Keynote export woes

Hi,
I'm putting together a small (2min) presentation/promo which uses Keynote transitions and animations synced to music. When I playback from Keynote, the timings for all the elements are fine. However, when I export as a quicktime, all of the transitions/animations speed up and are then obviously out-of-sync with the music... Has anyone else had this problem and if so, have a work-around/fix? D

Okay, so my work around endedup hinging on this:
Do not rely on autoplay timing (meaning assigning intro & exits times to your actions/builds within each slide).
If I export as an .mov without doing "recorded timing" I got the problem with the video playing slightly faster than the audio (hugely frustrating).
If I recorded the presentation by just letting it play through my preset builds & transitions, then exported an .mov based on "recorded timing" it was interesting. The total run time was now correct, the slide transitions occurred at the correct time but each slide's individual events/builds played slightly sped up and then there were pauses where the the movie essentially let the audio catch up before the next slide. So overall the audio being out of sync wasn't as bad. It was obviously more noticeable the longer the slide was. Still not a usable end-product.
Finally, I went through and changed my assigned build/action times to on-click events rather than assigned delays. Then I "recorded" the presentation and manually queued each event in sync with the audio. Then I exported a .mov (again based on "recorded timing"). This exported the proper movie, with the entire run-time length, and individual events were kept in sync with the audio.
sigh... this whole export issue created a lot more work that it was supposed to be. hopefully this saves someone else some time!

  • More Keynote Export woes

I just finished a Keynote presentation for my parent's 60th Anniversary. It looks great and runs great in Keynote '06. I try to export it to Quicktime, and it exports about half of it and then hangs up on a slide transition. I have tried everything! Can anyone help? Thanks

I've this same problem only when I try to export with no compression. Exporting using H.264 works fine, however, that's not what i need. Sooo... I thought maybe it was the codec. I went on the web and checked out other applications and came across SheerVideo. Looked awesome. I got the free trial download and exported my 17 second keynote file using the SheerVideo options (Y'CbCr 8bv 4:4:4,RGB 8b, Y'CbCr 8bw 4:2:2) and it won't even begin to export saying I've not enough disk space. I've 300 Gig free and ready to take that file on, so I don't get it.

  • Keynote export options using Quicktime and iDVD

I am not happy with the output of HD Keynotes exported to iDVD...they work well with triggering the events with a click but the fonts look blocky. There is no way to upgrade the export settings to improve the quality.
I'm trying to squeeze as much out of Keynote as possible... and it seems I'm hitting a few problems.
Exporting the same Keynote to QT gets the clarity I want...because I can select the higher settings...and I can even "click" to trigger the events in QT Pro on my MBP... but as soon as I burn it in iDVD the clicks fail.
I am hoping to combine the clickability of the export to iDVD movie with the quality of the export to QT movie.
And I am soooo close.... I have discovered that the "clickability" seems to be controlled by a layer in the file called a Presentation Pause Track (found when I look at the movie properties).
Have you come across this before?
My plan was to extract the track and then add it to the hi res QT movie!!! I burnt the resulting QT to iDVD and the clicks were there!!! But the were all out of sync!
I discovered the Presentation Pause Track is a different length than the QT export... and even when I've subsequently added the PPtrack using "add to selection and scale" it is still out of whack!
Your help, guidance, commiserations would be appreciated...
Surely there is a way to have my HD Quicktime cake and eat it too!

    Cheers Brian
I'm green with envy re the 8 core Mac Pro!
To add to the info: I'm trying to find out how you can export to QT and iDVD and get a 2 movies of the same length... which should allow me to copy the pause track over and not lose sync with the clicks.
My latest test involves a 2 page Keynote (HD res) and the resulting QT export gave me a movie of 43 seconds while the iDVD export came out 57 seconds...
That's with the default settings for slide and build duration of 5 and 2 sec. (could that represent 2 pages of 5 + 2 sec?)
iDVD lets you alter these settings but to a minimum of 1 sec for each... QT export doesn't let you change these except for a self playing movie... so I'm now testing a self paced QT set at 1 and 1 sec and an iDVD set to 1 and 1 and see what happens...
Do you think I'm on the right track or am I wasting my time?
At least 8 cores might help reach theat conclusion a little faster!!

  • Importing a Keynote export

I put a file from an keynote export 1024x768 into the timeline. FCP tells me to use clip settings, Along with this an audio file that in keynote repeated twice. The audio file I had to put in twice to equal length of visual clip.  I say yes. The problem is when I export as a quicktime movie there is not picture and audio only runs for about 15secs. The movie should be 5min. What should I set movie for. I used default for quicktime using DVCpro NTSC. Should I change to H264?
I am trying to put this movie online as a streamed file video/audio together as one file.

1024x768 is not a standard production format used anywhere in the video industry.
    NTSC is 720x486.
Redo your Keynote to reflect that or use one of the HD pixel dimensions such as 1280x720 or 1920x 1080. Yes, you will probably have to rebuild the Keynote slides. Dont forget to take safe area constraints into account if this is going to be shown on a TV or projection system.
Do not, under any circumstances use the H264 codec to edit with.

  • Keynote Export "Transparent video"

This maybe a some tip and trick how to export form Keynote transparent chart animations and what ever...
i looking for answer around the network, but no answerts of this question! So i figure out how to do this and i like to share it (maybe helpful for others)
    1. Create a transparent .png file (i take for example my steps) i created in Photoshop transparent image 1024x576 for PAL Widescreen. Export as .png
    2. Open Keynote, make your own animated chart, pie or whatever you like.
    3. Open inspector > Document inspector set your size. (For my situation i choice 1024x576)
    4. Go to Slide inspector. Under Background choice Image Fill and use your transparent .png image
    5. File/Export.
    6. check include transparency. Under formats choice "Custom"
    7. Choice Settings!
    8. In Video Compression Settings Choice Animation Set your frame rate. Set Keyframes to Automatic. Set Depth to Millions Of Colors + (Quality - set to Best)
    Thats all!
Transparency are not working by default - it works only when you set a transparent Color Fill
this is some kind of Keynote Bug or so...

This also works if in your step 4, you choose "Color Fill", then using the Color well, choose any color you want, AND set its Opacity to 0%.  No need for the transparent .png file this way.
(I sure wish the Include Transparency check box would stay checked from one export to the next!)
Cheers, and thanks for the post.

  • Keynote Exporting Issues

To start... I have searched and found some answers to these questions that don't seem to work well.
I have created a Keynote Presentation with 4 slides, two with animated backgrounds, one sound effect on each one, animated Move-In, Out, & Actions, a background track, and a voice over.  I'm having a few problems with all of that when I export.
    1. The animated backgrounds stop moving during the "Preview" in KN and on the export, but in different places.  I have selected "Loop" and it won't.  The desired effect is to have it keep looping through the Slide Transition.
    2. I want the background track AND voice over.  When I try to adjust the volume of either for balance, the exported version (regardless of misaligned transitions) has both audio's at full volume.  This feels like something I should be able to lock into place before the export.
    3. Timing of animations and slide transitions is very different in the exported version.  I've seen discussions on here to put the "Delay" to "0.0", but won't that effect my desired effect on the animations?  or, is this something you do after "Recording" the voice over and it somehow remembers the delays?  I'm a bit confused on this one.
I have always had the feeling of, when I say to myself, "there should be an easier way to do this," when it comes to apple stuff, there usually is.  Thanks for any help you can give.

You might find the whole process a lot easier if you combine the background and voice over on one audio track.
If you don't have an audio editor, the freeware Audacity will do it all for you...

  • Keynote Export to PowerPoint

Well, I was using this work around just fine, until I upgraded to Office 2008.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1341613
Now I can't even open that PowerPoint file at all. I get the error in PowerPoint that it experienced an error and had to quit.
I'd love to blame Microsoft for this, but feel it is an issue with Keynote.
    Any help on this one?
    My PowerPoint version is 12.1.3
    Keynote version 4.0.3

i'm having the same problem with exporting from keynote to powerpoint. I try to open an exported ppt file in powerpoint but it gives me an error - very frustrating. Also, when I exported it, it didn't export all the slides (when i open the ppt file with keynote).
I ended up saving it as an iwork 06 file - opened it from a keynote '06 version and then exported it. All the slides where there but when i go to powerpoint version 12 and open it - it doesn't. It did open in the old powerpoint version though.
both keynote and powerpoint have serious export problems -- grrr.

  • Movie within Keynote, export to quicktime transition delay

I have a very strange problem I can't seem to figure out. I create a Keynote presentation every week that is used to show our announcements at our church. I create the keynote with automatic advancement, then export it to a quicktime movie (which is then put on an iPod and used to project at church). It wall works very well and I have used this for several years. Here's my problem:
I inserted a movie into a slide in Keynote, the movie is about 30 seconds long and I am playing about 10 to 15 seconds of it. I then have the slide transition to another slide. When I play the keynote it all seems to work great - however, when I export the movie via quicktime, it plays through the movie then hangs for 10 seconds or so at the end of the movie before making the transition to the next slide. It is apparently "stuck" for that time. I have played around with every setting I could find to see if I could get it to work right but nothing changed this behavior. I tried shortening the movie length under the quicktime tab in the inspector, changing the delay in the slide tab in the inspector, nothing.
To make matters worse I apparently can't just cut out the 10 seconds of offending material via quicktime pro as it somehow only registers by the slide number and I cannot get the index arrow to pick a portion of the movie to splice.
Its all very frustrating - I've spent about 3 hours on this silly thing this evening telling myself "it can't be this hard." But either I am really missing the obvious, or there is a bug in Keynote, or this just can't be done.
BTW I am using Keynote 09.
Any help would be very appreciated. For tonight I've given up on the movie and just cut that part out.
    thanks.

You've found one of my frustrations...here's the way it works:
In keynote, you MUST set the slide delay for a movie to stay on screen, and you can see that you're able to transition before the movie is done by cutting the delay shorter than the movie. The draw back is, if you want the whole movie to play, you MUST set the delay to at least the same length as the movie.
When exporting to QT, this doesn't work. The export forces the movie to play in its entirety. If you weren't trying to cut the movie short, you'd still have to remove your auto advance delay so that it transitions after the movie plays. This is why you're seeing that long hold, it's counting your movie length AND the delay time you added in Keynote.
The only thing I can suggest is removing that transition delay and living with the movie playing through to the end. You could always trim the movie in QT Pro and use that in Keynote I suppose.

  • I'm editing ppts in Keynote exporting back to PPTs and loosing "hyperlinks" to movie files

I'm editing ppts in Keynote but have to use them as exported ppts to teach college in a Windows-PC environment
    Keynote 5.3
    MacPro OSX 10.75
    SUBJECT:
Loss of ppt function after opening in keynote then exporting as ppt
Educational ppts (Powerpoints) from Pearson play movies using PowerPoint or Powerpoint Viewer via a button located on some slides if the movies are located in the same folder as the ppt.
If I open such a ppt in keynote and immediately export it as a ppt, the ability to play the movie is lost; the click on the button just advances the slide instead.
Is there a preference in Keynote that might be set differently to prevent this behavior and allow playing of the movie from within the Powerrpoint application.
Note that the size of the file (via Get Info) is exactly the same after exporting the ppt FROM Keynote 5.3

    [email protected]

    Thank you Gary,
    I did just that last night;
Select the graphic object ("Play" Btn").
Open the Powerpoint "tools" floating pallet wd.
    Open the "Hyperlink" 'tab'
    select 'link to file'
then browse (open finder wd) to find and select the movie file.
Click "Open" and a powerpoint function returns the full path to the file and associates it with the "mouseUp" msg handler within the script of the "Play" Btn, which I expect essentially sends a doubleClick to the movie file ( ie. opens it) and it will then play in a new window from within some other application like Quicktime or Media Player if that other application exists on your computer. (I'm getting a (sandbox?) dialogue window first, telling me,  asking me something) that needs to be dealt with. I'm using Powerpoint for Mac and OSX 10.7.5.
(I expect that will not occur using a PC and some version of Windoz in the PC ed conference room environment or using emulated Windoz 7 within the Parallels 8 application on the MacPro, but I have not tried that since I only have the Powerpoint viewer installed in that Windoz 7 system as of the moment.
I've never really used Powerpoint or Keynote until recently because I have used my own presentation application created in Supercard which of course is much more flexible; from the ability to utilze windows of any kind or number on any slide, to all the power of unix via shell scripts and a huge set of functions native to the Supercard suite of stable developement tools.
Any suggestions how best to integrate movies into straight Keynote presentations ?
    Thank you again Gary,
    -Dan

  • Embedded MPEG-1 Muxed movie in Keynote Export

    Hi!
I have a presentation to do and there is a QuickTime file I have to include, and it works fine as a QuickTime embedded file in a Keynote presentation. However, I have to make it into a exported QuickTime Presentation.
Unfortunately the mov file is a MPEG-1 Muxed file and it doesn't export the sound when I export the Keynote to QuickTime. Plus it has a green line down the right side.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
    Thanks in advance

You want to get a program called MPEG Streamclip and convert the MPEG to a normal QuickTime format.

  • No Audio on Keynote exported to iDVD in quicktime

I am at my wits end with this! I just got this mac in May so bear with me (recently converted PC-er). This is my problem, in a nutshell:
    1) I created a keynote presentation
    2) I created a soundtrack for it in Garageband (blending two songs together to play out nicely over it) and then placed it in the document. It worked fine.
    3) I exported the keynote presentation (making sure to include audio) to quicktime and put it on my desktop
    4) In the meantime I had created an iDVD project to place this presentation in...everything is working fine audio wise on the menus
    5) I dropped the presentation into the project--it encoded, I previewed it to make sure it worked, it did.
    6) I burned it onto a dvd
    7) tested it this morning by putting it in my dvd player at home and the movie plays, but there is no sound! Help!
Interesting things that might be significant
    1) when i exported the keynote to quicktime and saved it on my desktop--it actually created two icons-one of the movie (that played the movie w/the soundtrack) and one that looks like it was just the soundtrack. Is that significant?
    2) the tracks I used to make the garage band mix were purchased from iTunes but to make sure I didn't run into any DRM issues I burned them onto a disc and then re-imported them-making sure to use the 'burned' songs in my mix.
I am trying to get this ready to show for a presentation on Saturday and it's getting down to the wire.
thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks for the link, it looks like this is just a bug in b/w Keynote and Quicktime and I'd need to upgrade to Quicktime Pro in order to make it work--that's not an option for me right now so instead I took the slides from Keynote, imported them as an album to iPhoto and tried to send it as a slideshow to iDVD, but that made the video jumpy (although I did have my soundtrack). My final solution was to take the slides from iPhoto, drop them into iMovie, add transitions b/w each slide to emulate the feel I was going for--and adding my soundtrack there. I exported it to my desktop and then dropped it into iDVD. It works great. I am disappointed that I could not have the builds in the slides that I wanted-but this current state works.
I wish I'd just started with iMovie. Next time I definitely will!

  • Keynote export images

Keynote Version 6 exports images in nice form, but does not allow you to output only chosen slides.  It creates images for every slide!
It lets you pick slides 4 and 5 for example, but will send out an image for every slide you have, whether you have 5 or 500!
Just one of those little things that were not "finished" in the new version.

An alternative to deleting the slides you don't want exported in Keynote 6.0.1, you can "skip" the slides within the document and only the "un-skipped" slides will have their images exported. Undo the "skip" after exporting the images to return your document to its presentation state.
Skip Slide is available in the Slide menu, or with a command-shift-H, or can be added to your toolbar through "customize toolbar".
If the document has a number of skipped slides you don't want to change, you can duplicate the document and either use Gary Scotland's delete unwanted slides, or use this skip process.
And, let's hope the next update comes out soon and renders this workaround unnecessary.

  • Need some help with Keynote export

I want to create an swf file from Keynote that will be used in a looped Powerpoint slideshow. It will be no longer than 1 minute long.
I create the file and export as a .mov.
Then I used Visualhub to convert to an .swf. People have had lots of issues playing it
Then I converted the .mov file to .flv with Adobe Media Encoder, opened it in Flash and exported as .swf.
    More problems.
I really like the ease of use and effects in keynote but the exporting is really bad.
Are there any alternatives programs for the mac.
I have already had a look at Sliderocket but it is web based which makes it slower and put images in slides a lot longer.
I really need to find a way of making decent swf files with good effects etc

    Dave,
The issue seems to be with Flash and how it is converting the QuickTime movie, rather than an issue with Keynote. If the QuickTime movie plays fine in QuickTime Player, then the export from Keynote to QuickTime is fine and indeed the issue is in the conversion from QuickTime to Flash.
While this is not a forum for PowerPoint, check out the supported multimedia formats for PowerPoint - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA012303251033.aspx. Flash is not listed. So while it might play, you might consult Microsoft.
I would recommend using one of the following products to convert your QuickTime file to a PowerPoint supported format, other than Flash:
    Flip4Mac
    http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
Studio, Studio Pro, or Studio Pro HD. You can convert your QuickTime movies to WMV a fully supported format by PowerPoint. You can export to QuickTime and then use the Flip4Mac application to convert.
    MPEG Streamclip
    http://www.squared5.com
You can convert to various formats including AVI and MPG, both which PowerPoint supports. This is application can be found for both Mac and PC at.
Finally, a company does make Flash plugin tools "Flash Ready" for PowerPoint, due to the possible issues of adding Flash to PowerPoint. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/EM102525451033.aspx?pid=CE01030605 1033

  • Does latest Keynote export to Powerpoint? Does it do it well?

I am running the previous version, and exporting from it to Powerpoint is dicey. Does Keynote 08 do it any better, i.e., more accurately?
    Thanks
    Sean

No, as far as I've seen, exports to PowerPoint still requires a good deal of work if you have complex presentation. While it may improve, I don't think Keynote's export will ever be anywhere near as good as one of the PowerPoint clones (like in Neo Office) or PowerPoint itself.
