Keynote stopped working

So I'm out of town over the weekend and the night before a big presentation, I try and pull up my keynote presentation, and keynote will not open. I've used keynote to give this presentation many times on this old iBook of mine, but it has just stopped working! I've tried reinstalling keynote but afterwards, it still does not open. HELP!!

Thanks for your help. I tried your suggestion, but the .ibooks file had the same issues. Then I tried creating a new file and bringing a Keynote file in...still the same problem. Then I reinstalled iBooks Author...same problem. Then I got to thinking maybe its got more to do with my iPad. So I was just getting ready to reinstall iBooks. Anyway, I disconnected my iPad from my iMac, and for some reason, everything started working. Bizarre. Anyway, thanks again for your help! :-)

Keynote stops working when I try to open a document

Dear all,
I finished a very important presentation today and saved it as keynote doc, and export it as ppt document so I could use it with the PC.
Now I am trying to open same document in Keynote and the whole mac becomes EXTREMELY SLOW and freezes. I have Mac Office 08 also and I have just tired to open ppt version of same document in Microsoft Powerpoint. Same result: mac becomes extremely slow and opening of 15MB document seems like eternity.
What's wrong?? What to do?

Thank you for your response. I've attached screnshots showing the version details for kernal32.dll and ntdll.dll. I also looked at the updates to see which might have been installed when the problem started. Unfortunately there are 15-20 updates every month. I didn't take note of when the error started to occur. At first it only affected my ability to open files from within the project (i.e. file->open->Source, etc). Then I went back to modify a project that had a SelectFilePopup and found that that wouldn't work either.

Keynote Remote - Stops working

Hi,
My remote seems to work fine at first, but if I don't switch the slide for say 5 minutes, it seems to stop working. I see the current slide but if I try to switch, it won't let me. No error message or anything. Anyone having a similar problem or know of a way to turn on some debugging?

Using Keynote Remote

Why does keyboard input stop working in Keynote?

Everytime is switch between Keynote windows (when multiple Keynote decks are open) or when I switch between spaces (Mission Control) Keynote seems to lose focus of the keyboard.
For example, after switching to a Keynote window, I select an object and Keynote doesn't respond to the key strokes. So say I select a text object and start to type or press Cmd key and "C" to copy the text object, it doesn't work. I have to select and deselect the object a few times before the key strokes are recognized by Keynote.
Very annouying, given that I use keynote at work all day long.
Is there a solution?
I am using Keynote version 5.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.2.

I have this same problem, since updating to 10.7, same thing happens in all the iWorks apps.
This is beyond annoying, its a massive waste of time for me. Its as if the program loses its connection, and you either have to select and deselect multiple times for click the program icon again.
What is Apple doing about this?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:

Smart Folder stopped working

When I first installed Tiger, I created a Smart Folder to display all the Presentations on my Powerbook. A simple "Kind: Presentations" Smart Folder did the job perfectly, displaying all Keynote and PowerPoint presentations.
Recently, this Smart Folder stopped working properly - only giving 4 or 5 results instead of the 50-or-so it returned previously. Using Spotless, I completely rebuilt the Spotlight index.
Now, my Smart Folder only displays Apple Keynote documents - no PowerPoint presentations.
Has Apple redefined the results "Kind: Presentations" returns, so as only to return Keynote results? Or is something wrong here?
(Edited to add: A Spotlight "Kind:Presentations" returns both PowerPoint and Keynote files, but not a Smart Folder!)

I've seen people complaining about Word docs not getting classified correctly, it seems to be a result of something odd with the new MicroSoft Office mdimporter. It wouldn't surprise me at all that the peculiarity extends to presentations as well. See this thread:

You might try this:
Bring up a new Find window, in the criteria drop down window select Other, then in the dialog box select Raw Query. In the Raw Query field paste in this:
(kMDItemContentTypeTree = 'public.presentation')
and see if it pulls up the PowerPoint presentations. If so save it as a Smart Folder. If the MS mdimporter has been revised so that it isn't passing correct information to the Spotlight database this may not work. But it is worth a shot.

HELP! Suddenly Flash SWF files stopped working in pres!

Hi,
I'm not sure what's causing the problem, but Flash files in my Keynote 08 presentation stopped working and I can't figure out what happened. Would it be because I upgraded to a more recent version of 10.5 or that I inadvertently moved the original Flash files somewhere else or another thing? Any advice?

I've got an external firewire drive with a bootable 10.5.1 partition, so I'm thinking I'll downgrade to 7.2. Your comment got me wondering if 7.2 will run on 10.5.1 or do I need 10.4?
I'm really only going to be using this FW drive to run Keynote presentations and possibly Photoshop. Do you think I'll be OK?

The inspector stopped working after update

The inspector stopped working after an update. When I click on the inspector button it says "An unexpected error has occured. Please quit and reopen Keynote." Quitting and reopening Keynote does not fix the problem. Inspector does not work in Pages either (it doesn't do anything when I click on it), but it does work in Numbers. I also am having problems opening files created in Numbers before the update.

Quicktime 7.6.6 VISTA Export Controller Has stopped Working

Hi,
with Quicktime 7.6.6 on my Vista PC, when I start it I get a Message "Export Controller has stopped working"
When starting it within a browser (eg: Apple Website to watch a keynote) I get a message "Quicktime player has stopped working"
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Any tips please ?

Ive got the same problem with Quicktime 7.5.5 on my PC but im not using itunes. It only happens when I open the first instance of Quicktime then it pauses for a while before launching. Every other instance opens normally, but if I close them all and open a new instance, it happens again.
Maybe no biggy cause it eventually opens anyway it doesnt bother me so much but it still pretty frustrating.

Iwork stopped working

Hello,
I am running Mavericks 10.9.1 on an Imac 24" 3.06 Intel. As of february 02, when I try to open any of the iwork 5 apps, their icon bounces a couple of times and then just disappears. I have installed the updates for each of the apps so I currently have the following installed :
pages 5.1
numbers 3.1
keynote 6.1
The last of the above updates was installed shortly before I noticed the problem on January 25th.
Also, the app store stopped working as well, doing the same thing described above. However, following another thread, I reinstalled Mavericks from the autoreinstall option and that fixed the app store problem. Now i just cannot get any of the iwork apps to open.
This is extremely frustrating as I have come to depend on the cloud synching iwork with my ipad for use in my classroom. Now I have double the workload doing everyhting on MS Office and converting everything to PDF. Anybody out there with this same problem?

Hyperlinks stop working when moving QT movie to another computer

Hi.
When setting objects as hyperlinks to other slides (Next, Previous, Frist slide) and copying the exported QuickTime movie to another computer, all hyperlinks stop working. Clicking a hyperlink will prompt a message on WindowsXP.
The meaning of this is that Keynote presentations with hyperlinks cannot be distributed to other computers via QuickTime. This is very severe.
Because of the special architecture of QuickTime, using the arrow keys to navigate back, forces the user to step-back build-by-build and only a hyperlink can do this in one step.
I've researched discussion groups and websites and found no viable solution. The only solution offered was not to use slide transitions, but this negates the whole advantage over Powerpoint.
can you suggest any solution? I would even consider opening the qt movie with a text editor to find and replace the hyperlinks, but to what?

Make sure the windows machine has the absolutely newest version of QT on it. There were bugs in QT for Windows, but the last version corrected this issue.

Preview window in Build Inspector stopped working

I installed Keynote '09 this morning to finish an iPad presentation. I've worked all day and am nearly finished, when suddenly, the preview window in the Build inspector stopped working. Now, it is not showing any of my changes and none of my new actions work properly. What did I do? How do I fix this. I am on a deadline!!!!

Well, I just seemed to have solved the problem...at least as I was experiencing it. As mentioned, I have my Motion content on an external drive, so I decided to revisit this.
I had installed all my Final Cut Studio content on the external drive using the "Content Installer" (after first installing the apps to my laptop). When opening Motion for the first time, it couldn't find the content so I manually typed in the appropriate path...or so I thought:
250GB Drive : Final Cut Studio Content : Motion Content.
Oddly enough, a few things worked this way, but not everything. It turns out I had to specifically point one folder deeper:
250GB Drive : Final Cut Studio Content : Motion Content : Motion
After doing this, all my content seems to preview, although there still are a few anomalies. Some things have to be clicked on more than once to preview, or sometimes I must preview something else first, then try the desired effect a second time. In some cases waiting quite a while produces something.
I'll try moving the cursor about as Mabou suggested and see if that makes any difference.
At least I'm getting somewhere!

Microsoft Office in parallels stops working

Hi. My mom upgraded to an iMac a few months ago. She works freelance as a translator, and thus uses several electronic dictionaries. Unfrotunately, these dictionaries are only available for windows, and so are some of the spell checks that she uses.
Consequently, she works in microsoft office 2010 installed in parallels 7 with windows 7 home premium (OS X lion) (yes, before you make fun of me, I do know about pages, numbers and keynote, its the compatibility with some of the spel checkers that is the problem).
So the problem is, when she tries to run a spell check, a window appears saying: "microsoft word have stopped working and need to close". This also happens ocasionally at random intervals.
Is this a microsoft problem, a parallels problem, or just a simple setting somewhere? At the moment, she has to transfer every document to her old computer to perfor a spell check.

This could be either a Word problem, a Windows problem, or (least likely) a Parallels problem. It could well be a problem with Windows malware, particularly if she's not running good, well-updated malware protection in Windows on that system. It's not a Mac problem, however, so I suggest you take this issue up in either the Parallels forum, Microsoft's forums for Word or Windows, or a web site oriented to Windows troubleshooting.

First you can try;
Try restarting PC and run itunes again!
If error again than perform clean instal of itunes (uninstal first and than instal again)!

I looked in the folder from which I want to synch photos, but there is no such thing as an "ipod photo cache" in that folder, or sub-folders, as suggested in the link which you were nice enough to provide.
I have also tried removing photos from my iPad2 Photos App, and "iTunes has stopped working" shows up again as soon as I click on the "Synch photos from" button.
