Keynote to Quicktime to iDVD

Hi,
I hope someone will be able to help - (and forgive me for being long, but I want to give all the relevant info). I have made a 700+ slideshow with images from iPhoto and occasional chapter headings, and simple dissolve transitions between most slides. I'd like to add music which is synchronised to the images - I know, after spending hours researching the forums and thru trial and error, that this is a complicated mission.
I was going to create a soundtrack in iMovie (cant do it in Garage band since the songs are protected) and wanted to import a "dummy" QT movie to use for timing/synchronising purposes. Each time I export Keynote to QT - and I have tried EVERY export option it seems! - the timing is off (too fast), or the self-playing movie option makes all the transitions uniform (which they are not in my KN presentation).
Does anyone have an idea as to how to create a QT movie that plays EXACTLY the way it does in KN?
Also, I have seen people complaining that once they hook up to a projector that the timing of the KN presentation changes - I am worried about this since if I do manage to make a soundtrack in iMovie, it will remain "unattached" to the KN presentation - moving at its own pace which SHOULD NORMALLY BE synchronised with KN - but if KN plays at irregular speeds, then the soundtrack won't match up (even forgetting the issue of timing the hitting of 2 play buttons - one in KN and one for the soundtrack - at the same time!)
DOES anyone have any help/suggestions/advice as to how to get KN and a soundtrack playing nicely together???
Thanks to anyone who can help - I've put a couple hundred hours into organising this slideshow, and it's so frustrating seeing the whole thing fall apart at the end!

Welcome to the forums. Please provide some details about the audio. If it was music purchased through iTunes, it may be a bit difficult to transfer (you'd have to burn to a CD from iTunes, then reimport).

  • Exporting Keynote to Quicktime - complete loss of sound

    Hey,
I’m facing problems when it comes to exporting Keynote to Quicktime.
For a tutorial, I recorded a Quicktime movie of my screen (including my voice as audio). This Quicktime movie is placed on a slide and runs during the whole presentation. I use animations for showing text blocks that give additional info while the movie is running.
In Keynote everything works just fine. But when I export it to Quicktime, *the sound stops as soon as the first animation is started with a click*. From then on I can see both the embedded Quicktime movie and the animations but without audio.
Sometimes it even happened that after doing the first click I could see the animations only, but no Quicktime video / sound.
I’ve spent the last nights with trying changing export settings and so on, searched this forum up and down, but couldn’t find a solution…
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Mike

I just posted this on another similar inquiry. THis may help. I posed a similar question so check the thread "Bottom line...etc." If you follow the guidelines below it should work. The final result is one QT movie with all slides and music. The product was so much nicer than the iPhoto slide shows (although they are OK too. (I don't know about the video in the Keynote might work as described in the initial post here.)
Here is what the final answer was, at least for my situation:
"YESSSS!!! Even after meeting with 4 Geniuses and 1 Creative the answer was still a definite bottom line, "Maybe." Until, I finally realized that the one setting that I was not using correctly was in the Export> QT> Playback. I had been using "Manual" and not using the "Fixed Timing" out of fear that it would change the custom settings that I had on each slide. However, that is not the case. The settings on each slide remain the same even though in this option there are settings for slide duration and build duration. I do not know what those options do but the bottom line is I now can Export to QT and then import to iDVD with both sound and video as one file and they work fine both as an isolated QT file as well as a QT/Slideshow in iDVD. Thanks for the help from all the contributors both recently and quite awhile ago when I first faced this challenge.

  • FLICKERING PLAYBACK IN QUICKTIME OR iDVD w/ Ken Burns toggled "ON"

FLICKERING in SLIDESHOW PLAYBACK IN QUICKTIME OR iDVD w/ Ken Burns toggled "ON"
Posted INCORRECTLY EARLIER IN iPhoto 6 Forum: Apr 17, 2009 12:27 PM
Hello everyone, and especially QuickTimeKirk if I can get his attention please--->
After pressing "Play" in iPhoto and with Ken Burns "Auto" toggled ON the PLAYBACK VIEWING photos in iPhoto is OKAY.
After clicking on "Slideshow" and choosing same options, ie., with Auto Ken Burns "ON", VIEWING of Slideshow in iPhoto is OKAY.
Now happy with slideshow, I click on Export (goes into processing with QuickTime, or some elements of it I presume),
NOW SUDDENLY the VIEWING IS JUMPY, SOMETIMES LOCKS UP--totally unacceptable.
Yet if "Auto Ken Burns" is toggled OFF in iPhoto slideshow settings, leaving a flat & still picture and then Exporting File (goes into processing QuickTime) then PLAYBACK VIEW in QuickTime and iDVD IS OKAY.
So, how do I get to use Auto Ken Burns Effect AND without JUMPY/FLICKER/LOCKUPS in my slideshows this year? (A year or more ago everything worked out just fine using the same methods as today).
I sure would appreciate your help so I can send out some iDVD's with my Slideshows with the K-B effect "On."
    Please help if you can,
    THanks,
    Max

    Mr. "K"
Thanks very much for your rapid reply...this thing has had me in knots for days.
I opened MI and watched it as I played
    Slideshow-A with Ken Burns ON
    versus
Slideshow-B with Ken Burns turned OFF.
S# A was a several hundred MB in size (wow, how'd that happen?) while S# B was less than 100MB.
    S# A jumps, stutters, etc. S# B does not.
The FPS of 30 and Playing FPS of 30 can be seen in a third (Slideshow#C) video that has KB toggled on and that one doesn't seem to stutter nearly so much. It's size is 70MB.
I checked my Codec Pkg using Get Info and found it is Ver. 1.1
My G4 is rated at 800MHz
and has plenty of RAM (if that's where this stuff is cached for playback).
Not sufficient? Please let me know how and if I can rectify that?
Watching with MI engaged is one thing, but What can I do about this disappointing outcome in iDVD or QuickTime playback?
Earlier (2yrs ago) I could create a Slideshow, toggle on Ken Burns, watch a video with no probs.
If you'd be so kind, please offer your best strategies.
    THANKS,
    Max

  • When exporting keynote to quicktime it is crap. why?

when exporting keynote to quicktime, it is really jumpy/jittery WHY!?!?!?
    need help

    Same thing happening to me.
Seems like it's a quicktime bug.
I see some discussion at http://www.jem-thematic.net/en/node/871
It seems to indicate the only way is to downgrade from QT from 7.5 to 7.4.5... and, if you use iMovie, this will also break iMovie, you'd need to reinstall... UGH.

  • Cannot Export Keynote to Quicktime

When i try and export a the keynote into quicktime, the result is not as intended. i have recored a video inside of keynote, with animations and different timings. the video is around 8 mins long. when i export it to quicktime, i get a video of 4 seconds in lenght. this is the screen shot of the options i get when i click "File", "Export to", "Quicktime".
any help would be much appreciated

The export options show that the QuickTime export will take the timings of the transitions from the "recording";  every time you press the enter, spacebar or right arrow key, Keynote will advance to the next event.
The recorded timings are wrong, you therefor need to clear the timings and record them again:
    1 - Inspector > Document > Audio > click the clear button
    2 - click record
3 - click the red start record button at the bottom left, wait for the countdown to finish then press the enter key every time you want to advance to the next event.
4 - when your reach the last slide, click the record button again, then click the X button top right
test the timings are correct by playing the presentation from slide 1

  • Why can't Apple figure out Keynote to QuickTime???

User problems with QuickTime exporting from Keynote are legion (just look at these discussion forums). Why can't Apple (makers of both Keynote and QuickTime) master this task?
I want a QuickTime video of a self-running presentation. I have audio narration on each slide via .WAV files. My animation timings are set perfectly to match the narration. My transitions are set to advance at the appropriate time in the narration. When I view the show, everything works PERFECTLY. Narration is intact, animations are perfectly timed, slides automatically advance at exactly the right time. Now all I need is a video of my presentation in QuickTime. No problem, I'll use Keynote's handy Export to QuickTime tool.
Then things get ugly. I export to QuickTime and it all falls apart. The timing is off. Long pauses between my slide transitions. Bah. All I want is a QuickTime version of exactly what I see when I play the slideshow - but that's not what I get. Incredibly frustrating. I was hoping they'd fix this in Keynote '09. Alas, not so.
    Step it up, Apple. Please!

This is truly unbelievable. I have used apple equipment since the Apple II. Quicktime and keynote are key apple software. Why can't apple figure this out. I am a college professor recording audio with keynote presentations. Keynote operates very well. Never a problem. Why can't I export to quicktime without trouble? Why do we need to work around this? The quicktime export produces a video track and a movie track, but no audio track. You can check this in the properties after export. It doesn't matter what export settings I choose. Always a movie without an audio track. I am a simple college professor trying to get lecture movies on the course management system. If the audio is recorded on keynote, which it is, why can't quicktime pick it up and add it to the movie? This problem has been around for years through several versions of quicktime and keynote. Is this an Apple culture where the keynote people don't talk to the quicktime people? Either keynote should record in a format that quicktime can use or quicktime should be able to read the keynote audio and add it to the movie. How can this be education friendly if a college professor can't export his recorded keynote presentations to quicktime? I don't want a work around that takes me extra time. My time is precious and my students need access very soon after the lecture. This should be at the top of a fix-it list in the apple education group.

  • How to download WWDC 2006 keynote using QuickTime Pro?

    Hi!
How can I download the WWDC keynote using quicktime pro?
    Matt

You can't...The video is streamed. One of the biggest draw backs to steaming a video is you can't download it..(draw back for end user)........ You can use a program to capture the video on the monitor.

  • Keynote to quicktime movie to iDVD, no sound on dvd

I know this has been asked a million times, however I (a relatively recent Mac convert) absolutely can't believe that Apple would not allow this to work.
I have a keynote slideshow with music. I "send to iDVD" as well as "export" into a quicktime movie. Resultant files are movie and soundtrack. I bring into iDVD. Sound plays in iDVD. Burn dvd from iDVD, no sound on dvd.
C'mon, the instructions are there, the menus are there. Apple can't expect us to "import into iMovie, match movie and soundtrack" or "burn using disk utility" or otherwise do anything other than take a keynote and make it in to a dvd.
Worst case, can I just burn a CD or DVD that automatically plays the keynote with sound and doesn't have the cool DVD Menu?
Again, sorry for the "same old question", however I have not found a fix that worked nor do I believe that Apple means for this to be so difficult.
For those experts out there that have seen this question before, I really have spent a significant amount of time researching the problem and haven't found a fix that worked or an official response from Apple.
    Thanks again.

I am not running this on an intranet, I am creating a video for my students and posting it to my Internet web page. So if I were to post the keynote file itself, 4/5 of my students would be unable to open it because they don't have Macs. Some do not even have desktop computers and view stuff on their smart phones. I solved the issue, at least partially, by saving the presentation as html and posting it to my site that way. It works but it is a bit buggy. Would still rather make it into a movie.

  • Keynote export options using Quicktime and iDVD

I am not happy with the output of HD Keynotes exported to iDVD...they work well with triggering the events with a click but the fonts look blocky. There is no way to upgrade the export settings to improve the quality.
I'm trying to squeeze as much out of Keynote as possible... and it seems I'm hitting a few problems.
Exporting the same Keynote to QT gets the clarity I want...because I can select the higher settings...and I can even "click" to trigger the events in QT Pro on my MBP... but as soon as I burn it in iDVD the clicks fail.
I am hoping to combine the clickability of the export to iDVD movie with the quality of the export to QT movie.
And I am soooo close.... I have discovered that the "clickability" seems to be controlled by a layer in the file called a Presentation Pause Track (found when I look at the movie properties).
Have you come across this before?
My plan was to extract the track and then add it to the hi res QT movie!!! I burnt the resulting QT to iDVD and the clicks were there!!! But the were all out of sync!
I discovered the Presentation Pause Track is a different length than the QT export... and even when I've subsequently added the PPtrack using "add to selection and scale" it is still out of whack!
Your help, guidance, commiserations would be appreciated...
Surely there is a way to have my HD Quicktime cake and eat it too!

    Cheers Brian
I'm green with envy re the 8 core Mac Pro!
To add to the info: I'm trying to find out how you can export to QT and iDVD and get a 2 movies of the same length... which should allow me to copy the pause track over and not lose sync with the clicks.
My latest test involves a 2 page Keynote (HD res) and the resulting QT export gave me a movie of 43 seconds while the iDVD export came out 57 seconds...
That's with the default settings for slide and build duration of 5 and 2 sec. (could that represent 2 pages of 5 + 2 sec?)
iDVD lets you alter these settings but to a minimum of 1 sec for each... QT export doesn't let you change these except for a self playing movie... so I'm now testing a self paced QT set at 1 and 1 sec and an iDVD set to 1 and 1 and see what happens...
Do you think I'm on the right track or am I wasting my time?
At least 8 cores might help reach theat conclusion a little faster!!

  • Keynote to QuickTime Problem

I create advertising DVD's to be displayed on TV's. To do this I create the slides which have text over the top of a .mov video background, convert the keynote to a QuickTime file, and then burn it onto a DVD using iDVD. Everything works perfectly up until I convert the keynote to a QuickTime format...
To run you through what I do:
I select Share > Fixed Timing > and set "1.0 seconds" for both "Slide Duration" and "Build Duration".
When viewing the QuickTime after, the .mov backgrounds I have on my slides are animate as they're supposed to, but do not loop as they do in the keynote.
This for example leaves me with a slide that might last 10 seconds before transitioning to the next slide, but the moving background only lasts 5 seconds and is frozen still for the remaining 5 seconds (UNLIKE THE KEYNOTE WHICH LOOPS THE BACKGROUND).
Does anyone know how I can get this Keynote, converted to a file to be burnt to DVD using iDVD that WILL KEEP my keynote slide backgrounds looping?
Any help will be greatly appreciated and I'll answer any questions that come through to give further details if needed.
    Thank you.

I am talking about the text in the black bar at the top- thank you!!!

  • Exporting from Keynote to quicktime messing with timing

Hello, I have been searching the discussion board, but I have not found anything that answers my question.
I have created a slide show in Keynote where each slide is on screen for 2 seconds, then transition for 2 seconds. I exported it to Quicktime, where, when I play it as just a Quicktime movie it looks right.
However, when I drag the Quicktime movie into iDVD, the slides are only on screen for 1 second with a 1 second transition. I am only draging and dropping the Quicktime, so why is it changing, and how could it possible change from a saved file?

Yeah, me too. Bump. Can anybody explain this behavior?!?

  • Keynote Recorded Slideshow to iDVD/DVD

I have created a Keynote Presentation designed for a retail application that should eventually play a looping movie on a large-screen TV.
It appears that I don't have the correct EXPORT settings when building a MOVIE to use with iDVD.
The MOVIE file, almost any I've built using the CUSTOM SETTINGS looks great during playback on the iMac. However, when I burn to DVD using iDVD the playback quality is terrible. I've gotten a few different results with different EXPORT SETTINGS, but with the range of settings available I'm at a loss to find the exact EXPORT SETTINGS that will give me high quality playback.
The Keynote presentation/slideshow was setup as 1920 x 1080 and as I mentioned, whatever EXPORT parameters I use results in excellent quality playback on the iMac while poor quality on the DVD itself.
An additional issue is cropping. The iDVD build (barring the quality issue) appears to be functioning correctly, yet the edges of the MOVIE are cropped no matter the setting on the TV. Is anyone aware of a fix for that?
Thanks to one and all for any recommendations.
    Joe Molnar

well for starters DVD's are either 720x480 or a 16x9 version of that (800 something pixels wide, but I can't remember the exact amount), so your 1920 presentation is being scaled down to put on the DVD. If you're then playing it on large TV, it's upscaling a heck of a lot. I suspect the movie is upscaling on the iMac in Quicktime and it looks decent enough to watch, but on a TV, yikes.
There's a lot more at play here, but for the most part, I've never been impressed with the quality of presentations on a TV format like a standard SD DVD. There are some tricks that can help, but I don't have time right now to dig up all my resolution notes. Sorry

  • Keynote File Burned to iDVD - Slides no longer synced with Music

    Hi ....
I carefully prepared a keynote presentation where the slide timings and music were carefully synced and it all ended together ...
However ... after I send it to IDVD ... the slides now play faster than when I originally set them up in Keynote ... so the music goes on when the slides are over now. So it's no longer synced.
When i first "send to idvd" I use "fixed timing" because I just want the dvd to play automatically. With this option it asks for slide duration and build duration. Why is it doing this ? ... I have already done this in Keynote itself. I'm wondering if this is the source of the problem.
I checked the Quicktime file that is generated for iDVD to burn ... and it's the same thing there .. so it's somehow happening when exporting to Quicktime I guess ...
    Any ideas ....? Thanks ...

    Hi there ...
For anyone having a similar problem or is curious ... I managed to find a way to make sure that my audio and video sync.
I don't know if this is a bug in Keynote .. or whether i did something wrong .. but here is how I fixed it.
I added a voice recording over the slideshow. I didn't really want anyone narration ... but I noticed that with the recording selection that the stupid slide transition and build transition timings don't come up. So I just set the input volume at 0 in systems prefs ... ran the show recording nothing ... and when I exported it ... the soundtrack i had originally attached and the slide show was perfectly synced as it began in Keynote ..
    Whatever .....
