Keynote to .pptx resulting in a corrupted file?

I've just recently updated both my home and work iPad's version of Keynote to v2.2.1. Unfortunately, there's a serious problem. If I try to send the file to PowerPoint (via email or Dropbox etc) the resulting .pptx is unreadable by Microsoft PowerPoint or the iPad's new PowerPoint app. It claims that "PowerPoint was unable to display some of the text, images..." and has replaced all my slides in the resulting file with blank slides.
Clearly the content is still there because I've been able to see it if:
A) I re-import the .pptx back into Keynote from my Sent mail folder
B) I preview the file in the browser version of my gmail account
C) I preview the file in various "PPTX Repair" apps (that seem a bit dodgy and far too expensive for a hopefully one-off problem).
Strangely this only happens if I send a Keynote file that I already had on my iPad prior to the update (even files that have exported to PowerPoint just fine up until now). If I create a new Keynote file, it exports fine. If I copy a slide from one of my old files into the new file and export it, it fails just as above.
This is a huge problem as I've been using my iPad for years to create teaching resources in Keynote, which I need to send to colleagues as PowerPoint files.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi I'm having this problem too since I updated it's cauing me a lot of problems at work. if anybody has any adives that would be great

I have checked with System File Checker - SFC and the report states that Windows resource protection found some corrupt files  in the system but could not be rectified or removed by it.  How to resolve this issue.  I have uploaded Event Viewer
report and named it evwr and sent this compressed file to Skype.  Kindly help me to resolve/rectify this problem. Thanks. Vaidyanathan

    Hi, Vaidyanathan
I suggest you follow these steps to solve this problem:
    1. Run “chkdsk/r” to  check whether the hard drive has bad sectors and repair it.
    2. Sometimes you may need to try several times to run “sfc
/scannow”. If it does not work, you can try to run “sfc
/scannow” command at boot , the files may be locked sometimes.
    3. You can also try to manually fix the corrupted file:
Here is a link for reference :
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

4.If the problem still exits ,please upload the log to OneDrive and paste the download link for further analysis.
    <var>%WinDir%</var>\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
5.You can also choose to return system to a previous state at which your system is functioning fine with restore point. (please note that you will lose some recent settings )

  • Sharing keynote file as a pdf results in a corrupt file?

I have added graphics to the keynote presentation by copying from Preview.app.
When I share and export as  PDF, it crashes acrobat and other pdf viewers on
    Windows and Linux.
This is a reproducible error and has happened to a couple of my colleagues recently.
This is a new bug as I have used this workflow many times in the past without problems.
How can I avoid this? Is this a bug?

Is your problem possibly related to the Open Type Font Problem occuring in OS X 10.6.7 and later?

I have no fix at the moment, only to use a Mac running an older OS X installed. The PDF-Creation for iWork Files works there correctly

  • Disk problem in MacBook Pro (hardware or corrupted files?)

I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a 15" MBP 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 GB RAM (added 1 to the original setup.)
A few months ago I replaced the original 120 GB hard drive, as it was getting full and making my computer slower. The new one is a 350 GB 5400 rpm Western Digital drive. I did this myself, following the instructions in ifixit.com, as I have done it in the past with other machines, including my wife's MBP, that is working fine.
In the first OS install I used migration assistant and recreated the original user exactly as in the old disk. After a couple of months of use the computer started to get slower and presented permission problems that didn't seem serious (used Disk Utility to check). After a while, there was also a report of problems on disk verification, that at one point couldn't be repaired with Disk Utility. I was able to get rid of the problem for a while using Disk Warrior, but at some point the disk problems appeared again and I had to do a new OS install from zero.
This time I formatted the hard drive writing zeros to correct possible physical errors and did a clean install. Used migration assistant to copy only my user's documents and library. After a couple of weeks of running the laptop without problems, I am having again reports of disk errors that Disk Utility can't repair. Disk Warrior can't access the drive and Tech Tool Pro reports 72 bad sectors.
    My question is:
Is this definitely a hardware problem that will be solved by replacing the hard drive again, or is it possible that this is being the result of some corrupt files on my user's library (as the problem only appears after a while)?

    ign wrote:
Is it normal that the drve appears to be OK after an OS install and that the physical problem only appears after a while?
If you zero it, yes. That's exactly what zeroing does, "mapping" the HD so bad sectors/blocks are not used. But if a HD is dying, more bad areas will show up. It's time to replace the HD.

  • Corrupted files with Keynote 08

    Hi,
I will try to be as clear as possible because the problem I have is potentially dangerous for any Keynote user. I have been a Keynote user for many years now and I use it systematically to make conferences and conventions. It's really fun to work with that software. But a problem has recently occured with the latest version.
Like many independant workers, I use to work at my office and later at home. So I backup my files on a portable HD to finish them later. I use a backup program that saves that perfectly
Many days ago, I wanted to reopen a keynote file at home when I realized that there was something wrong. When the file opened, it showed me the state of the file BEFORE the backup. First I thought I had forgotten to do the backup. But when I got back on the Finder, I saw that Quick Look showed me the most recent version of the file. More, with a right click on the file I opened the package and I saw all the images embeded in my keynote presentation. So I returned to Keynote and noticed somrthing really weird : the thumbnails show the right of the slides, but the slides themselves are wrong. I had no choice but to make the slides again and finally thought I had done something wrong. But the same thing occured today. And I am sure the backup has been done correctly.
I have tried to save the document as another name to see what happens. When I do so the file is saved without the embeded images that were previously in the package. To resume, if your right file weighed 80 Mo with 50 Mo of images, when you save your corrupted file, it only weighs 30 Mo.
There has been problems with Keynote in the past. Some images were "lost" after a backup but were present in the package. But this is REALLY a problem because you simply lose your work.
i f any of you has an answer I would appreciate. And I hope I made myself clear, because even in French, it would have been hard to explain correctly.

I have today encountered a problem opening old Keynote presentations on my new iMac running Leopard. It cannot open any of the old presentations on my machine because it says they are damaged.
I also could not open an old Pages file because it says the file is corrupt and there was a .xml missing. I later managed to open this by searching for it directly through the application "Open" command and following the search path. It then gave the usual " This was created by a previous version of Pages..." and the Save as warning, but it did open when I went this route. (I have now saved this document as Pages 08 and all is well).
There seems to be a bug in the iWork '08 suite when it comes to older documents.

  • Can iMac not waking from sleep be caused be a corrupt file

I have had my 27" iMac from July of 2011 (running Montain Lion, 8 GB RAM, 2TB hardrive, 3.4 GHz,Intel i7) for over a year and a half and ever since I bought it, it has had a problem waking from sleep.  I can hear the computer running, but when I click the mouse, keyboard, or power button, it stays asleep and I am forced to do a hard shut down.  Apple has been trying to fix the issue, but to no success.  They have replaced the hard drive, logic board, usb ports, RAM, mouse and keyboard, but it still happens.  They finally threw in the towel and are replacing the machine.  They offered to transfer all of our files (jpgs, mp3s, docs, videos, etc), but one thought occurred to me... what if the sleep issue is caused by a corrupt file?  I highly doubt that is the case, but wonder if any of the experts out here would know better than I.
If we didin't have the data transfered, we would just keep it on an external hard drive instead.  But, I would assume that it wouldn't matter if the files were on internal vs. external because either way, the computer would access the files.  That being the case, if the sleep issue was caused by a corrupt file, the computer would still access it on the external and the sleep issue would resurface.
    So, 2 questions:
Can a corrupt file cause the sleep issue?
If it is true that a corrupt file can cause the sleep issue, would it matter if the corrupt file was accessed from an external drive vs. internal drive?
    Thanks so much!
    Chris

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IPhone won't completely delete songs in iTunes (corrupted files?)

    Hey guys,
I've been working on this issue for nearly two days now, and I just have no idea of how to fix it. The issue: in iTunes, my iPhone says I have multiple albums/songs on the phone, despite me trying multiple times to delete them, and despite them not actually appearing on my phone. These are all songs that have been purchased, and are on the cloud. On my actual iPhone screen, the songs don't appear at all, since I deleted them. But when I plug my phone into my computer, in my iTunes, the songs remain - they're just dimmed, with dotted circles on the left of them. My goal is to have all of these songs deleted from the iPhone altogether, and have that appear both on the phone and in iTunes. It seems like these are corrupted files, but I have no idea how to get rid of them. This is how my iTunes and my iPhone look, right now.
    I've done the following things:
--I've fooled around with redownloading them from the cloud on the iPhone separate from the computer, then plugging it into my computer to delete them in iTunes. But even after I delete them in iTunes, it constantly brings the files back after I sync.
-I checked and unchecked the items in iTunes, before syncing. It lets me delete them; but again, after I click Sync, the files return.
-I deleted all of the music from my iTunes library, and I turned off the Manually Manage Music option, so that the iPhone would sync with the iTunes and delete everything from the phone. The result was all the music on the iPhone being deleted...except these straggling files that I'm having this issue with.
Does anyone have any other tips? I don't want to reset to factory settings because I have a couple work apps on the phone that I can't find links to to redownload them. And the iPhone managing apps are not an option; I can't download apps on this computer. I've been troubleshooting online, but I'm not sure if I'm just doing some of these things incorrectly. Can anyone help me?

I've reset it - erased all content and settings - and they're still there! Though I restored it from the Cloud. Not sure if that would influence it.

  • Corrupt files and RAM upgrade

I have been having trouble with some corrupted Files in Aperture and after reading some discussion groups I was led to beIieve it might be a hardware problem and not just a software bug-some people experiencing similar problems traced it back to bad RAM. I performed a Hardware test w/ the Mac OS start-up disc. The results indicated this error code:
    **Error*code***Error*code**2MEM/104/4:DIMM2/J13
Can anyone help me here? Does this indicate there's a problem w/ the RAM in my DIMM2?
I'm running a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5, OS 10.4.9. Quite a while ago I added 2 1GB RAM modules tro complement the original 512.
    Thanks-

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Where and what did you buy exactly? and yes, you might want to remove the memory, zap the pram/nvram while doing so, rerun Apple Hardware Test. Contact Apple Care and the RAM vendor.
Sometimes two different sets of RAM won't get along, sometimes it will after moving or swapping RAM slots. It could be the chips have slightly off timing or voltage.
Obviously no one wants to run with just 512MB, and it was okay until recently. It would not be the first time that an OS X update also makes better and more use of available RAM to improve performance, and have trouble (soft memory errors or worse, k/p) with "marginal RAM" if I fully understand the MacInTouch: Bad RAM Report.
Try without the 2 x 1GB, try with JUST that (in the first pair of slots) also.
And run AHT and Memtest when you install RAM or make changes.

  • Indesign corrupt files

What is being done to make InDesign better?  Our users seem to have many corruption issues which seem to be resolved either by "cleaning" the files by exporting them to .IDML or by deleting and recreating the preferences file.  I cannot seem to reproduce the scenarios that cause these corruptions ( i.e. doing steps A, B, C results in corruption) but I can be assured every day one of our users has an issue with a corrupted file.  I have done the usual with keeping software up-to-date, operating systems patched, device drivers current, etc., all to no avail.  I would like to know how serious Adobe is about getting to the root cause of these corruption issues.  Obviously file corruption is a known problem if there are knowledge based lists on how to resolve the issues and software has been created to scan and fix corrupted files.  What I am looking for an Indesign fix that prevents these file corruption issues in the first place.  I would like some thoughts and comments about this.

Thanks for the response. This brings up addition questions.
How do I tell if there is a “bad font”?  There doesn’t seem to be any correlation of corruption if “Arial” is used versus “Courier New” versus “Courier”.  If the file becomes corrupt and we export it and import it to clear the corruption, we continue to use the same fonts and continue to work on the project until completion.  If the fonts are bad and we continue to use them, we would never get the project completed as file would corrupt straight away.  When we export and import the corrupt file, we do not notice any font or style change on the screen like a “bad font” got cleared during the process.
As for plug-ins, there seems to be Adobe plugins on these machines.
As for conflicting programs, do you have a list of programs that conflict with InDesign?  How can I tell if another program is causing a conflict? If the person is running InDesign and they open Microsoft Word to perform another task, would this cause InDesign to corrupt its file?
I am currently taking the step of setting up a bare bones machine for a trial.  The machine will have Windows 7 OS, Microsoft Office 2010, and InDesign loaded on it and that’s it.  This hopefully will eliminate conflicts with other programs.

  • Every time I open iPhoto (as of today) after a few seconds the coloured wheel appears and the program become unresponsive. I have tried closing my computer. I assume I have a corrupt file but at the moment I cannot access anything in the program?

Every time I try to open Iphoto '11 (as of today) the coloured wheel appears after a few seconds and the program becomes unresponsive. I assume I have a corrupt file but I cant do anything including accessing help. I have tried closing down and restarting but it dosnt help. Any ideas please?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD

  • Is there an ap for finding/deleting corrupt files on OS X 10.7?

I seem to have a corrupt file(s) which cause my MacBook Pro to freeze inexplicably (and randomly) upon start-up. I've been told that this is a symptom of having a corrupt file.
Is there an an for finding/deleting corrupt files on OS X 10.7?
I'm pretty much bound to my computer and simply don't have the time to go through it manually.
    Thank you.

This is an old post and I am not the person who posted the original query, but I ran your terminal diagnostic and am hoping you are still attending to this forum. I have a mid 2011 macbook Air 11", 256 GB SSD, 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB  1333 MHz DDR3, Mac OS X v. 10.7.5 Lion. I have had various problems in my user homefolder for a while. I have gone through quite a few other troubleshooting and fixing steps, the most extensive following a posting here "Step by Step to fix your mac" by ds store in the Apple forums. These steps helped a lot. I did remove some 3rd party software as part of this process.
My computer is running well in general now, but one thing that has been a recurring problem is problems with move/cut-paste. I researched this online and ACL's being present where they're not supposed to be seems to be an issue. I have used terminal commands to remove ACL's, used Onyx to repair user permissions, rebooted with command-r to reset password screen and reset user permissions. They all help, but then a some point later on the problem recurs. When I run repair disk permissions with either disk utility or onyx I always get this message:
    Repairing permissions for “maggieairHD”
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
ACL found but not expected on “Users”
    Repaired “Users”
    Permissions repair complete
This ALWAYS comes up, even if I run it immediately after running it and haven't done anything else on the computer in between.
I created another user and did not have the same problems I was having at the time with some programs, although I haven't used it that much to be able to really compare. The home folder permissions repair in Onyx comes out the same in that user, though.

    Maggies-MacBook-Air:~ maggieair$
I have removed NoSleep, Caffeine, itunesHelper and Dropbox from login items before and didn't notice any difference, so I put them back. Some of these I know I don't want, like rim/blackberry, adobe AIR. Skype has never worked consistently on this computer. I don't use most of these Services, and I know I had trouble with some that were not compatible with Lion before. I am not using Parallels much now, have been thinking about taking it off as it uses a chunk of my SSD. But I don't feel confident about getting rid of .frameworks etc safely.
I am glad to remove anything I don't use if I know how to do it safely. I am willing to remove anything I do use if it's necessary, but obviously would prefer to find a way to keep things that I find helpful.
    I appreciate any suggestions!

  • Recovering corrupt files -- everything appears to be fine

    Operating System: Mac Osx
    Computer: Macbook Pro
    Program: Adobe Photoshop CS5
I was using adobe photoshop today for painting purposes (not to alter images). I saved the file multiple times just to be safe, and spent about 5 hours or so on a project. I closed the file quite a few times as well and I was able to open it no problem. Upon the last save (which, according to the program, was successful) I decided to take a break from the computer. After saving, I exited the file and proceeded to shut down my mac. It went through its normal procedure of quitting whatever programs were open. For some reason or another, Photoshop wouldn't quit, stopping the shut down. I forced quit (mind you, the file I hadopen previously was already saved and exited out of) and my mac shut down.
A few hours later I booted up my computer to continue working on the project. I clicked on the file and phtoshop opened like normal, began to load the file, and stopped suddenly saying that "There was a problem reading layer data. Read composite data instead?" I clicked yes and got the message "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
I researched the topic on several sites and found the file to be considered corrupt. I downloaded two recovery softwares. The first worked at recovering some layers -- but all of them were ruined beyond use. The second failed to work.
I guess my question is, is there anything else I can do to more successfully recover the file?
I don't understand how it can randomly corrupt. My computer did not simply "poop out on me" or anything. It shut down, like normal. And a force quit never hurt any of my photoshop files in the past.
Also, looking at the "info" regarding the file, the number of bytes remains the same, the layers remain in tact, the file type remains the same, color space and color profiles remain the same, etc. So what exactly is corrupt?
    Please help!
I understand if the file is lost. I just don't understand how.
    Thanks,
    Sam

It's a risk you take with force quitting that your files get corrupt. Often they're fine, sometimes they're not.
    For this Time:
File recovery programs have mixed results... I've normally used them when someone accidentally deletes an important file, but don't know how well they'd work for a corrupted file. Typically I can't recover any corrupted files. But you can hope that your computer just got a little confused and try these things:
First, I'd restart in Safe Mode. Hold down the shift key while restarting your machine. This is supposed to take it back to the last working settings - hopefully the settings that were working to open your document.
Then I would try zapping the p-ram (probably a good idea anyway). Restart your computer and when you hear the 'bong' sound, hold down apple + option + p + r (yes, it takes some dexterity). This will help if it's a problem the Computer is having at Reading the file, which it could be, since you say that the file is the right size and seems to have all the right data.
I'd also run Applejack, which will clear the caches and reset file permissions. Whatever process in PS is trying to read the file may not be able to access all of its parts because the permissions got corrupted but nothing else. This is also a good idea to run anyway.
    It's free from here: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15667/applejack
To run it after installation, restart your computer holding down apple + s until it comes up with white text on a black screen. Type applejack and hit enter. Autopilot should be fine, so type a and enter. Let it do its work and then restart it by typing r.
    Tips for Next Time:
Don't force quit. Let the program cancel the shut down instead, wait for it to quit, and Then shutdown. Usually it's still working on something. In this case it sounds like it was working to save your document. It'll finish working on it next time if it can, and therefore recover your files, but shutting down will stop and reset any processes (normally the point of restarting) and increases the risk of losing your files.
If you saved it, don't worry about recovering the file through the program. It doesn't need to be recovered. The program only thinks it does, because that's the last thing it remembers. (You didn't do this, but it produces similar errors.)

  • Lightroom 5 corrupting files

Hello all - I've read on the forums that some users have experienced file corruption they attribute to Lightroom, while others in response insist Lightroom cannot alter an original raw file in any way.  That said, it sure seems to me that Lightroom is somehow corrupting some of my Nikon NEF files.
This appears typically as lines of "ripped", blocky and unregistered color across the image left to right in horizontally formatted NEF files, as an example. Some portion of the image may also be missing and appears white on screen.  These were files shot in the field and originally imported to a laptop, backed up to external drives, and one of those drives used as the source for import into my desktop editing machine.  The corruption occurs after ingest into the desktop, and seems to happen randomly.
On occasion I am able to discard the preview for the corrupted file and regenerate a preview, which in turn reveals the image is in fact okay.  However, as I encountered this afternoon, the regenerated preview results in no change to the apparent file corruption.  I took this file into One One Photo Suite software, and it originally showed a preview JPG as non corrupt but when I selected the image to edit full screen it would not read the file.  I took the same file then into View NX software where its preview again appeared fine in the grid view, then fine again when I brought the file up on full screen to edit.  I output a TIF version of the file from View NX and the output TIF exhibited the same visual corruption as I found initially in Lightroom. When back in View NX, I select the RAW button in the upper left corner - this seems to generate a new preview in View NX and indeed the new preview file appears corrupt.
The original file on the laptop and on its external backup drive check out okay - I re-ingested them to a test folder on the desktop, and they read fine in View NX and in Lightroom.  So the problem occurs on my desktop sometime after ingest from the laptop (I know this because the file was appeared a-okay after that laptop to desktop ingest, but now - a couple of days later - it is corrupt on the desktop harddrive).
I've checked and rechecked the desktop harddrive (a 4tb drive) and it checks out okay.
It sure seems to me that Lightroom must read the original NEF file in order to extract metadata as well as the JPG preview file from it.  I don't see any other way for Lightroom to bring that information into its catalog, so my assumption therefore is that Lightroom in fact accesses the original NEF file to do this.  If it accesses it at least reads the file and my thought is that action must somehow corrupt the file data on random images, or perhaps in the process of extracting metadata and writing sidecar XMP files, as I've set my system up to do that by default.
BTW this has occurred most recently on D7100 camera files as well as my new D810 camera files.  The file in question came out of the D810.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm using Lightroom - latest version 5.7 (on both laptop and desktop) - to ingest from cards into laptop.  I then output a catalog containing the recent shoot to the laptop's external backup drive, take that drive to the desktop, connect via USB 3.0 and use Lightroom on the desktop to import the catalog to the desktop.
Here's a link to the corrupted NEF file in a dropbox folder:  Dropbox - VisWild-Moab-RD-120514-1074.NEF
and a link to a TIF version of the same corrupted file:  Dropbox - VisWild-Moab-RD-120514-1074.TIF
and a link to the uncorrupted version of the NEF file pulled from the laptop backup external drive (renamed to "...1074a.nef" so as not to overwrite the n.g. file in the same dropbox folder):  Dropbox - VisWild-Moab-RD-120514-1074a.NEF
