Keynote won't open

I tried to open a PPT file in Keynote and it crashed. Ever since then, Keynote won't open at all. It seems to open, then crashes in 5 seconds. Need to use Keynote on my laptop and I don't have my discs right now either.

Are you referring to the iOS app that you tried to open a ppt in, or desktop. You posted in iOS/iPad iWork community. But refer to using the laptop.
iOS only - Restart device completely by holding down the power button until the red slider shows up and shut down. Resart and see if it works.
If that doesnt work, or its desktop only and restart doesnt fix it, I would reinstall Keynote. Desktop can be done if you purchased through the AppStore I beleive.
On iOS, make sure you sync your device prior to deleting Keynote. I had it delete all documents in my "iTunes: folder when I did this once. Use iTunes to copy all files in Keynote iTunes folder to your desktop, then delete and reinstall the app. Make sure you restart your device.

If you have not done so remove any files relating to iWork and Keynote and reinstall iWork
files that must go are:
the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications;
the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support
the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library >
There are a number of free application removal tools that will do this for you:

I'm trying to update to keynote 09. I've done this but the old keynote icon is still on my dock? and keynote won't open?

I've gone into iTunes. Upgraded my keynote to 09 (ie with the blue icon instead of the brown wooden one) but still the old (brown wooden) icon appears on my dock. When i click on keynotes they won't open? I've got keynote already on my other mac and its paid for so shouldn't i be able to use on my second mac? (I use two macbook airs each day for work. switching between them.

The previous version of Keynote is not deleted when you install the new version. There are serious problems using the new version of Keynote (which is version 6 not 09 as you stated). Best advice until Apple sort these problems is to use version 5 to open existing files and only use version 6 for new presentations.

Keynote won't open after updates! SOS!

Hi, I originally started out with Keynote version 2 and I wanted to update it. I got as far as version 3.0.2 before I couldn't update anymore. Now, when I click on Keynote, it won't open at all. It simply bounces once and that's it. I need this desperately to open in order to finish my project for school. Help would be much appreciated!

As I mentioned above, if you want Keynote 3, you'll have to buy iWork '08.
If you want to use the Keynote 2 that you've got, you'll have to do some back-tracking: remove all the Keynote-related files (applications, plist's, and receipts),restart in "Safe" mode, then reinstall Keynote 2 and its subsequent updates.

I have version 5.3 now. I created the file in this version and it worked a few days ago? No changes, no updates. I go to install the latest version and my computer says it's already installed. ???? I already did all my updates for this computer. Now it won't open any of my keynote files that have been previuosly created, only new ones.

Firefox doesn't have any built-in ability to display PowerPoint files in a tab. You can check how Firefox is set to handle PowerPoint files in the Options dialog:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Applications
''This list may take a while to load.'' In the search box above the list, you can type pow and let Firefox filter it down. Usually these would say "Always Ask" but you might have customized them to "Use Microsoft Powerpoint".
There are some sites that have a Flash-based PowerPoint viewer, such as OneDrive/SkyDrive and SlideShare. Maybe Gmail has one now, too, I haven't checked. But all such sites also should have a separate download button, either before showing their viewer or as part of the viewer. If there are particular sites where you notice this problem, maybe someone know how to bypass the viewer on that site and go straight to a download.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote won't open

Trying to use Pages - latest version - on my Mac, but it won't open. Neither will Numbers or Keynote.
Tried to reinstall, but the computer said no go.

Applications that can store documents in iCloud include Preview, TextEdit, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, GarageBand, and some third-party software such as "DayOne," "iA Writer," "MindNode," and perhaps others. If some or all of those applications are suddenly not working well, there may be a problem with iCloud synchronization.
Back up all data.
Open the iCloud preference pane in System Preferences and uncheck the box marked Documents & Data. See whether there's any improvement. If there is, continue.
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. From the folder that opens, move this folder to the Desktop:
Mobile Documents (or any other item with a name beginning that way)
and move this folder to the Trash:
Application Support/Ubiquity
Re-enable Documents & Data, log out, log back in, and test. The folders should be recreated automatically. If the issue is resolved, delete the folder you moved to the Desktop.
If you continue to have the same problems, I suggest you contact iCloud Support.

Keynote won't open in all accounts on same machine

I started having problems with keynote ver2 on g4 17 inch powerbook after going from 10.3.9 to 10.4.4 so to solve the problem i purchased i works06 and installed it as an update however the problem persists
namely when i attempt to launch or open existing keynote file the program won't load or crashes before any thing happens on the screen
the really strange thing is i set up a new user account and then opened keynote and voila it works but not under the original(and prev only) account
i have restarted , run disk repair/permissions reinstalled trashed plist files till i'm blue in the face
mail is also acting weird since update
any suggestions or solutions??

if a new user works it's either your Keynote prefs (maybe you missed one?) or there could be a bad font in your user fonts folder. Past that I can't think of anything user specific that would crash Keynote.

Keynote won't open the Inspector.

Each time I try to open the Inspector I get the following message:
An unexpected error has occurred.
Please quit and reopen Keynote.
I'm running Keynote '09 version 5.1 (1018)
OSX 10.6.8
I've run system update and run all the latest updates.
I've repaired permissions with disk utility.
I've deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09.plist

I have exactly the same issue with Keynote 5.3 from the App Store. I've wiped all trace of Keynote and installed from the App Store again. Repaired permissions etc... Opening the Inspector causes Keynote to produce the |"unexpected error" message every single time.

I am upgraded in Keynote currently and I went to open a keynote from last year- usually is says to update it. THis time the keynote says it was created in 1969? Maybe I saved it last year when the date was messed up- who knows. It says to save in 09 first but I can't get it to open in the first place. What do I do- I need it soon!

Keynote won't open '09 file

I just updated to Maverick. I have some data located on a keynote presentation I made last year that I wan't to cut and paste into a Pages document. I can't open the keynote presentation. Says it can't read it?? While I have enjoyed the banter surrounding the Keynote's inability to open '09 files, I am looking for someone who will actually be able ot help me open these and other Keynote files.

PPTs exported from Keynote won't open in Powerpoint 12.2.8

When I export a Keynote 09 file as a Powerpoint and then try to open it in Powerpoint 12.2.8 I get the following error message. "There was an error accessing Symbiont:Users:Symbiodin:Desktop:02EpitheliatextA.ppt This happens with all files I export as ppts, not just one. Curiously, the files will open in Powerpoint 12.2.7? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or better yet, have a solution for it. (-;{

I also had this problem. I found, by trial and error, that an image I had in my master slides caused the issue. When I removed it, exporting to PowerPoint worked correctly.
This image had been there for a long time, and I'm not sure what was wrong with that image. It used to export fine with older versions of Keynote. Or the latest Office update broke it. I'm not sure who is at fault, as I updated both.
Anyway, that might be something to try. Either in the master slides, or one of the slides.

Appstore keynote won't open (mountain lion)

Just downloaded Keynote 5.2 from the AppStore (Mountain Lion 10.8.2).
The icon keeps jumping forever until the app loading hangs.
It does not crash or present any message, just stays there like a zombie. Not alive, not dead.
Anyone seem this before?

Gary, no windows open, just Keynote.
I manage to 'fix' it tough.
All that was needed was a reboot of my new Windows Mountain Lion
Never had to reboot a Mac computer so many times in my life.

I updated Keynote and now it is done, but i can not open the application "because it is still updating, and programs that are updating can not e opened", i don't understand, it is done updating and I have used it a couple of times after updating it and now i can not open it again...!

Keynote won't open some Office Open XML / .pptx files

I'm a developer trying to generate .pptx documents (i.e. Office 2007, Office Open XML) and would like to open them in Keynote. I already can successfully generate .pptx files which PowerPoint opens fine, but those same documents don't open in Keynote. I get the following errors in Console.app:

Welcome to the discussions, tlrobinson.
To my knowledge, Apple only supports opening of .ppt documents, hence the error message you're getting.
