Keynote transitions in Author

I am probably confused. When Apple posts Keynote transitions for iPad, I assumed they meant, if you apply them in Keynote for Mac, then import into Author, they work. But they don't (Typewriter build, for example). So perhaps Apple's referring to creating a presentation with KN for iPad, and then importing it?
Anyone have experience with this combination?
I looked for a KN for iPad slot in the forums, but didn't find one.
Thanks.

As I understand it the Keynote presentation gets exported to iBook Author as HTML. Only transitions that will survive that conversion will work. I know (having just tried it) that not all do.

I am unable to get all keynote transition and slide effect features in ibook keynote widget. Can it be possible to see same presentation in ibook as was in keynote?

This Apple Support Document has details on the subset of Keynote transitions which can be used in iBooks Author.
    Here are the details:
    Transitions and builds
These transitions and builds work with the Keynote widget:
    Transitions:
    Magic move
    Cube
    Dissolve
    Drop
    Flip
    Motion dissolve
    Move in
    Pivot
    Push
    Reveal
    Scale
    Twirl
    Builds:
    Appear/disappear
    Cube
    Dissolve
    Drop
    Move in/out
    Pivot
    Scale
    Twirl
Unsupported builds and transitions will be replaced with Dissolve.

  • Keynote Transitions in Powerpoint

Is it really true that all of the transitions in Keynote will go without problem into Powerpoint? If so, it must mean that you can already do those things in Powerpoint, but I've never seen any of the "exclusively Keynote" ones. Is Apple lying or something else going on?

Unfortunatly complex Powerpoint files with builds, tranitions, video or audio dont transfer properly into Keynote.
An effect available in PPt with no direct equivalent  in Keynote can create havoc when converted.
My way of thinking is, if a PPt can be converted with just a few changes to be corrected  then its worth doing.
If its quicker or easier to redo the whole show in Keynote then thats the way I will go.
Regretably, I dont know of a way to sort out major issues of the kind you have.

  • Using keynote in ibooks author do you set slide size to 2048x1536

For my second book I want to use the keynote widgit. If I set the slide size to 2048x1536 will that be ok for the ipad 2 and origanal ipad in addition to the new ipad? Also, when you initially bring an image (jpg) into keynote that will eventually be for import into ibooks author should it be resized to 2048x1536 just as we do when bringing one directly into ibooks author. I am using keynote 5.1.1.

  • Keynote transitions do not appear on external display

I am practicing for a big presentation. I have a Macbook Pro connected to a Toshiba LED projector.
I have a beautiful Keynote presentation completed with great transitions, however I have 2 issues:
on the secondary screen for the audience:
    1. no transitions appear. The slide just advances to the next slide with no transitions appearing. Why would that be?
    2. The picture size for the viewing audience is too small. I'm not sure how to adjust that. I did go into screen displays, but I haven't found the correct setting yet.
I really am concerned about those transitions not appearing.I really want those. Anyone know how I can fix that?

There are a few things you should check:
    1) In the Keynote Preferences/Slideshow Preferences window: be sure that the button "Present on Secondary Display" is checked. This puts the presentation onto the projector and should show your transitions as you have created them.
    2) Same window, check the box marked "Scale slides up to fit display."
    3) To view the "presentation preview" on your own computer screen, check the box "Use alternate display to view presenter information" in the Keynote Preferences / Presenter Display Preferences window. Check the other boxes as you prefer. I recommend checking the "Ready to Advance Indicator" box because this very useful feature lets you know the status of Builds and Transitions.
    4) In the System Preferences / Displays window: Check the button marked "Detect Displays." This should set the optimum resolution and screen size automatically for the projector your are using.
    5) If the image is still too small, the projector may have a "zoom" control which will change the size of the projected image on the screen. OR, you may need to reposition the projector farther from the screen; this will increase the image size.
    Good Luck.

  • Keynote transitions vs Quick time ?

I developed my first Keynote presentation and set different timing and transitions. When I export to Quicktime for use on you tube will timings be as in Keynote or will they be ignored and will I have to specify Quicktime timings and transitions? Basically I want the presentation to be an auto running not repeating presentations In quicktime.
If so can I export to Imovie and than to quicktime? Or any other way?
    Thanks in advance.

QT Pro player has been moved to /Applications/Utilities. you can still use it as many of its functions are not present in QT X.

  • Keynote transition effects on fcp

Just wondering if anyone know how I can use keynote effects on fcp. Or how I can get transition plugins that Keynote program is using to use in fcp.

    Hi MooVee,
Afraid that Keynote and FCP are two different beasts, so there's no plug-in infrastructure or the like to share transition styles.
You can, however, generate clips in Keynote and export them as QuickTime movies into Final Cut. I use Keynote as my primary titling tool, as it's so fast and easy to use. For creating titles, be sure that your Master has a Transparent (None) background, and your slide the same. Then create your title animation, and Export it as a QuickTime movie with the "Include transparency" checkbox ticked, and using the Animation compression settings. This will give you a QT clip with an alpha channel that you can add to your FCP timeline.
I sometimes monkey with the size of the Keynote master to match the video size, and bring in still screenshots form the video to put in as a compositional reference (deleting it, of course, when I export the movie). But as you know, you can ultimately adjust the placement of the video in FCP, so it's not always necessary.

  • Seeking Keynote transition triggered by completion of video or audio clip

I've searched for an answer, and not found it elsewhere, so I'm posing my question here.
In Keynote, the automatic transition from one slide to the next is a matter of the timing defined in the Inspector. One thing that seems to be missing is the ability to trigger a slide transition (or a build transition) upon the natural ending of a video or audio clip. In a complex slide, with many builds, with various timing, plus a voiceover audio clip, I seem to have to calculate the sum of all the build transitions and estimate the amount of delay I need to incorporate such that the clip completes before the transition, then it is a matter of Play & Edit to fine tune that timing. I'm looking for the ability to transition based on the completion of the clip - somewhat similar to the existing feature where a build element occurs, for example, "After Build X" (with a defined delay). Perhaps I need to be able to have multiple levels of build nesting. If anyone has solved this problem, or knows of the solution, please let me know.
The bottom line is that I am trying to get away from trial and error timing with slides containing video and audio clips.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Keynote transitions and quicktime movies very choppy, not smooth

When playing a slideshow, my slide transitions and Quicktime movies are not smooth, especially when using Magic Move for a transition. There is also a long delay for the start of a transition, even if delay is set to zero. I believe I have adequate hardware but any suggestions are appreciated.
Oddly, if I export a Quicktime version of the presentation or view in "Rehearse Slideshow," all transitions are smooth. Any tips for better playback performance while in Keynote? I would use the exported QuickTime for the actual presentation if there was a way to automatically stop/start playback at the end of each slide. Is there??

  • Keynote transition problem - PPT slides shift when animation added in KN

I've had to import PPT presentations into KN and they work pretty well overall, except that, when I add a NEW animation to any slide, the slide shifts slightly during transition. Also, some of the fonts and images appear slightly jagged.
The same import and animation settings work fine in 06. I'd love to take advantage of 08's new transitions and animations and other features though!
    Any ideas?

    The problem persists.
However, one thing we discovered is that the Keynote 08 file runs great on the MBP with the newer NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card.
On the Mac Pro, which has an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, the problem occurs, as well as on a MPB with the ATI Radeon X1600.
There's no videocard firmware update for either the MacPro or the older MPB.

  • Keynote transitions and jumping from slide to slide

There are times when I jump from one slide in a presentation to another slide out of sequence. When I do this the transitions go away. The slide just cuts to the slide I'm jumping to. Is there a way to get the transition to work when jumping and, if not, how do I request Apple to consider this for a future update? Thanks

I have requested a default dissolve transition (or a user-defineable default) for jumping and reversing slides. I don't know if Apple even reads the requests because the form still only goes up to version 5 when they ask what version of Keynote you have. I really wish Apple would take Keynote more seriously because every time I use it in a show, I convert more business people to want to use it but if Apple doesn't develop it into a more professional app they may lose a great opportunity to replace PowerPoint.

  • Keynote Transitions

    Good morning
I apologize for my little english. My problem is the following when exporting a Keynote presentetion as Quicktime interactive:
    - Any transition run correctly just on condition that you go from slide 1 to 2, from 2 to 5 from 3 to 6 and so on...
    - Quicktime doe not recognize instructions to correctly come back.
I would like to receive some suggestions to solve the matter.
    Tkank you
    Alberto

that is correct. You will only get the transitions when you move from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and so on. Remember, this is a MOVIE file you're playing, so it won't have the transitions when you go OUT of sequence. Otherwise, Apple would have to build in transitions from EVERY SLIDE to EVERY SLIDE as it won't be able to ask you which one's you plan to jump between. Keynote can do it because it's not a movie, it's building things as you play them.
I'm not sure what your other question is.

  • Keynote transitions slow with lcd projector

When I connect my 2010 macbook pro to an lcd projector keynote stutters at times.  Most importantly, the slides that are timed to transition with music do not transition on time.  The longer the presentation plays the worse the time gets.
    Macbook pro with 8G ram
Intel 2 Duo Core 2.53 processors
Project saved and runs from the desktop.
    Same problem on multiple projectors
    using dvi apple adaptor
same results on battery power or ac/dc adaptor plugged in

I'm afraid this isn't much help, but I also experience this problem with a much older white macbook. I do a keynote  on the macbook, play it back through an external projector and all the transitions are visibly slower.
Keynote also exhibits drastic timing differences depending which computer a presentation is being run on.  For example a presentation created on my Intel iMac 2006 will run much faster than on my newer macbook.
It's almost as if keynote doesn't know about real time clocks.

  • Keynote transitions: if I know the 'exact' duration based on audio chapter markers, how do I make the slide duration exact?

I have a listing in Numbers of the chapter marker start times (in an audio file from garage band).
So a simple calc should give me the intervals ... yes?
But it seems a 'dissolve' or a 'magic move' requires some sort of juggle between a delay and the transition time to make it sync.

True.  Thanks BW.  Was searching for a faster way to sync the timing of guitar fretboard animation frames to original soundtracks ... to a 16 x 9 movie.
Keynote actually does a good job of recording mouse click (right arrow) intervals when the cut is clean (no magic move or dissolve etc) with the narration record function but there was a dead end of attempts prior to that fork in the road trying to figure out the strange 'double it and minus it' formula for bridging the graphic smoothly with intervals (it does look better with dissolve) but there doesn't seem to be a consistent way to get it exact - as you say.
The killer app (for easily tuning clips in iMovie) would be a stopwatch (or something) that recorded a text file of intervals (in decimal) based on mouse clicks pressed while tapping away to a sound track.  Garageband can deliver ... sort of ... and with some processing but ... the journey continues.  Thanks again.

  • Trigger KeyNote transition from a shell script?

    Hi All,
This is probably a newbie question, but I don't know where else to find the answer. The question is, how can I programatically cause KeyNote to transition to a specified page in the current presentation? I'd imagine AppleScript could do it, e.g. executing something like
tell application "KeyNote" set current_page to 17
from the shell, but I can't find documentation anywhere. Does anyone know the secret, and or where I can find some documentation on KeyNote's AppleScript interface?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

Thanks Kyn, your reply was very helpful. I wasn't aware of the Script Editor (that's how new I am to AppleScript ;^)) but the KeyNote Dictionary contained the documentation I was looking for. I can now do a script like this:
    tell application "Keynote"
start from slide 2 of front slideshow
    delay 1
show slide 5 of front slideshow
    delay 5
show slide 15 of front slideshow
    end tell
... and executing it causes KeyNote to do more or less what I want.
There is only one minor problem.... when I do a "show slide (foo)", KeyNote simply places the requested slide onto the screen without any transition. Is there any way to tell KeyNote to use the slide's pretty transition animation instead?
    Thanks for the help,
    Jeremy
