Keynote movies stutter badly once exported to QuickTime

My Keynote presentation features a 2 minute movie. When I export the presentation to QuickTime, although the slides work fine, the movie stutters badly. To be specific, the movie audio is fine, but the visuals stutter badly.
Any workaround for this? Thanks!

I've been having problems in iMovie and Quicktime both. Whenever I used a song from iTunes in an iMovie, I would get stuttered playback. Many others experienced problems with stuttering video when they had extracted audio. Your particular problem could be many things. It could be your graphics card is too small to handle this. If you are running OS X tiger and have virex installed, then virex is using most of your CPU processing power (Do a search on Tiger and Virex to get the uninstaller). Finally you could be having problems with quicktime 7.0.3. If that is the case, then you can just reinstall 7.0.1 and everything should work fine. Or it could be something else. Hope some of this helps.
Thanks,
Clint

  • Keynote 08 will not finish export to quicktime, or share with any apps

    I have a presentation that I am using a smartbuild (160 photos) that will not finish exporting to quicktime, or share with youtube or iweb/idvd, etc. It saved once out of twenty attempts. It freezes up around the last photo in the smartbuild then quits unexpectedly. Any tips?

    The other work around that I've found is to tell it "send to iDVD" but then quit iDVD when it pops that up. You'll end up with just the quicktime file it created.
    What I noticed is that when a "quicktime export" plays in QT, it has a fps rate of like 7 or 8 or even 13 but the dynamic "playing fps" goes up to 30 during transitions and back to 0 when there isn't a transition. At least with the iDVD cheat you end up with 24 fps. That may work for some people, that is film rate, but I'm in need of NTSC DV 29.97. So I import it into Final Cut Express, and do an export conversion.
    I don't use audio, so I don't know how that would work in this cheat, but since your voiceover (I'm guessing based on trying to put music to my slides) is one entire track, you can add that in FCE before that export and line it up there.
    If anyone else has suggestions to get a 29.97 export correct with the "export to quicktime", I'd love to hear it. This cheat takes too long for my work.

  • How do I Ensure that your MOV/MP4 video is exported through QuickTime conversion?

    I have a YouTube channel. I use Sony Vegas to render my mp4 projects, but my PC uses QuickTime & I'm VERY unfamiliar with it and/or how it works, how to access it. When I record a mp4 video, QuickTime needs to be involved, but I'm unsure how to even check or know where to go, to find out how to do that. I need ensure my mp4 video is exported through QuickTime conversion. I have no idea what it even means? Does anyone out there happen to have the knowledge I would need to check if in fact the video is being exported through QuickTime conversion? If so, I WOULD FOREVER BE IN DEBT TO YOU! I hope someone can help me figure this problem out. Thanks for taking the time to view my question, and if anyone does know, I'd greatly accept your advice! Thank you very much again!

    Hello,
    You can do this:  Set up a slow pulse train for CTR0 (1Hz).  Set up a continuous digital channel read for Port 0 Line 0 on your card.  Hook up CTR0 output (pin 5) to P0.0 (pin 10).  Start your program to do the counter output pulse train and continuous read.  You should see your digital line transition from high to low over time.  The examples you can use to set this up are Gen Dig Pulse Train-Continuous.vi and Cont Read Dig Chan-Int Clk.vi.  For Cont Read Dig Chan-Int Clk.vi, remove the DAQmx Timing VI to make it software timed, and connect the task handle and error wires accordingly. They can be ran from separate VI's as they don't use the same resources.
    To be exact on the verbage used, you can perform a self-test on the device by right clicking the device in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and select Self-Test.  As for testing the device manually, go with what I described above.

  • How to prevent keynote from freezing/crashing while exporting to quicktime?

    Keynote freezes/crashes every time while exporting a file as a QuickTime file. Is this a bug or something with the size of the file? It's a 7.6MB file.
    Should I re-install keynote? I have it on 2 machines and it does the same thing on both.

    MayaFrank:
    I have Keynote 6.1 and I have noticed it will allow me to export once.  If I want to export again, I must quit and restart Keynote.  Not sure why, but it seems to "fix" the problem.

  • Cannot load movie with subtitles and export in QuickTime 10 / Os X Lion

    Since Os X Lion, when trying to load a movie (DivX) in QuickTime 10 at the same time that the related subtitles file (.srt) is in the same folder as the movie, QT 10 suggests to use QT 7. QT 10 cannot load the movie with subtitles (in Snow Leopard everything was OK). Q& 7 is useless too because it cannot export movies to another format.
    Anybody has a solution for this? Thanks for your help!

    I do this because Perian don't work with QT10 on Mac OS X Lion:
    -Try to open .avi movie with QT 10;
    -OS X ask you to open on QT 7;
    -Donwload QT 7 and install it. It will be installed on "Utilities";
    -Download Perian but don't install it;
    -Mount Perian, and click "Show Package Contents"
    -Go to "Contents"->"Resources"->"Components"->"CoreAudio" and copy to Desktop "A52Codec.zip" and unzip it;
    -Go to"Contents"->"Resources"->"Components" and copy to Desktop "Perian.zip" and unzip it;
    -Go to "Contents"->"Resources"->"Components"->"CoreAudio"->Quicktime" and copy to Desktop "AC3MovieImport.zip" and unzip it;
    -Then copy all packages with ".component" extention to /Library/Quicktime/;
    -Then you can run all movies on QT 7.
    Or,
    -Install MPlayerX;
    Or,
    -Install VLC;
    Or,

  • Export to Quicktime/Movie to MPEG-4 Quality Much Worse with Snow Leopard?

    I just tried exporting an HD movie from iMovie using Export to Quicktime - Movie to MPEG-4 for the first time since upgrading to Snow Leopard and besides taking forever to export, the quality at the same settings I've used before is terrible. There's terrible macroblocking even on relatively slow moving scenes. I've exported several movies using the same workflow previously to upgrading and the video was perfect.
    I use mpeg-4, H.264 encoding, 4096 bit rate, 1920x1080 HD resolution, key frame every 15 frames. It's definitely a change in the encoder as just sharing to the Media Browser results in expected quality.
    As a test, I tried upping the bitrate to 5120 but it didn't help with the macroblocking.
    Anyone with similar problems and/or a solution?

    I've actually started noticing more artifacts using the Share to Media Browser quicktime presets. The movies that are created don't seem to be as high quality as ones I've created before. It's almost like quicktime is missing keyframes or something and then artifacting. It's not consistent. I've got one mobile formatted movie where it artifacts badly in the first minute and then not at all afterwards. It's kind of frustrating.

  • Exporting using Quicktime - PC Users can't see

    I have created several movies that I am exporting using Quicktime. They are generally large files - 300MB or so. Mac users can see them fine - only some PC users can see them and generally that is using Firefox. Any suggestions on how/what to do? These movies are located on a school server (old) but I do not believe that is the issue..
    Many thanks.....

  • Movie within Keynote, export to quicktime transition delay

    I have a very strange problem I can't seem to figure out. I create a Keynote presentation every week that is used to show our announcements at our church. I create the keynote with automatic advancement, then export it to a quicktime movie (which is then put on an iPod and used to project at church). It wall works very well and I have used this for several years. Here's my problem:
    I inserted a movie into a slide in Keynote, the movie is about 30 seconds long and I am playing about 10 to 15 seconds of it. I then have the slide transition to another slide. When I play the keynote it all seems to work great - however, when I export the movie via quicktime, it plays through the movie then hangs for 10 seconds or so at the end of the movie before making the transition to the next slide. It is apparently "stuck" for that time. I have played around with every setting I could find to see if I could get it to work right but nothing changed this behavior. I tried shortening the movie length under the quicktime tab in the inspector, changing the delay in the slide tab in the inspector, nothing.
    To make matters worse I apparently can't just cut out the 10 seconds of offending material via quicktime pro as it somehow only registers by the slide number and I cannot get the index arrow to pick a portion of the movie to splice.
    Its all very frustrating - I've spent about 3 hours on this silly thing this evening telling myself "it can't be this hard." But either I am really missing the obvious, or there is a bug in Keynote, or this just can't be done.
    BTW I am using Keynote 09.
    Any help would be very appreciated. For tonight I've given up on the movie and just cut that part out.
    thanks.

    You've found one of my frustrations...here's the way it works:
    In keynote, you MUST set the slide delay for a movie to stay on screen, and you can see that you're able to transition before the movie is done by cutting the delay shorter than the movie. The draw back is, if you want the whole movie to play, you MUST set the delay to at least the same length as the movie.
    When exporting to QT, this doesn't work. The export forces the movie to play in its entirety. If you weren't trying to cut the movie short, you'd still have to remove your auto advance delay so that it transitions after the movie plays. This is why you're seeing that long hold, it's counting your movie length AND the delay time you added in Keynote.
    The only thing I can suggest is removing that transition delay and living with the movie playing through to the end. You could always trim the movie in QT Pro and use that in Keynote I suppose.

  • Keynote '08 cannot export as Quicktime movie

    I purchased KN '08 to create presentations. It is updated to version 4.0.2. I have tried for the last 3 hours to export my presentation as a Quicktime movie. No matter what functions I turn off, or change, nothing seems to work. In fact, after the 3rd attempt, Keynote erased some photos out of my presentation. When I tried to re-add them, Keynote said it couldn't because I didn't have access to the file, or there was damage to the files. Luckily I had back-ups I could access.
    Is there a way to make this work? Why would Apple put out a product like this that doesn't work?
    Robby

    ditto. I have not been able export any of my presentations. Also, I could not get the recording to work consistently and correctly. I can't even get my PowerMac G5 with 5 GB RAM to play the slide show correctly.
    I found that the only work around is using Snapz Pro X while stepping through the the slide show. This creates a high quality QT movie.
    Keynote is not the only problem. Quick Time does not work properly either. Some movies, even high def movies, play flawlessly and some I take at only 640 x 480 gives me a "strobing" (flashing of white). This has happened in movies added to Keynote, movies streamed through Safari, and even some movies played in Quick Time Pro itself.
    I thought I had a lemon MacBook Pro, since I'm now on my third logic board/video card since I purchased last July, but I think it is also a software issue. I was hoping that Leopard would magically repair the problems with Quick Time, but it has not.
    Any suggestions in how to fix this would be appreciated. Why does some QT play without a problem and others so nasty? What is the ideal settings for a QT export? What is ideal resolution for movies included in Keynote to play without "strobing"?

  • Keynote with embedded .mov exported to Quicktime and then WMV (Flip4Mac)

    Hi,
    I have a Keynote with an embedded .mov file (video and audio) half way through which exports to Quicktime fine ("Keynote .mov").
    When I use Flip4Mac to convert the Keynote .mov to WMV the resulting WMV file works fine but stops when the audio of the Keynote .mov stops i.e. Flip4Mac doesn't render the last of the Keynote .mov
    I have sought help over at Flip4Mac tech support forum but thought someone here might know the answer.
    I have tried a variety of different .mov files in my Keynote but the same in all cases: export to QT is fine but Flip4Mac stops converting the Keynote .mov at the end of any audio.
    I can extract the audio track and Flip4Mac will convert the Keynote .mov (video) all the way through.
    Help?

    what format are the movies you placed on your slides? This makes a big difference in if they get included in the exported QT movie.

  • One Keynote slide + one 7.4 MB mp3 exported to QuickTime = 110.2 MB MOV ???

    OK... Title says most. Combining a single Keynote slide with a 7.4 MB MP3 and exporting to QuickTime is giving me a HUGE file of 110.2 MB.
    Same slide, same MP3, exported to Flash yields an 8.2 MB SWF.
    What's up with that??
    I just want one slide to open up in full-screen, and click to play one song with the slide... and a file small enough to email.
    Any suggestions?

    Ok, the magic key seems to be a Custom frame rate of 0.01. With a frame rate that low, I'm getting file sizes of just larger than the music file. Set Keyframe and Data Rate to Automatic.
    The reason why this doesn't happen with Flash is because flash does things the way iPhoto does. Display one static image and leave it there until it needs to change. Keynote COULD do that with QuickTime, but it doesn't
    Also, if that H.264 gamma change is causing you problems, I just found you can use PNG. Make the same change to the frame rate (you don't have to alter anything else for PNG) and you get a file just a skosh bigger, but closer to your original colors.

  • Export to Quicktime bug with embedded movies

    Hi
    I'm having an annoying problem when having Quicktime movies inserted in slides, then recording a slideshow and exporting it to Quicktime. I do the following:
    1) Create a new slideshow
    1) Insert movie into first slide
    2) Create another slide
    3) Insert copy and paste movie into this slide as well and add some animated object (i.e. a shape with a motion path)
    4) Record slideshow so that the animated object appears while the movie still plays
    5) Export recorded slideshow to Quicktime
    *What happens when viewing the recorded slideshow:* Start of the presentation. The movie on the first slide starts playing immediately without clicking. *1st CLICK*. Second slide shows up. The movie on the second slide starts playing without clicking as well. *2nd CLICK.* The animated object is triggered, the movie and the animation play simultaneously.
    *What happens when viewing the exported movie:* The exported movie seems to ignore some of the recorded settings. Slideshow starts, the movie doesn't play. *1st CLICK.* The movie starts playing (when actually it was supposed to advance from slide 1 to slide 2). *2nd CLICK.* The presentation advanced from slide 1 to slide 2.
    It seems as if the export does not interpret all the settings the same way the direct presentation does, which is quite annoying as you don't get the same result in the exported movie you see on the screen.
    Workaround: Go to the "QuickTime inspector" button in the inspector window, select the movie, check the option "Start movie on click". Then, go to the "Build inspector", hit the "More Options" button. The movie object now appears in the list. Select it and select "Automatically after transition" in the lower "Start build" part of the inspector. This way, the movie will start playing also in the exported movie.
    Still there is another problem now.
    *What happens now when viewing the exported movie with workaround:* Slideshow starts, the plays. *1st CLICK.* The presentation advanced from slide 1 to slide 2. The movie on the second slide starts playing without clicking as well! YAY! *2nd CLICK.* The animated object is triggered, the animation plays but the movie stops as soon as the animation is triggered.
    So, instead of playing animation and movie simultaneously as in the normal recorded slideshow on screen, in the exported movie, the movie stops the moment the animation is triggered.
    It seems as if the "Play Slideshow" and "Export to Quicktime" have different timelines, or different parameters the two modes evaluate.
    This happened in iWork '08 and also happens in iWork '09. It's quite annoying. For me it's clearly a bug that should be fixed and is worth fixing. Please Apple, fix this bug.
    I also noticed a tremendous amount of crashes while using the export to Quicktime function. While I was trying Keynote in iWork '09 I exported several times to Quicktime and had several crashes just by using this function.

    Hi all.
    I do exactly have the same problem since Keynote 4.0 and was hoping that it's solved in Keynote 5.0.
    As soon as I try to export a previously recorded slideshow, (that has a quicktime-movie embeded on one slide) and one or two little textanimations on it. The embeded movie stops playing when the first animation starts in the exported quicktimemovie. When I view my recorded presentation, everything looks fine.
    I do also believe, that the Quicktime-Export-Function does not work correctly because of timeline differences or so.
    I would really appreciate a fix, specially becaused I upgraded in the hope that this should have been solved since around 10 months now....
    Too bad.
    P.S. As a workaround I am currently using also screenflow to record a recorded keynotepresentation to finally receive a movie. But that is kind of awkward too....

  • Video to loop in Keynote export to quicktime

    I'm tying to get one slide to loop in a QT export from KN as my "opener slide" while people are sitting down and getting ready to watch. Works if I use keynote to present, but since the autitorium does not allow 3rd party computers on their system, I had to export to Quicktime .MOV for playback on their pc.
    Now, that loop is simply not looping. In the exported MOV, my little clip on the 1st slide plays once and stops. please help. My deadline is imminent.

    Good Idea. My problem is that I am not the one presenting...I'm just putting it together. The company's VP is presenting....the swicharoo might be tricky in the timing. I wonder if one can link the two via Hyperlink...it's a pity keynote's hyperlink options are SUPER LIMITED.

  • Keynote export to Quicktime = blank white screen

    We have Keynote 4.0.1. We have a slide show that plays perfectly, but when we Export to Quicktime, the resulting movie has a blank white screen and our music track, but no narration and no graphics.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

    From your description your problem may be that you have QuickTime video embedded in your Keynote document.
    QT video will play normally in a Keynote presentation, however when you export the Keynote presentation to a QT movie, the video will be blank. This is a long-standing issue with Keynote and the 4.0.2 update does not fix this problem.
    There is no workaround using Keynote only.
    You can export the graphics portion of the Keynote presentation to a QT movie and then embed that movie in a video editing program such as Final Cut Pro (I don't believe iMovie is up to the task). Once you've assembled all the pieces--the Keynote presentation, your narration, and whatever else--you will then be able to export to a QuickTime movie.
