Keynote file names

How can I save an existing keynote presentation under a new name? The option of “save as” is not available when you open an old keynote and change it and want to save it under a new file name. What to do? Thanks

Use the Finder to browse to the folder containing the file and change its name by highlighting it and overwriting.

  • Emailing Keynote files

    Hi
I cant email my keynote files to a college overseas. When I attach the file it is not attaching the Package contents but just the keynote file name. I can of course export to powerpoint but this never seem to work seamlessly without text realigning on serveral pages.
Is there some way I should attach the file with the package contents?
    Thanks for your help

    Welcome to the discussions,Selwyn.
Since all iWork files (and many other files on the Mac) are packages, you need to Archive them before emailing as the "internet" will see these files as folders otherwise. Just Right-Click or Control-Click on the file's icon and choose *Create Archive of "filename"*

With your presentation open, click on each movie element and read the name in the Metrics Inspector > File Info.

  • I cannot derive a file name that will let me export my Keynote file as a PDF.  I understand the 31 character limit, but what other secret niceties must I observe?

Hmmmm . . . . I used to be good at this, back in the day . . . OK:  I take a KN file and attempt to export as pdf for later upload to SlideShare servers, which can't take straight KN submissions anymore.  I keep my file names under 31 characters, as prompted.  But . . . I keep getting a NoNo that reads along these lines:
"Cannot export "table of contents" as 'table of contents'".
I've tried various fiddly things with file names but without success.  I feel like the mosquito looking for the tiny tear in the screen she just knows is there somewhere!  (I was three semesters into an entymology major before I got the word that my fascination with word derivations was doomed to be frustrated.)
Am I Maverick bitten or just way too old to be messing around with stuff like this?

    Hi,
According to your description, you might want to retrieve the string “2014_05” from the file name.
I would suggest you create a SharePoint Designer workflow and implement your logic of handling the filename.
In SharePoint Designer 2010, there are already some useful utility workflow actions which can enable users to deal with the various requirements come from the business scenarios.
For the string handling, you can consider to use the

  • Error message: "Can't open file "[File path, file name].key"

If I attempt to open any Keynote files, I now get this error message.
"Can't open file "[File path: file name].key"
To clarify, the text in the square brackets above would be the file path and then the file name.
The file then will appear on the screen, but is unresponsive to any clicks or menu commands.
The files will open successfully on other Macs, so they aren't corrupt.
Also - I've just checked, and opening Keynote and trying to create a new presentation leads to the same problem: All screen menus / buttons are dead - all I can do is drag the window around the screen.
I've tried to reinstall Keynote, but this hasn't resolved the problem.
Is there some corrupt preference file (or similar) that I need to get rid of? Is there an easy way to do a complete uninstall of Keynote so I can try another install? Or is this a symptom of something else?
    All ideas gratefully appreciated!

All the issues I describe in my questions around this time re: Keynote were actually symptoms of a soon-to-die laptop. The Hard Disc was corrupting, and Keynote was the first application to be affected.

  • Can't open Keynote files on my Mac - but they open fine on other Macs

+I had this query in the Keynote 8 section, but was getting no replies - so I'm posting it here too.+
If I attempt to open any Keynote files, I now get this error message.
    "Can't open file "+File path: file name+.key"
To clarify, the text in italics above shows the actual file's file path and name.
The file will then will appear on screen, but is unresponsive to any clicks or menu commands.
The files will open successfully on other Macs, so they aren't corrupt.
The same applies when creating a new file from Keynote: All screen menus / buttons are dead - all I can do is drag the main window around the screen.
I've tried to reinstall Keynote, but this hasn't resolved the problem. I've checked that I'm running the latest version (4.04 of Keynote 8) - and I have nearly 12gb free on my hard disc. I've also thrown out any Keynote related files I could find in library or preferences in case some application settings had been corrupted. (Having said that, I don't know if I caught them all - as I just used Spotlight to find files with the name Keynote.)
Are there specific preference / system files that I should look for and dump? Is there an easy way to do a complete uninstall of Keynote so I can try another install? Or is this a symptom of something else?
    All ideas gratefully appreciated!

  • When saving a File OS Is Creating Multiple Folders With The Same File Name

Not sure what I changed but, now when I save a any file (ppt. word, Keynote,Pages e.g.,) to the desktop or any other location the OS will also create multiple file folders with the same file name as the file I'm saving. Inside the folders are what appears to be files locating the saved files. What can I do to fix this problem?
    I'm using the 10.7.2 version

It looks like a finder bug. To replicate, I surf to any website, I right-click on a jpg image, select "Save Image As" and in the window that pops up I type in the filename "000.jpg", I select the folder Pictures, and click on Save.
BTW, I don't know why, but the file was saved only as "000" without the file extension ".jpg". Does anybody know why?
the extension is simply hidden. go to the get info panel for the file and uncheck the option to hide the extension.
Then I surf to another image, and again I save it as "000.jpg" and now it asks me if I want to replace the existing filename, although the existing one is "000" and I try to save as "000.jpg", so I say yes, and then magically the file is saved with the full filename including the extension "000.jpg"
When I did it a couple of times, always saving image as "000.jpg" from various sources, I ended up with two distinct files named "000" and both in the same folder Pictures.
    Please advise.
it sounds to me like you saved one file as 000.jpg and the other and 000.jpg.jpg.
check the info panels for the files for full names to verify if this is the case.

  • Possible to view Keynote files / presentations as read only ?

Keynote has been a wonderful study tool: I can tap the screen on my iPad2 or iPhone4, and the next bit of information appears (using the "builds" effects to make new info appear, eg: answers to questions). It's just like flash cards, but on an Apple mobile device.  However, the temptation is always there to keep editing the text (ie: cut/copy-paste, and break up more paragraphs into question-answer format).
With the recent software upgrades (including a Keynote upgrade), is there now a way to make Keynote files "read-only," once they're on an iPad2 or iPhone4?  Last year I tried to make my files "read-only" on my Mac desktop, but when I downloaded them onto my iPad2, they were still editable.
Or, does anybody know of any other app or program that can display Keynote on an iPad, with all its "builds" and effects, but in a read-only format so that it can't be edited in the iPad/iPhone?

    Hi ,
Please try with the following code in the feeder class in GET_DATA method( after  ct_data is assigned ) and check if it works.
       field-SYMBOLS: <fs_field> like line of CT_FIELD_USAGE.
       loop at CT_FIELD_USAGE ASSIGNING <FS_FIELD>.
         case <FS_FIELD>-NAME.
         when 'FIELD_NAME'.
             <FS_FIELD>-READ_ONLY = 'X'.
         ENDCASE.

  • How can I insert the file name automatically on all pages?

I would like that on all pages of my keynote presentations the file name is inserted automatically in a footer as eg in EXCEL and Word.

Oh yeah! Very similar to that one is Print Window. I use it all the time.
    http://www.printwindowapp.com
It costs $20 if you want all the extra features the free version doesn't have. But I've always used the free version. Nothing in the paid version I need.

No automated way, although you could add a textbox to the bottom of your master slide(s)

  • Can I include the file names of images in the image itself?

*How can I get the file names of images on each image (without entering them by hand)?*
(I am bring 250 images into a Keynote document, with each image on its own slide. I want to have the file names of the images shown on each slide or image. This doesn't need to look nice.)
(If I can't do this in Aperture, I also have Photoshop Elements. Is there a way to do that in Elements?)

You can't do this directly via Ap3. There are plug in's i believe that make it possible. Maybe someone knows more? Allan

  • Undo changes in closed (duplicated) Keynote file

I opened a Keynote presentation I prepared earlier to use as a starting point for a new presentation. I deleted most of the slides, duplicated it (the rest of the world calls this Save As) into a new file, and closed the original file. I noticed it didn't prompt me to save my changes, which set off alarms in my head...I immediately reopened the original file and the slides were still deleted. Gone. I never saved those changes!!
There's no state to undo in the duplicated presentation, and the original presentation doesn't have any state to undo because I just reopened it. I'm pretty sure I have a backup, but....***?? Any way to undo the deletion?
And for everyone else....be *very* *careful* about the Duplicate functionality, apparently it saves over the existing file when it makes the new file. No other software I've ever used does this, and I'm pretty sure Keynote never did this before either. I think the Duplicate (instead of Save As) functionality was introduced in the last version or two of OSX.

I opened a Keynote presentation I prepared earlier to use as a starting point for a new presentation.
When doing this in future; open the existing presentation and immediately save as a new file:
press the option key then File > Save As and type in a new file name.

  • Missing fonts warning when opening a Keynote file

I'm using Keynote 2.0.2 on a Mini Mac. Having searched for an answer to the ubiquitous "Missing Font" problem when opening a Keynote file, I was wondering if upgrading to the latest version would solve this problem. Unless it does, we would have to think twice about upgrading the software. A lot of users seem to have the problem with version 3 too. Does anyone have a solution to this? The presentation runs perfectly well, but the warning message is annoying and doesn't look nice when presenting to clients. HELP!
1.42 GHz Mac Mini PPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB DDR SDRAM

I've experience this same problem multiple times. There is a way to get rid of the troublesome font, thereby getting rid of the annoying message. I may be glossing over a step or two, but it goes something like this:
    (1) In the Finder, right click on the Keynote file and select "Show Package Contents"
(2)Locate the index.apxl.gz file and open it. The file exands -- then open the index.apxl file with Textedit (or Word). Throw away the gz file.
    (3) Do a search and replace -- find all instances of the troublesome font name and replace it with a non-troublesome font name, such as GillSans
    (4) Close the text file.
Opening the Keynote file should now proceed normally. Note: Better practice this on a dummy file until you are sure everything works. I imagine that if you muck up the index file that the orignial Keynote file might be toast!

  • Export Keynote files as pdf

I've just updated Keynote 5 1 1. When I export a keynote file as PDF I get the PDF slides in wich the date of creation showed. how can I avoid this feature?

I can't remember if this is possible or not as I don't have a Mac available to check, but…
You can add a folder to the PDF Services menu by adding an alias to your Dropbox folder in the PDF Services folder in your Library. That folder will show up in the PDF popup menu in the print dialog.
Then, try to create an Application Shortcut with the name that shows up in the PDF popup menu.
You'd then have to Cmd-P to bring up the dialog, then type the shortcut you made for the PDF menu item.
The first part has worked in the past, but I'm not sure where the PDF Services are stored in Mavericks.
The second part, creating the shortcut to the PDF Services menu, I only think works. I vaguely remember reading that it can be done, but as I stated earlier, I don't have a Mac available right now to verify.
As an alternative, you might be able to create an Automator Service that gets the selected message, converts it to pdf, and saves it into your Dropbox folder. Without a Mac, I don't think I can effectively describe how to build that. If you haven't got this solved in the next couple of weeks, I might be able to work out the Automator method.

  • Uploading a Keynote file using iTunes 11.1.12

I'm using iTunes 11.1.12 for a PC and I need to upload a keynote file. In iTunes I don't see a place to upload or file share. This feature existed in the last version. Can anyone help?

typically to call an Escmd from a bat file you would use the syntax
    Esscmd filename
where file name is the path and file name that contains the Esscmd commands.
Two warnings depending on the version you are on
    1. You may need to include the full path to Esscmd or change directories to where it lives (like you did)
    2. In some versions, the environment variables are not set so insted of calling Esscmd directly, in the bin directory on the server(and client), there is a startEsscmd.cmd that you would run instead. The syntax would be similar startEsscmd filename
    An example:
    Esscmd "c:\scripts\Essbase\myapp\MyEsscmd.ess"
