Keynote shutdown - help

After a recent upgrade to Mavericks, Keynote keeps shutting down in the middle of slide show presentations. What do I do?

I have a Keynote issue too. Upgraded to Mavericks but went back to Keynote 09 - hate all the new iWork programs. Now, presentations will not let me exit while connected to a projector. ESC does nothing. Unhook the projector, choose a new Keynote file and Mac crashes - the gray screen that tells me my Mac needs to be rebooted. Happened twice today during an important meeting. Sometimes when I eventually quit and get back to my desk with no projectore hooked up, the top left hand quarter of the screen is black and nothing will restore the full screen except a reboot. Very infuriating.

Solution to Keynote Double Help Menu Issue

Hello,
I posted on September 24th that Keynote 2.0.2 was freezing when I minimized a slideshow window.
On Sept. 28 Kyn Drake told another writer with the same problem to uninstall the DiVX Codec and the Double Help Menus would go away.
I also found two Help Menus; I hadn't noticed them before.
I searched in Users>Library>Quicktime> and I found a file called "DivX 5.component." Removing that from the folder and restarting Keynote solved the problem.
The double menu went away and the freezing problem vanished.

Go to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder and delete these files:
com.apple.help.plist
com.apple.helpviewer.plist
If you also see com.apple.helpui.plist delete that too.
Then navigate to /Home/Library/Caches/ folder and look for a folder named com.apple.helpui. If you find it then delete it as well.

Keynote examples - HELP

A few months back I stumbled across a fantastic example of Keynote on the Apple web site. It was not a video tutorial, but an actual presentation that allowed one to dissect and inspect how it was put together.
I have been searching and searching for this but it seems that it has been pulled off the site.
Does anyone either have a copy or know where I can get one? I am desperate for high tech examples from keynote and that one was perfect.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm not sure if it's .ppt, they are saved on my desktop, and i tried opening keynote and i clicked on file open but the powerpoint presentations weren't in bold so I couldn't click on them. I put them in my documents rather than on my desktop but I still couldn't open them, also I tried the other suggestion of clicking and pressing control and trying to pick the application to open them but Keynote wasn't in bold so I couldn't click on it. Any other suggestions whould be appreciated.

New to Keynote - need help with clipart please

Hi All,
First let me say that I am NOT computer savvy. I just got iWork '09 yesterday, and have been using PowerPoint for Mac up to this point. It's easy to pull clipart into a PPT presentation, but I'm having difficulty doing this in Keynote. Is there such a thing as a Mac or Keynote clipart gallery, similar to the one offered by Microsoft Office, that I can access while working in my presentation and easily drop onto a slide? The only things (that I'm aware of) that Keynote will allow me to insert into my document now are photos from iPhoto, music and video. I desperately need clipart, though!

And download to your heart's content for clip art. Go to http://www.freeplaymusic.com/ to acquire all the royalty music you want (not free but, royalty free unless you're educational, then it's free) .
Yes, these things cost money, but considering the differences in price between Microsoft products and Apple products, you can do this for a long time and it's still cheaper. Add since you get to use things not seen as often coming from MS gallery, then it is the creative person's treasure chest.

Beachball - need to shutdown - help please

Help. It's happened again and I'm embarassed to admit that I only have just over 10% free drive space.
I was running VPC and inserted a USB diskette drive and now I've had a beach ball revolving for over an hour. I'd like to safely shut-down. The system clock has stopped.
I have entered expose mode and can see several Safari windows, 2 Mail Windows, a Windows Excel window (running when I inserted the USB) and a VPC window. I can select any Mac application just by clicking the window and it shows me the control bar at the top of screen. However, I cannot get a cursor to access the controls.
Pressing command - option - escape will not close any applications.
I'm not sure what this will do to my open VPC image if I press the off switch.
Any suggestions please?

I cannot believe how instable my system is. I switched to Mac to get a reliable system, but I cannot do without Windows entirely, hence my heavy use of VPC.
Today I got the small grey screen "You need to restart your computer". I was running VPC at the time. All apps were closed except Windows Explorer (the file system). The cause was merely unplugging my broadband connection. Wow!
On rebooting VPC I got:
"One of the specified disk images could not be opened. The disk image file is not the correct file type or uses a file format that is unsupported by this version of Virtual PC."
I "detached" my "drives" 2+3, which were pointing to my Drive2.vhdp and Drive3.vhdp data "drives" and tried again. No luck.
Drive 1 was pointing to Disk1.vhdp, which is a part of my Windows 2000.vpc package. I don't believe that it was pointing there before the crash.

(The Windows 2000.vpc package is an old installation that I don't use but have not deleted. I currently use one called: "Windows 2000 copy 1-011105") which might or might not be a copy of "Windows 2000.vpc." I've had so many problems, it's hard to say.
I then tried and successfully detached the Disk1.vhdp and received a warning:
The hard drive data previously used by Drive 1 is no longer contained in this PC document. The data has been moved to a separate Virtual Hard Drive Document "Windows 2000 copy 1-011105 Disk1.vhdp".
On examining the above package I find:
BaseDrive.vhd 14.45GB (size about right) dated last night when I last closed VPC
MainPackageFile Alias
UndoDrive1.vud dated at the time of the problems.
On examining my "Windows 2000 copy 1-011105.vpc7 I find:
Configuration.plist
IconCache
MainPackageFile Alias
StartMenu.plist
Do you have a suggestion as to how I can rescue my above mentioned BaseDrive.vhd please? This is more recent than my last back-up.

Shutdown Help Needed

I have an Intel iMac and all of a sudden I cannot shutdown nor restart the computer. I can force a shutdown by holding down the cmd-cntrl-power keys. Any suggestions on what needs to be done? Thanks.

1. Which Intel iMac do you have?
2. What version of OS X is installed on it, your profile shows 10.4.1 and in Jan. 2006 the first Early Intel Core Duo's had 10.4.4 or higher installed from the factory.
3. Was an earlier OS X from a older Mac possibly (PPC) migrated to the Intel iMac that is now causing a problem?

Keynote Update Help Needed

Hi.
When I start Keynote 4.0 ('08), it informs me that there is an update (4.0.2) available, and that I should use the software manager to obtain the update. However, the software manager does not find the update, and it is not hidden or ignored (at least I can not toggle the Reset Ignored Updates menu item in the Software Update application to determine if it is indeed ignored). How can I correct this injustice and download and install my update?
Incidentally, Pages 3.0 ('08) does this as well, but Numbers 1.0 ('08) does not.

Pages 5.5.1 - Failure to create/open documents - Error message/App shutdown - Help

Had this problem after updating to the new version.
I've deleted and re-instaleld the app but the problem still exists.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since you have Pages '09 documents it is safe to assume that you own Pages '09. If you bought it from the App Store you should be able to download it again to your new machine. If you have the install disks, you can install it on the new machine and the find the updater for it.
Or you can go to the Apple Store (make an appointment) and get them to install iWork '09 on your machine. They will do this for free if you can provide any proof that you owned it on your older machine. They may do it for free anyway.
As others said, your '09 files should open, so perhaps they were '08 files. In which case you must open with '09 first. For this reason Apple will sometimes give you a free version of iWork '09. If you are not near an Apple Store try phoning them. No guarantees, but others have reported that Apple sent them a free DVD.
Worse comes to worse, look to buy it on Amazon or eBay, but try Apple first.

The database is permanently shutdown help?

I work with oracle from one month a go and never give me this problem, I use Windows XP and Oracle 10g
after I restart my computer the database is shutdown and I can't open it at all. also I see that after the restart I coudn't find the init.ora file, so someone can show me the init.ora file, and I just change parameters and try, or someone can tell me what kind of problem is.

my sys tables are empty, but I have data in tables in target schema of warehouse builder. So how can access this tables if my schema is named "schema":

Keynote movie help

i was wondering if u could insert a .mov file on a slide in keynote play the movie and keep it playing while you play through the slides?

Not sure if this would work, but a suggestion.
Instead of running the "base audio" from inside Keynote, start your audio (timed appropriately) from iTunes. Run the Keynote with the individual audio tracks as needed.
The tricky part here would be the ducking. Maybe (a long shot here) you could install Audio Hijack which allows you to add effects to different audio streams in realtime (among other features) and using the free VST plugin Sidechain/Ducking (http://freemusicsoftware.org/category/free-vst-effects-2/sidechains) you could the base audio duck using this method. Never tried this but could be something for you to look into.

I can't download pages, numbers and keynote. Help?

So I got my macbook in November of 2013. It is running now on Yosemite and my iPad mini's software is up to date. I had gotten Pages, Keynote and Numbers for free when I had bought the mac. But i was never able to download the three apps onto my iPad mini. Any clue on what I should do to get the apps???

Click here for information. Having gotten the Mac OS X version of them for free doesn't itself entitle you to the iOS versions; you need to separately qualify to get them.

New To Keynote, Please Help!

I created a brochure using Pages and would like to make a page-by-page keynote presentation of the brochure. The problem is, when I try to copy and paste each page into a slide, the result in keynote looks different (worse) due to the less complex text interface. Is there anyway to get the exact pages I have in Pages into Keynote?

you export each page as a PDF and place those on each slide.

Keynote Audio Help

I have a presentation that is around 100 slides, and for the last 15-20 slides or so, I need to play music. I only need the music for these last slides. I can start the music where I need it to start simply by dragging the sound file onto that particular slide. But when I move to the next slide, obviously the music stops. Is there any way for me to have this music continue for the remainder of the presentation and play through the remaining slides? Hope someone has an easy answer, or a possible work around that will do what I need to do. Thanks in advance.
