Keypad adding letters

My Curve 9300 (only a few months old) has developed a problem overnight with the keypad. It is adding o's and u's to other vowels, and I can't lock it with the 'a' key because it adds a 'u' etc etc. Any help urgently appreciated! Have taken battery out and rebooted, problem still there.

Remove your battery and reset your device,
if not then try this:

• My Ipad2 has started adding letters between words when I type. The letters are usually, but not always, m. I use Safari browser. Can't figure this one out!

Adding to the question I posted, my iPad will string words together by inserting letters (usually m, but sometimes n) between. Even when I back up and delete the extra letter, it will pop up again until the second delete. So it's in autocorrect? Have I taught my device to do this by being a sloppy typist?

• 8700g Strange Keypad Issue: Letters typed do not appear on screen

I support two 8700g users. I too am an 8700g user and have not experienced this problem: randomly and intermittently, the users report when they are typing messages on the keypad, strange combinations of letters appear instead. There is no apparent pattern to which keys are pressed, what order they are pressed in, or what appears on the screen; this, too, is random. This aggravating problem appears and disappears at will whether or not the battery is removed or not. Of the two units, one is brand new as of January 2008 while the other has had some exposure to water and has been wiped twice, once for this weird keypad issue. The language selected is English and the auto-text is off on both units. The units otherwise work according to specification. We are on a BES using MS Exchange. I have read on other boards sometimes there are identifiable patterns in what is keyed and what appears, but I have not been able to establish such patterns with these users. Can anyone offer a diagnosis and a permanent solution? Thank you.

Thank you, Bifocals, for your reply! Memory is an issue, but more importantly a recognizable pattern DID emerge so I could identify and resolve the issue: when the user typed "a" they got "on on" and when they typed "no" they got "pt no pot" - which I learned is caused by the input language accidentally being changed to Catala. I learned via this and in other BB forums the input language can be easily changed when the ALT and CAP keys are pressed simultaneously, the old way of locking the keyboard on the BB 7250.
Eureka!

• PIXMA MX522 using the keypad for letters and numbers

I need to use a password to log onto a wireless network which has letters and numbers. The letters are the easy part but how do you get the keypad on the printer to give numbers. The password is: abc261 (example only) they key pad does the "abc" part but how do I get it to add the number "261"? Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

This might help
Press the SETUP button on your printer's control panel.
Using the arrows, select DEVICE SETTINGS, press OK.
Select LAN SETTINGS and press OK.
Select Wireless LAN Setup and press OK.
If a message appears to press the WPS button, press STOP to cancel.
Select STANDARD SETUP from the next screen that appears and press OK.
Highlight your access point or router and press OK.
Press OK again to confirm the access point name.
Enter your passphrase using the keypad to the right.
At the screen where you enter your passphrase, in the top right corner of the LCD screen you should see a :1 . This indicates that you are in numeric entry mode. If you press the asterisk key (*) it will switch to :A or uppercase letter mode, pressing asterisk again with switch to lowercase letter mode. To enter a letter in either letter mode, you will press the associated number key to cycle through the available letters. For example: To enter a letter "c", you will press the "2" key three times.
Press OK when done.
The LCD screen will say "Connected" if the password is correct.

• Keypad displays letters instead of numbers

I'm trying to input my WPA key for wireless setup. When I enter it, only letters show up and I'm unable to connect.

Try holding down the Fn key and tap NumLock, see if this works ?

• Adding letters to a string

Hi,
Is it possible to add on one letter at a time to a string, to create a word, like when you go through a loop.
Loop 1: add a - String = a

Loop 3: add c - String = abc
Thanks

It appears to be out of date so far as the warranty is concerned. There may have been some minor detritus slipped down the side of the key. See if you can find a buush with stiff but fine hair. Perhaps a toothbrush. Then brush around the key. It is possible to remove the key if you are very careful and that would make it easier but you have to be very careful. You are sure there hasn't been any liquid spilt; even the smallest amount can cause a drama..

• NUMERIC KEYPAD

This is a very basic question but does anyone know how to change the numeric keypad to letters ? When on a call I need to change the numbers to letters but don't know how to do this.

The phone keypad does not change. If you need to enter a phone number expressed as letters, just type the corresponding key that shows the letters beneath the numbers. For example, APPLE is 27553.
If you want to type something else during a call, tap the speaker button to put the call on speaker and press the home button and tap the app you want to use such as Notes, and type your note. Tap the green bar at the top of the screen to return to the phone.

• Is my ipad keyboard hosed?

The keyboard (keypad?) on my ipad has a mind of it's own adding letters that I didn't type. I have had the dickens of a time trying to get messages written. Have to backtrack, delete the unwanted characters, then start again.very frustrating. I have AppleCare. Must wait till my friend with a Mac is back in town do that i can backup to itunes and then troubleshoot on a restored ipad. My question is: Has anyone heard of ipad becoming c onscious and typing what itnwants to? Grrrr.
Thanks for any replies folks!
Cheers

• Some buttons without tones after updating firmware...

Hi.
After updated firmware to version 20.0.080 (5530 Xpress Music), some tones and vibrates at dialing pad (just numbers) and at Contacts (main screen) don't work any more.
All other functions work normaly just as described, but some tones and vibrating functions doest'n seem to react. I have set touch screen tones on level 2, also the vibrate on level 2. Tryed to reinstal the latest firmware again, done succesfuly, but no changes.
Should I try to restore the phone by *#7370# ???
Is anybody facing the same issue ???
br,

Hey,
I have the same problem with my phone. After the update, installing v.20.0.080 the dial tone from the keypad just dissapeared. These morons at Nokia instead of adding letters to the keypad dialer with the new firmware, they went further and removed the dial tone. Such a progressive step..

• Text dropping when creating pdf in acrobat 7 standard

This just started about a week ago. One of our user is adding pages to an existing pdf, using exisitng pdf files and new ones created from word and excel files by printing to the PDF printer. Sometimes it happens right away and sometimes it happens after a few pages are added. letters and numbers just randomly disappear from the pdf. a blank space remains in its place. If you print the document the text is missing from the print out as well. She says she hasn't done anything new or changed any settings. It just started happeneing and it happens on random files as well. I updated her to 7.1 but no deal. I tried removing it from her system and reinstalling, still hainv ghte problem. It happens on other machines as well so I think that rules out something on her machine. I've been researching it to find an answer but nothing seems to work.
I tried the suggestion of delteting the fntcache.dat file and many other things. Its causing issues in her department since she can't get this document finished. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have this same problem. I have tried with both embedded fonts and not; I get no errors.
I've tried increasing virtual memory, playing with PDF setting compatibility (6.0 to 5.0), changing my dpi settings... I've tried printing to .ps or saving directly as PDF. Nothing seems to work.
Note that in one document, I was able to solve this problem by removing and replacing an index marker, but in the document exhibiting this behavior now, there is no offending index marker.
It starts in the table of contents and drops text throughout the book.
I am using:
Acrobat Distiller 7.0
Framemaker 7.0

• How to capture system status & date in project?

Hi all
I'm using transaction CJ20N for managing all R & D projects.
I want to make a report where I need to capture status REL & CNF of every stage with respective dates.
Can you help me to provide a procedure how to find it through tables?
For example I find process order status in table JCDS & JEST by adding letters OR followed by 4 zeros as a prefix to process order & enter in to field object number.
Please help.

Hi,
Follow the same procedure by using the object number of the WBS. It starts with "PR". You can get the object number of the WBS from PRPS table. To get the object number of the activities you can refer the table AFVC. Pass on the WBS in the AFVC table and execute it. This will list all the activitiies that fall under the WBS you entered.
As an alternative you can use the report CN41N to fetch objects with the REL and CNF status. Change the layout to include the column "Status" in the report. You need to define a status selection profile to fetch only the objects having the REL and CNF status. Refer SAP Help to understand more about this.

• Is it possible to sort folders by date that is written in the folders name? eg. folders are named 26 May 2011 and so on

Hi,
Question as in the topic: Is it possible to sort folders by date that is written in the folders name? eg. folders are named 26 May 2011 and so on
Thanks
Karol

I sort mine 5.1.11, 5.2.11, etc. - that works (adding letters to the numerals does not work as well). Starting with the month will also work better because there are only 12 of them (rather than a repetition of days).

• Can a function return more than one item or object?

Hi I am trying to move text movies and textfields around a stage. This is a learning curve for me. I am confused by an example I have found on the internet.
http://forums.adobe.com/community/flash/flash_actionscript
What type of object is
var letter:Object = getLetterObject(_text.charAt(i)); // in the draw function
as it has properties
letter.stepDegrees = _totalAngle / numOfLetters;
getLetterObject()
seems to return lotts of stuff which would not be done in other languages like C
return
movie:movie,
field:field,
widthInDegrees:0,
fieldWidth:field.width,
fieldHeight:field.height
I would like to get my head around this as this is a good example of what I need. Well parts of it actualy.
I understand that the text field is added as a child to the Movieclip. I would have expected just a MovieClip object returned.

Hi
I still think I need an Object parent child linkage diagram on this to get my head around it.
It seems that things are reversed so that it is Object:value. Kind of confusing to see movie:movie.
var letter:Object = getLetterObject(_text.charAt(i));
letter holds the following objects
MovieClip:Movie
TextField:field
widthInDegrees:0 // What is this. What type is a widthInDegrees
fieldWidth:field.width // Same as above
fieldHeight:field.height // Same as above
And to cap it all, back in the calling function draw()
letter.stepDegrees = _totalAngle / numOfLetters; // What is stepDegrees a property of? MovieClip,TextField, widthInDegrees, fieldWidth or fieldHeight
I can understand the first two but not the last three
For example widthInDegrees is not mentioned anywhere in the code. and
letter.stepDegrees // implies that stepDegrees is a property of Object:letter.
Do you throw a property and value blindly at the letter object and let flash work out which object it is a property of?
MovieClip & TextField do not have this property. Searched the web for this information. We need an equivelent of MSDN.
Desmond.

• What happened to Auto-Correct in the iOS 7 update & can it be fixed?

I am sooo frustrated & I can't take it anymore!!!
My keyboard has essentially taken on a mind of it's own since I did the iOS 7 update. And by the 'coded' messages I receive from family & friends, followed by "#%*+ed Auto-Correct!!!" I know I'm not the only one!
I find it changes words that are spelled correctly & are grammatically sound into something different. It doesn't know what an apostrophe is anymore. It has no sense of humor 'cause it can't figure out how to lol without capitalizing or turning it into something else. (My sister Quoll'ed at me earlier!)
What's goin' on & how can I get it back to the only sorta-sucky, but mostly funny stuff it did in iOS 6?
Thanks.

I've observed this too and have written to Apple feedback. Suggest everyone else do so as well.
What's happening is they've attempted to implement an autocorrect system that doesn't just look at the current word but the current word and the previous word. In theory that's a great idea, as sometimes the correct spelling will be dependent on context. Mostly, though, its effects are too aggressive and I find I'm ending up with many more errors than under iOS 6 (and I'm fairly accurate on the iP*).
The thing I specifically complained out – since it makes no sense at all – is the way iOS 7 autocorrect seems to hate commas!
If I type a phrase like "the line, therefore" iOS 7 will attempt to turn "line," into some a word without punctuation, e.g. "lines" or "lined". Only after I've typed "therefore" will it offer me the possibility of returning to what I actually typed ("line,"). And if I'm in a rush and don't tap the [x] on the proposed "correction" in time then I'm stuck with it and have to go back and manually edit. (Or I don't notice and end up sending someone a complete nonsense of a sentence.)
This kind of autocorrect is completely nuts. Especially on the iPhone, where you have to go to a different screen of the keyboard to type a comma, so you're hardly going to do it by accident! And on the iPad the corrections almost never involve adding letters that are physically close to the comma key on the keyboard, so again, you're hardly going to hit the comma key by accident if you want, for example, "lines".
My recommendation to Apple was that auto-correct should always respect all punctuation. (Or there should be a setting we switch on for "respect punctuation".)
And that autocorrect should focus on trying to correct the kinds of "real" errors that are made by tapping on adjacent keys instead of aggressively trying to predict what we're about to say and actually changing our words.
In the meantime, I've set up a custom shortcut [,,] which resolves to [, ] – basically on the same principle as two spaces resolving to a period. When I remember to use it, it mostly works quite well at giving me commas that stay stuck.
