Keynote crash with duplicate slides

Keynote crashes if I duplicate a slide and then try to save the file: save window comes up, file starts to save, then app crashes with save unfinished. Anyone know of any fixes?

Try deleting the preferences for Keynote in your Library. Quit out of Keynote. Go to your user home (i.e., click your user name in the Finder sidebar), then go to Library, then Preferences. Delete the file "com.apple.Keynote.plist". Restart Keynote and see if that solves the problem.
If not, the next step is to re-install Keynote. Delete it from within Applications, in the iWork (or iWork '06) folder. Re-install the software, and see if that solves it. If not, post here, and we'll see what other options are available.

I posted this on another thread. See if this works:
1) Uncheck "Backup previous version" in Keynote's Preferences.
2) Make a duplicate copy of your file that has issues and save it.
3) If you still get spinning wheels from switching between apps after editing or 10 seconds of inactivity, manually save with command+s. It may beach ball here but be patient and wait for it to finish! Try editing and resume doing work now.
Command+s may be a bit slow but I think that might be normal since the files are so big.

Keynote crashes with charts

I have this issue where Keynote will always crash in full screen play mode when transitioning to a slide with charts. This happens with or without the transition effects. The Keynote version is 5.0.1. Anyone have any ideas how to remedy this?

Keynote crashes with FLV files

Recently Keynote has begun crashing when I try to insert FLV files. I've been able to insert them in the past without any problem. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussions, scottcbs.
Keynote doesn't natively support flv files. What's likely is that you have some plugin for QuickTime that allows it to handle those and it requires an update. Do you have Perian installed?
As a rule of thumb, I convert any video I plan to use in a presentation to a QuickTime compatible format. While there are tricks you can do to get .flv, .avi, .wmv to play, there's always the potential for incompatibilities to creep in when there are minor OS updates.

Keynote crashes with custom images bullets

Anyone had problems with custom image bullets? I am using a custom image bullet – a simple bracket set that's not supported by Keynote because it's a glyph – so I saved the image file as a png file and placed it as a custom bulllet. Now if I add a new text box (sans bullet) it automatically adds the bullet and I can't remove it. Also, if I try to copy and paste a text box it force quits Keynote even though a bullet isn't used. It seems like obviously the problem is the bullet so I've tried deleting it from all master pages and existing pages and it hasn't helped.
I'm still using the old version of Keynote but would this be resolved in the new Keynote? I haven't read much positive about the new Keynote so I'm apprehensive.

Create a PDF with 6 slides per page from a ppt ALL on the iPad

Is there any way to create a PDF file with six slides per page from a PowerPoint presentation using only an iPad (and apps)?
I know how to do this on a Mac (i.e. Print > 6 per page> save as PDF) but is there a way I can do this all on the iPad?
Basically i want a way to output a ppt or keynote document with 6 slides per page using only the iPad. I have both Keynote and PowerPoint for iOS on my iPad.
any help would be much appreciated!!
p.s. I'm using an iPad 2 running iOS 7.1.2 ( but will be updating to iOS 8 in the next few days when it comes out). Jailbreaking is not an option!!

HT5067 When using a Keynote Widget with iBooks Author, do the transitions and builds between Keynote slides appear in the iPad preview version of the iBook, or only in the finished product?

I'm using the Keynote Widget in iBooks Author, and the Keynote presentation uses the Magic move transition between slides. When I preview the iBook on a new iPad, the Magic move transitions don't show up (i.e. the transition from slide to slide is standard, not Magic move). Any suggestions?

Hyperlinks and magic move should work but don't. However I found the following as a workaround for me. Use three slides instead of two to generate the magic move effect in Keynote presentations on Ibooks using hyperlinks only. As an example
Supose an object on slide 1 was set as a hyperlink to go to a slide which then had a magic move effect to a third slide. For some reason it works on the mac, but not on ibooks. However you can create the magic move transition effect by simply adding a "dummy slide" as follows. Suppose an object on slide 1 had an object which would hyperlink to slide 4. Duplicate Slide 4, and make the duplicate slide 5. Then set Slide 4 to automatically transition (with no effect) to the next slide (i.e. slide 5) after .5 seconds. Have Slide 5 set to transition to Slide 6 using magic move automatically after .5 seconds. By having the hyperlink point to slide 4 the magic move effect from Slide 5 to Slide 6 works fine (with a brief 1 sec delay). IF the hyperlink pointed directly to Slide 5, the magic move transition to slide 6 would not work.
For some reason having an extra slide makes magic move work even though it is not needed on the mac. I hpe this helps.

Keynote crashes when editing a slide

Keynote crashes every time I for example draw a square and touch it. I then have to start the program again to access ny presentation.

I just had the same problem on the iPad 2 & iOS 8.
I fixed it by making a new presentation in keynote for ipad, then going back and copying all of the slides from the old presentation and pasting them into the new one. Have been working with it for about an hour now without issue.
I'm curious, did you happen to upload a presentation that you made on your Mac to your iCloud disk instead of directly into the keynote (beta) app in iCloud? I ask because I haven't had this problem before, and today I used the disk rather than uploading directly to keynote like I usually do.

Keynote export to Quicktime with automaic slide settings doesnt work.

I made a Keynote presentation with automatic settings.
All the animation and slides are going automatically from the beginning to the end, I dont have to click.
But when I want to export it to Quicktme movie, it looses all the automatic settings and doesnt fit the background music .
Would be good to export the movie with the original settings, because it fits/syncronized to the music only with this settings.
How can I keep all the slide/animation settings during the export to QT movie?

But I think its not an issue, and I found the solution!
You have to make a Slideshow Record first, with your automated settings/transitions, from the begining to the end: Menu-Play-Slideshow Record
After when you are ready, go to Export-QT Movie, and CHOOSE the SLIDESHOW RECORD, NOT the Self Playing option with the preset timings in the export dialogue box.
With this you can create a QT movie with your automatic settings/sliding/transitions.
For me its working.

Can you explain this better, there appears to be a strange work flow going on, have you imported PowerPoint into Keynote or you are trying to export to PowerPoint?
There are many users who have trouble with a recorded voice over going to Quicktime.
Try this repair, its sorted out many similar problems in the past.
Complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1 delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote by using Appcleaner from Mac Update to           do this, its freeware
2 restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3 immediately after the start chime, press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
         let it fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4 when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and           click repair disc permissions
5 when complete, restart the Mac normally
6 install Keynote from the Mac App Store

When using the record function for narration in Keynote 09 version 5.1.1., the recording continually gets off sync with the slides even if nothing has been altered on any of the slides.

I am trying to record narration for my slideshow in Keynote 09 version 5.1.1. I put the transitions on automatic and hit the record button, then read the slides as they advanced. The program allows me to record my voice, however, when I play the slideshow back the recording continually becomes more off sync with the slides with each play. Is there a way to fix this?

One of my ex-colleagues has installed a NI-DAQ 6.5 in our system. [And I do not see any other naitional instruments card in the CPU of the computer, may be he removed it] I deleted the account and all his files in the system. When I am trying to install version8.0, its not getting installed and giving me a message that I should uninstall the previous version by going to Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
I tried doing that, but the "Change/Remove" button does not seem to work...[There is no response and so unable to install the new version...]
Any idea how can this problem be solved?
It is a windowsXP operating system with SP2 installed on a machine with P4 processor.

I have been trying to use keynote to show a slide show on a monitor in another part of the building but it is crashing with the same error, usually after more than 24 hours running. I have been sending the reports to Apple, but after 4 in as many days, I am wondering if there is something I can do to trouble shoot.
I have keynote is looping a presentation to an refurbished AppleTV via a refurbished Airport Express (June 2012). The Airport Express is creating a network, 2.4/GHz, and it is not connected to the internet or our local network
Since I don't want to dump console reports into the post, I look at the console and it seems the same after the first 3 thread, at least to the untrained eye, so I deleted 4-9 in the interest of space. I only included the first part of the bianary images to save space. Please let me know if there is more information I need to include.
Any suggestions are welcome and thanks for your time.

Keynote crashes and reboots the laptop! How do you stop this??

I am using Keynote 3.0.2 on a MacBook 2Ghz Intel Core Duo with 1GB RAM. I have a 200 slide presentation with some embedded video (about 200MB file). From time to time when I hit "Play" to start the presentation, Keynote crashes and the macBook reboots itself! What is the fix to this bug?

The thing is that Keynote isn't crashing all the time, it just happens once in a while. And that's what it makes so ennoying.

I have a presentation with 100 slides. During the first 10 slides I want one song to start playing from slide

I have a presentation with +100 slides. During the first 10 slides I want one song to start from the beginning, at the 11th slide a new song starts from the beginning, and so on during the entire presentation. How do I do? Thanks in advance. janfromfinland

This is a very common request which unfortunately has not been satisfactorily answered albeit for very complicated workarounds using multiple duplicates of your keynote file and hyperlinking them.
The easiest alternative is to have iTunes play in the background timed to begin when you manually start the keynote. You can create a playlist so the tracks run into each other, or better yet combine them into one track using a free editor like GarageBand. You'll need to rehearse your timings. Hopefully, youre not trying to match lyrics with words or animations as this is not the most exact way to do so.
The alternative is to create a separate keynote file of those 10 slides and export them to QuickTime, reimport the movie into keynote and add the music track to the file. That will give more accurate timing. The most accurate timing would be tom import the QuickTime movie into iMovie and add the soundtrack with exact timings. Ive done this successfully except for the fact that exporting this way fools around with any build timings.
S the final alternative is to do your first 10 slides with music from iTunes and advance the slides manually using screenflow or the latest QuickTime in lion to record the screen Inc music.
All troublesome but doable workarounds until Apple comes to our aid.
