Keynote opens pps attachments with no sound

When I get a Power Point attachment, it opens in Keynote, and has no sound. I get the working version, not the finished product. How do I change it to open in Power Point, or at least get sound on Keynote?

I can't answer the part about no sound, because I just made a PP (.pptx) with sound, and when I opened it with KN, the sound worked fine. So my guess is that the attachment you've been sent has been sent without the sound file. To be able to play a PP doc which includes media (audio, video) on any computer other than the one on which it was created, whether Mac or Windows, whether opened with PP or KN, it must be saved as a package (which is a folder containing the PP doc plus the media file), and the whole package must be moved (whether by email or memory stick) to the new computer. The same thing is true with KN docs, BTW.
Moving on: If, on a Mac, you're clicking on a PP doc but it opens in KN, that's probably because you don't have PP installed. Is that the case? If you don't have PP, but want to view a PP doc in PP, or, in any case, not in KN: there used to be a Microsoft app "PowerPoint Viewer for Mac", but that doesn't work with OS X, and there's no update. If you don't want to buy PP, I believe NeoOffice, which is free, will open PP docs, and even allow you to work on them. Obviously, buying PP (MS Office) is the surest, but most expensive solution.
Now then: If you do have PP on your Mac, but your PP docs nevertheless open in KN, it sounds as if the default app for opening PP's has been reset wrong. Correct this by: "Get info" on that file; halfway down the window which opens is an "Open with:" drop-down, where you can set the default app back to PP, and click below that to apply this change to all files like this.
Just out of curiosity: what do you mean by "working version, not the finished product"? Is the difference only the missing sound, or is there more to it than that?
Good luck.

For the D600 NEF's you have two alternatives: (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.3 Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.3 You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. • Opening email attachments with Docs to go

I can't figure out how to open and view email attachments with Docs to go. Hep!

save them on your media card
then open Docs to go
and select the file.

• I think the last update did not work, and now I cannot open jpeg attachments with windows picture and fax viewer, it is not listed in the tools/options drop dow

I don't believe the last Thunderbird update worked, there was a very fast error message. But since then I cannot open jpeg attachments in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. If I go to Tools, then options, the jpeg line is grayed out, and the drop down menu does not show Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. The windows picture and fax viewer still works on my computer, but not for opening attachments.

I did as you said - deleted the entry for jpeg, but when I tried to open one there is not an option for Picture and Fax Viewer in the drop down, and it can't be found by browsing. It's just not there anywhere even though I can see pics in it except in email attachments.

• Opening pps attachments

I received a pps attachment in email. I'm not able to open it. I have iWork software is this not sufficient? Any advice is welcome please.

Almost doesn't mean all. iWork will open standard Office files, but the .pps extension is not a standard filetype recognized by Macs. Hence the need to change the extension to .ppt.
You simply change the filename to replace .pps with .ppt. I assume you know how to change or edit a filename. If I'm wrong let me know.
As an alternative try opening the file from within Keynote by selecting the file via the Open option in the File menu.

• Can't open any attachments with Quick Look on iPad

When I try to open any email attachment with Quick Look, I get the "Loading...", but it never opens. This is happening for pdfs, Word docs, Excel docs, etc. The attachments will open just fine in QuickOffice, iBooks, Evernote, Dropbox, etc. Anyone have suggestions?
Thanks

I had a similar problem in that the latest version of Works would open many Word documents from my previous computer but would not open more complicated documents that had large tables etc. I decided to try downloading the free Open Office and found that it opens every Word document I have encountered so far and seems much more capable than Works.

• Open email attachments with Pages?

Have just recently purchased 2 iMacs and am having a problem with email attachments. iWorks is installed on both machines. In one machine, when an email attachment comes through I can "Command-click" and get an option menu to select the application that will open the attachment- in other words choose Pages rather than TextEdit or Word (if I had it installed).
On the second computer, all "Word-type" documents are automatically opend by TextEdit. If I "Command-click"

You are probably not doing anything wrong but sending to persons not having Macs with Pages of the same version. If you are sending to person on PCs or Macs without the right Pages you have to export to Word or Pdf so they can read it.

• Opening email attachments with iOS 7

After the latest update, I cannot open PDF or word attachment on my corporate emails.... Help please?

This is a known issue, see this thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5992793?tstart=0
Try choosing "download full message" at the bottom of the email, if that option is there (it isn't always). There is no other workaround yet. Hopefully Apple is working on it.

• Always open *.pps with PowerPoint

I received an email with a *.pps attachment (i.e., a PowerPoint attachment). The tool tip says Mime-type:application/vnd.ms-powerpoint. However, when I double click the icon, I get the cannot find an application error message. So I navigate thru the choose application menu trail and select PowerPoint. Then when I try to open that same icon again I still get the cannot find an application error message. Is there way to force Mail to remember to always open *.pps attachments with PowerPoint?

hi there--
try exporting the attachment to the desktop. then click just once on the file to highlight it and then press apple and i on the keyboard. from here, go down to the "open with" section in the middle of the information window. select other if powerpoint is not available, then specify powerpoint in the new window that comes up. you can select to always open this by checking the box, and then make sure back in the information window, you click the "change all" button. this will tell all powerpoint documents to open with the powerpoint application. • Can no longer get .pps attachments

Since switching to DSL from modem I can't open .pps attachments. When I try I get the message "Cannot find the application program that created the document named...". I never have had this problem before. Don't know if it's my computer or the DSL...how can I get the application program back?

There are two ways to open .pps files on a Mac. If you have M$ Office, it includes the PowerPoint application. If you don't have Office, you can use the freeware PowerPoint 98 Viewer for Macintosh
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e25cb1e5-209c-4a58-b283 -23e84b616477&DisplayLang=en
If you have either of the two above apps, open the app and then select the .pps file. The file should then open.

• Outlook 2013: can't open inline attachments

Hi, a colleague of mine has in Inbox an email with inline attachments that I can see in the body of the message:
He said he could open these attachments with Outlook 2007. A few days ago we upgraded to Outlook 2013 and now he can't open them. A security popup shows, because outlook identifies it as an external content unsafe, but if he proceeds Word tries to open and
then crashes. If he tries to open with another application (such as notepad) it says "I cannot find the file C:\temp\cid:a0d0" etc etc
I tried to extract the attachment with a third party software but on this email it doesn't discover any attachment.
I cannot guarantee at 100% that these files could be opened with Outlook 2007, but I believe to my colleague. So, is there a reason why it is no more possible to open these attachments?

Hi Maurice 7785,
Deal and customize attachment security behavior to access such kind of blocked file format. Usually, Outlook does not allow users to open such unsafe type of attachments. It means they are blocked them by default, so you need to unblock such items using REG
values.

• Can no longer open email attachments

All of a sudden I was unable to open email attachments with my att yahoo account. I was able to open them using Explorer. I tried all the suggestions posted including clearing history, safe mode, and resetting Firefox, to no avail. This problem occurs with all email extensions.

RNORTH
''I solved the problem by doing an uninstall and reinstall of Firefox ''
Glad that worked for you.
Whilst posters in this thread have the same broad and vague symptom the cause may vary. Reinstalling Firefox may be overkill for this type of problem, and a simple reinstall is often not a very good solution to anything.
Walter & the sign out solution.
Probably a quick and simple trick if it works. The clear cache and site cookies suggestion in the second post of this thread is probably a more reliable method of doing of solving that sort of issue.
== ''';-)''' ==
This reminds me of another Forum I was on.
Threads often had suggested solutions along the lines of
#Uninstall browser A use browser B, that worked for me
#Followed by another poster saying uninstall browser B use A
In fact the thread would be one where clearing cache and cookies would be the preferred solution. Uninstalling a browser and reinstalling a brand new instance of another has a similar effect to clearing cache and cookies, but is nowhere near as convenient.
