Keys malfunctioning on BB 8520

The keys on my phone is not working properly. When I press z,c,n, m and space it types nm.

It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out. It really is more common than you think.
1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 4 to 5 days* (see below)
3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
4. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
*Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
*On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor
*On the dashboard of your car on a sunny day

  • Function keys malfunctioning and iTunes keeps opening

My MacBook has Lion on it and has developed the following issues:
The volume up/down and screen brightness up/down keys seem to be having an identitiy crisis and do both things at the same time i.e. when I increase the volume the screen brightness goes down and volume goes up together etc
iTunes keeps randomly opening and starts playing my music when I haven't touched anything.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to correct this?
    Thanks

check system preferences, go to accounts, log in items, see if there is an iTunes stuff there, if there is higlight it and click the - button.
for the the sleep part you can go to system preferences, energy saver, make sure wake for network is un clicked.
turn off bluetooth when not in use, the persson who lives next to has either her BT headset or mouse that wakes mine, have our stuff apart by a thin wall 2ft

  • "a" key malfunction

Every time I hit the "a" key in finder or safari, the window moves off the screen and doesn't accept the "a".

My "a" had been somehow tagged as a shortcut key. A quick change in system preferences cleared it up.

  • Option key malfunction

    hi
I've a weird problem in my macbook pro. Whenever I start it, it gives startup boot drive option. After startup my keyboard prints symbols instead of characters. It seems as if my opion key is permanently pressed(ON). I somehow managed to use keyboard viewer to work normally(by enabling sticky keys option) but my hard keyboard is still printing symbols. This problem goes away on its own if i do not use my laptop for 2-3 days or more and comes back after using it for few hours. I am still not sure whether it is some s/w issue or h/w. Whatever it may be, can anyone suggest how can i disable symbols to come up with option button. Or how can i disable or program to ignore the option key's continuous press(active ON). Nothing improves if i disable "Option" as modifier key under keyboard section. External USB windows keyboard works fine on this laptop. For all your advice & suggestions, thanks in advance!

There is a bubble membrane under the keys, it has apparently got stuck down, the only solution is to have the keyboard replaced by Apple.
If your under warranty/AppleCare, then make a appointment, if not have them quote you a price.
There are online Mac repair that also can replace it for lesser cost if Apple quotes you too high of a price or can't fix it as they don't make the parts anymore.
It's preferred to have a touch clicky clack type keyboard that speed typists use, it's stands up better to wear and provides a audio feedback.

I'm using a old PC one with my MBP because I know laptop keyboards are basically crap, designed to wear out in a few years, should be used only in emergency situations actually.

  • Alt Key Malfunction

I am a student from NRW High School in Upstate NY and am currently enrolled in a digital photography class where the use of Photoshop is necessary. We are experiencing trouble with the use of our Alt key while using the clone stamp. When we hit the Alt key and then attempt to drag the copied piece over to the new setting, we often get a pop-up message saying that the use of such key is unavailable. We then restart our computers and try again. It may work - it may not. We are wondering if there is a solution to this problem or if we should try a new method. We are using Photoshop CC 2014 (newest model)
    Thanks!

due to i don't have s10-3t, i suggest you to check the manuals first. it should have some informations about cleaning the keyboard.

  • Qosmio X770 - key malfunction - Mute instead of keyboard light

    Hello everyone
My Qosmio X770-13C makes me crazy, let me explain:
When I want to use the keyboard light that makes sound muted and I do not understand why.
The FN key works only when I reactive flash cards.
All my drivers and BIOS are up to date. What to do?
Somehow I think that latest Windows update caused it.
Thank you in advance for your answers

  • [SOLVED] Volume key malfunction

Hello, all. I have recently ordered a ThinkPad, and I love it. Recently my volume keys (only up/down, not mute) decided not to work. I have been unable to identity any changes in my setup that would account for such behavior. I finally restored the main functionality of my media buttons by mapping those keys to the command 'amixer set Master 5%+-' with ccsm. While adjusting the volume, however, this workaround doesn't let me know what the actual volume is. I used to have a little black OSD appear to let me know how far my volume was, where as now I am shooting in the dark. Does anybody happen to know how I can invoke the media controller directly, or perhaps why my keys have stopped working? Of course I'll be happy to supply any docs/info requested.
Thank you for taking the time!

Amazing! I was able to fix my problem thanks to the pointer.
After reading this thread [https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1175368], I was able to downgrade the following packages and regain the use of my function keys and dialog boxes:
    xf86-input-evdev (2.7.3-2 -> 2.7.3-1)
    xf86-video-intel (2.20.9-2 -> 2.20.9-1)
    xorg-server-common (1.13.0-2 -> 1.12.4-1)
    xorg-server (1.13.0-2 -> 1.12.4-1)
Thanks for the help everybody. Wait a few days before going with the latest xorg-server.

  • E71 left soft key malfunction: key reacts twice to...

    Hello to all out there,
My E71 (which I love, btw) has taken on the annoying habit of reacting twice to one press on the left soft key (where 'menu' would be by default). For example: when I reply to a text message and want to insert a smiley, I use that key but it immediately acts like I pressed it twice and thus it sends off my unfinished message. Highly annoying.
Could this be a software problem? I'm updated to the latest firmware version, 400.21.013 (22 october 2009). Or could it be dirt or moisture inside the phone?
If you have any insights, I'd love to hear them.
    Cheers and thanks in advance,

Have you guys ever used water or other liquid to clean the keyboard? Or, if any water ever leaked into the buttom of the Menu key, or the phone keybaord was intensely used with too much dust and sweat on it? If so, this kind of problem could happen.
Absolute alcohol could help clean the keybaord if used properly.

  • Odd caps key malfunction

All of a sudden the left hand 'caps' key on my MacBook refuses to convert the top qwerty line of my keyboard in to caps, apart from the last letter P! It is fine on the others two lines. The right hand one works fine as does the caps lock. So using the left key, which is the most convenient, I get:
    qwertyuioP
Do you think this is a problem with my laptop or have I pressed a wrong key somewhere?

Do check your preferences. Can you press shift and then the keys?

  • Satellite L360D - Some keyboard keys malfunctions

Toshiba laptop Satellite L360D. Spacebar does not function & right hand shift tab
    Any views?

    Hi
    Yes, Ive got an idea
In my opinion the internal keyboard needs to be replaced.
There is no other solution for that since single buttons are not replaceable.
In the meantime you can use an external USB keyboard. It should work properly and could be a good option until the internal keyboard has been replaced.

  • Laptop keys malfunctioning

I recently (late Jan) received my new g6z-2200 and I'm having a bit of a reoccurring problem...
On numerous ocassions (several times a day) while I'm tying a document, I will want to type in italics, bold, or underline and I will hold ctrl and either i, b, or u.  The result is that my cursor will jump up several lines, or portions of text will become highlighted and then by deleted (as a result of my typing), or sometimes both, or there will be other similar tricks performed by my computer.
What can I do to get this to stop...as I'm sure you can imagine this is pretty annoying.
    Thanks

  • Not responding before press and hold any key

I have to press and hold any key on my blackberry 8520 before it response. This started after downloading some app from the appworld. If I leave the phone for one minute idle and gets a call, I have to press and hold the send key for about 30 seconds before I can pick the call. I hv perfomed the security wipe for more than 3 times and still the problem exist. Need some help pls

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It sounds like those apps may have corrupted the OS, and therefore an OS reload may be required. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • Previous(Back) and (fast)forward keys not working in iTunes

    Hello,
A short while ago, I found out that my function keys (back- and forward buttons specifically) have stopt working in iTunes. The exact moment they started to malfunction in unknown to me, but in my current configuration they always did what they had to do up until a couple of weeks ago.
    My specs:
    Mac Mini late 2012
    16 Gb RAM
    256Gb SSD + 500Gb HDD
    Apple Wireless Keyboard
    Apple Magic Trackpad
    OSX Mavericks 10.9.1
    iTunes 11.1.4 (64bit)
I can't recall altering system settings with which these controls could stop working. Note: the play/pauze button works great!
Furthermore: In VLC, all controls work fine, including the back and forward buttons.
Could this be due to an update of iTunes? Also, have more people encountered this problem? If so: What is the sollution, 'cause this is annoying the crap out of me..
    Thanks in advance,
    T.

After searching one discussion after another I found the reason the keys malfunction in iTunes: AirServer. While this program is running, the FF and Prev keys (F7 & F9) won't work in iTunes. When the app is closed, they immediately start working again. Seems to be a bug in AirServer's coding. Hope an update will undo this problem.
    Regards, Tim

  • 'eight' and 'nine' keys not responding

This wouldn't be such a big issue if all my passwords didn't contain numbers. I can't even update my adobe software for my organic chemistry homework because of the admin lock I have on my macbook requiring a password!
I bought this macbook in 200nine. It is the 13 inch white macbook with snowleopard.
My keyboard is clean and I tried restarting the laptop with no success.
    Help!?

Were there any spills on your keyboard recently? If you need access to something requiring your password, plug or pair an external keyboard, or just copy and paste the number that you need into the prompt.
Even if you've been careful, sounds like a potential hardware issue if it's only those 2 keys malfunctioning.
