to "None" or "ams1108.html". However, if I only change the default app for that one file to TextEdit, and don't click "change all," then it will stick -- for now at least. (Though I wouldn't be surprised if after a restart they all changed back to "None.")
The short assessment is: trashing the prefs did NOT fix problem #2 above. It may or may not have fixed problem #1 -- hard to tell immediately, since the only way to find out is the use TextEdit for two days.
So, setting aside problem #1 for now: any suggestions for fixing problem #2 (default app can't be changed to TextEdit by clicking "change all")? I have thousands and thousands of TextEdit files I use, so changing them all manually one-by-one isn't feasible. Thanks.

  • Help with exporting Keynote to iMovie

Hello, I am working on a project in both Keynote and iMovie in which I am making some slides in Keynote, exporting them as Quicktime, and then importing them into iMovie. The slides primarily are composed of scanned pages from a book and thus have lots of small type. In Keynote, the text comes out very sharp and I can read it all perfectly. When I import the Quicktime movie into iMovie, however, the text looks very blurred and is almost unreadable. It looks like a JPEG which has been compressed way too much. However, I believe I have all of the compression settings set as high quality as possible. All of the other Keynote slides export and import just fine, only the text is giving me problems. Could someone please show me how I can export the Keynote slide so that the text shows up in iMovie just as clear as it looks in Keynote?
    Thank you very much,
    Daniel Baker

well, in that case you need to determine if this issue only happens with a perticular report or all of them, if it happens only with reports imported from 5.x or with newly created reports as well.
Looks like it is happening only when report is exported from Infoview, not in the Deski client. This might indicate a problem at the Web Apllication server (tomcat or one you use).
If this issue is happening with any report - it might be a bug. In that case you have no options as there are no more patches for XIR2.
On the other hand - if all you need is to extract data for consumption in another tool , why not use Data integrator instead ?
Also, if this desn't work in Deski - does it work if you convert your reports to webi and export from those ?

  • The latest .key I created is huge,  .... Finder shows it as 5GB.  Other .key of similar slide total are about 300-500MB.  There is nothing different about this one.  It is just .jpg files (photos) and text.  No movies, no audio.  Why so big??

    iMac.  2.4GHz.  Core 2 Duo.  2GB SDRAM.  OS - 10.9.5.   Keynote - 6.2.2 v.1878.
I just completed a keynote slide show.  The Finder indicates it is 5.25GB.  It is 200 slides, no movies, no audio of any kind, no special transitions.  It is just photos and some added text explanations.  The individual photos are each 5-6MB, with about 190 photos total.  I have other previous .key's about the size in terms of the number of photos and they are showing in the Finder as taking up 300-500MB.  There is nothing different with this one particular presentation.  I usually organize and store my photos using .key after a trip.  Photos are downloaded into iPhoto (7.1.5) and then I build a keynote presentation by copying the photos as .jpg's out of iPhoto and into Keynote, with text as notes on or under each photo.  Something changed with the latest keynote in terms of file size.  But I can't determined why it required 5.25GB of disc space while other .key's of the approximate same size and content are only taking 10% of that amount.  Anyone have an idea what is going on with keynote is this particular instance???  I know I could compress it, but I want to understand why the last time I used keynote the file size was so huge.    Thanks for the help.

Some additional information.  In looking at the package contents info, under the DATA Folder there are several entries for each slide/photo in the .key presentation.  There is a long list of contents that shows each image as:
        pasted-image-1234.png
and a second list right below that identifies each image again in the .key as:
        pasted-image-small-1234.png
Both of these lists show image files of 15-25MB for each photo, even though the original .jpg photo was 4-6MB.  They list/show all of the images in the .key, but DO NOT show the added text.  So it appears the package contents indicates two separate .png files for each photo in the .key, but the file size for each is 3-5 times greater than the original .jpg that was copy/pasted from iPhoto.  And for some reason there are two copies of each.
There is also a list for the two following image/data files:
        pasted-image-small-small-1234.png
        st12-1234.png
Both of these lists show a file size of 100-200KB for each image, and again show all of the images in the.key.
Only the st-xx-xxxx.png list of images also show the added text.
Again it appears when I created the Keynote presentation by copy/paste images from iPhoto, Keynote stored multiple copies of each image as .png file several times larger than the original .jpg.   The completed Keynote slide show is so large is almost impossible to work with.  The system is so slow that routine commands are not completed, e.g., trying to "save as" into a .pdf never finishes and I have to "force quit".
Still trying to determine why this occurred with the 6.2.2 version.  Any chance I can delete all but the st-xx-xxxx image list and get back to a normal file size??

  • A cleaning utility deleted my browsing history! My fault! I want to re-open the old pages and tabs. The info may be in an old "sessionstore.js" or "places.sqlite" file but these are huge and some URLS are written backwards. Where do I start please?

I have copied "places.sqlite" and given it a .txt extension, then opened in Wordpad - but it's huge - I don't know what order it's in and many of the URLS are written backwards - like "moc.smooretal.www" instead of "www.laterooms.com."
Similarly there are several numbered versions of sessionstore.js in the profile and these can be opened with a text editor too. But if I simply substitute the current sessionstore.js file with an older (numbered) one in the profile, Firefox seems to ignore it.
    So:
    1. Is there a method of re-installing the "history" sites list or "previously opened pages and tabs" from the 'places.sqlite' file, or from a previous sessionstore.js file (and if so how do I go about it ?)
    2. If not, is there an alternative source of browsing history back-up which I can use or
    3. If not that either, is there at least a way of reversing the backwards text so I can read the URLs and copy/paste them?
    All knowledgeable help much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Peter

Firefox has other backups it makes automatically, unfortunately your cleaning utility may have wiped them.
#First step backup manually whatever you have
#*''' edit''' <s>[[backing up and restoring backups]]</s><br/> [[backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
#Second step find and copy all of your profile folder and all the sub files and sub folders
    ## easiest method of finding it is <br> Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile [Open containing folder] <br/>The places.sqlite is a database that contains all your bookmarks and history, if this exists and is not corrupt then your bookmarks library should work and allow you to create backups.
    ##*see [[backing up your information]]
    ## put it somewhere safe your Windows desktop will do
.JSON files are the backup files, either created manually or by firefox
sessionstore.js files probably are of little use to you, containing only the tabs & windows from recent close downs, not the full history and bookarks.
Now that any existing files are safe try to see if any backups exist that firefox created automatically
    * these would be in a folder within the profile
    * they can most easily be used by opening the bookmarks library, as explained in the article linked above.

  • Transfering presentations from powerpoint to Keynote

    Hi
I have transfered a powerpoint presentation onto Keynote and have two problems.
    1. When i saved the presenation in Keynote the text does not appear on the presentaion as the texts that are on the presenation are not part of Apples fonts. The texts are Unviers LT Std, Baskerville MT Std and Baskerville MT Std semi bold. How can I import the fonts onto the ipad (which are saved on my works W drive)?? Or can I buy them?
    2. When I save the presenation in i-books as a PDF the images of the presenations do not come up!! Does anybody know why?
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
    Thanks
    Rose

These are the fonts that Keynote on the iPad supports:
iPad supports over 40 fonts and font families which can be used with iWork for iPad apps. When importing a presentation that uses a font not available on iPad, iWork attempts to replace an unsupported font with one that is a close match. If a close match is not found, the Helvetica font will be used instead. After the import process, fonts that were replaced are listed for review by the user.
Fonts available on the iPad include:
    American Typewriter
    AppleGothic
    Arial
    Baskerville
    Bodoni 72
    Bradley Hand
    Chalkduster
    Cochin
    Copperplate
    Courier
    Courier New
    Didot
    Futura
    Geeza Pro
    Georgia
    Gill Sans
    Heiti J
    Helvetica
    Hoefler Text
    Marker Felt
    Optima
    Palatino
    Papyrus
    Party LET
    Snell Roundhand
    Thonburi
    Times New Roman
    Trebuchet MS
    Verdana
    Zapf Dingbats
    Zapfino
Sorry to say you can't add fonts to the iPad. The Baskerville font that you are using may not be supported. Even tho it is in the supported list above.
For your second question. Are you making the keynote PDF on the iPad or on a computer? What file format are the images? I just made a two slide keynote with images on the iPad. I converted the keynote to a PDF and emailed to myself. When I open the email, I picked iBooks to open the PDF. All image were there in iBooks.

  • Missing text in figures

I am having a problem with figures in pdf format that I place onto keynote slides. Sometimes when I open the presentation, text from the pdf figures is missing. After restarting keynote, the text comes back, but sometimes it takes several restarts for all of the text in the pdf figure to display properly. Why would the text disappear when it is in the pdf file? Any suggestions?

Such problems are usually caused by websites not recognizing your Ubuntu branded user agent and the solution is to remove extras added by Ubuntu via a general.useragent.override pref.

  • How can I modify bullets or create my own in Keynote

I looked everywhere, but can't find any any instruction on how to choose different bullets in a keynote body text slide.
I hope somebody has found out how to do this.
    Thanks, Dieter

Click on the text, then go to the Text Inspector, in the Bullets tab. Use the dropdown menu in the Bullets and Numbering section to choose the general kind of bullet you want, then refine your choices from there.

  • Speed up adding URL hyperlinks to bullets/selected text

Hi, I'm doing a presentation that requires linking a huge amount of the bullet text to different sites. I was hoping to create some sort of macro that told Keynote to add the URL of the current active window in Safari to the selected text, but Automator can't do it and I don't know of any other way to create a macro (I'm new to the Mac world).
At the moment, after go to the site I want to link to, switch to Keynote, highlight the desired text and open the Hyperlink inspector window:
    1) Hyperlink inspector window defaults to Slide (vs. Webpage)
    2) After I click Enable Hyperlink and choose Webpage from the pulldown menu, the URL defaults to my home page URL.
This means I have to go to Safari, highlight and copy the URL, switch back to Keynote, highlight the homepage URL, paste the correct URL (from the active Safari window), click Apple-end to get to the end of the URL and hit Enter in order to hyperlink the selected text.
I know there has to be an easier way.
At one point, I accidentally did something that dynamically changed the URL in Hyperlink inspector to the active URL on Safari, but I can't re-create it. That, at least, would be some help.
Any suggestions for how to simplify/speed up/automate this cumbersome process would be GREATLY APPRECIATED, as I am slogging along using this inefficient approach while trying to meet a looming deadline.
    Thanks in advance!

Maggie, how desperate are you for a quick solution? One approach might be to edit the Keynote XML text file directly, adding the bullets and hyperlinks as elements in that file rather than through Keynote proper. This approach is relatively straightforward, and it is very fast, but it does involve getting down-and-dirty with the XML, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. It's honestly not that daunting, though, and just involved doing very minor editing to a text file within TextEdit. I don't know if it would work well for your specific needs, and it involves a completely different workflow than working in Keynote directly, but it might be worth a shot. Here's how you would add a list of hyperlinked bullets to a single slide:
    - First, create a single slide with a bulleted list with a single item that has a hyperlink to a website. This will allow you to see what the XML looks like when we open the XML file. Use an unusual word or string of letters for the bullet item to make it easier to find in the XML code. Save this one slide presentation, and close it.
    - In the Finder, hold down the Control key while clicking once on the presentation file. This will bring up the contextual menu. Choose "Show Package Contents". This will open a new Finder window that shows you the "guts" of the Keynote presentation, which is actually a collection of files.
    - Double click on the "index.apxl.gz" file. This is the file that holds the XML markup for the presentation. It is stored in compressed form, but when you double-click it, a new file, "index.apxl", will be created. This is a plain text file, editable with TextEdit, and it is the file you will modify. Delete the "index.apxl.gz" file, as it isn't needed now, and Keynote will automagically re-compress the "index.apxl" file when we open the presentation.
    - Open the "index.apxl" file in TextEdit (or whatever other text editor you like). You will see a mess of XML, without any real formatting. That's OK though, because you only need to edit a small bit of this file, and you will use the unusual word in the bullets you created as a search guide.
    - Find the unusual word in the text. This word is embedded in the XML code that specifies the bullet on the slide. This is the code that you will need to edit.
The code that specifies a hyperlinked bullet will look something like this:
    <sf:p sf:style="SFWPParagraphStyle-263" sf:list-level="1"><sf:link href="http://www.apple.com/"><sf:span sf:style="SFWPCharacterStyle-38">Test1</sf:span></sf:link><sf:br/></sf:p>
(The numbers of the "ParagraphStyle" and "CharacterStyle" may be different depending on the theme you used.)
If you look at this snippet, you can see that there is a URL in the <sf:link> tag -- that's the hyperlink for the bullet text. You can also see that there is some text (in this case, "Test1") wedged between the <sf:span> and </sf:span> tags -- that's the text that appears on the slide, and in your file it will be the unusual text that you searched for in the file.
Now, the cool thing is that, if you change this URL and this bullet text in the XML file and save it (having previously deleted the "index.apxl.gz" file), you will have changed the bullet text and hyperlink in the actual presentation. The much cooler thing is that you can add bullets to a slide by simply pasting multiple copies of the above code template into the XML file -- just make sure that you copy the entire bullet template (from <sf:p to </sf:p>), and that you paste it directly after another </sf:p> tag. (Be sure to use the template from your XML file, since the ParagraphStyle and CharacterStyle numbers will be different.)
What this means is that the task that formerly involved going back and forth in the Keynote interface now just involves editing a text file. In the case of your task, for example, what you could do is create a second TextEdit window, paste the bullet code template into it several times, and then just drag and drop the URLs you want into the various address spots of the templates. You can also edit the bullet text directly in the templates. Once you're done, you can simply copy the whole batch of text and paste it into the appropriate spot in the "index.apxl" XML file, and you're done.
Also, because this is now a text editing task rather than a Keynote task, you can potentially take advantage of applications that automate text editing to generate the bullet XML for you. For example, you could just create a list of the URLs, and then use the macro capabilities of Word, or (my favourite) NisusWriter, to go through the list and populate the addresses in the bullet templates. The possibilities are quite wide open with this approach.
This is just how to do one slide, but multiple slides are just as straightforward -- simply start by creating a presention where each slide has one bullet point, with unique text in each bullet. Then you can easily find the section of XML code for the bullet of each slide, and edit accordingly.
This may seem like a hugely involved and roundabout way of doing this task, but it works, and by making it a text editing task, it can make it far easier.

  • Square Bullet in Keynote

How can I get a SQUARE BULLET to appear in the drop-down list of Text Bullets in Keynote's Text Inspector?
(I have read earlier threads on creating an image or selecting text from Special Characters ... that's not what I am looking for here.)
I have an existing piece of text in my Keynote presentation that has this text Square Bullet.  Like this:
This Square Bullet  behaves in all ways like a standard text bullet (i.e., I can size it, color it, set its indent, etc.)  However, I cannot find a way to add this shape of bullet to other text blocks.  I have saved this piece of text and copy/edit it when I need a square bullet but I'd rather see the square bullet as a choice in the drop-down.  Is there some way to get it to appear there?
    Thanks!
    (Keynote 5.3 on OS 10.8.5)

Short answer: You can't. Selecting images for bullets only works on the Mac.
However, if you have both Keynote '09 for OSX and Keynote for iOS, you can create a dummy Keynote presentation on the Mac and add any modified bullets you need to it and then copy the Keynote dummy to your iPad using iTunes or Dropbox and then use this file on your iPad as a sort of scrap yard for bullet parts - you can open it on the iPad, COPY a slide that has the bullets that you like, close that file, open the file you want the bullets to appear and PASTE the slide. The bullets with the graphic elements you want will now behave as bullets on your iPad. Or...
If you only want the bullets, not the background slide, select the text box containing the bullets and COPY, then PASTE the Text Box where you want it on your own slide.
You may have to fiddle with fonts.
    Messy, but works.
    Good Luck.
