Keynote timing off

Two Keynote issues/questions:
Can the presenter note field be enlarged?
How can I ensure that all the timing cues (delays, dissolves, transitions, etc.) run the SAME each time. There seems to be LOTS of variation.

I subscribe to a list serve that had this very topic today...only it had to do with PPT. Knowing some on THIS site have complained about Keynote's timings, and some have even suggested PPT has no problem, I submit this:
"Michael wrote:
I rarely have success timing PowerPoint presentations to music. When
you set a slide to advance after, for example, 15 seconds, it
advances 15 seconds _after loading_. The problem is that the amount
of time it takes to load the slide will be slightly different from
computer to computer. This slight difference, compounded over several
slides, adds up to throw your timings off.
Jeff adds:
Michael's right, it's very rare to get a powerpoint show to time the same on
two different computers; too many hardware variables can affect it. It's
better if you make a presentation file in power point than a slideshow, but
it can still vary. The best way to go is, as suggested a few times already,
make a video file, VHS, or DVD out of it from your computer."
So, it would appear neither product really gets it right yet. I just wonder if in the future Apple can add some kind of internal clock to Keynote and have it read the time code in movies, etc, managing everything and keeping it in time. That might fix the QT delay problems, but I have no idea why the same program on the same machine will give different results...that one has me stumped.

  • RE:  Keynote to Power Point; timing off

    I created a file in KEYNOTE with multiple transitions on the BULLET POINTS. When I EXPORTED to POWER POINT then sent to my client the transition timing was off. For example, a TWO SECOND DISSOLVE translated into 1/2 SECOND. Is this a systemic problem with KEYNOTE?
    Thanks, Andy

    how do i covert keynote to power point?

  • Keynote timing

    I am trying to put together a wedding presentation with a song. Got the song on but can't get the timing of the slides to correspond. The transitions are off. Is there an easy way to do this? Also at the end of the song i need to cut the music ending and add a small video clip inserted but it plays over the song. I need the song to stop when the slide with the video clip plays. How do i do this??

    You might want to build your presentation in iMovie versus Keynote. It's a lot easier plus you can make the photos more interesting with the Ken Burns effect. There are probably better methods but what I do is print the lyrics and time it the song via iTunes (e.g., first verse is 6 seconds, etc.). Once I have the song timed, I import the individual photos into iMovie, set the correct timing for each photo, set the desire visual effect for each photo, and then add the song to the photo string. After you've done this then add your video to the end. Then export your movie via one of the options under the Share tab. As great as Keynote is - it does has some limitations adding music to a presentation is one of them. Hope this helps.

  • Access restrictions timing off by 1 hour

    I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem.  I have set access restrictions on my WRT610N router and they execute an hour earlier than set.
    I checked the time zone settings, the system clock and all seem correct. I have a rule that is supposed to turn off access to the Internet at 11:55pm. However, the rule gets executed at 10:55pm.
    This was happening on my first WRT610N which was also dropping network connections. So, I returned that unit and got a replacement.
    The new unit does not drop connections but has the same timing problem.  The only solution I have found is to change the time zone to the next one that is 1 hour behind my time zone.
    Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this same situation.

    My ISP is on the same town as I am. The information they are supplying appears to be correct as my WRT54G uses the same information and its rules execute properly.
    I think there is a problem with the WRT610N. My solution is temporary I hope that Linksys will fix this problem.

  • Keynote Prints off the Page

    Since upgrading to the latest version of iWork apps, Keynote now prints off the left side of the page. I've noticed that there's no place to set margins. Is there anything I can do to get them to print normally? The current work around has been to shrink it until it prints the whole thing on paper but that just looks funny with all the extra white space on the top, right and bottom.

    This issue has been reported in the discussion many times, we have to hope Apple are working on a fix.

  • Metronome timing off

    I'm trying to record from a midi controller - just a simple drum track - and I'm having a lot of trouble getting the timing right. What I think is happening is this: When I play lots of notes, logic slows down. This causes my notes to show up in the matrix editor as if I had played them early.
    My own timing may suck, you might be thinking.
    OK, so I did a little experiment. I turned the volume on the metronome up and the drum track way down. I start recording with the metronome set to click while recording. Listening to the metronome, I then hit a ton of random keys on the midi controller. I swear I can hear the metronome slowing down a little. Stop hitting random keys and the metronome comes back up to speed.
    My computer is a 1 Ghz powerbook, so it's not that slow, and I shouldn't be maxing it out with my dorky little drum track.
    Do other people have this same problem? What do you do about it, besides quantize later? I hate quantizing.
    Thanks for any hints,
    -Chris

    I don't tap out my drums on a keyboard. I either write them in the matrix editor, or I edit loops that are close to what I want. So, I never play drums to the metronome, but I do use it when I start doing certain guitar and bass parts, and I have never heard it off from my drum tracks at all.

  • IPhoto '09 Slideshow timing off

    I'm using iPhoto '09 with all the latest patches. I have 10.6.1 OS X.
    I have a slideshow of 99 pictures in iPhoto using the Snapshots theme. I have set the duration for all slides to 7.1 seconds, which should yield a slideshow duration of 11 minutes and 43 seconds, give or take a second or two. However, when I export the slideshow out to a quicktime DV format, it is only 10:57... almost a minute shy of what it should be.
    This is a problem because I have the last picture in the set timed out with the fading out of the music, if iPhoto would just follow my math / timing I told it to.
    So I go back and set the timing for 7.2 seconds on every slide... exact same result... total run time of 10:57. I do it again and adjust the slide duration to 7.5 seconds... exact same result... 10:57. So I quit iPhoto and go back in and rebuild the slideshow again, and this time set it to 8 seconds a slide... export to quicktime DV... exact same result... 10:57, ending a minute too early and cutting of the last minute of my song.
    The kicker is this... The slideshow was 100 (vs. 99 as it is now) and when I exported it to quicktime DV it came out to 12 minutes and 4 seconds long. The only thing I did was delete one photo and re-export it and it cut the slideshow down over a minute. ***???? Shouldn't it just make the slideshow 7 or so seconds shorter when I delete one photo????
    I'm so ****** about this crazy crap... makes me feel like I'm using a PC instead of a Mac when this arbitrary and illogical crap happens for no good reason.
    And before you say "just use the fit slideshow to music", let me tell you, it always errors out. I have three songs that I fused together into one .wav file using iMovie HD. It is 12:05 long. When I add it as the only song it iPhoto's custom playlist on the slideshow, and then enable the fit slideshow to music option, it tells me that the music I selected is too short for so many photos, and that I need at least 12:03 worth of music... even though I have 12:05 worth of music selected! How is that too short for 99 or 100 photos? That's like 7 seconds a photo, which is fairly long for each to display.
    This is microsoft dumb.

    If you still have a copy of iMovie HD 6 I suggest you use that to add the music to the slideshow. Create the slideshow without music, import it into iMovie HD 6, and add your audio tracks where you can trim, fade in/out, and have precise placement.

  • Slideshow w/ timer, navigation problem (once clicked timing off)

    I have a AS3 flash slide show that uses the timer method with a wait() function to change slides.  So the preloader is on frame one and the first slide is on frame two and the second slide is on frame three and so on.  At each slide frame there is a wait(7) statement so that the swf moves ahead to the next frame every seven sec. When I create a nav element that uses the gotoAndPlay function to target each frame, everytime the nav is clicked and goes to the corresponding slide the timing of the slides is all messed up.
    Can anyone help me by suggesting a solution to this?  I may be nieve but it seems that once the button in the nav is clicked the timer keeps going on the slide the user was on when the nav was clicked.  How can I clear the wait() timer on click?  When I just add a remove.EventListener to the button the function in the frame is not available to the button though they are both in the same frame.
    Below is the wait() I am using in the root stage timeline:
    function wait(duration:Number) {
        stop();
        var timer:Timer=new Timer(duration*1000,1);
        timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, onWaitTimerComplete);
        timer.start();
    function onWaitTimerComplete(e:TimerEvent):void {
        e.target.removeEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER_COMPLETE, onWaitTimerComplete);
        stage.removeEventListener(Event.RESIZE, onStageResize);
        play();
    Below is the code for the click inside the movieClip button:
    b1.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);
    function onClick( event:MouseEvent):void
    MovieClip(root).gotoAndPlay(2);
    THIS PROJECT IS LOCAL SO NO LINK AVAILABLE

    Look further int the Timerclass to see what other methods you can make use of.  It has a reset() and a stop() method that could get you what you want.  One thing you will probably need to do though is to decalre the Timer outside of the function so that it has scope outside of the function so thaat you can have other functions' code control it.

  • Imported captivates into a separate captivate, timing off

    I have a slide that is meant to be an online interactive tool to determine "yes, or no" in 16 categories.
    It is a table with 16 squares but I needed an animation that would allow the user to click and change each box from "no" to "yes" and back again.
    I created a captivate that was 2 slides - a red "X" for no and a green checkmark for yes.
    I then published this captivate as a flash / html5.
    Then I created the main interactive, a slide with 16 squares which I then inserted the "yes/no" flash into 16 times.
    When I insert the "yes, no" animation into the final slide everything looks great.
    However, upon preview and publish, a user can click on the squares to change them from no to yes, but sometimes clicking on one square (animation) also changes 2 squares.
    In the screenshot, I have the view so that you can see the main slide with the animations (on left), then the preview (on right), and I have clicked on the first "x" to change it to a checkmark, but when I clicked on the first box, another box was affected and changed to a checkmark as well.  I can't decide if it is a timing issue, but my goal is that a user can click on any of the boxes and only affect that box.
    Thank you for your ideas and thoughts.

    I agree with Lieve.  Not a good idea.
    If you had just placed the images of the tick and cross in each square and used Advanced Actions to toggle them, then you would also have been able to have those actions set User Variables and track which answers the user had given.  That data could have been used elsewhere in the same project to modify the experience.

  • Timing off with Garage Band file

    I created a song in Garage Band, and opened it in Logic.
    The Logic metronome is off sync with the Garage Band file, even though the tempo is correct.
    Does anyone know why?
    Thanks,
    Avi

    That's not the problem. The song is at 126 bpm throughout.
    I did a quick test with another Garage Band beat, and everything was OK. I have no idea why the metronome would be off with the other tune I created in Garage Band. Very annoying.

  • Timing off.

    I am extremely new to AE, and know very little about video. I was given a job of adding some info to a video which I was able to find tuts for. Finally finished it and need to export it.
    Background of project:
    The original video was an HD .wmv file that is 1920 x 1080.
    I added this movie to a new composition. I created it at 1280 x 720 (which is still a reduced aspect ratio of the 1920x1080 or 16:9 or 1.78.) It is set up as square pixels.
    The frame rate of the original is 29.96 (this is what Quicktime inspector says).
    My composition is 29.97.
    When I added new layers to add the text the client wanted, I added it for those particular frames (time) the text should appear on the stage. When I scrub through or preview in AE, all works wonderful. It is simple text with a simple fade in/fade out. Problem comes when I render. The final .mov file won't show the added text until 3 or 4 seconds after it was intended (placed on the stage, so essentially later than it should). This happens to all of my additions.
    I don't know enough to troubleshoot anymore than I already have. It seems silly to place the text 3-4 seconds on the stage prior to when I actually want it to appear, because then I'm guessing with the intro/outro of that text with relation to the movie.

    Yes, that is correct. I have been playing with render options and other options like that and was able to get it to come close, so yes, it is scrubbing just fine, but the final output is "off".
    How do I change (or match) data rate?
    The original video came from a outside agency. I was tasked with "customizing" it by adding a few lines of text for a particular distributor in some areas of the video that would easily show the text over flat portions of color. They formatted the video in 3 output types (not sure what the original software used was to create it)... I choose the HD version (for best clarity). It is a .wmv file. (the other one is also a .wmv file, but lower, and the third is a lo-res .flv).
    Here's what the format states from the QuickTime inspector: Windows Media Video 9 Standard, 1920 x 1080, Millions. Windows Media Audio 9 Professional, Stereo 44.100 kHz. FPS 29.96. Data Size: 219.7 MB. Data rate: 11.18 Mbits/s.
    My machine is a 2x2.4 Ghz Quad-Core Intel with 32GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ram. I am using CS4 (still).
    The composition settings are: HDV/HDTV 720 29.97. Width 1280px x 720px (still 16.9 aspect ratio of 1920x1080). Pixel aspect ration is square. Frame Rate is 29.97. Resolution: Full (1280x720, 3.5 MB per 8bpc fram) and the duration is 2;37;00.
    The render settings I was using are: Quality:Best, Resolution:Full, Size 1280x720. Time span: Length of comp (used this after trying work area). Frame rate 29.97.
    Format: Quicktime Movie, Audio: 48.000.
    Hope that's enough. If I'm missing anything, let me know and I'll provide it.
    The render output I originally was using is:

  • Midi Timing off?

    I just bounced a virtual synth from midi to a audio track and when I zoom in really close the audio doesn't match up sometimes its a few hundred samples ahead of the beat or a few hundred samples behind, I used no quantization so it should be spot on. Is there any way to correct this besides manually cutting out each sound and placing it by hand in the arrange window?

    Matthew Usnick wrote:
    Ah, OK
    Just curious, why do you do it through your mixer?
    Because I have a hard time mixing "in the box". I'm old-skool in this respect. I'm used to having a mixing board where I have hardware mute/solo/level for groups as well as individual channels. Faster than mousing, for sure. Hardware rules! So if I'm doing an orchestration, Out 1/2 is high strings. Out 3/4 is low strings. Out 5/6 is brass, and so on. My projects, then, consist of two files: the Logic file and the associated mix file (as stored in my D8B).
    Also, I've also got a bevy of outboard synths, so the board acts as a preamp, gives me EQ/compression/etc. on each channel, and the latency through the board is significantly less than what Logic offers vis a vis the External Instrument plug even with a buffer size of 64.
    But the main advantage is that I can print stems very easily. For example, I can print simultaneous string, brass, woodwind stems from the board onto three new tracks in Logic. TV track? Buss all channels except the vocals and print to a new track in Logic. And simultaneously I can print the vocal (with board-based EQ, etc.) on another track. So no Soundflower hack needed here to print multiple stems at once.
    And with an outboard mixer I don't have any significant latency issues when recording live instruments. While the board is old, its latency specs are superb: at 48KHz the latency is equivalent or better than the specs of an Apogee Symphony system running at 96K.
    edit: and how did you know that that was what the original poster was doing?
    I didn't. I made an assumption
    And thanks for pointing this out. If the OP is mixing ITB I'm thinking that his issue has to do with PDC.

  • Printer keeps coming on and off and making noises by itself

    I can go for days without using the HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw but it keeps making noises.
    If its supposed to save energy, why is it doing anything at all until I click "print" ???????

    Thank you I was using the LCD.  However, I have the IP address open now, I'm under System/Print Quality and the choices are:
    After Power On - Off thru 60 mins
    Calibration Timing - Off thru 168 hrs
    Calibrate Now - check box
    Maybe, when they gave me new Firmware it chaned the options?
    Thanks for the heads up about the IP route because that's a lot better than the LCD way.

  • Poor timing for update of a million rows in TimesTen

    This is not a scientific test but I am dissappointed in my results.
    I created SALES table in TT 11.2.1.4.0 in the image of Oracle 11g table sh.SALES. Data also came from SALES as well. Just make sure that you have a million rows in your version of sh.SALES in Oracle. Spool it out to /var/tmp/abc.log as follows:

  • Switching Mirroring On, Then Off Still A Problem With 10.5.2 Update

    I installed the latest system update and found that the problem with Keynote and mirroring still hasn't been fixed. This issue was introduced with Leopard.
    Turning on mirroring during a presentation . . . then turning it off, the Keynote window is thrown onto the secondary display (the video projector screen). That means, during the process of changing the mirroring, the projector can't be blackened, because you have to be able to "fish" the Keynote window off from the secondary display back onto the computer screen. What a pain.

    I'm sorry, but the way you write your sentences is very hard to understand.
    Space each sentence with two spaces, and start each sentence with a capital letter on the first letter of the first word.
    I'm going to try to tackle it, but if I misunderstand what you are saying, just please clarify, and don't take it personally.
    No one here is aware of what Apple is "aware of" since this is a user to user forum. Thus to answer your question Apple may be aware of many things, but only by calling AppleCare:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
    Will they truly be made aware by their users as long as you start a case number with them and keep track of it.
    The fact your machine's hard disk is recognized by the installer, but not on the desktop suggests that your Finder preferences are not showing the hard disk or other mounted discs.
    Also I strongly recommend figuring out a way to backup your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    Whether by adding a second hard drive to your MacPro and installing an operating system on it to see if it can recognize the first hard drive, or putting your Mac Pro in Target Disk Mode and connecting it to another Intel Mac.
    Once your data is backed up, we can explore other options for why your hard disk is not appearing in the Finder. Are there any other places it is invisible?
