Keynote problem with Narration

Having migrated from Powerpoint and Windows to Apple I have been using Keynote - an excellent programme - with one major failing - bloody awful narration system - when will Apple introduce a system similar to Powerpoint so that you can run your voiceover across a number of different slides - you seem to have to record a whole piece and hope it stays in sync. Until Apple fixes this obvious failure of Keynote - and I presume they are or have it in hand for the next upgrade - who knows of a sensible workaround to solve this problem? Thanks Francis

Welcome to the Forum;
This problem has been lamented and discussed in several threads within this forum. Search on the terms: Narration, Soundtrack, Recording, etc.
At present, there is no easy solution for keeping everything in sync over a long and/or complex presentation.
The problem also has been reported numerous times on the Keynote Feedback Forum. When and if any "fixes" will be incorporated into an upgrade to Keynote, however, is anyone's guess.
Good luck.

  • Problems with narration recording

I am creating a Keynote presentation with narration. When I create the recording, everything looks just like it's supposed to. The problem is during playback. When I play the recorded presentation, the builds and transitions speed up a lot faster than I recorded them. This causes my narration to lag behind. It becomes a major distraction when I am discussing the bullet points on the screen. My recording will start 10 seconds after a bullet appeared. When I recorded, however, I had the bullet enter at exactly the right time.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Followup on this... I moved the presentation to another imac and the recording went well- absolutely no problems and export to quicktime was great. No need to mess with recording individual pcs. That was a week ago...   Apple support peepshas  emailed me to try to sort this out...  so I am doing more tests.. So here is what I think is happening...
What I find is the key difference is that the problem on original computer had the file in icloud.  We've been having trouble with the internet- it has been going to zero transmission intermittently and then starting up again a minute or two later. I've had CenturyLink out looking at this.
When I took the file to the other computer it was now local- no icloud... all was good...  So today, I retry a test with the same file and recording on the original computer and it is good now too BUT internet is doing good today...   So I think the faulty interent is not being addressed by icloud back and forth causing the problems...   or keep the record file local, not on icloud, to have best assurance

  • Keynote problems with keyboard shortcuts

Is anyone having problems with keyboard shortcuts not working with Keynote?  Had this problem (and a host of others) since the upgrade to Mavericks and the latest Keynote.

    Hello,
I can replicate all by problem number 1. Once the PDF loads, I can use the arrow keys to scroll up/down. All of the other problems you mentioned haven't been implemented.
You're certainly welcome to send feedback to Apple, though!

  • Keynote Problem with Movies

I wonder if anybody can help with a weird problem. I made a two-slide presentation I'm keynote that included a music track from iTunes. I exported to QuickTime and it worked perfectly. I uploaded the movie (.mov file) to Dropbox and the audio dropped right at the point where the second slide would have started. I then uploaded the the movie to Vimeo and the audio dropped in the same way. So to recap, the audio in the movie fully played out when I opened it in QuickTime on my Mac but dropped halfway through when I ploaded to Dropbox and Vimeo. Does anybody know why this is happening and how to fix it?
    Much appreciated.

Probably because the iTunes file has an embedded  Digital Rights Management certificate which prevents unauthorised publishing of copyright music to web sites such as Youtube.

  • Keynote - problem with playback of embedded video

Hi All - I have embedded a .m4v movie in to my slide show (I 'dropped' it in). I check it - all looks fine as I want it to and I then record it. I export it as a Quick Time Movie.
But on playing the movie of the Keynote slide show after it has recorded, the embedded video just appears as a black square with no image and a few seconds of faint speech.
I have searched forums but a clear answer has not appeared.
Please advise me on what to do!
    Thank You!

Hi Gary, well, things have now become a bit more complicated....... For some reason I can not locate the original project in iMovie...... (If you have any light to shed any light on that too -  that would be great as I did nothing after Exporting. Assumed I'd saved it - though it automatically saves anyway - I thought.....)
So, I have had to import the already converted m4v back in to iMovie as an Event and then re Export as per your suggested H264.
Dropped back in to Keynote. Played the Slide Show. All fine. Recorded it.
Played it back and all there is, again, is a muffled sound track and a black box with nothing happening at all!
So, the glitch seems to be in the interface with the recording. It does, at ground level play within Keynote but the exporting and sharing is what I am requiring it for.
I really do need this film to work. Any further suggestions please?
    Thank You.

  • How do I share a Keynote project as Quicktime with narration on each slide?

I have a Keynote presentation with narration embedded in each slide. It plays fine as a self-timed show. I tied everything together by "recording" the presentation (with no extra sound). This second version of the show plays fine within Keynote, starting always at the first slide. When I try to share this second show as a Quicktime, the sound is hit-or-miss: part of the narration on some slides, all of it on others, none at all on others. The total length of the QT movie matches the playing time of the Keynote presentation, but the sound is whacko. My workaround was to do a screen capture with iShowU, but I would like to know the solution to the problem within the Keynote program. I would appreciate hearing any ideas anyone may have. Thanks.

    Oh !
    thats a shame
is there no public or semi public area to save a file to that can be shared

  • Keynote '09 with very long presentation

I'm planning a kiosk-type application using keynote and a new mac mini. The presentation will have video, transitions, etc. and will be looped. The video will be large (up to 1GB per clip), but not embedded into the keynote file. I'm wondering if the 1GB mini will be able to handle this ok, or if I'll have to go with 2 or 4G. I know the more the better, but I'm trying to keep costs down. Any opinions?

I had really hoped this problem would be fixed with iWork 09, as some people reported, but today I tried my first QT export from a Keynote presentation with narration, and the problem persists. My audio cuts out after the first minute or so of the QT movie.

Have you moved Pages from its installed location? Or just dragged a copy to your current system?
It can't find some of its resources apparently.

  • Image problems with keynote   dropbox

We are having massive problems with images not appearing correctly in our Keynote when saved via dropbox. Images appear swaped with other images, or at times, completely missing all together. This has completely crippled the work flow at our business and we are at all but a loss other on how we can continue to properly work in Keynote 6. What can be done to remedy this problem?

This is a MASSIVE problem. Keynote autosaves every single small change. With multiple team members on multiple locations it's virtually impossible to know if someone even does 1 tiny change in the presentation, while someone else is doing the same. The autosave makes this almost a certainty to happen.
We had to do multiple reworks this weekend, because of this. It makes working with dropbox and Keynote virtually impossible. I asked around and all Agencies I know, having the same issue.
One change on two locations, even by accident means:
    - Broken images
    - Broken videos
    - Mixed images turning on different locaties
    - Mixed videos turning on different locaties
    - Keynote versioning broke.
    - No dropbox versioning because of the new file format,
Only thing that can save you is a local backup.....OMG!!
It feels like a viral outbreak, and nobody is realising it yet....

  • Major problems using Keynote 09 with Keynote 08 files

Keynote 09 seems to have been let out into the wild a bit too early. I have encountered several major problems when using it on older KN08 files. From the Scroll bar in outline view, to almost every movie or sound file being corrupted and requiring a "reinsert," to an annoyingly common problem with images losing their formatting. It seems that the new file format in KN09 does not play well with KN08 (this was not the case with any of the previous version upgrades).
I have contacted Apple and shared these problems with them. I have removed KN09 from all my machines and have reverted back to KN08. Hopefully a future patch will correct this file corruption problem

Your presentations sound like they are much more involved and memory intensive than mine. I only have a couple with movies/sound and those are quite short. So far (knock on wood) I've not had any of your problems. However, as a matter of course I always create a backup file before starting to edit an old important file with a new program. Keep us posted.

  • Problems with copying between Adobe Illustrator and keynote

I have recently switched from Tiger to Snow Leopard. A lot of my keynote presentations have started acting up since. Many images that I copied from Adobe Illustrator (CS3) are reported as "missing" when I open the presentations. Also, some Adobe illustrator arrangements give keynote problems when I copy them into a presentation now. The problem here is that I can copy them into keynote but then I cannot duplicate them or copy-paste them again. If I save a presentation containing such images and try to open it after closing it, the same problem about "missing" images becomes apparent.
In comparing with other computers used by my colleagues I have established that this does not have anything to do with my computer. It turns out, any machine running Snow Leopard has these problems but any machine running Tiger or Leopard does not. The problem is present in both keynote 4.0.4 and 5.0.4.
In trying to narrow down the problem I found out the following. The problem is text box based. If I copy a text field (or an arrangement containing one of these) from illustrator into keynote and if that text field contains more than one line, and if that line break is mediated by the "shift-return" key combination, the problems I mentioned show up.
Does anyone have the same problems/know a solution? It is quite a major flaw for me, it essentially means I can dump all my old keynote presentations.
    Cheers

    Welcome to the discussions, thetwelfthman.
In copying these from Illustrator to Keynote, I'm assuming that they are pasting into Keynote as a PDF? Also, is there any difference between printing to a PDF then dragging that in and just copying/pasting into Keynote?

  • Keynote conversion:  Powerpoint found a problem with content....

    Hi all,
MS office is killing me and I'd appreciate any pointers and comments
    Here's the situation:
    1. Keynote file (multi-revised over the years) exported to powerpoint file XYZ in New-MBP
    2. New-MBP opens XYZ and gets "found a problem with content in..."
    3. Click on "repair", open up XYZ, and get bunch of blank pages
    4. Same XYZ file copied to Old-MBP(freshly installed, now my home media server, not many apps installed).
    5. Same version of Office 2011 installed in Old-MBP, opened the file just fine!
(so the problem is not NewMBP Keynote)
    6. Created a test account in New-MBP
    7. Attempted to open XYZ with Powerpoint
    8. Same "found a problem with content in..."
    9. Click on "repair", open up XYZ, and get bunch of blank pages
(so the problem is not user/privileges, but the NewMBP system-wide issue?)
    10. In New MBP, created a brand new Keynote file, did some light work
    11. Exported new keynote file to powerpoint file RRR
    12. In New-MBP, RRR opened under Powerpoint 2011 just fine!
(so the problem might be the original multi-modified Keynote file?)
(But its powerpoint file XYZ opened in Old-MBP just fine!)
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2011, with SP1, still cannot open XYZ properly.
I've copied all Office 2011 files from Old-MBP to New MBP, still cannot open XYZ properly.
I"ve googled the problem and tried anything I could find, still cannot open XYZ properly. (deleting presenter notes... etc)
My current conclusion: some kind of software system conflicts in the New-MBP.
    Anyone with any ideas?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Will

    Hi Will,
Met the same issues and spent hours to find the problem. And guess what ? I found it :-)
For some reason, groups are not supported by Powerpoint converted files.
This is why every slide that contains group is not converted.
The workaround is to ungroup all the groups in your keynote file (alt+cmd+shift+G) and you'll see your slides being converted again.
I'm not sure where the issue is coming from. I would tend to think it should be resolve by the Apple Keynote team.
Not sure whether it has been escalated so far.
There might be some other small issues. One or two slides were not properly converted although they were not containing group, but this should fix most of them.
    Have fun degrouping your slides

  • Problems with Windows 7 Ease of Use Magnifier & Narrator

I am legally blind and need Windows 7 Ease of Use programs to use the computer.  However, I have been having problems with both the narrator and the magnifier.  I have Home Premium running on i5-3317u with integrated graphics and 6gb ram.
Q1:  Magnifier has options to follow the keyboard focus and the text insertion point.  However, in my case, it will only follow the mouse pointer.  It will not follow the keyboard insertion point.  I want magnifier to follow the mouse
pointer, the keyboard focus, and the keyboard insertion point.  How can I get them all to work properly?
Q2:  I cannot get narrator to read documents, whether I use notepad, MS Word, or third party software.  Also, I cannot control narrator with the keyboard controls.  How can I fix these problems?
    Thank you for your time

    Hi,
This may occur if there are some corrupt system files on the computer. I would suggest that you run a SFC scan which would scan for corrupt system files on the computer and replace them
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

If the above step fails then check if the issue persists in a new user account
    Create a user account

Please also update your sound card and display card.
Meanwhile, I suggest changing  Resolution settings for testing the issue.
