KeyNote on a TV Screen

Hello everyone,
At my high school, we have a video bulletin board which is a repeating slideshow of announcements that we broadcast to the school over our in-house TV station. We have recently upgraded from using AppleWorks to Keynote '08... we also got a more powerful computer to run keynote '08. The Mac's Display shows up perfectly fine on the TV screen... but when I press play in keynote, I see a jagged line that moves slowly accross the screen. It's very distracting... and looks like it has something to do with Refresh Rate... Any suggestions?

What are your monitor settings for the external monitor (TV)?
What kind of adapter are you using?
What is the resolution of your Keynote show?
My GUESS is that when Keynote seizes control of the display, it is probably resetting the display resolution and refresh rate to values that are optimized for the presentation. Much like some media players will actually switch the monitor to 640x480 (or whatever) when you tell them to play full screen. Even if that isn't happening, my best guess is that this is a refresh rate problem. Try forcing your refresh rate to 60 Hz.
One more thing to try: Start the presentation, and *while it is playing*, power-cycle the scan converter (the thing that converts you from XGA to composite video) so that it will reset and lock to Keynote's output.

How can I run a keynote presentation in full screen mode?

Keynote runs in full screen by default when you click the Play button in the toolbar. If you want the slides to fit the display area, check the box next to "Scale slides up to fit display" in Preferences...

  • Keeping Keynote from Taking Both Screens

I have an iMac (early 2009, w/Yosemite), and a separate monitor.  I want to display my Keynote (version 6.5.2) presentation on the separate monitor and keep control of my iMac screen for running another program.  However, once I start the Keynote presentation, the iMac screen is automatically taken over by the Presenter's slides function of Keynote.
I do not need the presenter to show on the iMac.  I have our weekly church announcements scrolling as a Keynote presentation on the external monitor, and need to use the iMac screen from controlling our live stream broadcast.
Is there a way to keep Keynote running on the external monitor and not take over the iMac screen?
    Thanks for any information..

You could export the Keynote announcement loop as a QuickTime movie, and use QuickTime Player in the second display to show the loop.
Set up your presentation as normal, and then export it as a self-playing QuickTime movie. Open the file in QuickTime Player, drag it to your second display, and set it to Loop (Menu View:Loop or Opt-Cmnd-L). Make it full screen and you are off to the races
    Two draw backs
    1) Complicated (i.e. lots of transitions and animations) presentations make for very large QuickTime files (I created a 4 slide file, text only, with an animation on each slide and a transition between each: the Keynote file was under 500KB, the QuickTime video was 8.2 MB; you might be able to optimize that a bit by playing with resolution and minimizing animations).
    2) Depending on your computer's processing power and RAM, QuickTime movies can be processor intensive to run - playback may be impacted if you are running other apps in the background.

  • Using a Macbook 2008 with Lion 10.7.5, how can I project photos/keynote on smart tv screen? Macbook will not upgrade beyond Lion.

Using a Macbook 2008 with Lion, 10.7.5, how can I project photos/keynote presentation on my smart tv? It is connected to tv with mini-dvi/hdmi cable, but I don't know how to display the images. Thanks!

Did you switch the TV's input to the HDMI port you are using with the computer? Did you open Displays preferences to see if a second screen is displayed and then check the box to mirror to the TV screen? Did you search Google for any help links on how to do what you are trying to do?

  • Powerpoint to Keynote - presentation not filling screen

    Hey folks,
i have just moved over to iWork and I am copying across some of my powerpoints. While opening them is not problem, I can't get them to fit the screen. They just fill up a small section in the middle. does any one have any ideas how I can make them full screen?
    thanks

I have this same problem - I am trying to change over to keynote but want to keep using 5 years of worship powerpoint files! How do you get the presentation to fill the screen?

  • Can't get Keynote to autoplay (black screen)

Admittedly, I'm a total newbie at Keynote and all of a sudden I've got to create a loop display for a booth at a trade show.
I've created the Keynote slides and have animated all text and images on each slide.
I've gone into the format presentation and checked loop slideshow and restart if idle for; I've also checked self-playing and widescreen.
However, when I hit the play button at the top of the window, it goes full screen and remains totally black.
Can someone give me a "For Dummies" version of what I might be doing incorrectly? I'm using Mavericks on an iMac, and once I've got everythign right, will move it over to a brand new MacBookPro.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Going to the Keynote settings and turning on "Use iCloud" did not work. The change did not persist.
Turns out the solution was to turn on iCloud Drive for Keynote, in the iCloud Settings.
Why would there be two places to change a setting to "use iCloud"?

  • Keynote won't fill screen with Apple TV AirPlay

I have an iPad and a new Apple TV (A5). I wanted to give presentations on an HDTV using the Apple TV, however the presentations don't quite fill the screen. Any way to change the aspect ratio, or at least a stretch to fill option in keynote?

I connect to Airplay Display, I select apple tv, and either mirror display or extended desktop. Doesn't matter which, both have the problem.
Then, on my imac I try to play a video and it does not work. I can even hit play on a video, let it go, and THEN turn on Airplay and it will stop playing as soon as I do.

  • Command-tab during Keynote shows on wrong screen

    Hi,
Since I upgraded Keynote I now see the icons of the programs I have open during a command-tab keystroke on the wrong screen. My audience sees everything I have open and I am lost on my screen.
It does not always occur. When I hook up my MacBook to a large screen beamer yes. Not when I connect to just another monitor on my desk. There is some little option somewhere I guess... But what has changed where?

Alternatively, hit the letter 'x' when in slideshow mode to eXchange the two different views between the two screens...
    The switch should be instantaneous.
    Jai
ps hit the '/' to get other keyboard commands on screen.

  • Mac Pro with 6 displays open 6 instance of keynote one on each screen

I am looking to purchase a Mac Pro with 6 Thunderbolt out to drive 6 displays. My question is this..
Can I use a a command like the following to open a 6 different keynote presentations and place each on a different screen.
n=6 ; for (( p=1; p<n; p++)) ; do open -n /Users/username/Desktop/Presentationname.key then some argument to dictate which display the file opens on.
    Thanks

Mavericks brings in a new way of working with displays.
    Multiple Displays
Desktop with menu bar and Dock
Each display connected to your Mac has [can have] a desktop with its own menu bar, so there’s nothing to configure. The Dock is available when you move your cursor to the bottom of the screen, letting you easily access menus and apps from anywhere.
    Full-screen apps on each display
You can use full-screen apps on each display connected to your Mac. Swipe on the trackpad or mouse to switch between full-screen apps.
    Multidisplay Mission Control
OS X Mavericks makes it easy to manage the apps running on each display. Mission Control shows you everything that’s on each display, including windows on the desktop and full-screen apps. If you want to move an app from one display to another, simply drag its thumbnail to the desired display.
It is not clear whether this gives complete ability to launch multiple instances of Keynote, one in each of several displays -- my expectation is that it does NOT. I think you will have to experiment a bit to find the true capabilities.

  • I need to display a keynote on 2 flat screens with my MacBook Air via hdmi. I am not sure how to do it.

I Am giving a presentation and was just informed that I will be using 2 flat screen tvs as my monitors and I need to use hdmi cables. I am lost as to how to do this. I know there is a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter but is there a splitter so I can put it on both tvs.

is there a splitter so I can put it on both tvs.
To be precise, you must use an HDMI distributor:   Kramer VM-2HXL

  • Keynote..chat GREEN SCREEN background trick...

I noticed that with LEPORDS new ichat (video) you can place a movie or image in the background, when will this effect make ti to FCP and iLIFE??
This just about kills off Avid, ok, not really but if its in iCHAT it should be in iLIFE and FCP/FCE. Yes?

Everyone is right. Green-screen technology has been around a long time. Professional results can be achieved with minimal money and effort. Honestly, there is very little difference between a professional green screen and some cloth or paint you can get at any local store. As long as you use the basic principles (minimize spill off the background (green screen), keep a solid shade of color in the background, and keep the background color out of your subject - i.e., no green shirts in-front of the green-screen) and you'll do fine. Do some searches for green-screen tips, it's rather simple.
Honestly, if you're in the LA area, surely you know of someone who has access to some sort of studio. If not, local collages are a great place to start. I know for a fact that CSU Northridge has a huge green-screen studio that is RARELY used! Even though it is a horrible setup, it is constantly available and absolutely free. Networking never hurts, well... rarely. Responsible networking.
Hope this helps buddy and good luck with the music videos

  • Using Keynote with Podcast Capture and Dual Screens

    Hi everyone,
We are trying to use a dual screen setup to record some Keynote presentations using Podcast Capture (i.e Dual mode, with the Keynote presentation in one screen and the presenter in the other).
The problem we are having is that when in full screen mode, Keynote takes control of both displays, thus stopping the Podcast application from being displayed. Even if we switch off the Presenter Display on the second screen, the second screen turns black.
I know we can start and stop recording with hotkeys, but we would prefer to be able to see the Capture app in one window with the presentation full screen in the other.
Perhaps this is just an oversight on Apple's part, but I'm finding it hard to believe its not possible. If anyone else has a workaround then please share.
    Thanks.

Other applications are not visible when Keynote is playing back.  Keynote takes over control of the graphics system when playing back presentations to enable Keynote to display properly.
When I play back Keynote and I want to look at a second application, I use a second Mac.

  • Is it possible to loop a Keynote presentation on an external display while working in another program (say numbers) on my laptop screen?

    I have a 2012 MacBook Air.
What I would like to be able to do is plug into an external display and project a looping Keynote presentation on the external display. The problem is when I play the Keynote presentation, my laptop screen goes black. Is it possible to play/loop a Keynote presentation on an external display while working in a different program (Pages, Numbers, etc) on my laptop screen?
