Keypad doesn't work

Since upgrading to InDesign Mac 10.0.4, my keypad no longer works for typing numbers. When I type on the 10-key pad, it moves my cursor around in the textbox instead. I don't have a number-lock key on my Mac keyboard. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm having a similar problem with InDesign CS2, Mac OSX 10.3.9. Occasionally the delete keys and the arrow keys do not work in InDesign. When I press them, nothing happens. It's random and it isn't associated with any particular document. I haven't figured out what fixes it it; it just ends starts working again later. It doesn't happen in any other program.

Keypad doesn't work on connected calls that require keypad entry

I have a problem I see earlier in the discussion forum. But I thought it might make sense to start a new thread. The keypad doesn't work when I'm connected to a number that then requires keypad entry.
For instance, calling my own home voice mail (not the cellphone voice mail), I'm asked to hit * then enter my home phone number. The keypad goes black on me. Sometimes it won't work at all; sometimes the * works, then it goes black on the first number; sometimes I get two or three numbers, then it goes black. But I never get all the way through.
Since my home phone is Verizon, I thought it might be a Verizon/AT&T problem. So I tried it on some other numbers that require keypad entries after I get a connect. Same problem.
I've talked it through with Apple Support. They agreed it was a problem and sent a replacement phone. It arrived this morning. Same problem with the replacement phone. And that's the bare phone; none of my software loaded. I simply moved the Sim card to the new phone and called my home voicemail number.
I've also checked with my daughter who also has an iPhone 3g. Same problem. I have an appointment with my local Apple store this coming Friday. We'll see what happens. But it doesn't look good.
Anyone have any thoughts?

No case. I do have an anti-glare film set but it's certainly not the problem. This connected keypad problem is the only place it occurs. If it were a problem, one would likely see it with more apps. In addition, it occurs with the new iPhone Apple sent me and with my daughter's phone.
Try it on yours. See if it works.

Keypad doesn't work during voicemail

When I access my voicemail, I can listen to the first message, but when I try to use the keypad (7, 9, etc), it doesn't work. The numbers I'm hitting show up on the screen, but the vm isn't deleted or saved so I can't listen to the remaining vm.
The keypad works for everything else, just not when I'm trying to navigate through vm.

Please see the link in my auto-sig on this post for proper backup instructions. If you can keep your BB running, regardless of what the display shows, you should be able to take a backup...and you really really really need a solid backup, given what you are describing (it could get worse as time passes).

We want to make sure that everythig is working on the device without any kind of issues. When did you notice that the dial pad went away once a phone call is made or received? Do you have a screen protector on the phone that covers the sensors on the device? Please keep us posted.

Number keypad doesn't work on calculator widget

I am not sure why, but my number keypad is no longer working. It works on regular documents, but not on the calculator widget. How do I fix this?

Does it work on the Calculator.app? I don't use widgets, but yours might be corrupted.

Tecra A4: F10 buttons flash on, then keypad doesn't work

Dear Toshiba support,
After often travelling with my laptop a Toshiba Tecra A4, the F10 button flashes, some keys dont work and a pop-up window says you are holding down the CTRL key when I am not.
Im not sure if the keypad needs replacing or the motherboard.
It is a wonderful workhorse laptop, so would prefer to repair, though not sure if it is a keypad or mother board repair.
Has anyone experienced similar and can suggest a remedy?
All advice and suggestions very much appreciated.

Did you try to press CTRL key once again to check if you can disable this?
To be honest its not easy to say what could affect the keyboard functionality but it could be possible that the keyboard starts to malfunctions
In such case it would be enough to replace the keyboard.
But the point is that this is only an assumption.
Maybe its better to check the old keyboard firstly (this is a job for technician) before purchasing a new one.

I use iMac OS 10.6.8 (uptodate Snow Leopard) with Firefox for Mac 23.0.1. Online and at other times, my number pad doesn't work. Is there a 'Num Loc/unloc' on the keyboard?

On line or otherwise, my number keypad doesn't work, then I get a 'freeze.' Number keypad works durning sign in.

Hi, sometimes Shift+clear works as numlock.
Also open System Preferences>Universal Access>Keyboard tab, & see if Sticly keys is on.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Iphone 3g: Clicking phone number in calendar doesn't work

Clicking on phone number in email will prompt for calling the number but the same doesn't work in calendar. Is it a known issue ?

Adding my agreement to this issue. Since iPhone recognizes phone numbers everywhere else, it's very disappointing that it doesn't work in calendar. This is probably the most important place for phone number recognition. considering there is no cut/paste feature, this means I have to write down the number on paper and the manually enter into the keypad, very inconvenient!
When this is addressed, it will be very important to include recognition of additional numbers and characters used for conference calls, like the blackberry has done for years.

I can scroll down web pages with my Lenovo ThinkPad X200. I could, but then I got some updates and it doesn't work. I can scroll fine with an external mouse. I just can't use the "scroll controls" on my laptop. Any ideas why? It's frustrating!

When I got my machine two years ago and loaded Firefox, I could scroll with the red button that's on the keyboard of the Lenovo ThinkPad x200. Then, a few months ago, Firefox was updated. Not sure which version. And, now I can't scroll. The keypad scroll works in MS Windows programs. It just doesn't work in Firefox. I can't get anywhere with the options so I'm stuck for now. (The scrolling works in Internet Explorer). So, I think it's something that going on with FireFox not with my computer.

In general, you are correct - but also your server does need to be properly configured (and those errors above lead me to think it may not be) to serve the file types that your uploading - but it could be something else entirely. Can you zip up your composition folder, upload it to your Creative Cloud files, set it to share, and then post a link here so I can download it? If you'd rather not share it publicly, can you PM me with a link to your composition files?

Updated to IOS6, maps doesn't work

So I updates my software to ios6, was really looking forward to it as iv waited months like so may others and its terrible.
My maps doesn't work at all, the location is completely wrong and when I switch to hybrid or satellite view it just goes into black grids and doesn't come on, when I do get a picture in an area miles away from me it's black and white, I understand it only came out today and there will be glitches but the new maps is one of the main things in the update so I expected that to be up to scratch, also my keypad is forever freezing since iv updated.
In all honesty I'm actually really disappointed in the update and if I'd have know I'd have stuck with ios5, the colour scheme was a lot better in the old version to, just wondering if anyone else has came across the map problem?

im having the same trouble funny how they never mentioned this before we updated i wasnt expecting the 3d flyover view to work on iphone 4 because of the lack of appropiate processing power but i wasnt expecting to lose the hybrid or satellite view all im left with is the basic mapping view
cmon apple fix it or at least let us have google maps back as an option

Safari doesn't work on my new iPad

I have a new iPad and Safari won't work. I have WiFi connectivity (in my house) but no SIM card. Regardless, my old iPad Safari worked fine but this new one doesn't. Email, You Tube, etc. all work fine; just not Safari. Please help me.

Yes, that's correct. The address bar is shaded grey and doesn't do anything when I tap on it. Also, the keypad doesn't appear either when I'm on the Safari screen. It works fine elsewhere (e.g. email, banking, etc.) The Safari page looks like it's in a dormant state.

Irony: Concierge doesn't work on iPhone

Ahh, the irony.
The Apple Concierge, the app you use to make a genius bar appointment, doesn't work on the iphone.
Somehow I managed to make an appointment, but I had to use the 'go' button in the keypad because the 'next' button is usually dimmed.
I shouldn't be that surprised: The ADC page on developing web content for the iPhone at <http://developer.apple.com/iphone/designingcontent.html> is unreadable on the iPhone as well.

DVD menu doesn't work right in DVD players

I've created a DVD in Encore for Mac. It plays fine on my Mac and on Windows. However, once it is inserted into a stand alone DVD player, the menu doesn't work right. I have four text menus. In the DVD player, none of those are navigable. Arrowing up or down doesn't work. You have to click a number on the remote keypad and then play. This also causes "Channel 1" or "Channel 2" and so on to display. Any ideas how I can get the arrow keys to work? I don't have a stand alone dvd player to test against.
Also, in Windows, I have someone that wants to duplicate the dvd. They're using Movie Maker. It gives an error that the codec is not installed but doesn't say which codec. Any ideas on that?

The only time I recall similar problems was the issue Jeff was asking about above (Mac, Encore CS3, certain OS). If you don't solve this otherwise, I'd experiment with that.
You appear to have confirmed that there is button navigation. (In button routing, each button points to another.) Where does it break down?
On the Mac/PC, are you using the mouse? In the computer DVD software player, there should be a "remote" that you can use to see if the button navigation is working. Does the computer "remote" option work? If so, it makes it not working in a standalone player even odder.
If not, then look at whether the project works before you burn to disk. Does the "remote" work in the Encore preview? Or build to a folder, then play the DVD from the folder. (I don't know how on Mac; on PC, I find the first .ifo in the VIDEO_TS folder, and play that.)

Mini-DVI to S-Video Adapter doesn't work

Hi, I am using the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter from apple to connect my macbook to the TV. But the only thing I get is a grey flickering picture on my TV. When I click on the monitor-button I can see that my macbook detects only a monitor (but not a TV) in addition to the macbook-LCD-display. I tried all different resolutions, but needless to say it doesn't work.
Can the adapter be broken, or is there a problem with the macbook?

If you connect the Mini-DVI to S-Video adapter, the monitor button on the menubar should show resolutions for Color LCD in one section and NTSC/PAL in the other.
A grey flickering picture is indicative of picking the wrong standard-PAL vs. NTSC.

DVI to Video adapter doesn´t work! HELP!

I bought a dvi to video adapter (RCA or SVideo) and I already tried on two diferent TVs and none of them worked? What should I do? Does it have a setup to do?

We really need some more details to be able to help with your situation.
Is the adapter an Apple one, or some other brand?
What model TVs do you have? Please be as specific with the model numbers as possible.
When you say it doesn't work, what exactly happens?
And finally: what kind of Mac do you have? You posted in the Mac Mini forum, but your signature says MacBook.
If it is a Mac Mini, did you set it up initially using a regular monitor first?
