Keynote crashing - unlocking trial vs. installing from dvd

Keynote 08 crashes regularly. I have a theory that the iWork trial installations that are unlocked crash more often than the ones installed from the CD. Anyone got the same gut feeling?
/trondk

So here is a short update: I deleted two quicktime movies from my presentation, and changed one font type. After that it only crashed a few times a day. After a reboot it has been running faithfully 24/7 for over three days without a crash. I am still using an unlocked trial version, no upgrades of keynote, quicktime or os x have been performed. Wierd! So today I added some Quartz Composer elements (Snowfall) in hope it will stay up over the weekend.

  • Install from software failed AND install from DVD failed....

I downloaded Mountain Lion from the App Store and burned a bootable disc, or so I thought, before installing. Upon installing (from the hard drive version), the hard disk failed and ML wouldn't install, nor would the drive even mount any more. (Luckily, I ran time machine so my dada isn't lost.) So today I bought a new HD and spent 4 hours zeroing it.
I put in the bootable DVD and, after 10 minutes, it finally tried to install. Then it said "There was an error installing the system. Please try reinstalling the operating system." (Dear Apple, that is not the mot helpful error message.)
So, I tried to use the utilities on the DVD to restore from my Time Machine backup, but the tools never loaded!!
I finally got the old drive to mount, so I started CCC but now the drive unmounts itself about 3GB into an attempted clone.
I don't have a Lion DVD because I can't find the one that came with my MacBook.
    NOW WHAT?! :-(
My Mountain Lion App Store purchase is verified right? Can I attempt to download the ML installer on my 10.6 machine and possibly re-burn a disc? (Does it matter if it's +R DL or -R DL?)

You mean updating from the downloader? I tried that first, it's what crashed the drive to begin with.

  • Lightroom 6 won't install from DVD

I bought Lightroom 6 and burned the files to a DVD, same as I have done for 3,4, and 5, but it refuses to install from the DVD. Keeps asking for the Lightroom 6 DVD. However if I copy the DVD to a folder on my desktop and then start the install everything works fine. I worked with Adobe support but we were unable to get it to install directly from the DVD.
Anyone else have this problem? Windows 7 Pro X64.
    Thanks,
    Lee

It's resolved now, I have tried it again (now the 7th time) and for some reason it decided to work!

  • How to install from DVD onto machine without DVD drive

My boss has a laptop without a DVD drive, and wants to install Tiger. Tiger comes on a DVD. What is the best way to complete this install?
If I put the DVD in my laptop, then mount it as an external drive will that give us access to the DVD within it?

You can copy Tiger to CD's (if you already have the Tiger DVD's) and do the install from CD's. Or if your boss has a firewire port on his laptop you can plug in a firewire DVD drive and run the installation from there. You will need to hold down the option key to select which drive to start off of.
If you haven't already purchased Tiger you could buy the CD version on eBay.

  • IWorks will not install from DVD.

I am trying to install iWorks from DVD (my second copy from Amazon as the first did exactly the same thing). The DVD drive does not seem to read/recognise the DVD and ejects it after about 1 minute. DVD drive does not have any problems reading any other CDs/DVDs.
Is there a setting I need to adjust in System Preferences or a software download ? Or is there a batch of 'duff' iWork disks out there ?
    Any assistance gratefully received.

It sounds like a problem with your RAM.

  • Clean install from DVD failing again and again.

    I tried clean installing Lion:
I partitioned my hard disk and burned a DVD with the installer.
When booting from that DVD, it just tells me that setup failed and I should try installing again.
At that point, the only option is to reboot from DVD again, ending up with the same error, or using the tools delivered on the tool except for installing.
I tried installing while being booted on the DVD via Terminal by starting /Install Mac OS X Lion.app. This fails after rebooting again as well.

question , where did you get DVD from ??? i burn it my self via tutorial

  • Activate trial or install from cd

I have been using the trial of XI Pro and have decided to purchase it. However, I am going to purchase it locally because I like having hard copies of software. Is there any advantages or disadvantages one way or the other between simply putting the new serial number into the trial versus uninstalling the trial and installing it from scratch from the cd?

    Hi Rhinnu2012,
The downloaded trial version is the same that you get on the CD.
You need to simply enter the purchased serial number in the trial version to convert it into full version.
Uninstall of trial version is NOT required.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 for Mac not installing from DVD

DVD or downloaded "trial" version of PSE 11 will not install on Mac running OS Lion (10.7.5).  Reparied Disk Permissions and still doesn't instal.
When DVD gets installed, folders appear, click on Photoshop Elements, double click install.app, install runs then back to Finder screen.  Only installs a folder called "Adobe" under User > Applications.  Nothing inside folder to indicated software is installed.  Nothing gets installed in the generall Applications folder.  HELP!

I figured the PSE 10 serial # would not work.  I'd be happy with just getting 10 to work.  This laptop was just put into use and I did a transfer from my old laptop so there may be files on this new one that I need to delete.  I've tried using an Adobe Uninstaller and it finds nothing to uninstall.  I did notice Photoshop Elelements Organizer is on here and working but not the Editor which is really what I use and need.
Is there something I can download from Adobe to "clean" any files interferring with my new install?  Do I need to uninstall the Organizer as well?
BTW, thanks for helping me.  I really appreciate it!

  • PS CS5 Upgrade Will No Longer Install from DVD

Due to a system issue, I had to uninstall everything, including PS.
In trying to reinstall PS CS5 (Upgrade version) from the DVD, not all of the components are installing correctly.  Both the DVD and drive have been prioperly cleaned.
Any suggestions as to what to do?  i.e. does Adobe provide the ability to download this version, or.....????  Suggestions.

Yes, you should be able to just download the trial and then use your registration-code.

  • How do I get MS Office 2011 to install from DVD on Mountain Lion?

I just did a clean install of OS X Mountain Lion from a prepared bootable SD-Card on a new partition of my harddrive and wanted to install Microsoft Office 2011 using the original disc. But after double clicking the installer icon nothing happened besides the rainbow colored spinner showing up and disappearing shortly after and my optical drive making some noise. Activity Monitor indicated that the process of the Installer application doesn't react so I had to force quit it. I tried it multiple times to install MS Office this way using the disc but the problem persisted, also after a reboot.
So far my system is still in a pretty fresh state since I installed hardly any separate apps yet and the most intrusive one of them is probably merely Sophos. OS X's Installer app worked the way it should when I was installing iLife the day before using the Applications Install DVD that came with my Mac.
When I installed Office 2011 the first time, presumably one year ago on another partition on the same Mac which was running OS 10.6, everything worked fine and the same is true for the time when I upgraded to OS 10.7 (although I didn't install Office again, I just kept everything on the same partition).
So is there anyone out there who experienced similiar problems and can please help solve this problem?

Well, that depends on what you mean when you say "verified". But as I wrote in the first post I was able to install iLife from disc on Mountain Lion without much ado. And just now I tested a DVD with some pictures on it and the disc drive would read and display all photos in Preview.
And given the facts that I rarely use my optical drive at all and that my machine is only little more than a year old, a drive failure seems quite unlikely. But thanks for your response anyway!

  • Installing from DVD to New Hard Drive

I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro, and a new 500 gig hard drive to use in it. The new hard drive is mounted using a hard drive dock. While attempting to install Snow Leopard on the new hard drive from the MacBook Pro's DVDs, I get the following message:
"Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer."
Is there any way to install a fresh version of Snow Leopard onto this new hard drive from these DVDs?

First prep your drive as follows:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Upon completion quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the OS X installation.

  • Reading Solaris 10 05/09 install from DVD or CD hangs on reading

I'm a novice Solaris system admin, so I could use some help. I've got a Sun 420R that has an older Solaris 10 installed on it. I'm trying to update the system to a clean install of the 05/09 release. The Sun 420R is on the HCL, so I'm surprised I'm having problems. The problem is that with either a DVD or a CD, when I "boot cdrom", the media begins being read and the \ | / 's twiddle as normal. However, about 30 seconds into the read, the twiddling stops and a "\" is frozen and the machine appears to be hung.
Any pointers that would help me get Solaris 10 05/09 freshly installed on the machine would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

---- from my build doc ------------------------
The X1s have no disk drive, nor do the new Sun Blades – for these a network boot is required.
Solution: on Solaris 10 VM (x86)
    svcadm enable smserver
    was the final step, although
    svcadm enable volfs
may be required as well. After that, it will mount at /cdrom.

  • HT201064 Fresh Mavericks install, iPhoto installed from DVD - won't update via the App Store

    Hi all
I did a fresh install of Mavericks, then installed a few apps from the App store.
I then remembered iPhoto etc. that I have from the original install discs (2012 MBP)...but whilst iPhoto says an update is available (9.5.1), and launches the App store it won't show as an update via the App store.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Sadly you're mistaken. A 2012 MacBook Pro has no install DVDs. Apple stopped issuing install disks with new Macs soon after the permanent advent of the Mac App Store with OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Additionally, the version of the iLife apps; iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand that last came on install disks are not the Mac App Store (MAS) versions and are not compatible with being updated through the MAS.
The apps from that old disk that you have from another Mac may be updatable however, using the Software Update facility in the Apple menu.

  • X11 wont start in OS 10.4.3., installed from DVD

    Hi,
I installed X11 from the Tiger installation DVD (yes, the X11User.pkg file, not the other one) and I can find the X11 app in the utilities folder. however, when I double click the app icon for X11, it just flashes on for a second or two, I can see X11 menu for a while, and then X11 app terminates itself.
I haven't been able to use Gimp (2.2.8 version if I remember correctly) because of this. obviously X11 does not start, because Gimp just notifies me that "X11 is needed to run this app" or something...
Anyone know what I could do? does X11 need anything else to support it? I've been a proud owner of my iBook for couple of months, and quite a newbie with this OS, so any advice (with "for dummies" conversion if possible) is very welcome!
    Thanks!

Are there any files in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/ ?
You can get there in the finder by clicking on Go -> Go to Folder, then enter the path above.
You should have 2 files in that directory; fonts.dir & fonts.scale
If you do not have those 2 files you'll need to uninstall and reinstall X11.
If you have those files you may need to reset your X11 configuration for your user. On the command line run the following command as the user that is having problems with X11.
    cp /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc ~/.xinitrc

  • Rosetta Download - install from DVD won't work due to software updates!

I need Rosetta for an ATO Australian Tax Digital Certificate... Using the SL install disk says" installation may not work check the latest combo download" The only apple combos I can see are for 10.4 / 10.5
I need Rosetta urgently - how do I install it? No when I run the CSI (ATO) program it does NOT ask me to install Rosetta - it just doesn't run. Rosetta is not installed.
    Please help!

    bonzabuy wrote:

I tried reinstalling Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD on a Mac updated to 10.6.1. I did not get a message saying "installation may not work." Instead I got a notification that "the installation was completed successfully," with the following advisory:
"You may have installed Mac OS X software that is older than your current version of Mac OS X, and may not work properly. To ensure the best experience please download and install the latest version of the Mac OS X Combo update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/. You should do this even if you currently have the latest Mac OS X update installed."
I assume that the advisory was triggered by the OS version being greater than 10.6 to "future proof" this DVD, & eventually there will be some Snow Leopard Combo updates.
Anyway, the important part is that currently, there appears to be only one version of Rosetta for Snow Leopard available, & it is installed successfully by this procedure (if it wasn't already installed, which it probably already was).
I think that your problem with the CSI (ATO) program may be elsewhere, since from what I can tell it is a Java application meant to run inside a browser. See http://www.ato.gov.au/help/bp/printcontent.asp?doc=/content/help/bp/32902.htm for more about this.
