Keynote for Digital Signage?

Hmm...? I thought that the new Keynote provided some means of pulling in RSS feeds. Was that a dream? Or perhaps wishful thinking with respect to the Web View feature?
Our goal is to use Keynote to provide Digital Signage support for an education technology conference we host at Arizona State University in the Spring (http://mec.asu.edu). We'd like to provide updates and information and such to attendees. Keynote would be nice, and the ability to pull in dynamic RSS info would be fantastic.
Any ideas on how this might be accomplished?
Thanks.

I have a plasma screen in our school lobby connected to a MacMini. I wanted to use Keynote to display weather station data kiosk style. One of the Keynote slides would include a web view of the weather station webpage (not exactly RSS, but a related problem that has been discussed widely online). Unfortunately, web views do not update once presentation mode is started. Here's the work around:
1. Use Automator to create an app that (1) stops current presentation & (2) immediately starts it again
2. Using CronniX, create a crontab entry that launches the App created above at a given interval
3. Play the presentation, and walk away.
My attempts at scripting a "stop/start" were unstable, but this has been running smoothly in our lobby for a week. The only drawback is the second-long "blip" followed by the show restarting at first slide, but it's a minimal distraction in this particular environment.

  • Best practices for exporting for digital signage?

I am exporting video clips to be displayed in a PC-based digital signage system. My video was shot in 1080i60, and I imported and edited the footage using HDV sequence settings. My final export size needs to be 1920 x 1080.
I have tried a couple of export strategies (export using Quicktime conversion) and just haven't been happy with how the video clips look on the PC system -- way too much interlacing. When I realized that the HDV codec is not cross platform, I started taking the additional step of opening and re-saving the .mov file in Quicktime. Now I'm fiddling around with Compressor, just to add more complications. I have tried so many different settings and codecs that I have completely lost my way! Can anyone recommend a workflow for this situation?
I am using FCP6 and Compressor 3 on an iMac OS 10.5.8.
    Thanks for any help.

I still see interlacing on the H.264 export that I don't see when I export the sequence as HDV. Of course, I can't get the HDV export to play on a PC.
I'm trying to read between all of the lines here...I'm going to assume there is a fundamental lack of understanding about what interlacing is and how you're going to remove it. The display either handles interlaced or progressive video files; one or the other. Let's assume it's progressive only. Since you shot interlaced, you must decide how you're going to remove the interlacing; you either throw away one filed or your combine them. If you combine them, you will see combed edges on anything that moves horizontally because every other line of pixels was captured 1/60th of a second later in time. If you throw away one field, you might as well have shot 720.
Where do you want o make this compromise?

  • Workflow for exporting wmv for digital signage?

I am working with 1080i60 HD footage (HDV preset and sequence settings) in Final Cut Pro 6. I need to export sequences to be displayed on a Windows 7 machine running a digital signage system. The digital signage software prefers .wmv format.
I have purchased Flip4Mac WMV Studio Pro HD so I can export my HD footage and have a .wmv format video of comparable quality to feed through the digital signage software. I am baffled by all the settings and combinations -- CBR versus VBR; one pass versus two pass; various sizes and data rates. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, does it make a difference if I export via Quicktime Conversion, or use Compressor?
    Thanks.

Don't think it matters in terms of quality whether you export using quicktime conversion from within fcp or you use compressor, but compressor will allow you to customize and save your settings as a preset and/or a droplet which may make things easier.  Theoretically you will get a more efficient encode using multiple pass variable bit rate encode as the output will be adjusted according to the complexity of the images.  However, theory and practice are 2 different things and the only way to really see what your effect this parameters will have on your output is to do some tests.    More than likely your displays will be progressive, so fooling with deinterlacing either in fcp or in compressor may be a good idea.    Also, bitrate is going to effect how smoothly your wmv's play on the display system.  Be sure and test this on your display system with what ever programs, etc will be running at the same time and hopefully on hardware that will match what will be in position for end use.  You will probably make your clients a little crazy with questions and testing unless of course they've had some unfortunate experiences in the past, in which case they'll be appreciative right from the start.

  • Newbie: Flash for digital Signage Apps?

I'm a newbie in Adobe Flash development. I need to develop a
digital signage application, and was asking myself if Adobe Flash
would be a good candidate for this kind of application? Or are
there better options? I really want to develop the application and
    not buying some existing app.
    Thanks for all info.

You can Digital Sign a Flash Projector file using Jugglor.

  • License term for Digital Signage

  • IBooks Author v. Keynote for digital timeline--URGENT

I have been working on a digital timeline project that will be viewed on an ipad in a museum that a visitor can scroll through and also see on a large screen above the kiosk. I have gone back and forth on the best application to use for this project and had decided on Keynote. However, there are some limitations that I'm concerned about and am now wondering if iBooks Author would be the better choice.
    General design elements of timeline:
background image on each page (created in PS)
text boxes for each event, some with images
The basic requirements for this timeline:
being able to scroll forward and backward through five historical periods (used the "push" animation in Keynote)
a navigation bar at the bottom of each page where a viewer can jump to any of the five periods
being able to select an event for a "pop-up" screen with a larger version of the image and extended text description
I have been able to accomplish most of this with Keynote. However, here are the problems I've encountered:
Using animation effects for the "pop-up" screen won't allow a viewer to skip this option since as you click through, it triggers the action
My work-around solution (going to a new slide to "fake a pop-up window") yields a pretty obvious powerpoint--looking transition
When you scroll backwards, the slide "push" transition doesn't work. The basic way you scroll through pages in ibooks is actually preferable to slide transitions
I really have to resolve this as soon as possible so that I can complete the entire timeline. So far, I have worked on one section to figure out a method. Any advice about which software to use would be very very appreciated. At the moment, I am leaning toward switching to iBooks Author but I want to make sure it can do what I need it to do.
    Thanks so much

    Hi,
i have produced something similar in the past.
whilst my answer is not to use either application you have mentioned, i must urge you to look at "Easy Timeline 3D"
this really does give an awesome professional looking product that is simple to create.  search the app store or look at their website for more info:
    http://www.beedocs.com
i do not work for them in anyway, but was really impressed with thier product ( it was this product, and its non availability on anything other than MAC that pushed me to ditch teh PC...!)
    hope this  helps

  • Mac Mini for Digital Signage?

I need to bring digital text and video on a vertical large plasma or lcd screen at least 42".
It should be text on top video in the bottom.
Is the Mac Mini output compatible with lets say a Sony PFM42X1/S?
Is the DVI output of the Mac Mini compatible with the DVI-D input of the Sony TV? Will the display be very sharp and clear?
I will turn the TV 90 degrees to a horizontal position? Is there a way the Mac Mini can go along with this??
And last not least, what software would be best to display the text and the video images simultanously?
Lots of questions, but I hope somebody of you has already done this and will be able to tell me if it works well or has any problems.
    Thanks

  • FMS & Flash Player for digital signage

    Hello,
Maybe here I will find the answer.
I would like to use FMS3 together with Flash Player for
displaying advertisement content and/or live stream movies
(copyrighted by my company) in company's points of sales. Of course
I need to buy FMS license.
But is such a usage of Flash Player legal? I mean - should I
obtain any license for Flash Player to display some ads in point of
sales on public displays? Or is Flash Player 100% free for
    commercial use?

Thank, I think the same, but what I actually afraid is that
after sucessfull installations I will have to pay a penalty or
something. For codecs license it's ok. Flash Player itself is a
    problem.

  • Digital signage application

I'd like to know if Strobe could be a good choice for digital signage application.
I'd like to know in particular if:
    - I need full screen application. Can I use Strobe in full screen mode (monitor HD 1920-1080) inside a web page.
Also in Portrait and landscape way ?
    - can I overlay text over video (not ads like youtube ads but price o other words over a exact point of the video for the exact duration of 1 video and change text for the following video in playlist ?
    Playlist
1° playlist video -> 1° overlay text in a exact poit of the video
2° playlist video -> 2° (different from 1° and in different position)
Is this possible and simple ?
    - can I manage playlist in advanced mode
(I'd like to create playlist in dynamic way, with languages like php fetching data from DB)
    Thank you in advance

    Hi,
    - I need full screen application. Can I use Strobe in full screen mode (monitor HD 1920-1080) inside a web page.
Also in Portrait and landscape way ?
SVE: OSMF supports fullscreen, since flash supports it. Switching from landscape to portrait was not tested on monitors, but you should be able to control this from the video player, by adding some code.
    - can I overlay text over video (not ads like youtube ads but price o other words over a exact point of the video for the exact duration of 1 video and change text for the following video in playlist ?
SVE : Yes - there are captioning or text layout examples in the osmf code samples
    Playlist
1° playlist video -> 1° overlay text in a exact poit of the video  2° playlist video -> 2° (different from 1° and in different position)  ...
Is this possible and simple ?
    - can I manage playlist in advanced mode  (I'd like to create playlist in dynamic way, with languages like php fetching data from DB)
SVE: Possible, but not very simple. Please look at the Strobe media playback  JS API examples and the playlist feature

  • Keynote to play as a screensaver/personal digital signage?

I want to be able to have a Keynote slideshow that I've created for our family play on the iMac in our Family Room much like a screensaver. I want to keep this updated with pictures, upcoming events, reminders, etc. Almost like a family or personal digital signage display. Is there a way to either export a Keynote slideshow, or trigger the file to play as a screensaver when the machine is not active (barring launching the file itself?). I can't seem to find anything on this.

Interesting idea. I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to play with that. Of course, I'll lose any transitions of effects.
I had another idea too...one thing I did notice, is that in the Inspector, under document, there is a checkbox for "Restart show if Idle for XX". So I thought what if I have it set to loop, and to start as soon as the document is launched, then if anyone needed to use the iMac, they could just hit escape, do what they needed to, and that the show would resume after that XX amount of idle time. But, unless I'm not understanding it correctly, it doesnt seem to be restarting the show even when that box is checked? If it would do that...that could be the trick. Almost as good as having it as a screensaver, except that the file would need to be launched.?? Thoughts?

  • LDAP integragtion for DMM using Digital Signage

We are in the process of investigating Active Directory via LDAP.  I have seen documentation for the Video Portal but not much on the Digital Signage. First does anyone have any experience with this and its limitations or gotcha's?
The real question that has been asked of me from our security organization is regarding password change requirements.  That is when the AD User ID password changes, does the DMM for that same User ID password change?  If not is there any way to do this?
    SLemaux

    Hi.
You might find helpful information about these topics in the "Configuring Authentication Settings" section of the DMM 5.1 user guide on Cisco.com. Within that larger section, I think you'll find the synchronization references to be of particular interest.

  • Smart content - like digital signage??

Is there any way to embed live RSS feeds into a Keynote slideshow? Also - what about things like countdown timers, weather, etc? I have a presentation that I have set to run on our iMac in the Family Room, and my hope is to use it as a type of digital signage for the family... things like reminders, photos, weekend to do's, upcoming events, priorities, etc is what I use it for now....and it's great! I want to take it to the next level with some smarter content though. Any thoughts?

Hello GaryFL!, Same issue here - we are running a number of digital displays across the building, using Keynote, and would like to incorporate an RSS feed that we produce anyway. If you've had any ideas about this in the meantime, I'd be pleased to hear! Gerhard

  • Digital Signage & RSS feeds

    Hi all
I'm doing some tests with Cisco Digital Signage, more specifically with the Digital Media Designer and RSS feeds.
When I create a so called Box and link a RSS Ticker to that box, I cannot change the font size. The text is to big, and only one line at a time appears. Is it possible to change the font size (and type), and to show a whole a whole item of the subscribed feed in stead of word by word (yes, if the box is not full screen, sometimes only one word at a time is visible...)?
For your info: I'm using DMM version 1.1
    Many thanks in advance.

Believe me, I understand your frustration. I don't think the DMP firmware will help. We were very frustrated with the DMD and its limitations also. I don't think you will get more than a single line of a RSS feed. Try making the box smaller see if the font size adjusts when deployed.
Truthfully this was the first iteration of the DMD so its still very clunky in its first release. In late June the 5.0 version is due to be released. I understand that there is going to be a much needed re-design of the DMM GUI and the DMD will also see some improvements. Hopefully this issue will be addressed.
FYI...We are not using the DMD at this time because of issues just like what you have described. We got very frustrated with it and gave up. We are still building Sign apps for Cisco DMPs with HTML. The DMD was just to painfull.

  • Exporting to Digital Signage

I am using Captivate 3 to create training sessions and merge
Power Point slides. After Publishing, I upload the .swf file into a
product called Inlighten(digital signage company). The Ibox Manager
software accepts .swf files. The file is placed on a "panel" then
plays on our display units. Inlighten is stating that the .swf file
has the movie placed in the "Final Frame" and only plays for a
brief moment then "times out". Is there a way to spread the movie
out throughout all the frames??? Do I have a setting wrong in
    Captivate?

Actually, it sounds like an issue with the Inlightens
    software.
Two thoughts to make sure your end of things is as covered as
    possible:
    1) Make sure you publish your Captivate movie to the
lowest-possible version of Flash Player (in the Publish dialog).
There may be a compatibility issue between the Flash Player version
Inlightens uses and the version you're publishing to.
    2) For standalone SWFs, make sure that borders are turned OFF
    in the Skin menu.
Beyond that, if it works fine in the web browser, then it's
probably not an issue with the Captivate SWF itself.
    Cheers,
    John

  • Digital signage or Sling box

I am looking for a replacement for the current setup we have in the breakroom. We have a small tower that is used to stream cable tv from the cable box, as well as display some information that is constantly updating from the local network (lunch break times, if there is a call waiting, the weather, etc.). I have been asked to look into a replacement for this setup, with a note that digital signage with TV capabilities would be fine. I found the SlingBox and fell in love, but it is a slight overkill as far as what we need. It is $200 bucks. Is there any other options you guys can think of?
