Keynote default

When opening a PowerPoint presentation, Keynote opens as the default app. How do I get PowerPoint to open instead?

1) Select a PowerPoint file in the Finder.
2) Hit Apple-I to bring up the info pane.
3) In the 'Open With...' pane choose PowerPoint. This makes this file open in PP.
4) Click the 'Change All...' button. This makes all PP files open in PP.
You can use the same technique to choose between Preview and Adobe for all PDFs etc.

  • Keynote defaulting to PowerPoint

When I try to open a Keynote file, the files always open in PowerPoint even though the default is set to Keynote. How can I make it open each file in the correct program? I've tried to reset the default using the info panel, but it didn't work and the default reset back to PowerPoint. I'm using an iMac Intel Core i5 with OS X 10.6.8, but this has happened on older models and with older OS's. The Keynote versions is 4.0.4 and the PowerPoint is the Office for Mac 2008 version 12.2.9.

Are you making sure to select 'Change All...' in the Info pane when you change the default app? Other than that, I would make sure PowerPoint isn't doing any funny business when it starts up, like changing your defaults. Some applications have a tendency to do that, and Office is one of them.

  • Make Keynote default presentation software

I have office 08 on my Mac but have now switched to iWork 08. I don't want to delete office 08 as there are some occasions when I need it, but i prefer to work in iWork 08.
How do I make keynotes the default program for presentations. Likewise for pages and numbers respectively?
    Cheers

Highlight a known Word document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose Pages. If Pages is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the Pages application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with Pages. You can then double-click the Word documents & they will open in Pages. Note that the icon for the Word files will have a plain, white icon.
    Repeat with Excel/Numbers & PowerPoint/Keynote.

  • Keynote Saves .key files to default open with Powerpoint

I've been finding that whenever I create a new keynote file and save it somewhere, if I double click on the file it will automatically attempt to open it with powerpoint. After powerpoint opens it will obviously say it does not recognize the file. I can correctly open the file with keynote by right-clicking and manually opening with keynote.
If I open 'get info' on the file I will see that it is selected to open with powerpoint. I can open the drop down menu to change the opening option and see that powerpoint is selected but keynote is listed right below with '(default)' beside it. If I select keynote (default) and close the drop down menu it will stay as keynote and the file will correctly open with keynote all subsequent times.
However, if I click the 'change all' button below to set all files of this type to the selected option (keynote - default) then my selection automatically changes back to powerpoint in the drop down menu. It is really weird and confusing.
    Any help?

I've posted this many times & others have posted their methods more than once as well.
This is what works for me. After I installed the new iWork updates I created a folder on an external drive & named it "other applications." I then moved the new iWork apps to this folder & renamed the applications Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. I have icons for two versions of Pages & Numbers (I rarely use Keynote) in my Dock. Even with two versions of Pages & Numbers running, double-clicking an existing file opens in Pages 4.3 or Numbers 2.3. This should also keep the Mac App Store from nagging you to update.

  • I have updated the latest version of keynote, and I could not open my old presentations. Can you help me please?

Keynote ask the last update, but I have this version, the number 6.5.2. Help me, please

I'm having the same issue - OS is up to date and checked thatI have 6.5.2.
When I right click on 'open with' it just says 'Keynote (default)'
Do I need to re-install Keynote?

  • Keynote Font Stability in 2.1

I've been working on my powerbook G4 to build keynote slides and I have to use Arial font. However, when I move the slide deck to the presentation powerbook G4 (different machine), the fonts automatically default to Gil Sands.
I made sure both computers have the same version/copy of Arial (and the same version of Keynote), but it keeps happening. How can I get the font to stay the same or is Gil Sans the keynote default font (when it doesn't recognize the font used)?

    Hi pramod,
Is this css file in your local? If it's local file, you should open your DS, and upload this file. (Application proporties-> Custom CSS)
Than you should write your css classes, for exp (.color or something like that) in your companent's CSS Class.

  • Presentation doesn't work in Windows

After I finished a presentation I tried exporting it as a QT movie (PowerPoint export is pretty useless it seems), but 1) It couldn't play in Windows and 2) It lacks a bit on my Mac when viewed in QT so I'm guessing that, if I get it to work, it will do this in Windows as well. Any thoughts about what to do?
When I opened the QT presentation in Windows it showed the first slide, no music and then changed slide at random time. Any idea about why?
I need to show this on a Windows computer so I really hope I can get it to work
    Thanks...

Try changing the frame rate. Keynote defaults to 24 FPS, which is standard for cinema, but you might find the transitions more satisfying if you run at 29.97 or 30 FPS. (29.97 is standard for NTSC video; 30 is a close approximation). I've found that even at 29.97 FPS, the transitions don't look quite as smooth as they do running natively in Keynote, so I think Keynote must be building frames literally as fast as it can, up to the 60 or 85 Hz refresh rate of the video card. So try a higher frame rate. Heck, see if you can export and then play back at 60 FPS. QuickTime will simply drop frames if it can't play back that quickly on the target machine, and assuming that Keynote still exports the way it always has, it should still drop to 0 FPS between transitions, reducing the size penalty of the higher frame rate.

  • How to change default fonts in Keynote?

How to change default fonts in Keynote?

You can't set a default font.
Instead use a custom slide master with the font you want to use.

  • A program to change default fonts for templates in Keynote

Has anyone written a utility to change the default on Keynote templates. Doing it manually seems like a lot of repetition.

You could try editing the source code for the widget.
I don't know enough about JavaScript to tell you how to do it, but to see the source, select the Widget file, Ctrl-click, and Show Package Contents.
It is either the parser.js or the Weather.js file that handles the instructions for the widget. If you can figure out where it pulls the default location, you should be able to hard code your city.

  • Setting Keynote as default .ppt application

Is there any way to set Keynote as the program that opens .ppt files? I know you can set the default for specific files, but is there a way to make it a default for all ppt, even with powerpoint installed? I'm using an Air, 13 in, 1.4 i5, 4GB ram. I have Yosemite installed with the most recent iWork apps and Mac Microsoft Office 2011 installed.

right click a PowerPoint file > select Get Info
in the get info window;  >  Open With
click on the drop down menu and select Keynote
    click the Change All button

  • Unable to set default table attributes in Keynote

I've been trying to change the default table attributes in one of my themes, and as per the description in the Keynote manual (page 237-8), this should be a straightforward process:
    1) In the slide navigator, create a new slide.
    2) If you're setting up default attributes for a particular master slide (rather than all the masters in the current theme), click Masters in the toolbar and choose the master slide. [I want to change the table attributes in all master slides in the particular theme, I skip this step.)
    3) Place a table on the slide.
    4) Select the table and set its attributes.
    5) Do one of the following: To make the table the default for only the current master slide, choose Format>Advanced>Define Table for Current Master. To make the table the default for all masters slides in the current theme, choose Format>Advanced>Define Table for All Masters.
    6) If you don't want the table on the slide, delete the table.
Step 1) through 4) is unproblematic, but the second I try to execute step 5), the new formatting is all mixed up, and I am left with a table that looks nothing like the one I have just created in step 4). (Choosing to make the new table layout valid only in the current master doesn't help.)
Any thoughts on how to sort this out would be greatly appreciated!  I should mention that following a similar procedure for diagrams works like a dream.

    Hi!
              We have same problem!
The layout can be selected in application, but it is not taken as default.
         We appreciate your feedback
    Best Regards.

  • Pages, Keynote and Number apps missing from OS X Yosemite after restoring it to factory defaults

Recently my macbook pro OS X Yosemite experienced some problems, so I decided to reset it to factory defaults. Now, everything works well, except for the fact that built in apps Pages, Keynote and Numbers are missing: what can I do? The App Store says I need to pay for them again, but I clearly remember (and checked again on the apple website) that the apps were built-in and not purchased. Is there anyway I can get them back without paying for them, since I clearly already have?
    Thank you!

If you previously associated them with an Apple ID, log in with it, click on the Purchases tab, and download them from there. This is free.
If not or you don't have access to it, click here and contact Apple.

  • Getting Keynote's "Defining Default Attributes of Text Boxes" to work

The following is from the iWorks09 Keynote "Help" for the topic "Defining Default Attributes of Text Boxes and Shapes":
    4. Do one of the following:
To make the text box the default for only the current master slide, choose Format > Advanced > “Define Text for Current Master.”
To make the text box the default for all master slides in the current theme, choose Format > Advanced > “Define Text for All Masters.”
I tried doing everything up to this point, but when I select "Format > Advanced" there is NO OPTION (not even unselectable "faded") for > “Define Text for All Masters.” There is only a an option for "Charts" & it is unselectable (there should be options for text, shapes, charts, etc.)
    Can anyone help me?
If not, this is definitely a *+_major bug_+* that needs to be fixed!!

    Kogiah,.
What do you mean when you say that the Lock commands don't work? Are they grayed-out, or is that once you use them you don't like the result? If the option is grayed-out, you either don't have an object selected, or the selected object is formatted as Inline. Changing the format to Floating will bring back the Lock option.

  • Default signature missing when sending pdf Keynote presentation from ipad

I use my ipad quite a lot to create and send presentations and updates to my clients. However, I have noticed that these e-mails (pdf) do not have my default signature in them when received at the other end.
When creating the email from Keynote, the signature is present, but is removed when viewed in Outlook or any other system than iOS.
In the sent folder on both Iphone and iPad, the signature is still present.
    Anyone else experienced this?
    Christian

So I sent an email from iBooks  to myself and my signature came through just fine. Not sure how you might solve your missing signature. Are you running iOS 5.0.1?
You might try a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
This seems to correct numerous problems on the iPad maybe it will help you.
