Keynote with quicktime clips

Hi,
Has anyone experienced problems playing quicktime clips in Keynote 4.0.1? I have successfully used this technique a number of times, but now just get a solid black screen on both playback and export.
The clips aren't large (800k and 5secs long).
Thanks, D
Keynote 4.0.1 Quicktime 7.3

Hi,
Thanks for the link/info – I read through the other comments and tried the un/reinstall/and removed perian but although I can double click the QT movies on Keynote's 'stage' (if you will), they still won't playback during preview or on export. I noticed the issue's still live for other posters, and I'm actually now thinking of buying Final Cut Express...maybe that was apple's ploy all along...?!
Thanks anyway – I'll keep checking back periodically. D

  • Watching Apple's Keynotes with QuickTime on Macs

Like many, I have experienced problems watching Apple's keynotes on my Mac. Depending on how I configure the transport, I either get a "Bad address" right away, or "Live Broadcast - paused", or QT switches transports then reports "Bad address", or it just tries to load forever. This seems to have nothing to do with the network, because my Significant Other's Mac is on the same network and plays the keynotes without any problem. The Significant Difference seems to be, my SO rarely installs third-party software -- she even has to be "reminded" to update. On a hunch I uninstalled DivX on my Mac, and now the keynotes play. Uninstalling DivX is not simply a matter of "trashing" the applications. Use the shareware application Pacifist to list the contents of /Library/Receipts/DivX for Mac Installer.pkg and delete all the stuff that DivX installed. To be clean about the whole thing, delete the .pkg thereafter.
If you didn't install DivX and have the problem nevertheless, try to recall which "foreign" plug-ins you did install into QuickTime. That's almost sure to be the problem. Use Pacifist to help you to remove them.

I've also been having this problem - all other Quicktime content plays but not the keynotes.
The only third party Quicktime related things I have installed are Perian, AC3MovieImport.component (not sure where this came from), Flip4Mac and an EyeTV MPEG Support Component.
Could any of these be the problem? The only one with an associated .pkg is Flip4Mac.

  • Video made with Keynote don't work with QuickTime

I have made 10 seconds animation with Keynote and exported it as a video with the highest resolution (.MOV). The Keynote file includes three slides. All the slides plays with Quicktime 7.6.9 (1680.8) in my old Mac G5 (sys. 10.5.8.) and throughout the animation works fine. But only the first slide plays with Quicktime 10.0 (118) in my Mac Book Pro sys. 10.6.7. Would it help uppdate to the system to 10.6.8?

    Try VLC. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

  • How Can I put A quicktime clip into keynote??

    Two Questions,
    One:
How Can I put a "get a mac" commercial into keynote. (Like how do i download it and how do i put it in)
    Two:
If I download a quick time clip (say, pirates of the Caribbean 2 commercial) How can I insert it into keynote??
    Zach

You can put a QuickTime clip on a Keynote slide just by dragging the movie file onto the slide. If the clip is in your Movies folder in your home directory, you can also use the Media browser to insert it. Finally, you can use the Insert menu, and use the Choose... item to pick the file.
To grab one of the "Get a Mac" ads, go to the ad page. Hover your cursor over the thumbnail of the ad, hold down the Control key, and click and hold the mouse button to pop up the contextual menu. Choose "Download Linked File", and the file should be saved to your hard drive.

  • Keynote with embedded .mov exported to Quicktime and then WMV (Flip4Mac)

    Hi,
I have a Keynote with an embedded .mov file (video and audio) half way through which exports to Quicktime fine ("Keynote .mov").
When I use Flip4Mac to convert the Keynote .mov to WMV the resulting WMV file works fine but stops when the audio of the Keynote .mov stops i.e. Flip4Mac doesn't render the last of the Keynote .mov
I have sought help over at Flip4Mac tech support forum but thought someone here might know the answer.
I have tried a variety of different .mov files in my Keynote but the same in all cases: export to QT is fine but Flip4Mac stops converting the Keynote .mov at the end of any audio.
I can extract the audio track and Flip4Mac will convert the Keynote .mov (video) all the way through.
    Help?

what format are the movies you placed on your slides? This makes a big difference in if they get included in the exported QT movie.

  • Exporting Keynote to Quicktime movie with audio

I am struggling to get this to work although I have done so previously. I have a fully functioning keynote with an embedded quicktime movie and an audio file. The Keynote works fine.
When I try to export it I just get the audio file!! I am opting for 'manual' even thought the Keynote is a looped production without the need for any manual input.
    Any ideas? thanks

Exporting to Quicktime with sound seems to have been restored ok in Keynote 09 as I have just tested it on the trial download copy. Up until then I have been importing into Garage Band without sound and adding it there which is successful but I think the quality of picture is better with only one step i.e within Keynote itself.

  • Keynote quits when doing anything with Quicktime

If I open a file with quicktime files in it, or if I attempt to add a quicktime file to the Keynote presentation, it will undexpectedly quit.
Here is the beginning of the error message:
    Link (dyld) error:
    Symbol not found: _ATGetMoviePlayabilityState
    Referenced from: /System/Library/QuickTime/QuickTimecomponents.component/Contents/MacOS/QuickTim eComponents
    Expected in: /System/Library/frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/QuickTime
I have updated completely, ran disk permissions and trashed all iWork and Keynote preferences.
I have also found that this will happen in Pages too, same exact error message.
Thank you for any help, this is really getting frustrating.

i too recently installed all available/current QuickTime updates and still experienced an instant system restart while viewing a quicktime video in Keynote.
    I'm on keynote 3.0.2 with QuickTime 7.2

  • Remote Not Working With QuickTime 7.3.0

Hi I just upgraded and realized my frontrow remote has stopped working with Quicktime. The remote works with VLC, iTunes etc but not QT. Forget about scanning forward or backward it cant even adjust the volume. I never had the problem before. I have tried playing both avi and mp4 files.
I run Tiger and have a macbook

    As a follow up -
I spoke with Apple Support about this and was routed to a few people who were helpful, and moved it up to the engineers of Keynote (and the white remote?) for a solution.
A few days later I received this reply:
Hello Eric, I have heard back from the engineers about this. It looks like as long as Keynote 6.0 is present on the system it will default to using the remove in that application. If you remove Keynote 6.0, which we would not recommend, then you can use Keynote 5.3 with the remote. Presently though this is normal and expected behavior.
I replied by expressing my disappointment that this wasn't functional, since I'm not comfortable using Keynote 6.0 yet.  Short of uninstalling 6.0, the only workaround I have found is to use the iPhone/iTouch Keynote remote app, or make a duplicate copy of your presentation to be opened in 6.0 (and using the remote there).

  • Need Help with QuickTime to Apple TV Export Weirdness

I am having a problem using QuickTime Player 7 Pro to convert a movie file in its original 1280x720 size for use with Apple TV. (iMovie creates a 960x540 file for Apple TV by default and the only way to get a 1280x720 file is to have iMovie use QuickTime to export it as a .mov file in that size and convert it to a .m4v file for Apple TV separately, with QuickTime Player 7 Pro. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to produce the 1280x720 file that is compatible with Apple TV.
To demonstrate my issue, I exported two projects from iMovie, both using the Export via QuickTime menu option, set at Movie to QuickTIme Movie, 1280x720, H.264, 24fps:
    - Movie 1 is an 8:20 video. (All library video taken by the same camera and imported into iMovie at the same time).
    - Movie 2 is a :15 test video using a clip from the same source as Movie 1.
Next, I used QuickTime Player 7 Pro to export Movie 2, the short test clip, using the Movie to Apple TV setting. It  yielded a 1280x720 .m4v file, just as I wanted. With that test completed, I moved on to the full video.
When I exported Movie 1, the full 8:20 movie, using exactly the same setting in QuickTime Player 7 Pro, it produced a 960x540 .m4v file! Repeated exports yielded the same results.
How can this happen? How do I get the1280x720p Apple TV-compatible file that I want?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have exported movies from iMovie many times with the "Export using QuickTime/Movie to QuickTime Movie" Share menu option. Despite the fact that Apple literature states that TV1 will play an H.264/AAC 1280x720, 24fps MOV file, I have never been able to get one to play. It won't even sync. (I get an error message stating the sync didn't work because the file is incompatible with TV.)
Sorry for the delay in responding. Wanted to check a couple of files on the TV1. Don't have many files encoded at 720p24 and have re-converted most for better AC3 DD5.1 quality at 640 Kbps for the TV2 units.. In any case, wanted to make a quick check to see if they still played with increased specs after the last update. Files play but only for a few seconds before freezing. Thought it might be to to wireless streaming to the TV1 so I tried synching a test file but it played the same way. Only files that still play are 540p30 files. Not sure if they have really "killed" 720p or not as a couple of trailers (Thor and Captain America) play at 1280x544 (i.e. 2720 macro-blocks) which is significantly more than my 960x540 (2040 macro-block) files. Might be interesting to see if a 960x720 PAR encoded file will still play on the TV1. (Not that it would help you but it is a matter of some curiosity for me.)
I spent much time at my Apple retail store trying to see what I may have done wrong. The Apple Geniuses there confirmed with me that TV1 will not play this type of file. (I have no experience with TV 2, but I would be surprised if the results were different.
Then be prepared to be surprised. The TV2 plays the 720p files just fine even with the increased audio data rate for the secondary AC3 DD5.1 surround sound. In fact, I am seriously considering the retirement of the TV2 so I can watch all files without having to worry about frame rates. (Besides, my wife keeps complaining that the bedroom TV (the TV1 unit) doesn't play her Netflix "chick flicks."
I just tried renaming the MOV file to M4V. It now syncs with my TV. Unfortunately, it still won't play. The error message on the screen states "The format was not recognized."
Strange, my files are recognized, stream, sync, and play (albeit with frozen video as sound continues) whether I use a real M4V or MOV file container. (Don't have an MP4 720p file to test at the moment.)
So, I am forced to export and then convert. That said, I am embarrassed (but happy) to admit that I found the solution to my QT 7 Pro problem. As I experimented further today,I found that my test file (Movie 2) was exported by iMovie at 24 fps and the full movie was exported at 30 (29.97) fps. QT 7 Pro must have forced the conversion to 960x540, which would be the only way a 30fps file would play on TV. Once I corrected the setting and exported again at 24fps, the QT 7 Pro conversion to 1280x720 worked as it should.
Glad you were able to settle that issue.
If you or anyone knows of a way to export from iMovie into a 1280x720, 24 fps format guaranteed to be compatible with TV1, please post instructions. Until then, I will have to keep using an intermediate export first and then Handbrake or QT 7 Pro to convert.
It's not really possible to guarantee that every file will be playable since the content actually drives the encoder and may require changes to user settings on occasions. However, having said that, I take it you did not try the "Export using QuickTime.../Movie to MPEG-4 Movie" Share menu option previously suggested. It will allow you to create an H.264/AAC 720p24 TV1 compatible MP4 file directly from iMovie. Here is a "quickie" file I exported from iMovie moments ago which plays on my TV1.

  • Possible to view presentations with embedded clips  on the ipad from an external wifi  drive?

    Hello,
first of all I am happy to have joined this community, my name is Chris from Germany.
I am wondering if this setting is possible:
I have bought an external wifi drive (Seagate Satellite Goflex) as well as the iPad4.
I am giving lectures (powerpoint and keynote presentations containing lots of embedded video clips).
Now I would like to show these presentations with my iPad connected to the Wifi drive.
You have to download a special Seagate App on the iPad to be able to see the data on the external wifi drive - I have managed to open the powerpoint files in the App (unfortunately keynote files are not supported by the Seagate App) but when I open them with keynote or goodreader the embedded media will always be removed.
Is this the end of the story or are there any solutions (i.e. with other hardware devices or software)?
Have a nice New Years Eve and thanks in advance,
    Chris

    yes and no ...
    I have figured that out:
First of all: you can`t just view presentations on an external device without importing them into your iPad (at least when you plan to show slides with embedded clips) - goodreader, filebrowser, dropbox ... just show you "static" slides.
When you import a ppt-presentation into keynote all the hyperlinks, embedded clips ... are gone - no chance.
But ... in keynote you are able to "embed" video clips when you drag and drop them directly into the slide alowing "copy video into the document" as well (that is "vital") - the files are getting larger but you don`t have to add a clip when you transfer it to another device (i.e. the iPad) - they are "fixed" in the document..
Now seagate goflex has the problem that you just can`t open/view keynote presentations - but there is a solution:
hacksatellite firmware. When you install that you can go into keynote, activate WebDav, import a keynote file from the external drive, edit it and send it back to the external drive - so: import (can`t live without that), show or edit the presentation, copy it again to the external device and delete the presentation in the iPad (to save storage) is the way you can get the optimum from the iPad at the moment.
Correct me if there is any other more comfortable solution.
    Thanks for your reply Daniel,
    Christian

  • In 10.4, an internet audio file now opens with Quicktime?

Many thanks in advance for your attention.
When I was using 10.3 (and before), when clicking on an audio file on the internet, RealPlayer 9 automatically opened.
One could see the % of the file being downloaded and then (quickly), one would automatically hear the audio clip.
Most often, I am talking about audio clips available on NPR (National Public Radio).
Since I have installed 10.4 (now at 10.4.3), when I click on the same audio file, now Quicktime opens instead. And then nothing happens. Quicktime opens, a Quicktime Player is seen, but I hear nothing and nothing tells me whether the audio file is being downloaded, is ready to be listened to, or anything.
With Quicktime 7, is RealPlayer now supposedly superfluous?
    - Ross

    Many thanks QuickTimeKirk,
But think I need more step-by-step directions.
    1. I have RealPlayer (9) already.
    2. MIME settings in QuickTime Preference Pane. Set it to use RealPlayer for the Format .SMIL How?
    3. In the QuickTime Preference Pane, there is a box for .SMIL, one box only, under "Miscellaneous." It IS unchecked already. But NPR still opens with QuickTime.
    4. By "Change your Mac to use Real Player to open .SMIL files - ." I assume you mean, I will be on NPR, download a QT file and then try to change it to a RealPlayer file under "Get Info?"

  • Keynote to quicktime movie to iDVD, no sound on dvd

I know this has been asked a million times, however I (a relatively recent Mac convert) absolutely can't believe that Apple would not allow this to work.
I have a keynote slideshow with music. I "send to iDVD" as well as "export" into a quicktime movie. Resultant files are movie and soundtrack. I bring into iDVD. Sound plays in iDVD. Burn dvd from iDVD, no sound on dvd.
C'mon, the instructions are there, the menus are there. Apple can't expect us to "import into iMovie, match movie and soundtrack" or "burn using disk utility" or otherwise do anything other than take a keynote and make it in to a dvd.
Worst case, can I just burn a CD or DVD that automatically plays the keynote with sound and doesn't have the cool DVD Menu?
Again, sorry for the "same old question", however I have not found a fix that worked nor do I believe that Apple means for this to be so difficult.
For those experts out there that have seen this question before, I really have spent a significant amount of time researching the problem and haven't found a fix that worked or an official response from Apple.
    Thanks again.

I am not running this on an intranet, I am creating a video for my students and posting it to my Internet web page. So if I were to post the keynote file itself, 4/5 of my students would be unable to open it because they don't have Macs. Some do not even have desktop computers and view stuff on their smart phones. I solved the issue, at least partially, by saving the presentation as html and posting it to my site that way. It works but it is a bit buggy. Would still rather make it into a movie.

  • Ingested videos not playing in stereo with Quicktime or after exporting with compressor

Why does it seem like every time I try to do something just mildly complex I'm stymied by some bug or problem with the software?
    Here's the deal:
    0) I have footage was shot with a stereo camcorder, a JVC GR-DV3000 (circa 2003), with built-in stereo mics.
    1) I ingest the footage from the Mini DV tape and save it to a camera archive using Final Cut Pro X (latest version).
    2) I use Final Cut Pro to pull the events out of archive.
    3) When the events are played from within Final Cut Pro X, I hear strereo and audio meters indicate the audio is in stereo (left and right channels have different volume levels).
    4) When the events are played with the open source software, VLC, I hear stereo, too.
    5) When I export the files for playing on an Apple device using Final Cut Pro, the audio is in stereo as you would expect.
    BUT:
    5) When I play the event clips with QuickTime from my hard drive after step 2 above, I get no audio from the right channel. Weird, right?
    But most annoying of all:
    6) When I use Compressor 4 (instead of Final Cut) to output the event clips to "SD for Apple Devices" using the default audio settings, I get no audio from the right channel, either.
    7) I've got hundreds, if not thousands, of clips. I'm not about to save each clip manually with FCPX. I need to batch convert these files with Compressor.
    8) I've tried various combinations of the audio import settings ("Analyze and fix audio problems," "Separate mono and group stereo audio," and "Remove silent channels." These options have not solved the issue for me. The clips still play in mono in QuickTime.
When I look at the properties of the file in QuickTime, here's what it shows:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Left
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, Unused
Why it's telling me the other 3 channels are unused, I have no idea. As I mentioned, the footage was shot in stereo and even Final Cut plays it in stereo.
Here's what VLC says about the very same file:
    Stream 0:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: Mono
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bits per sample: 16
    Stream 1:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: 1
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bitrate: 512 kb/s
    Stream 2:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: 1
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bitrate: 512 kb/s
    Stream 3:
    Type: Audio
    Codec:PCM S16 LE (sowt)
    Channels: 1
    Sample Rate: 32000 Hz
    Bitrate: 512 kb/s
    Stream 4:
    Type: Video
    Codec: (DV Video (dvc)
    Resolution: 720 x 480
    Frame Rate: 29.970030
    Decoded Format: Planar 4:1:1 YUV
If anyone can point in the right direction, I'd much appreciate it.

I ended up just using iMovie to capture video from the camera. The clips now play in stereo in QuickTime perfectly.
It's interesting to note that iMovie saves the clips as .dv file types, not .mov file types like FCPX does.
And it turns out the iMovie capture is *much* smoother. It actually "just works." Ingesting tapes with FCPX, I had to cross my fingers, spin on my head and pray three times to a statue of Steve Jobs before it would work (and even then it would do weird stuff).
The only downside of using iMovie is that it doesn't have the camera archive feature.
I really don't understand why, with $120 billion in the bank, Apple seems to be churning out software as an afterthought. No, software is not where they make their money, but they are ruining their reputation. Ah, well, first world problems.

  • Multiclip editing with 'broken' clips

I've got three DIFFERENT takes of a group singing a song.
I want to use the sound from one take - making that take the master.
The other two takes wander in and out of time.  I'd like to chop them up to make sections fit, then fill the non-fitting spaces with blank slugs.  And then I'd like to be able to work on the song as a multiclip.
So the timecode will not be contiguous on two of the tracks.  Clip, blank, clip, blank.
Mmmm.  So, as far as I can tell, I'd have to export out those two tracks, re-import them as new media, THEN make a multi-clip.
Or can someone suggest a way I can work with the two tracks that will have a dozen clips (and blanks filled with slugs) each on them ... without having to create another generation of the media?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hey Ben
It's XDCAM EX (from a Sony EX3).  Mmm. GOP.  Maybe I could export it as ProRes 4:2:2 HQ, I wonder if that would make a difference?  Are you suggesting there is generational loss from XDCAM?
Any time you recompress when working with a compressed codec then there is necessarily a generational loss ... though how bad it is will depends on how lossy the codec. When you Export > Quicktime Movie from FCP, if the clip isn't otherwise processed, then you're just copying the bits from the original files, frame for frame, not necessarily recompressing ... but where the codec has a GOP format (like XDCAM) then any edits at all to the original file can compromise that GOP structure, which means no matter which way you cut it the whole GOP structure has to be rebuilt (re-conformed), which effectively means that you get a recompression. Exporting as ProRes 422 is still a recompression, but it's a very good quality I-frame codec so at least you'd end up with a clip thats in a more edit friendly format (and whats widely considered to be a "visually lossless" one.
I've been able to sync up the three takes ... the tempo is different in each, very slight, so every now and then I lose a second (or less than) as I re-sync.  Fill the spaces with slugs.  But they are all sitting on the timeline, stacked on their own tracks.
One of them is the master take chosen by the client.  The other two are with the breaks (to adjust sync).  I will make a ProRes 4:2:2 HQ of each.  And then I should be able to sync all three as multiclips, right?
Once you've got your clips all synced up on the timeline then you're going to want to export each track as a separate clip. Unfortunately, unlike some other NLE's, FCP does not currently allow you to create multiclips from an existing stack of clips that are pre synced in the timeline. Instead, as noted, you'll have to export each of the 3 tracks as separate clips and then reimport those clips, select them, and choose Modify menu > Make Multiclip... it'll ask you how you want to sync them,  if you've made them as above then you should be able to gang them together according to their In Points.
    Hope it helps
    Andy
