Keynote v.1 won't open on MacPro

I've looked and can't find any indication that KN v.1 won't work on Intel Mac but I can't get it open. I installed from original disk and when I try to open -- I choose the theme and it starts to load then stops with this message - "an unexpected error occurred. Please quit and reopen Keynote". Happens every time. I've re-installed - no difference. Is version 1 too old?

Welcome to the discussions, Gooch4.
Actually, I haven't tried it, but I would think that there MAY be issues with Keynote 1 and the Intel macs as they didn't exist when Keynote shipped. Rosetta is supposed to be able to handle these situations, though, so I'd definitely send feedback to Apple and see if they can resolve the issue.

  • Keynote '08 files won't open after cable replacement

After what I've read, I'm so glad I didn't have the Apple Store install Maverick when the cable had to be replaced in my MacBook Pro as a work around to a possible drive failure. I thought I had successfully reinstalled everything via disk and back up restoration, but no, my Keynote '08 files won't open in the original program that created them and need "a newer version." Not acceptable. Can someone help me with this? I teach and need my original files for editing!

I presume you mean Keynote version 4, part of the iWork 08 suite, (there is no version 08)
1 -  Delete the complete iWork 08 installation, you must use an application removal tool to do this correctly.
2 -  (Appcleaner from Mac Update is free and works perfectly for this)
3 -  Re-install iWork from the Installation CD and test

    Keynote installed but won't open.

Looks like you installed SpellCatcher at one time. Uninstall. I'm not sure about the lastest SpellCatcher release today. Both older versions of SpellCatcher and Unsanity's Application Enhancher causes Keynote to fail to launch successfully.

  • I have the latest version of keynote but it won't open files....says I need a newer version

Latest Keynote app was downloaded wirh Maverick update.  My keynote files won't open and error message says I need to download latest version. I cannot download newer version (have latest version already) because my purchases say I have already installed it. Any ideas how to fix this?

I have just the same issue. I have the latest version installed. I did work on the file this afternoon, cannot open it anymore with the current version of Keynote (6.2)
It seems that Keynote fails to save the presentation in the right way.
In the Finder the Show package contents command is active when Control-clicking the file. Keynote files that open correctly in Keynote do not offer to show their package contents. I also realized that the .key file not opening is only 135 KB, which is pretty scarce for a presentation.
I suppose this is a file corruption issue, which is needed to fixed by Apple. I'm affraid the contents of those files are gone.

  • Keynote 6.1 won't open an old files.

I just bought Keynote 6.1 (and installed Maverick to run it) and have found that it won't open old files created with version 4.something.  It tells me to save them with Keynote 09 which I don't have and can't buy.  On the face of it, it looks like I can't use any of my hundred - odd Keynote presentations with the new version, which means not with the iPad either.  Any ideas?

This would need to be posted in the Keynnote forum.  Not the Macbook hardware questions forum.

You aren't likely to get an answer with that type of attitude. BTW, you are not contacting Apple on these forums. We are all volunteer end users just like you. If you want support, then call AppleCare and you can get one-on-one assistance.

  • Motion 1.01 won't open on MacPro

Motion 1.01 won't open on my new MacPro. Before I reinstall is there a problem loading this early verison on an Intel Mac? Does it have to be on a Power PC?
It probably has to do with something went wrong using Migration Assistant when I purchased my MacPro and transferred from an old G4 Power PC. In that case a reintstall will probably do the trick but I want to make sure that there are no problems loading on an Intel Mac.
    Thanks, Lou

Thanks I'm no longer confused. Since I recently purchased Final Cut Express HD before I knew about Motion 2.1; I think I'll learn this before stepping up to Studio. It may be all I need, although I was able to make some cool effects for my wife's business with Motion 1 and will miss it.
    Thanks for the help

  • Keynote 5.2 won't open with Mountain Lion

I've been using all of iWork with Mountain Lion since July 9 when the Developer GM Seed was released, and it worked fine. Now that the public has Mountain Lion, iWork was updated and I get the message "Check with the Developer to make sure Keynote works with this version of OS X."
I know for a fact this must be an error, but since I've had iWork '09 since its release on CD I haven't bought it on the Mac App Store and therefore cannot use that for this problem. (Although the App Store updated Keynote and the rest of iWork)

It's not quite the same thing but in case other people's searches lead them here too, I was having trouble getting Keynote (updated) and TextEdit to open. They would just hang without even getting to the initial screen. I fixed the problem by turning off iCloud for documents
Go to System Preferences > iCloud > uncheck "Documents & Data" from the sync list.
(Actuall I uninstalled Keynote, did the above, restarted and then reinstalled but I think I only needed ot do the above).
Anyway, both Keynote and TextEdit open fine now. Shame I can't use iCloud with them but I'll cope...
    Hope that helps someone.

  • Trouble with Keynote on MacBookPro - won't open, keeps crashing

I'm on a MacBook Pro and on OS 10.9.5. I had been using Keynote awhile back when it crashed working with a Powerpoint presentation and trying to save it. Since then I've downloaded Keynote a couple of times and get a message when I try to launch that it wants to "reopen". No matter what I do it seems to quit immediately and won't even open.
    Any suggestions?

  • Keynote 6.1 won't open file created in 6.0

I erased my hard disk, and installed the latest version of keynote (6.1). I downloaded a keynote file from dropbox that I had create with version 6.0 (or 6.01, I can't remember). When I try to open the file, it says I need the latest version of keynote. Others with similar issues had older versions of keynote still on their computers. I do not. I just erased my hard disk and installed 6.1 fresh. I've put hundreds of hours into this keynote presentation, and I'd hate to lose it.

Its become apparent that presentations created in Keynote versions 6.0 and 6.01 are causing major problems when opened in version 6.1. I would guess your files were created in these earlier versions which is why you may have this issue. As a test, right click the file, choose Open With and select Keynote 6.1. If it open correctly all is good.
If not, I would start recreating the presentations from scratch. Corrupted Keynote files stay corrupted.
One of The Golden rules is to never, absolutely never change Applications or the Operating System while you have ongoing projects still being worked on. I learned this in the 1970's with main frame computers.
My workflow is to only use 6.1 to create new presentations.
Presentations created in 5.3 are played back or edited in 5.3.
I deliberately did not use version 6.0 and 6.01 as they caused more problems than it was worth. Keynote 6.1 is now stable and usable.

  • Installed iWork 09' on Mavericks but Keynote and Numbers won't open. Pages opens fine

When I bought my Mac years ago, I purchased Pages on the app store. Pages and the rest of iWork has since been completely changed for the worst. I think we can all agree that it is a complete DISASTER. It's very dumbed down, templates were cut out, and stripped of its functionality. I'm not quite sure what Apple was thinking but fortunately for me and anyone else who purchased Pages 09' before the big switch, Pages 09' still exists on our computers and works fine. Unfortunately, I didn't download Keynote or Numbers when I bought the computer. Now that I want it, I thought I'd outwitted Apple and I decided to purchase the old iWork software on ebay. It installed "successfully" but when I went to open Keynote, it gave me an error message saying "check with the developer to make sure Keynote works with this version of OS X". If the old software for Pages 09' works, why wouldn't Keynote and Numbers? Please help!

I am getting the same exact error message, but I do not have Time Machine, so I cannot restore my system. I noticed that Pages would not load after I updated OS X to 10.7.4 on my MacBook Air. I also have an iMac at home that  has Pages installed. I had not updated the iMac to 10.7.4 yet, and I was able to open Pages. I next tried to open the version of Pages on my iMac while accessing it remotely on my Air. It gave the same message. Do you have any idea how I can fix this?

  • Latest version Keynote 6.2 won't open older files.

    Latest version installed.
No previous version on this computer. Just purchased it.
Still giving me the "you need newer version of Keynote" message.
    Any ideas ?
    Tkxx.

why would every one want to buy - Keep old versions of softwares when usual workflow goes towards upgrading-updating.
iWork 13 applications have a new file format that is completely different to the previous iWork 09 format.
Most users realize this and use iWork 09 applications for opening editing and saving existing files, and only use iWork 13 applications for new projects.
Apple have previously created new file types with a number of application;  AppleWorks, iMovie, Final Cut Pro so that previous files could not be opened in the new application.

  • Pages (and Keynote and Numbers) won't open after restore from Time Machine.

Hi, I tried to open my iWork suite tonight and kept getting an error message 'Pages cannot be opened because of a problem' followed by the text, below. Has anyone got any idea what I have done? What I need to do to get them back working?
Recently I did have a big clean up of my Mac Pro - which included drive renaming/home drive rename and relocation - all seems to be working fine for a few months until I've tried to use these applications for the first time tonight. Even restoring them from my Time Machine hasn't helped).
I'd be so grateful if someone can give me some useful advice.  Thanks.

Keynote '09 presentations won't open on my computer. Over the past few days I was prompted several times to update my keynote app and so I did. Now I can't open any presentations and it tells me to download a newer version. When I get to the mac app store to do so there is no update. Keynote 6.5 won't open even though I've updated it from 6.2.2.  My OS X version is Yosemite 10.10.2.  I get the error: Install the latest version of OS X, then download the latest version of Keynote from the Mac App Store.  I have done all possible updates and restarted my computer and still this error happens.  On my other computer with OS X 10.10 Keynote 6.5 opens just fine.  How do I fix the problem with it not opening in 10.10.2?

    Hello gradinc,
It is hard to say what this could be. If you are still getting prompts to upgrade Keynote, it may be trying to open an older version. I would try and delete Keynote and then download it again. I would also try to open it within Launchpad or opening it directly from the Mac App Store to see if the error comes up again. If it does let me know.
