Keynote document stuck 'updating' in iCloud

Summary
A keynote file on iCloud.com displays "updating..." when clicked on, and is unavailable for download. The same document will also not download to iOS5 devices.
Background
At the time I upgraded my iPad to iOS5 I had a 20mb Keynote presentation which I had created on the device. I updated iOS and then Keynote, and the document was uploaded to iCloud.
I recently went to access the document on my iPad. It said I could not access the document as I was not connected to the internet, yet I was. I logged into iCloud.com to check that the document was there, and it was.
I deleted Keynote on my iPad, and reinstalled it, confident that I would simply be able to download the document again from iCloud. After reinstalling Keynote, the document icon shows with a download progress bar. Left for several hours the bar did not make any progress:
I returned to iCloud.com hoping I could download the document to my computer. When I click on the document it displays "updating...", but again left for several hours nothing happens:
My question
How do I recover this file to either my iPad or computer (Mac OS X)

I had a whole bunch of documents that did it.
I downloaded the most recent version of each document either from iCloud.com or to iTunes on an iOS device, turned all document syncing off on all devices, restarted all devices, turned document syncing back on on all devices and added my documents back after first changing their names.
I'd give it a while first though before go through all that.
I now have 600 MB (used) of my iCloud storage that can't be accounted for, I have a ticket with Apple support about it, my suspicion is it's corrupt data and hence why I changed the names of my documents.
You may find turning syncing on and off on a particular device might resolve the problem and may not need to jump through all of the hoops mentioned.

You can back up documents either by downloading them from iCloud.com or from an iOS device by saving to iTunes.
Try turning document and data syncing off on all devices and deleting the problem document, before adding the offending document back change it's name and then re-enable document and data syncing.

If I start a new document in pages and then try to share this document with the top ring link in pages "share Link via iCloud" a screen notification tells me to "Set Up iCloud. Go to Settings and select iCloud. Sign in and turn on iCloud Drive for Page".
When I go to settings I see that I am signed in.
Please help as I need the documents back on my ipad.

Did you have iCloud photo stream turned on for photos? If you did, then you can view your photos at iCloud.com. If you can verify that they are all there, you can do the factory reset. Once you turn on iCloud again after the reset, the photos won't be on the phone but they will still be in the photo stream which you can view on the device. You should be able to copy the photos down to the computer from iCloud. On an Apple Mac computer, iPhoto can view photo stream and you can download photos there too.
Personally, with syncing issues with iTunes, I prefer to use an app called PhotoSync (which is an app in the App Store, Mac App Store, and available from the developer's website for Windows PC's. This App (once turned on for both devices) lets you send photos back and forth within wifi.

If both files are held locally on the computer it looks like there is no problem however if you try and do it though icloud (ie your docs are saved on icloud) you dont get the "source" oprion besides the graph etc. Is this a but or a broken function due to the new implementation of icloud.

Well, I have and iMac, a MBP and a 3rd gen. iPad. I set up my iCloud account many months ago and everything was fine until I updated my iPad to iOS 6.
Now, neither Pages, Keynote nor Number show my iCloud documents, although they do appear in mi iMac and MPB.
I have turned off and on the "Documents and data" option in the iPad's iCloud settings and the "Use iCloud" in the Pages', Numbers' and Keynote settings.
The strangest thing is this: When I go to Settings - iCloud - Storage, I can see all my documents, but they would never show up in the application.
Yes, I know, I could use Dropbox, but come on Apple!!! This is why I use this apps.

How to create a link in a keynote document towards an iCloud keynote document

Hello everyone,
I want to create a keynote presentation (located in iCloud) and make a link to another Keynote presentation, also located in iCloud.
Apparently, this is not possible, since when I create a link, the only possibility is to link to another file located on my physical drive.
If anyone has any ideas how to bypass this...

Note that there's currently a bug in the way annotations work on an OCG. The link will disappear but the bounding box of the link will remain an active hotspot. In your case however the bug may be useful, as if two link objects partly overlap on the page and one isn't on an OCG, turning off the OCG does indeed disable the hotspot.
Follow this process to see what it can (and cannot) do:
From the Tools > Print Production Panel, open Preflight
Select 'single fixups' - the third icon
Click the "Layers" section just so things will go in a logical place
Click "options" then "Create new Preflight Fixup"
Name it "Put all links on the Links layer"
Click the "Layers category" and scroll in the right-side list to choose "Put objects on layer"
In the "Objects identified by a check" menu, choose "Annotation is of type Link"
In the Layer name field, enter "Links"
Click OK to save your new check.
Assuming you have a document open, select your new Fixup and press the Fix button.
You'll be asked to save the file with a new name, then you'll get a message about the layers being modified and instructing you to close and re-open the file (that's a limitation in Preflight, until you do the new layer won't show up).
To understand how the overlapping OCG-nonOCG bug works, now you have a link on the Links layer, create another one using the normal tool (which will not be on the layer). Half-overlap them and see what happens when you turn the layer off and on.
The simplest way to test is to create a blank document and add a "go to a web page" link with a visible rectangle - then when you migrate it onto a layer, you can probe for the hotspot by hovering your mouse and looking for the URI tooltip.

Documents edited on the Mac need manually uloading to iCloud at iCloud.com,documents edited on the mobile devices are updated automatically.

Since the last update my iCloud on my tablet is stuck in update will not let me sign out of it or chande anything how can I stop the upgrade from running. I've tried everything nothing is working.

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

Downloading keynote document to ipad

Before a recent ios update, it was easy to save and then move a Keynote document from the cloud to my ipad for use when I don't have internet access. Now, I can not figure out how to do it. Quite embarrassing a few days ago when I thought it was on my device and it was not, and the school that I was in would not let me on their internet! I've been able to successfully do this for the past 3-4 years. Not at all happy with Apple for making things "easier!" Can someone help?

I believe you go to Settings>Keynote turn Use iCloud to Off, then re-open Keynote and you'll get a prompt asking if you want to keep the presentation on your iPad. To resume using iCloud go back to settings and turn it back on.

IOS Pages 2.0 and 2.1 implement an entirely incompatible document format with Pages ’09 v4.3. It cannot open them, and you are then prompted to update to Pages v5+ which is compatible with your IOS Pages.
Unfortunately, updating to Pages v5+ is a bad thing, as it is a brand new application that has omitted over 90+ features from Pages ’09 v4.3. When you update to Pages v5+, it will move your old still functional version of the earlier Pages into /Applications/iWork. Aside from all the missing functionality, Pages v5+ will likely damage older documents that depend on specific Pages ’09 v4.3 features (including AppleScript and custom Templates).
Oh, by the way, the older and new Pages documents have the same filename extension (.pages) making document organization difficult without applying different tag colors to old and new documents.
We are recommending that users remain on their earlier Pages version. You may have to export documents from IOS Pages as Word .docx to avoid the OS X Pages update notice.

Unsolved: unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document

I'm trying to open a presentation I made some time ago, it is a .key file I used to open without any problems. Now the message appears:
"Unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document".
I tried the solution described here, but it didn'd work: i change extension to .zip, unzip it and there is no index file. There are only pictures from the presentation in .tiff
I also sent the file to my friends and they had the same problem opening it. It's very strange, I've successfully opened it before. And the problem is only with THIS file!
Please help me out!

Try to delete the Keynote Preferences. They are located in the folder Macintosh HD>Users>your username>Library>Preferences and titled com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist.
Your profile shows that you are still on Mc OS 10.6.6, is that true? You might try to update to 10.6.7 as I believe that there was a font issue fixed in this update (I don't know for sure since I am still on 10.5.8).
Try those and report back and we will see what we can come up with.

URGENT - Error "Unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document" - and there is no index file (so the usually suggested solution doesn't work)

As you see in the heading, I am getting the error "Unable to open file because it isn't a valid Keynote document". There has been a number of threads on this and there seems to be a usual work around that works in many cases, by changing the file extension to .zip and then looking for the index file and making some more extension changes...unfortunately, in my case (and it also happened to others), there is no index file, so the usually suggested solution doesn't work...Can someone please help? I am working on a tight deadline and would like to try and recover the file.

How do I upload a PDF not made in keynote, pages, or numbers to iCloud?

Trying to upload a PDF to iCloud so i can view iton all my devices. Used to be able to do this by dragging it to iDsik. But my iDisk icon is now gone and I would like to still use this feature.

the latest version of the iOS app GoodReader has been updated to use the iCloud sync features. You can open, store, and edit PDF files and they'll automatically sync with GoodReader on all other devices. Documents are stored in iCloud and will also sync with any Mac that is setup to sync with iCloud. The Mac will automatically have a folder where you can open synced files or add new files from your Mac. details of how to do this are in the GoodReader help files.

How to know if a file has been updated in iCloud after modification?
I work on various app including Keynote on my Mac Pro. And after modification, i close file and I wait.
When I see no more Internet traffic. I assume that keynote has uploaded all the works I have done into iCloud.
But when I open the same file on my iPad on the way to work. I do not see the file updated.
I assume that I did not wait long enough.
I wished I had a way to enforce the updated file to upload and way to get confirmation that it has been completed.
In windows I simply push the sync button.
But for iCloud I do not yet see anything like that.
Please help.
