Keypad: Locate Accent Key, standard keyboard is under Tilde Key

How can I get the ascent key (which is under the Tilde key, top left on a standard keyboard) on an iPhone? You would think by holding down the Tilde ~ key on the iPhone the key would appear.

hold the vowel you want the accent mark over and it will appear with a series of letters
This doesn't solve the problem, which is that some people need to make a ` (grave accent) all by itself for passwords. If you know a way to do that, a lot of people will be interested in it.

My left arrow does not work on my macbook pro(model A1226).
I have reset nvram, performed a safe boot, pulled the cache to desktop, replaced .globalpreference.plist, & tested all other keys with "keyboard viewer" (all other keys work except for the arrow).
In addition, I have gone thru all the recommended checks with universal access and have booted from snow leopard dvd and the left arrow still does not work.
I have tried using the left arrow key in all of applications I use such as: excel, ms word, address book, calendar, iphoto, terminal, & highlighting an icon and using the arrows to move to another selected icon.
Here is the kicker!  In addition, I purchased a logitech solar bluetooth keyboard and the arrows work fine with my ipad but do not work when paired with the macbook pro. All other keys work fine on the macbook pro using the bluetooth keyboard.
I believe this says that the problem is not in my macbook pro keyboard. So where can it be?
Can anyone think of any other rabbit holes I can search?
    thanks and regards

I would also like to add that I've reverted the two cd drive and hard drive mods I did and the laptop is back to factory hardware and there is 0 corrosion or mold visible.

  • Tilde key on Slovenian keyboard?

    Heya everyone!
I'm from Slovenia and I've been using Illustrator for quite some time now. However I have recently found out that I can't acces the so called "tilde key" because my keyboard doesn't have one. So now after looking for a solution on the internet for a while, I have come here to Adobe forums in hopes of finding the answer I'm looking for. It is absolutely imperative that I find the answer, because I will need the functions of that keyboard shortcut a lot in the future.
My question is which key will act as the tilde key on my keyboard.
Or perhaps is it possible to assign a custom key inside Illustrator to perform the functions of the tilde key?
Thanks for your answers and have a great day!

    Tiki,
That key is placed differently on different (language/country) keyboards, so I am afraid you will have to try out all the keys until you find it. In any case it will probably be the fastest way to find out. As far as I remember, the Slovenian key has never been revealed in any of the threads about it, such as this one:

  • Satellite P200-10S - problem with Tilde key

    Hello,
I purchased my laptop recently and installed a game (Oblivion) and in this game we can call up the console of the game but i cant call it because the key doesnt work. The Tilde key next to 1. I've been googling and noticed that lots of people with windows vista on laptops have this problem... can anyone help me?
Is that any chance that the key becomes blocked on fullscreen mode?
    (sorry my english)
    Thanks in advance,
    Francisco

    Hello Francisco
This game is not known to me but it will be interesting to know if this game is designed for WXP or Vista OS. Anyway if the same issue is noticed by many other notebook users I do not see any solution here. It seems to be that problem is not caused by defective notebook or something similar. If your notebook works well you should visit Game homepage and see if there is some solution.
Notebook manufacturers have noting to do with it.

  • The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working. Help!

The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working with my Macbook pro.  If I plug the keyboard into any other computer, that entier key works fine. I'm using a standard Mac wired keyboard, & it's worked fine for 2 years now. Help!
This is the keyboard I am using: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB110LL/B/apple-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad
Not sure what I might have accidentily done to disable the enter key. (The normal enter key works fine, just the one on the numeric keypad.)
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi there,
Do you have any resolution to this problem in the end? Because it happened to me an exact same thing.
Please share if you have found a solution to your problem. I also cannot think of what I did wrong to disable the Enter key.

  • Quick Step Keyboard Shortcuts Work With Number Keys Above Keyboard, But Not On Keypad

Had this same issue with Outlook 2013:
"I assigned hotkeys to several Quick Steps, and used the suggested convention of Ctrl + Shift +1, Ctrl + Shift + 2... through 5.
When I use the number keys above my QWERTY keys, all is well.
When I use the keys on my keypad, Outlook does funny things like collapsing all the day's e-mails into the "Today" heading."
Correct. The keypad values do different things and you can't substitute the keys - you need to use the row numbers with the QAT."
Ergonomically, the number keys on the numpad are far superior to the ones above the keyboard for processing email quickly and easily (and without carpel tunnel!). I'm right-handed so it's much more natural for me to hold down the same two control keys (alt-shift)
with my left hand and select the action (a different key every time) I want with my right. Can do it opposite, but requires more conscious thought and is more subject to error (which defeats the whole purpose when I have to go fish a mis-acted on email out
    of the wrong folder).
Was wondering if this issue had been corrected in 2013 (or there was an easy workaround that doesn't involve writing and maintaining a separate macro or installing/maintaining a separate program like AutoHotKeys). The built-in functionality is 99% what I need,
but the ergonomic issue may make it unusable for me.

    Hi,
I can confirm in Outlook 2013 the shortcut keys can only use the number keys above "QWERTY..." and we can't use the number keys on the keypad. This comes by design and is not changeable currently.
Thank you for focusing on our product, since I can do few on this issue, you can submit your feedback about this request from this link below, Microsoft treasures users voice:

  • Under what keys is the CD drive located?

I have a 2011 mbp 17 inch.  When I move the computer left to right when it is off, there is a clicking noise coming from the right side of the computer.  I would like to know under what keys the CD drive is located so I can see if that is what is making the noise.

The silver box with the yellow tag is the optical drive.  It looks like the keys over it would be the row with the right side command key (at the bottom) up to the F9 key.  Then over to where you see the slot on the optical drive.

  • Certain Keys on Keyboard No Longer Work

    Hello,
As of a few minutes ago, my standard wired Mac Keyboard appears to be malfunctioning. The Tab and Caps Lock keys no longer work, and certain combinations of keys, such as alt-apple-esc, to bring up the force quit menu is no longer working either. I tried unplugging the keyboard and reconnecting it, I restarted, and I'm still having the same problem - it came out of nowhere.
Are peripherals like the keyboard and mouse covered under my Applecare warranty?
    Thanks,
    Lonny

Your keyboard and mouse should be covered, but before you give up on the keyboard, get hold of some compressed air and clean it. You can also turn the keyboard over and give it a sharp smack to see if anything is lodged under those keys.
Let us know how you make out,

  • HELP some non working keys on keyboard HP G60-519WM laptop..might need help removing keys?

I have had this laptop for a couple years now and I haven't had any problems with the keyboard, keys or their connection with my laptop. I have never spilt anything on it or been aggressive with the keyboard either. Tha essential problem is that now my T,Y,P,K,M keys and the CTRL and PAGE  keys (to the right of space bar) no longer work after cleaning my computer. There might be more but I haven't been able to tell what the Fn button and some function buttons fully do.
    How it all began:
Two weeks ago I noticed that the fan on my computer kept running and the computer would get warmer quite easily and take longer to cool down. It also started lagging or loading things slower than it should.
So I went onto HP's site and found their information on cleaning fans and vents and the information I saw in it mentioned all the problems my computer had. So I decided to follow their directions on how to clean the fan, vents and keyboard. I noticed alot of dust and small hairs from my dogs and small lint balls..more debri then I thought would be in my laptop.Nothing huge or that I would see as damaging but it definitley needed a cleaning.
So I let the computer sit for a while and then I turned it on and that is when I noticed some of the keys no longer worked. I decided to see if the device was installed properly and the computer said it was working fine, so I figured it might be debri stuck under the keys.
I followed the directions on how to turn off the computer and I got a small tool and a light to look under the keys and remove what I could see.. I did that with all of the keys, not just the ones that stopped working. I was surprised I was able to get alot of stuff out from under the keys. BUT the same keys still didnt work.
So far at this point I have used the on screen keyboard and an external keyboad (what I am using to write this) and thos keys work fine. I have checked the BIOS and the same keys didn't work (on the bios black screen). I tried to check the device and for updates or any errors and I didn't see any problems. I attampted to uninstall my keyboard which initially said it was a 101/102 keyboard and then when i restarted to finalize the process..the device registered in its place was now called a standard keyboard and the computer didnt ask me to reinstall the one i uninstalled.initially. So I don't know if that was a successful way of doing that or not.
    Sorry for my novel but I just want to make sure anyone who can help knows what I have been doing. My questions now are;
    A. did I do the bios test right?
    B. did i uninstall my keyboard right? if so then why would a different keyboard already be on as a device without me doing anything? if i didn't please help me on how to..
    C. I feel like there is debri trapped under these kes, is there anyway to remove each key to clean and inspect? if so how, because I haven't been able to find out any useful information about that process on this computer/keyboard?
    D. is there any thing else I could do besides removing the keyboard and replacing it?
     PLEASSE HELP ME?? THANK YOU!

you did not push the clips all the way in to secure the ribbon cable for the keyboard. the clips push a little further than you think if you do it right you can tug on the cable and can't pull it out.

  • Some keys on keyboard are not working

    Laptop: HP DM4 2070us
just recently, some of my keys are not responding or working when i press on them. I have not spilled or dropped my laptop but suddenly, my backspace, various numbers, and various f1 to f12 will not respond when i try to use them. it is very troublesome not being able to use my backspace bar and it is bugging me! i tried scanning my laptop for viruses but nothing was found. Im not sure if it could be a circuit problem or something but i need to fix it asap because i need my laptop for class. Please help me if anyone knows what may be the problem!!
    Thank you!

  • MSI, please stop using non-standard keyboard layouts.

God dam it MSI, why do you insist on messing with layout of the bottom row of the keyboard?
You get everything else right, but for some reason when it comes to the bottom row of keys you want to say "Industry standards? 20 years of tradition? Fack that, we're gonna move things around for no facking reason."
Explain to me why you feel the need to put a superfluous "\" key on the keyboard to the right of the space bar. Nobody wanted that, nobody was asking for that, nobody needs that. Why the hell did you do that?
Explain why the Menu key is missing in action.
Explain why you put the Windows key on the wrong side. And while you're at it, explain why you thought this clusterfack of having that second "\" key there in combination with the missing menu key being not where it is on top of the Windows key being in the wrong place was a good idea.
Bottom row of a standard keyboard layout goes like this:
Ctrl, Fn, Alt, Win, Space bar, Alt, Win, Menu, Ctrl.
    MSI layout goes like.
Ctrl, Fn, Alt Space Bar, \, Alt Gr, Win, Ctrl!
    WHY?!
MSI seems to think that having the keys in the right place so my fingers will know where they are without having to learn key placement all over again is a horrible idea. Instead they seem to think that my fingers should need to relearn the god dam keyboard all over again for no reason at all.
But hey, at least the kept the numpad the same, right?
    GOD DAM IT MSI!
Aparantly MSI logic works like this:
    Everyone uses the numpad.
Nobody uses the trackpad to game.
Delete that numpad that everyone uses, insert fancy trackpad that nobody will use.
    Profit?
What the hell are you people smoking?
Seriously, when is the last time you gamed on a PC with anything other than a mouse in your right* hand? Do you ever use the trackpad when you game? Ever? I own two laptops and I never, ever use the useless trackpad. I hate trackpads. First thing I do when I buy a new laptop? I plug in a mouse. Second thing I do? Disable the god dam trackpad.
*Some left-handed use of mice can occur. See nearest lefties for details. May contain nuts. For external use only.

I had a Gateway FX years ago that was a great laptop, but the "fn" key was at the bottom left instead of ctrl. I used that laptop for years and I was never able to become accustomed to it for gaming (group select ctrl+# ffs) or word processing, so I feel your pain.
That being said, you should be able to re-bind your keys without any problem, and possibly pop off the keys themselves and move them to their new locations if they're the same size and you like that consistency. You can rebind via the registry, or certain bios, or w/ a third party application.
The track pad is essential if you've got limited space and/or aren't a twitch gamer. For non-real time games, there is hardly any advantage to using a mouse over a good track pad.

  • Feature Suggestion for Keyboard System Preferences - Modifier Keys

I recently picked up an iMac and it came with the new low-profile aluminum small keyboard -- without the keypad.
I really like the small keyboard except for one thing -- the placement of the fn and control keys. The larger keyboard has three modifier keys on the left side: Control, Option, Command. The small keyboard has four: fn, Control, Option, Command.
It is annoying to switch between keyboards where the control key is in a different spot on each one. Retraining my finger on a per-keyboard basis is hard.
Apple thoughtfully provided in System Preferences a Keyboard control panel and it thoughtfully provided a "Modifier Keys..." popup to allow you to reassign the modifer keys. A great feature.
The problem is: you can't use this to modify the behavior of the 'fn' key. It is apparently hardcoded.
If I could use the modifier keys dialog to change the 'fn' into a 'Control', then I could use this keyboard without swearing everytime I miss the control key.
Another feature that would be great would be if I could also have different bindings for the modifers on the left side versus the modifiers on the right. That would allow me to reassign one of the right side modifier keys (that I never use) to be an 'fn' key.

I'm in the exact same boat as you...that Fn key is driving me nuts. I tried DoubleCommand and some other things as well, but the only thing that's coming close to what I want is a free download called "KeyRemap4MacBook."
Just go under the "Remap Fn Key" section and you can basically have it act as the Command key. (I actually always had my Command and Control keys swapped, so now both the Fn and Control keys now essentially act as the Command key.)
There are a few quirks I haven't figured out -- I can't seem to do Forward Delete -- but again, it's the only thing I've found so far that works.

  • HP Beats Special Edition 23-n010 Use a Standard Keyboard Driver

I love everything about the HP Beats Special Edition 23-n010 desktop Except for the keyboard.  I use various programs that use the F1-F12 fiunction keys.  Trying to type Fn-Alt-F4 is no easy feat.  I really don't need all the other special keys on this keyboard.
How can I replace this system's keyboard drives with a standard Windows keyboard driver.  This system is running Windows 8.1 x64.

    Hello @JohnG0814,
I understand that you are trying to use the standard keyboard on your HP Beats Special Edition 23-n010 All-in-One Desktop PC. NowI have gone through the User Guide for your computer and found nothing on disabling the HP Keyboard that you have by default.
I did however find something that may do the trick. In your BIOS which you can get to by restarting and tapping the F10 key you will see under 'Security' a sub-section named 'Secure Boot Configuration' that has a setting for Secure boot > Key Management > Key Ownership. If you go there you can change it to 'Custom keys', which I believe will resolve your keyboard issue. I am posting an image to help below.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
