Keypad lock code

hey
Recently i have decided i would like to have a keypad lock code, just to stop people picking up my phone and reading through messages, browsing pictures, etc.
I have changed the lock code and it is no longer 12345. I would like to activate it though so that when i want to enter my phone it requests it. when i am in phone and sim card settings at the top it says pin code request should i turn it on however if i do i am worried that it may activate options under it 'PIN code' & 'PIN2 code' i am un sure what these are. thanks for your time.
Also it is a nokia 5800!

there is a code you can chage for the phone itself and that is for the phone.
the pin and pin 2 are for your sim card different locks.
just enable your phone lock just make sure you will not forget your code and leave the pin and pin 2 alone

This fault has come out of the blue and until today the phone has worked perfectly.

  • E71 300.21.012 upgrade issue with keypad Locking

    Hi all...
I applied this upgrade (the *#0000# commnand confirmed it). After that I noticed a most annoying change - the phone either doesn't lock itself at all (when I set both keypad and phone autolock to none), or applies both the keypad lock and the phone autolock, even if I set the keypad lock to None and only the phone autolock to some period. Its cumbersome because one has to go through two unlocking procedures to unlock the phone...!  first the "Now press function key" and then the secret lock code...
the bug is that the E71 ignores the "none" option in the "keypad lock" option whenever the phone autolock option is set too. Before the upgrade, it didn't.
    Many thanks

i don't use the phone lock feature at all so i don't know if this behaviour was the same with the previous firmware version. i have tried it just now and yes you have to press the function key before entering the phone lock code. that is not the key lock function. i have set the key lock function to off. so it seems that pressing the function key before entering the phone lock code is the normal behaviour of the phone lock function. or at least it does it on my phone.
try and have both key lock and phone lock functions on and you will see the difference.
    cheers

  • 2310, minimum time delay for keypad lock

    Hi,
    I have a 2310, Virgin variant.
I can set an automatic keypad lock, but the minimum time delay is 10 seconds, and I want it to lock after 4 seconds. When trying set it to 4 seconds I can enter 4 seconds as my preferred time delay, but the handset just reverts to ten seconds. I can set it to time periods longer than 10 seconds without any difficulty. Is this normal?

  • Keypad lock reset?

My Pearl is no longer recognizing my keypad lock password for some reason.  I'm down to my last try before very bad things happen.  How do I reset it?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You don't. The password is a security feature of BB's. If you enter it wrong too many times in a row, your BB wipes clean. There is no backdoor password. There is no secret way around it. The only cure is to enter it correctly. It is likely that you think you are typing some sequence when in reality you are typing something else -- most often due to a key modifier (alt, caps, etc.). But, with only one try left, it will be pure luck for you to try something that will work. After your BB wipes clean, you will want to restore from your most recent backup:

  • Keypad lock/unlock

a friend unpgraded and gave me a curve 8520. in pocket the keys get pushed. i cannot find a keypad lock/unlock only a device lock which still allows the keys to be activated. i have not attached yet to my laptop but no doubt the original owner did and so will probably have updated the software. all help gratefully receved.
amazingly i have found a way to lock/unlock the keypad so please disregard this request.

Don't press the two keys at the same time, but instead in succession--one after the other.
What method do you propose to use to unlock the device?

  • N73 - automatic keypad lock, can I disable the sec...

I know that its possible to set my phone up so that the keypad automatically locks after a period of time. But I seem to only be able to do it by entering a security lock code (which I have). However each time I then want to unlock the keypad I have to enter the security code, which is time consuming. Therefore can anyone tell me if there's a way that I can disable the security lock code or set my phone up in such a way that they keypad locks after a period of time and then when I want to unlock it I just do it manually without having to enter a security code. Thanks

Click on the "Try it" button on the page, or use this direct link:
    http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/download/sendfile.php4?DownloadID=40
Once you have it on your PC, install it using Nokia PC Suite (or copy the .sis file over the USB cable directly, or send it over Bluetooth).
You could also download it directly to your phone using the web browser on the phone.
Check also that on the phone this setting is set to "All" (otherwise it won't install on the phone): menu | Tools | Application Manager | Options | Settings | Software installation

  • Nokia 6680 Keypad lock

I have to say having read all the other problems people are having I have not suffered yet, and am a heavy users.
However my only issue is the keypad lock. Am I just being daft or does the 6680 not have an auto keypad lock, only the manual one. I have made NUMEROUS pocket dialled calls, and it is reaching the stage of wanting rid of the phone.
Terrible let down for such a great handset.
I also use a 6230 which obviously does not have this problem.
Is there a software update rectifying this, or any plan to ?

It has a built-in automatic security lock, which requires a code to unlock it.
It doesn't have a built-in automatic, timed keypad lock that operates like the manual lock.
However, there are several (free) autolocking applications you could choose from. Here are two:
    AutoLock: http://www.my-symbian.com/7650/applications/applications.php?fldAuto=826&faq=2
    JJLKeyLock: http://www.my-symbian.com/7650/applications/applications.php?fldAuto=650&faq=2
You can download them to your PC and install on the phone using, e.g., PC Suite (http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite) and its "Application Installer".
TIP: In my Contacts I have as the first entry a contact named just "1" with no numbers at all. I discovered that if I forget to lock the keypad, the pocket calls seemed to always go to the first entry in Contacts, and this has saved one of my friends from a lot of unnecessary calls.Message Edited by petrib on 19-Nov-2005

Hopefully you haven't friend something inside it yet.
It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out. It really is more common than you think.
    1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
    2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
    3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
    4. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
*Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
*On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
*On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

  • N95 how to disable keypad lock after phone call

    hi!
i dont know is this the issue with lates firmware v20, but i noticed somehing that is quite annoying.
after i recieve phone call, and if phone is locked, i open slider, talk, finish call, and then phona auomatically locks.
is there a way to make it stay unlocked. because if after call i want to check something in phone i need to slide it close, and then open again, witch is annoying.
    thank you.
ps. same thing happens with bult in lock system, and with best keylocker application.
so i guess it is firmware feature (or maybe bug)

    Check in your phone settings
Keypad autolock period—Select whether the keypad is
locked when your device has been idle for a certain period
    of time.
Phone autolock period—To avoid unauthorized use, you
can set a time-out after which the device automatically
locks. A locked device cannot be used until the correct lock
code is entered. To turn off the autolock period, select
    None.
See ‘Glossary of PIN and lock codes’, p. 117.

  • Automatic Keypad Lock - Nokia E65

    Hello Everybody,
I have been looking for an automatic Keypad lock system in my Nokia E65 set but unfortunately I have not found it yet.
Can anybody provide me any advise how this works in my mobile?
    Thanks in advance

Unless you're after a slightly different feature, then the phone already comes with the facility you are looking for and it doesn't require a 3rd party standalone application.
There's more information on how to enable the built in keylock (with which you can also enter a code) on page 12 of the manual here :

    Hope this helps.

  • 6120- security keypad lock

i am unable to find the feature "security lock" on my 6120 whereby to unlock the keypad mneu then star needs to be selected followed by a 5 digit security code.
does this feature exist on the 6120 ?

Just as an addition to viper's reply, it's Menu>Settings>Phone Settings>General>Security>Phone and SIM card, since I believe you're asking for a lock on the handset and not just the keypad.
When in "Phone and SIM Card" settings, scroll down to "Lock Code" or you might want to time it as well, by setting the "Phone autolock period" or even the option of locking the phone ( "Lock if SIM card changed") if a different SIM card is used on your phone in case of theft.

  • Lock Code when turn on - 5800XM

When I had v40 I had to tenter the Lock Code when I turned the phone on (something I did rarely so no problem).
When I updated to v50 it doesn't ask for the Lock Code now. Any one know how I can set this to happen please?
    Mark

I tried to paste something from the extended user manual, but it looked weird on the screen, so I've tried to make it look sensible.  I hope the following does the job:
Select Menu > Settings and Phone > Phone mgmt. > Phone and SIM card. PIN code request — When active, the code is requested
each time the device is switched on.
