Keynote Conversion to Quicktime - Resolution Loss

When I convert (Export) a Keynote Presentation to Quicktime, the Resolution suffers slightly. The Colors are just not as vibrant after conversion. Then when I Upload to YouTube the Resolution suffers further...
In the Quicktime Settings, I chose:
Full Quality, Large
Video Size: 1024 x 768
Compression: H.264
Data Range: Automatic
Encoding: Best Quality (multi-pass)
Does anyone have any recommendations?

This may be a silly question, but have you tried skipping to the next chapter? That worked for me…

I have a .mov file that is 59 gigs.  Is there a converter that can reduce the file size with minor resolution loss so I can import it into final cut express?

Open the file in QuickTime Player. Then do Tools > Show Movie Inspector.  What does it say for Format and FPS?
At 59GB, I suspect you have either a 4 hour DV video or a 1+ hour video that was converted to Apple Intermediate Codec.   If it's either of those, you can import it directly into FCE provided you select the appropriate Easy Setup first.  Your clips have to match the properties of the Easy Setup you are using.
If it's neither DV or AIC then you need to convert it to one of those codecs.  (QuickTime/DV or QuickTime/AIC)  Many people in this forum rely on MPEG Streamclip (it's free and works great).

  • Can't export from keynote 09 to quicktime

When I try to export from keynote 09 to quicktime 10 I get an error code there is not enough disk space or error 34.  I have taken off some graphic intensive files and have 30 GB of space left, but that does not seem to help.  Waht can I do?

Until you receive a specific answer from an expert, I would suggest finding somewhere to put unnecessary (or less important) larger files.
Macs need 10% free space to work correctly and 15% is much safer. Any less and you could run into all sorts of unpredictable problems. I think you will find that some of the free space is being used to process your exporting request, so that is multiplying the problem.

  • How can you save keynote slides as high resolution (300 dpi) images?

Apparently there is a way to save powerpoint slides as 300 dpi images, with some finagling, but not the mac version.  Does anyone know how to do this in keynote?  Or is there a relativley easy way to do it with free/cheap software?  I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.

how can you save keynote slides as high resolution (300 dpi)
to save individual images from each slide in Keynote;     file > export > images > TIFF (for optimum quality)
You are using the wrong terminology to describe creating an image file
    - dpi ( meaning dots per inch )  is the measurement used in printing to create the number of print dots per inch that will be deposited on to physical media like paper or film   This is done in the printer settings box of the print driver and is dependant on how the individual printer can print..
    ppi ( meaning pixels per inch ) is the measurement you need to use when creating the number of pixels in a digital image file. You establish image resolution in Keynote using the inspector;
Keynote > inspector > document > slide size
I can increase the dpi in photoshop, but it doesn't produce crisp images for obvious reasons.
You can resample images in editing applications such as Photoshop or Painter but what you are doing is adding non image information to the image to increase pixel count, this is called noise. As you state this is not the procedure to use in your situation.

  • Best Settings for DVD conversion to Quicktime

I am using a DVD source material for the first time in an edit job. I am using MPEG Streamclip to upload the DVD disk (private material not copywrited) for conversion to Quicktime (.mov) for further transfer to Final Cut Pro 6 for editing, and final output back to DVD (using my FCP Suite programs.) I need the absolute best quality transfer regardless of file size to preserve the original video.
I am using the following settings in Streamclip and I would greatly appreciate opinions if these are the best recommended settings to use for my needs. Thank you very much for all input.
Compression: Apple FCP Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2
    Quality: 100%
    Sound: Uncompressed
    Frame Size: 640 x 480 (4:3)
Interlaced Scaling and Reinterlace Chroma "checked"
    Thank you again!

I don't have FCP so I have converted to .dv for iMovie.
But if you want to preserve the original quality you should edit the DVD's MPEG with MPEG Streamclip and re-author that as a video-DVD. Yes, you can then do only straight cuts to the GOP (i.e. max 0.6 second precision):

  • How can I export a Keynote presentation to Quicktime while maintaining my set transitions?

I try to export a Keynote presentation to Quicktime. This works, obviously, although it doesn't maintain the carefully timed transitions I set up. Instead, it just the default transition time for every slide, instead of the custom transitions I entered.
The default transition time now is 5 seconds. I tried removing the 5 but it just returns and entering 0 seconds does exactly that; 0 seconds.
Does anybody have an idea as to what I should do to fix this dastardly problem?

This is a well known problem with Keynote 6.1, the only thing you can do is use Keynote 5.3 instead, if you have it.
Meanwhile sit back and wait to see if Apple issues a fix in the schedule of updates they said they would issue during 2014.

  • Exporting Keynote to Quicktime - complete loss of sound

    Hey,
I’m facing problems when it comes to exporting Keynote to Quicktime.
For a tutorial, I recorded a Quicktime movie of my screen (including my voice as audio). This Quicktime movie is placed on a slide and runs during the whole presentation. I use animations for showing text blocks that give additional info while the movie is running.
In Keynote everything works just fine. But when I export it to Quicktime, *the sound stops as soon as the first animation is started with a click*. From then on I can see both the embedded Quicktime movie and the animations but without audio.
Sometimes it even happened that after doing the first click I could see the animations only, but no Quicktime video / sound.
I’ve spent the last nights with trying changing export settings and so on, searched this forum up and down, but couldn’t find a solution…
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Mike

I just posted this on another similar inquiry. THis may help. I posed a similar question so check the thread "Bottom line...etc." If you follow the guidelines below it should work. The final result is one QT movie with all slides and music. The product was so much nicer than the iPhoto slide shows (although they are OK too. (I don't know about the video in the Keynote might work as described in the initial post here.)
Here is what the final answer was, at least for my situation:
"YESSSS!!! Even after meeting with 4 Geniuses and 1 Creative the answer was still a definite bottom line, "Maybe." Until, I finally realized that the one setting that I was not using correctly was in the Export> QT> Playback. I had been using "Manual" and not using the "Fixed Timing" out of fear that it would change the custom settings that I had on each slide. However, that is not the case. The settings on each slide remain the same even though in this option there are settings for slide duration and build duration. I do not know what those options do but the bottom line is I now can Export to QT and then import to iDVD with both sound and video as one file and they work fine both as an isolated QT file as well as a QT/Slideshow in iDVD. Thanks for the help from all the contributors both recently and quite awhile ago when I first faced this challenge.
    Peace,
    Jim

  • Slow Conversion to QuickTime

Has anyone else experienced a dramatic slowing in Keynote '09 when exporting a recorded presentation to QuickTime? This is a file with no fancy transitions or embedded media, but what took Keynote '08 30 to 60 seconds is now taking 20+ minutes, even when not exported as a full size file.
If I'm not just doing something dumb here (always a possibility, let me say), this really *****. It seems like lately, Apple has been following the Rocky or Microsoft model where the sequels are less functional and more poorly performing than the earlier versions. Way to go, guys...

I restarted the conversion, only this time I am seeking to convert the MEPG-4 over to "Apple DV/DVC PRO- NTSC format"
An instructor here at the school gave that as a suggestion...
Now, at the current rate of THIS conversion, it will STILL TAKE about 40 hours of continuous processing to convert this film. THe computer will need to run 24 hours a day for almost 2 days to convert this.
The instructor told me he thinks the ludicrous time frames needed have something to do with the fact that I am converting this film from MPEG-4. He thinks that this could be what is causing it to be this slow.
I am just not used to this type of thing....I have never used a computer to do ANYTHING that takes 40 to 80 hours to complete.
I think that director Ridley Scott likely filmed the actual movie itself much faster than this conversion is taking (!!!)

  • Keynote to imovie/poor resolution

When I export my keynote slide show to QuickTime then import it to imovie the resolution is very poor, which is really obvious in the titles. Is there anyway to correct this?

iMovie is for TV delivery.. judge the final pic quality only from tape or dvd,...
iM has just a lowered preview quality... and: a TV/NTSC/low res/interlace is NO computer screen ..

  • How do I share a Keynote project as Quicktime with narration on each slide?

I have a Keynote presentation with narration embedded in each slide. It plays fine as a self-timed show. I tied everything together by "recording" the presentation (with no extra sound). This second version of the show plays fine within Keynote, starting always at the first slide. When I try to share this second show as a Quicktime, the sound is hit-or-miss: part of the narration on some slides, all of it on others, none at all on others. The total length of the QT movie matches the playing time of the Keynote presentation, but the sound is whacko. My workaround was to do a screen capture with iShowU, but I would like to know the solution to the problem within the Keynote program. I would appreciate hearing any ideas anyone may have. Thanks.

    Oh !
    thats a shame
is there no public or semi public area to save a file to that can be shared

  • Movie within Keynote, export to quicktime transition delay

I have a very strange problem I can't seem to figure out. I create a Keynote presentation every week that is used to show our announcements at our church. I create the keynote with automatic advancement, then export it to a quicktime movie (which is then put on an iPod and used to project at church). It wall works very well and I have used this for several years. Here's my problem:
I inserted a movie into a slide in Keynote, the movie is about 30 seconds long and I am playing about 10 to 15 seconds of it. I then have the slide transition to another slide. When I play the keynote it all seems to work great - however, when I export the movie via quicktime, it plays through the movie then hangs for 10 seconds or so at the end of the movie before making the transition to the next slide. It is apparently "stuck" for that time. I have played around with every setting I could find to see if I could get it to work right but nothing changed this behavior. I tried shortening the movie length under the quicktime tab in the inspector, changing the delay in the slide tab in the inspector, nothing.
To make matters worse I apparently can't just cut out the 10 seconds of offending material via quicktime pro as it somehow only registers by the slide number and I cannot get the index arrow to pick a portion of the movie to splice.
Its all very frustrating - I've spent about 3 hours on this silly thing this evening telling myself "it can't be this hard." But either I am really missing the obvious, or there is a bug in Keynote, or this just can't be done.
BTW I am using Keynote 09.
Any help would be very appreciated. For tonight I've given up on the movie and just cut that part out.
    thanks.

You've found one of my frustrations...here's the way it works:
In keynote, you MUST set the slide delay for a movie to stay on screen, and you can see that you're able to transition before the movie is done by cutting the delay shorter than the movie. The draw back is, if you want the whole movie to play, you MUST set the delay to at least the same length as the movie.
When exporting to QT, this doesn't work. The export forces the movie to play in its entirety. If you weren't trying to cut the movie short, you'd still have to remove your auto advance delay so that it transitions after the movie plays. This is why you're seeing that long hold, it's counting your movie length AND the delay time you added in Keynote.
The only thing I can suggest is removing that transition delay and living with the movie playing through to the end. You could always trim the movie in QT Pro and use that in Keynote I suppose.

  • KEYNOTE - Export to quicktime with slides turned off

I have just done a full set of speaker walkup slide intros and then tried to output to quicktime with certain slides turned off and the ones I wanted to export turned on. Each time I would export the QT movie (for individual speakers turned on and the other turned off) and Keynote would record the first three slides rather than the three further in the deck that I have turned on. Has anybody had the same problem? Maddening!!!

Apple promised a 6 month update scheme, that takes us to May 2014 to sort this out, in the meantime I'm using Keynote 09 for all the stuff, 6 cant do.

  • File Conversions in Quicktime Pro

can quicktime pro convert flv files to movie files that i can play on my ipod? ex. i want to take youtube videos and convert the files so they can play on my ipod, if quicktime cant do it is there something that can?
    thank you

And to dbsneddon. The quality of sync in FLV is truly horrible. MPEG Streamclip will make equally out of sync FLV to QT movies as QT will, even Elgato Turbo.264 (which uses a hardware encoder to H264) will lose sync. If it MUST be in sync you may need to strip the audio out and then place it back in sync using QT Pro (and hope the opverall timing is OK and it is just out of sync from the beginning).
I do not think that sync was a huge part of the spec when whoever built it got to work. You may notice that the FLV original loses sync but teh conversion really makes it a lot worse.

  • Best Quicktime resolution and codec for downloading a 1hr, 15 minute video

    Hello All;
I have to create a video that can be downloaded and played via. the web. Looking at most downloadable content, I see Quicktime is used most often.
My original fcp project is 1920 X 1080, 1 hr, and 15 minutes long.
Would would you say is the best resolution and codec to use for the highest quality at the lowest total file size ? What do you use that offers you the results you like ?
I've heard that MPEG 4 is used for web delivery and I've tried this at 720 X 480 but some of the images in the video like a american flag show a strange shimmering effect. I'm not sure what causes that as most of the video looks fine, only a few objects in the scene at various times.
I have also heard H.264 is good for web delivery and am trying that now but it will take 15 more hours to finish the export. Not sure if I'll see the strange shimmering effect as I did with MPEG 4. Hope not but if I do, is there anything I can do to eliminate this ?
    Thank you very much.
    Tim

An hour and 15 minute video is going to be huge. The smallest file size that's going to be adequate quality is probably in 800MB or better range. That's a big download for most punters.

  • Quicktime functionality loss after upgrading to OS X 10.6

After upgrading to Snow Leopard I noticed a functionality loss with QuickTime that I have not been correct.
I run a Macbook Pro and have an external monitor attached. Previously when I did the key combo Command+F to go to full screen video Quicktime would place the video I'm viewing on my larger external monitor for playback. It would also dim the Macbook screen during that playback.
I have noticed that DVD Player does this as well and actually has a setting in the preferences. I am not able to find any such setting with QuickTime even though it had the functionality previously.
Does anyone know the key combinations or hidden preference changes in QuickTime to have this functionality return?

Use the Quicktime 7 program that you will find in your Utilities folder. You can't do this with Quicktime X. If Quicktime 7 isn't in the Utilities folder, you will find the installation package for Quicktime 7 in a folder on you OS installation disc.
