Keynote: Going Back on step instead of to beginning of slide...

When I am doing a presentation I want to be able to go 'back' one animation... right now 'back' goes to the beginning of the slide. My PowerPoint user friends are making fun of me.
Is there a way to change this -- this is a major problem with Keynote if you use multi-stage slides with complex animations.
