Keys Sticking

My keys are getting stuck.  When I touch an app icon or try to type an email or text.  Also my home screen is off center.
Anyone got any ideas?

A) Thank you for the tip.  I suspect you are correct.  I probably jumped-the-gun ordereing a new keyboard before attempting to clean my existing keyboard.  My computer seems to be working better this afternoon.  All signs point to the issue being as you suspected.
B) I believe I have a 14.1'' widescreen.
This is where I got the #:

What is the difference between ALPS, Chicony, and NMB?  I wonder which kind came with my computer?
I have always had problems with the "J" key. It has worked good-enough that it wasn't worth doing anything about it.  But since I have accidently ordered a new keyboard I am considering keeping it if it is an upgrade.

HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC WITH Windows 7  one month old.
Control key sticks, have to reboot to clear.  any solutions?

Got my Pavilion g6 December 23, 2011; the key became active from the first day with out any action from me:  During those times, when I press the single letter “e,” it centers the cursor in a field; “p,” it wants to print, etc.  (Ctrl + various letters are keyboard shortcuts.)  Eventually, it stops; later, starts again.  It's frustrating.

  • [URGENT] Modifier Keys "Sticking"

Notes:*This has been happening ever since I purchased the PC*Seems to be the windows key(s), shift, alt, and ctrl stuck the majority of the time, rarely only one of them.*Is reproduceably: not Technically, can't find anything that causes it, seems to happen randomly Hello, Nick here. Occasionally, and un-predictably, one of the following keys will "stick": CTRL, SHIFT, ALT, RIGHT WINDOWS KEY, LEFT WINDOWS KEY. When I refer to the term "Stick" it is not physically my keyboard, as I have tried not only the built in keyboard, but over 4 external keyboards( all different brands ), It seems to be in the software, and I do not have sticky keys on. Some of the fixes I have tried include, but are not limted to: Reinstalling keyboard drivers, adjusting repeat delay, restarting computer, starting windows in "Safe Mode", and even gone as far as COMPLETELY REINSTALLING WINDOWS... This problem has become so prevelant that my pc can not be on for more than 10 minutes without it occuring. I have not found a fix for this, however I have found a few sollutions for when it occurs, such as double-tapping either the CTRL, SHIFT, ALT, or WINDOWS KEY. This fixes the problem but only temporarily and it reoccurs only minutes later. However whenever the RIGHT WINDOWS KEY sticks it disallows typing in some programs, and opens shortcuts, and is unsolveable because I cannot double-tap a non-existend key... This has become quite irritating and extremely problematic as I play a wide range of games, and this prevents that by sticking keys ingame, and ALT+Tabbing me out frequently. If anyone at all could assist me on this problem it would be greatly appreciated, if you need anymore info about this feel free to ask. SPECS:RAM: 4.00GBCPU-Integrated Graphics: Intel(R) Celeron(R) N2830 @ 2.16GHz( overclocks to 2.32GHz )

Hi  , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP 15 Notebook and issue with the keyboard not working correctly. You can resolve this issue by checking the keyboard language. Here is a link to uninstall the keyboard. Restart the computer after uninstalling, it should reinstall automatically. This has helped others. Here is a link to keyboard troubleshooting. I hope something here helps you out. Thanks.

  • Why is my left shift key sticking?

I used my i7 MBP last night without incident. I opened it this morning to have the left shift key start sticking. Took out my can of air, blew it. It still sticks if you touch it in the center bottom of the key. When it "unsticks" it makes a click sound. No other key sticks.
And, no, there was no soda/coffee/tea spills.
    John

Surely it is still under warranty for repair.
I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider  (AASP) for evaluation, or call your nearest Apple Contact Center. Visit the Genius Bar at the Apple Retail Store,  make a reservation.

  • Shift key "sticks"

After updating to 1.1.1, I have noticed that when I log into my schools network via WiFi, that the shift key "sticks". It only happens in Safari, not in texts, emails, or Notes, and only when I'm entering a username or password of any sort. I know that its not the Caps Lock, as I have this feature turned off. I was just wondering if others were having the same problem, or if it was just me, and if there were any solutions.

I haven't noticed that my shift key sticks, but I have noticed some qurkie things since the new update. Like the clock for example... I've had more clock queer-trons the last couple days since the update than I did before the update (all of a week). All the sudden show wrong times (off by like hours), changing from 24 hour clock to 12 hour clock on it's own, ect. ect...
And NO I didn't "hack" my phone...wouldn't know even where to start with that, and no I haven't downloaded any 'third party software'. I don't care for it. YES I have low post count, which is only because I joined after recently getting my iPhone and I only post to ask questions or give answers that I've found out or have heard that works. I didn't call tech support because I've got other things in my life to do than sit on the phone for 2 hours trying to fix something that wasn't broken a couple days ago. I try to find simalar problems on line and see if I can get the answer first (which takes FAR less time) before driving an hour across town to the apple store or staying on the phone half the day with tech support.
I say all this because I see folks getting 'nasty posted' for asking questions which seem to be in the same boat as I am. This message board is to try and HELP folks in a quicker time than the other two options I said above. So please, let's all play nice and remember what we were told as kids...if we don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all

  • My Space key sticks...

My Space key sticks down how can i fix it? It will still work normal but gets stuck down. Is this a user repairable item?
    Thanks. Dan

This is repairable. Although I am not sure you would want to repair it. Appl ehas made that keyboard like the way it is so it is more difficult for thge keys to pop out on accident. My suggestion to you so the warrenty isn't void when you pop the keys out to clean them is just to bring it in an apple store. They will fix it quickly for you!

  • T440s Windows product key sticker

Hi, I plan on reinstalling Windows 8. Does anyone know where the Windows product key sticker is located on the T440s? I've looked under the battery compartment but it's not there. Any help would be appreciated.

It's built into the BIOS, so Windows Setup will pick it up automatically.

Glad to hear you had the forethought to write down the registration key.  Personally I keep a separate listing of all my keys for my various computers as it can come in handy at times.
Yes, you can use the key to tell you which version of Windows 7 you have,  Check out my link below to the free PIDX utility. Most likely you had Windows 7 Home Premium x64 which was the usual version installed on your model.

  • Satellite C50-A-1DV Keys sticking

Completely new to this and not good with computers or the language associated with them so please bear that in mind! I have had this problem for a while now and it's driving me mad!
When I type on my keyboard, there are so many typos as 1 in 3 letters I type don't seem to respond when I am 100% pressing the buttons. It results in lots of missing letters which makes assignment writing for me almost impossible!
Does anyone else have this problem? Or better still, can they suggest a way of fixing it?
    TIA

Check whether the usage of external keyboard would cause the same sticking key issue…
In case the external USB keyboard would work properly, the internal keyboard fault causes the issue and therefore the internal keyboard should be replaced to fix the issue…
If the unit is new, the standard warranty should be valid and I guess it should cover the repair costs.

  • Some of my keys stick and give multiple strikes.

When typing some the keys seem to stick. This is a new phone (2 weeks) and it's frustrating when I'm writing and I get several m's and s's in my message. Any solutions?

I read thru some earlier posts and found a solution that has helped me. it seems to be working better. I will repost if still having problems.

  • Key Board Keys Sticking

My key board just started sticking making it difficult to type.  Any reason or solution for this?

That is usually because of inadvertent spillage. (coffee, coca-cola and the like).
    Solution: replace the keyboard.

  • Windows 8.1 keys stick after 5 seconds of being held

    Hi,
So here's an example of my problem:
When using applications such as PhotoShop, it's necessary to hold down a key such as CTRL or SHIFT in order to work efficiently. The problem is, holding down a key for any longer than 5 seconds causes it to "stick", as if it's being continuously
held. This can be a real pain when trying to work, as PhotoShop then thinks I'm still holding the SHIFT key (for example), and will remain in select mode. I will have to tap SHIFT again in order to work as normal.
I'm using PhotoShop in this example, but the issue isn't specific to PhotoShop - in fact it seems to be across all of Windows 8.1, even when simply selecting folders in windows explorer; hold SHIFT down for too long and Windows will remain in select mode.
Is there any way to turn this feature off? It's driving me crazy and slowing me down!
    Many thanks,
    Alex

Thanks for your reply, but that's still not solved my issue - all settings are off as suggested.
Going to look into if maybe it's a keyboard issue, i'll let you know my findings.
    Cheers

  • Random keys stick

    Hello,
I bought my first Mac last weekend. MacBook Air 13 inch version. I love it but.....
My MBA gets hung up with what I think is a stuck key. When I leave it on and walk away, when I come back I find it with the login screen up and the password field filled with * and the computer making the ding ding ding ding noise. Same noise as hitting an invalid key or reaching the limit on an impute field. When I delete the stars, they come back faster than I can type my password so the only way to stop this is to hold down the power button until it reboots. I have had this happen once after an autosave message pops up in finical cut express.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Well to start, I would closely examine the keyboard, make sure nothing is stuck inside/near each key. Then, I would give each key a firm press, to see if you feel anything unusual. Then I would type down, a bit forcefully, to see if you can unstick anything that may be sticking and if each key sounds as it should when clicked.
Also, if it is just a stuck key, try pressing and holding the delete key. It should backspace and delete the characters. This will only work if one key is stuck. If two were, the delete key would not delete the characters.

  • MBP Caps Lock key sticks out more than the others!

Just wondered if this is normal! The caps lock seems to stick out of the keyboard more than the others! Can anyone help?

I just received my new MacBook Pro 17" this afternoon. My tab, caps lock, and shift keys are all raised on the left hand side. If you look at the keys from the left hand side of the keyboard you can see how they are raised up higher than the tilde and fn key. Also, the control keys kind of sticks when it is pressed down all the way. I like the machine, but I've very disappointed in the keyboard. It doesn't seem as nice as my PowerBook keyboard. I have them here side by side. The PowerBook keyboard is perfect and has a better feel when typing. I hope I get used to this new one.
