Keynote has frozen opening a document

keynote seems to be struggling with a basic 7 slide presentation. I am very disappointed with this application, and unless Apple can sort this for me will definately be NOT recommending Ipad for anyone serious about using Ipad in business.

Don't get discouraged there just seems there just something amiss. Open keynote on the iPad. Pick a template add a few more slides and try to just play that with nothing added to the slides. If that palys ok, add texts to each slide. If the plays ok, add a photo to each slide... If that plays your keynote that you made the other day may have gotten corrupted, somehow.
Keynotes presentations can and do become corrupted. It is best to make and save your keynote as you build it, save multiple copies as you go along. I always make two copies of the finished keynote.

Try this repair for Keynote 6.2, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

empty the trash: Finder > Empty Trash

Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.
Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions

when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

Usually the SBBOD only affects the one application. Just find somewhere not Pages to click to change the focus. The Desktop is usually OK. Or use command Tab to switch to another App. Then you can skirt around the Pages window to get to the Apple menu where you can choose Force Quit.
You will lose your currently open documents.
We can have no idea why this is happening for the very simple reason you have told us absolutely nothing about what you are running or did, other than it is a Macbook Air and those of us capable of projecting ourselves through time and space to peer over your shoulder, are currently off on tea break.
If you can not get out of Pages and the SBBOD, hold down the power button until the System shuts itself down.

I have Keynote '09 and have used it many times. Today I started another Keynote document, stopped for a while, came back to continue, and received, "You need a newer version of Keynote to open this document." ?? Stumped.

IOS Pages 2.0 and 2.1 implement an entirely incompatible document format with Pages ’09 v4.3. It cannot open them, and you are then prompted to update to Pages v5+ which is compatible with your IOS Pages.
Unfortunately, updating to Pages v5+ is a bad thing, as it is a brand new application that has omitted over 90+ features from Pages ’09 v4.3. When you update to Pages v5+, it will move your old still functional version of the earlier Pages into /Applications/iWork. Aside from all the missing functionality, Pages v5+ will likely damage older documents that depend on specific Pages ’09 v4.3 features (including AppleScript and custom Templates).
Oh, by the way, the older and new Pages documents have the same filename extension (.pages) making document organization difficult without applying different tag colors to old and new documents.
We are recommending that users remain on their earlier Pages version. You may have to export documents from IOS Pages as Word .docx to avoid the OS X Pages update notice.

If you click outside a Word document, is the cursor movement normal? And if you select Force Quit does the tag next to Word say "Not Responding"?
I'm afraid that the only way to get out of your predicament is to Force Quit Word. If you had auto-save on, you may or may not be able to recover some of your documents. I sometimes have up to 12 Word documents or so loaded at one time, so your problem shouldn't be put down to you having multiple documents open.
Sorry that I couldn't really help - I just don't see any way of getting out of your predicament. You MAY want to try pressing the command and period keys at the same time, but I really don't think that will stop anything.

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

Can you open Reader by itself? If so, check if disabling Protected Mode improves the situation [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

Maybe the document is corrupted. Can you open other Pages documents? Preview may open it. Right click (or control click) on the document in Finder and Open With > Preview.
If that works, Edit > Select All, Edit > Copy. Then paste into a blank Pages document. Formatting may be messed up, but you will have editable text. Then Save (with a different name), close and see if you can open the new document.

Can't open NEW Pages 5, Keynote 6 or Numbers 3 documents

Some time after updating to the newest version of Pages, Numbers and Keynote my Mac stopped being able to open new, blank documents or templates in these apps. The apps all just hang. I have to force quit them. Existing documents open. I just can't start new documents. I threw all 3 apps in the trash and emptied, then re-installed from the App Store; same thing. I re-installed iWork '09 and everything works as expected. I then updated the iWork '09 apps from the App Store to the current versions. Back to the problem. On a separate but possibly related topic, Preview will not open any files. It hangs similarly and must be force quit. Fixed disk permissions in Disk Utility. No change. What could possibly be preventing the apps from opening new documents?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

You can add the icon of the missing Pages on your Dock or open Pages from the Apple menu > Recent Items list.
Or you can archive Pages 5 so that it doesn't automatically open.
If you are unhappy about this review/rate Pages 5 in the App Store.

HT5994 Why does the Keynote I am using require an upgrade the OS AND Keynote to open a document I created in this version???

I am using OSX 10.9.5, and Keynote 6.2.2 running on it.
Now it says that to open a document Icreated in that version of keynote on that system, I need to upgrade the OS AND Keynote. This is outrageous!
I want to take my time upgrading the OS, and Keynote. First, whenever I do an OS upgrade, some software I ely on doesn't work anymore.
Also, NONE of the new features in the OS, or Keynote are things that I want.
How does one avoid this?

I don't believe it will open a Word document, but Writepad allows for handwritten conversion of notes to text and then to email. Might help you some of the way...

Open a document made in Creative Suite 6 because it is saved as InDesign, CC2014 even though my trial has expired before I saved this doc.

2 - as far as I know, you will not be able to open a newer file in an older InDesign program... but, see #1 above

If you have not done so remove any files relating to iWork and Keynote and reinstall iWork
files that must go are:
the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications;
the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support
the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library >

How to get the times a document has been opened

Does somebody know if exists any kind of property attached to documents that can tell who many times a document has been opened? Or there is a way to know this in a different way?
