Keynote exports to low quality PDF file

I exported my presentation to PDF file which looked perfect on my laptop screen. But when the presentation was projected on a large conference screen it looked awful - not contast and not well-readable. Does anybody know how to increase the quality of the PDF file?
I use Keynote 3 and I am a new user.
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The default setting for resolution is low. You should be able to change the resolution of the presentation in the first tab of the inspector. Try bumping up the resolution and then exporting as a pdf.

  • Built-in PDF viewer could better render low quality PDF using the recognized text

I've been a little frustrated with this. When I view a low quality PDF on a university website, zooming in/out on firefox (v34.0 and v35.0.1 on linux is what I've tried) proves that the quality could be drastically improved. The original fonts looks like the pdf-lowqual.png file below: (unable to upload images on here)
    http://i59.tinypic.com/169kkcw.png
While zooming in or out, the font displays as normal "hypertext" or whathave you before going back to looking ugly again, as seen here:
    http://i61.tinypic.com/2gvptw0.png
Is there a way to permanently display the recognized text with local or internet fonts? I assume the text is recognized as that is what allows one to select text.

[[Use the Adobe Reader plugin to view or download PDF files]] or [[View PDF files in Firefox without downloading them]] are the current offerings for viewing pdfs in Firefox.
However, there are alternatives like embedding fonts into the pdf. I do also know that there are web safe fonts with similar function: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_typography#Web-safe_fonts]

  • No link after exporting Crystal report as pdf file

    Hello,
If my Crystal Report contain link to the .avi file saved on the local hard disk and if I export the Report as .pdf file, pdf file does not contain that link. Why?
    The overall scenario is like-
My application fires a query on SQL Server database and result of that query is stored in a Dataset. This dataset is set as a datasource to the Crystal report.  Now some, records (returned by the query) have .avi files(i.e. Event Videos which are stored on the local hard disk) associated with them. I have stored these .avi files in a specific path on local Hard disk say "C:/EventVideos/*.avi" .   I used a special format in these avi files name. (like - "EventVideo_1.avi" (This is for 1st event), "EventVideo_5.avi" (This is for 5th event)etc. to identify which avi is for which event. All events do not have avi files associated with them)
Now, I take one object in crystal report. Using it's Format editor created a formula for hyperlink as -
          "file:///c:/EventVideos/EventVideo_" + {DataTable1.EventID} + ".avi" .
EventID is the field of dataset which has ID's (like 0, 1, 2,  3, 4 etc) of all resulted events. It is of a String data type.
Now when I export, my report as .xls, .rtf, .doc, I can open the avi files. When I bring cursor on this object, cursor get change to Hand and after click on it avi file start to play.
But if I export it as .pdf, it does not contain the link for avi files. When I bring cursor on this object, it does not change to Hand, and after click on it nothing happens. No video play.
    I stick to this problem.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Taken from CR Help File:
"PDF format is a page-based format. The exported documents are intended for printing and redistribution. PDF format will export both layout and formatting in a manner that is consistent with how the report looks on the Preview tab. PDF format embeds the TrueType fonts that appear in the document. (Non-TrueType fonts are not supported.) This export format does not support Microsoft font-linking technologyu2014which is used to provide support for some extended character sets such as Chinese HKCS. Therefore, the fonts used in the report must contain all of the required glyphs. These URI types are supported for hyperlinks: "http:", "https:" and "mailto:".
Therefore your hyperlink is not working as u are using File type when cr only supports http https and mailto uri types

  • Xournal pdf exporting of lower quality

I added some highlighting and text to the original pdf within the xournal. But the output quality of the original pdf changes (text with drawing), after exporting. Is there a way around.
    http://xournal.sourceforge.net/manual.html#printing
    states:
"If Xournal is unable to parse the PDF file, the poppler/cairo renderer is used instead to generate a new PDF file from scratch. "
    Thanks in advance.

The problem was in "printing" the PDF.
The issue was completely resolved by printing the iBA file to a Post Script file, and then indepently using Adobe Distiller to produce the final PDF.
It makes no sense to me why using Print to Adobe PDF from the iBA print menu works any differently than using Distiller on a .ps file. But whatever, it works, and it is beautiful.

  • Can I create a low resolution pdf file?

I have a 12 page document with a number of pictures which I wish to save as a PDF and upload to a website. In Pages when I export it as a PDF I get a choice of 'Good', 'Better' or 'Best' for image quality. Choosing 'Good' the resulting file is 8MB, rather too large for my liking. However when choosing 'Best' the resulting file size is still 8MB. So my questions are:
    1. What's the difference between these settings?
    2. Is it possible to create a PDF which reduces the image quality to screen resolution to make a smaller file?
I'd be grateful for any help.

Before you save to .pdf save your Pages document.
    +Menu > File Reduce File Size+
This will trim all your images to their cropped size and lower their resolution to 72dpi.
Create your .pdf using whichever of the settings you like.
Open the .pdf in Preview .app and go
    +Menu > File > Save As… > Format: PDF > Quartz Filter: Reduce File Size+
If you have Adobe Acrobat Pro
    +Menu > Document > Reduce File Size+
    or
+Menu > Advanced > PDF Optimizer… > set the resolution and options to your liking+

  • How can I export a smallformat flatten PDF-file with transparant parts in?

My post on a PDF - more clear with images (english):
    http://www.logicontrol.be/gallery/documents/help-eng.pdf
    Deze post in nederlandstalige versie:
    http://www.logicontrol.be/gallery/documents/help-nl.pdf
    Scope?
I'dd like to export an Indesign-file (.indd) to a PDF-file that has to be:
    - the smallest possible file size
    - which displays images and text sharp on the screen
    - which also certainly remain transparent parts of .psd-files after exporting
    - that is flattened for easy print
    The problem?
    ▪ How and with which of settings can I export such a file from InDesign 5.0?
    ▪ If necessary in combination with some settings (after exporting) in our Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?
    Further explanation
The export file contains lots of text, graphics, photographs and drawings. Many of these items are .psd-files that contain transparent areas. The intention is that this transparent parts actually remain transparent even after exporting/flattening /decreasing the PDF.
    ▪ With InDesign 5.0?
→ In the window Export Adobe PDF: (images see: http://www.logicontrol.be/gallery/documents/help-eng.pdf )
Should I start from a default PDF preset   (if yes > which one??)
    Possibilities are: High Quality Print / PDFX-1a: 2001 / PDFX-3:2002 / PDFX-4:2007 / Press Quality / Smallest File Size
Or is it better to create a PDF preset on my own?     (if yes > which settings??)
    Standard > PDF/X-format?
    Compatibility > PDF-version?
Compression > If artwork should be compressed and downsampled, and if so,
which method and settings to I have to use ?
Ouput > How can I control colors and PDF/X output intent profiles in the PDF-file?
Advanced > How can I control fonts, OPI specifications, transparency flattening, and JDF instructions are
                      in the PDF file?
    ▪ With Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?
→ How can I reduce the file size extra, so more reducing after exporting into PDF ?
→ How can I flatten the exported file (if not done during the export) ?
!! Important, when I export/reduce/flatten the file, I ‘dd like that the parts of images who were transparent before, stays also transparent after !!
    WHAT CAN I DO ??

    Hello,
I'm sorry you're having trouble. Unfortunately, this forum is for the ExportPDF service of Acrobat.com. The ExportPDF service functions as a PDF to *.docx file convertion and we can't help with problems specific to the desktop version of Acrobat or InDesign.  I'm happy to point you in the right direction.

  • Jpeg export is low quality

For some reason, when i export a jpeg, it seems low quality, even if i go up to 12 quality (and make the image 3 times the size of the original)
here's an example, an image that was TAKEN as a jpeg originally, imported to aperture, and then exported after some editing.
the one on the right is the exported jpeg, and it seems ..not sharp at all

You've got a couple of problems here:
    1. JPEG is not a very good format for editing then re-saving as a JPEG. It's a lossy compression, and one of the cruelest ironies is that compression artifacts compress poorly. It can get especially bad if you open an edited JPEG and re-save it to a third JPEG. Obviously, at the higher quality settings, you lose less in each step, but you'll still lose something.
The best strategy is to shoot your pictures using Camera raw, which should be either uncompressed or compresses with a lossless scheme, or in an uncompressed format like TIFF. Then, edit them and do all your work with the TIFFs or the raw files. Once you're happy with your edits, then the last step is to export a JPEG. If you want to make a new version of the picture, just go back to the original, make a new version (either from the master or your previously edited version), edit that, and re-export when you're done.
    2. Exporting at a size larger than the original will always result in some image degradation. Think about it this way: if you printed your JPEG on a sheet of rubber and stretched it to three times its size, your picture would get blurrier the more the sheet stretched. The same kind of thing happens in your computer. You're always better off to work on a picture at a bigger size than you'll eventually need it, then make it smaller when you're done editing.
I'm not the only one with this issue, check out this post where other people have the same problem.
    http://www.apertureprofessional.com/showthread.php?t=15206&highlight=resolutiononexport
What they're talking about in those posts is different. They're talking about a resolution setting for printing. For example, suppose you have a picture that's 1500 by 1500 pixels. If you print that at 300 pixels per inch, you can print that picture 5 inches by 5 inches. If you change the resolution to 150 pixels per inch, the same 1500x1500 pixel picture will print out 10 inches by 10 inches. But if you look at the picture at 100% zoom level on screen it should look the same, since the screen has a fixed resolution.
This article might explain it a bit better:

  • Resizing Script Exports in Low Quality

Hello. A while back I found an image resizing script on these forums. Recently it's JPEG outputs have seemed to be on low quality, like 30%. How can I change this script-application to export resized images in a higher quality?
Thanks, and the script is below.
    on open some_items
    repeat with this_item in some_items
    try
    rescaleand_save(thisitem)
    end try
    end repeat
    end open
    to rescaleand_save(thisitem)
    tell application "Image Events"
    launch
    set the target_height to 256
    -- open the image file
    set this_image to open this_item
set typ to this_image's file type
    copy dimensions of this_image to {current_width, current_height}
if current_height is greater than current_width then
    scale this_image to size target_height
    else
    -- figure out new height
    -- y2 = (y1 * x2) / x1
    set the new_width to (current_width * target_height) / current_height
    scale this_image to size new_width
    end if
tell application "Finder" to set new_item to ¬
    (container of this_item as string) & "256_" & (name of this_item)
save this_image in new_item as typ
    end tell
    end rescaleandsave

You can't control the jpeg compression quality using Image Events. You can with iMagine Photo. iMagine Photo is free, and is like a more powerful version of Image Events.
You can read about iMagine Photo here:
    http://www.yvs.eu.com/imagine.html
You can download iMagine Photo from here:
    http://www.yvs.eu.com/downloading.html
    iMagin Photo documentation is here:
    http://www.yvs.eu.com/documentation.html
Follows is a script that will allow you to specify the compression quality while scaling. The quality difference between maximum and lossless is tiny while the file size difference is quite large so I don't normally recommend lossless.
The script does not copy the exif information to the scaled image file, but iMagine Photo can copy the exif information, and or modify certain exif types.
The script replaces the contents of the original file - so beware.
    Kevin
    ---- begin script
    property theScale : 0.5 -- 50% scaling
using terms from application "iMagine Photo"
    property exportQuality : high -- minimum / low / medium / high / maximum / lossless
    end using terms from
    on run
-- this script replaces the contents of the original file
set thisFile to choose file with prompt "Choose an image file to scale: "
    tell application "iMagine Photo"
set thisImporter to import graphic thisFile
if the component error of thisImporter is not equal to 0 then
    close thisImporter
    return
    end if
    tell thisImporter to make exporter with properties {export file type:"JPEG", export file location:thisFile, export compression quality:exportQuality}
    set scale of thisImporter to {theScale, theScale}
    export thisImporter
    close thisImporter
    end tell
    end run

  • Exporting report to seperate PDF files based on a report's Groups

    Hi all,
I have RPT files created in CR 2008 designer. My aim is to use CR.NET SDK with Visual Studio 2010 to create an application that would allow me to load these RPT file(s) to my application which then exports to PDF.
However, the catch is that my RPT files have groupings (each group starts a new page) and I want each group to be printed into separate PDF files, with each filename being the group name.
I have done a sample windows application with the CR viewer loading the RPT file and exporting the entire RPT output to PDF. But is there a way to iterate through the Groups in a report and print them to PDF separately?
    Any suggestions much appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Ludek,
    I am using CRVS2010.
Using the CR designer is not efficient for me to run the report for every group and export each to PDF - this would take a lot of time for a larger report which is the reason for a programmatic solution.
There are third party programs that achieve this. There seems to be a discrepancy if those applications can use the API to burst By Group and you mention that is cannot be done? ([example program that can do this|http://www.milletsoftware.com/Tab3.htm])
    Thanks.

  • Final Cut Pro X -- Export is Low Quality?

I'm wondering about some of the behavior on export with Final Cut Pro X.
While editing my videos, I set preferences to 'use proxy media' to make playback smoother.
However, when I go to export the video as a high-quality 1080p file it's clear that Final Cut is using the proxy files to make this video -- rather defeating the point of exporting at 1080p.  Now, it's not a problem if I switch playback in preferences from 'use proxy media' to 'use high quality media' -- then the export is actually high quality.
My question is this: is final cut supposed to work this way?  Why on Earth would it not default to use the highest quality files when exporting?  It's not a huge deal, but it is annoying when I spend several hours exporting a project only to find out at the end that I accidently left playback on 'proxy media' and have to restart the process.

I've read a few threads on this issue.  Are you using the share feature or exporting to compressor? My understanding is when you export you need to set to original or optimize setting in preference.

  • How to export to acrobat 9 pdf file to acrobat 5 pdf file ?

    Hello,
I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended
while exporting acrobat 9 pdf file to PDF/X( to open it on earlier version)
    it is giving following message
"The document has been saved, however , it could not be converted according to the selected standard profile: Convert to PDF/X.
Please use Preflight with the profile 'Convert to PDF/X' in order to identify those properties of the document which prevent it
from being compliant to this profile."
when opening this converted document to Acrobat 5.0
    it is giving following error
"There was an error while opening this document the file is damaged and could not be repaired.".
    Please help me.
    Thanks

You mention PDF/X. Have you tried to convert it to one of the other Acrobat standards? As I recall, AA5 does not have PDF/X as an option (at least it is not in my list for AA5). That is likely the problem that you are being told to fix. It suggests using PreFlight to fix that issue and then possibly save the PDF to version AA5.

  • Problems Exporting WingDing Symbols to PDF Files

Okay, I have a new one for you.  It's related to this thread: Crystal Reports 8.5 Multi-Selection Formulas
I have a report using 8.5 which contains formulas to display checkboxes.  The checkboxes work correctly (thank you so much Garrett!).  However, when I export the report as a pdf file, the unchecked boxes appear as starts and the X'ed boxes appear as rectangles (unrecognized font).  The formula fields are in WingDing font; the characters are 168 and 253.
I changed the character numbers to 169 and 174, and I changed to font to Times New Roman, just to see if it would convert correctly.  It did, but now the issue is that no other fonts have both the checked or X'ed box as well as an empty check box.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?  How did you resolve it?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Even I have this issue. But I found out that there is bug and its already filed with MS. Please see the url below,

  • Why are the colors (red mostly) in my Press Quality PDF file darker than Original AI file?

    Hi,
I am new to CS5 and have been doing a lot of researching and testing saving AI CS5 files in "Press Quality" PDF format.  When I preview the PDF files in MAC's Preview application (will get Acrobat Reader as well) everything looks nice and crisp, but the colors are a bit on the dark side compared to my original AI files, namely the burgundy.  Needless to say, I am only using CMYK and the resolution has been set to High.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi again John,
Now I am sitting in front of the right computer and I just checked the CMYK profile in AI and it says: North America Prepress 2.  I found the following tutorial on the internet and this guy says that it is best to use a CMYK profile called BEST WORKFLOW which is supposed to accurately display colors across all platforms.  In the tutorial, he also added that if you do not see this profile listed then you should Load (directly from the CMYK profile window) it from your computer.  However, I was unable to locate this profile on my MAC and since this tutorial is based on AI CS2, I am unsure if I can use it.
