Keys stuck in flash

Hello fellow archers, I have this little problem with flash (games); basically sometimes keys get stuck and repeat forever, forcing me to restart. I've seen in ubuntu forum one post stating my same problem; there was no solution there, just a hint to kill a process (npviewer) instead of rebooting (and how can i do that when a key is stuck?).
Is it just me or is this a known problem?
I heard something about X loosing the "key up" signal, but beside this I have no clue...
any help?

I sometimes have this problem too, but I think that's my crappy keyboard... It is an USB one. When that happens, I use to restart only the X Server and replug the connector in the back of the computer. Maybe it's just a bad connection, but it is so seldom that I can't really make a relation with anything.

    Hey guys,
My mac mini g4 with Apple Pro keyboard has it's shift key stuck on and will not disable, this happened after I cleaned the keys with a "magic eraser" and is probably water damage, but when it is plugged into a PC the shift key is off and can be toggled as should be. Any help will be appericiated and if I can fix this it will save the faithful keyboard. Thanks in advance!

Thank you chorleyman! I just need a cheap platform for Logic to run, I'm not an advanced user, just to play for my soul. I'm usually using Windows based platforms, that's why I was confused about this particular model.
So if it looks good I think I will order this hardware next week.
If anyone have any more thoughts about the topic, please feel free to comment here! Thank you!

Are you in possession of the IBM Hardware Maintenance Diskette?
This is from the Hardware Maintenance manual.
Restoring the serial number of the system unit
When the computer was manufactured, the EEPROM on the system board was
loaded with the serial numbers of the system and all major components. These
numbers need to remain the same throughout the life of the computer.
If you replace the system board, you must restore the serial number of the system
    unit to its original value.
Before replacing the system board, save the original serial number by doing the
    following:
    1. Install the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 1. Set System Identification.
    3. Select 2. Read S/N data from EEPROM.
The serial number of each device in your computer is displayed; the serial number
of the system unit is listed as follows:
    v 20: Serial number
    Write down that number.
Note: The serial number of the system unit is also written on the label attached to
    the bottom of the computer.
After you have replaced the system board, restore the serial number by doing the
    following:
    1. Install the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 1. Set System Identification.
    3. Select 1. Add S/N data from EEPROM.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
If the MTM and Product ID numbers differ from each other on the rear label, use
what is shown for the Product ID field. See example below:
    MTM on rear label:
    TTTT-CTO S/N SSSSSSS
    Product ID on rear label:
TTTT-MMM (Use this number when setting Serial Number)
In the example, the Serial Number to be input is ’1STTTTMMMSSSSSSS’.
    Retaining the UUID
The Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) is a 128-bit number uniquely assigned to
your computer at production and stored in the EEPROM of your system board.
The algorithm that generates the number is designed to provide unique IDs until
the year A.D. 3400. No two computers in the world have the same number.
When you replace the system board, you must set the UUID on the new system
    board as follows:
    1. Install the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 4. Assign UUID.
A new UUID is created and written. If a valid UUID already exists, it is not
    overwritten.
Reading or writing the ECA information
Information on Engineering Change Announcements (ECA) are stored in the
EEPROM of the system board. The electronic storage of this information simplifies
the procedure to check if the ECA has been previously applied to a machine. The
machine does not need to be disassembled to check for the ECA application.
To check what ECAs have been previously applied to the machine, use the ECA
Information Read/Write function on the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware
Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or later.
    1. Insert the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 6. Set ECA Information.
    3. To read ECA information, select 2. Read ECA/rework number from EEPROM
    and follow the instruction.
    4. To read box build date, select 5. Read box build date from EEPROM, and
follow the instruction on the screen.
After an ECA has been applied to the machine, the EEPROM must be updated to
reflect the ECA’s application. Use the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance
Diskette Version 1.76 or later to update the EEPROM.
Note: Only the ECA number is stored in the EEPROM. The machine type of the
ECA is assumed be the same as the machine type of the machine that had the ECA
    applied to it.
    1. Insert the LENOVO ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.76 or
    later, and restart the computer.
    2. From the main menu, select 6. Set ECA Information.
    3. To write ECA information, select 1. Write ECA/rework number from EEPROM,
    and follow the instruction.
    4. To write box build date, select 4. Write box build date from EEPROM, and
follow the instruction on the screen.
If the system board is being replaced, try to read the ECA information from the old
system board and transfer the information to the new system. If the system board
is inoperable, this will not be possible.

  • ThinkPad T540p Control key stuck

The control key of my ThinkPad T540p often got stuck. It is not physically stuck, but the computer often thinks it is pressed down. This happens from time to time, which is very annoying. When it happens, if I press Ctrl again, then everything is back to OK again.
I noticed that this problem seems to be pretty common in Lenovo computers. If you google search "Lenovo Control key stuck", you can find lots of similar reports!
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve it? Thanks!

    Hi Nauhiuc,

  • New Yoga 15 TAB key stuck

When my yoga 15 starts up it will have the tab key stuck and it will cycle through all the options on the login screen. It happends randomly on websites when I'm trying to login. I thought the sticky keys were enabled, but they are not. The only way to get the thing to stop is to randomly hit keys and it will just stop. I've done all the updates, but this ruins any experience I've had with thinkpads. My yoga 12 before this had a ghosting problem.
I just want to get this out there because someone else my have this problem too.

  • IPod 4th generation stuck on flashing apple logo

So i tried to update my software and it got stuck on a flashing apple screen. I'm trying to reset through iTunes, but my iPod isn't recognized in iTunes when I put it in DFU mode. Still stuck on flashing apple screen. What should I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Alt key stuck when using mouse in flash CS5.5 on os x lion. sucks. please help.

    Hi there,
since I've updated to lion flash cs5.5 is utterly unusable. The alt key is always stuck in this app when I use the mouse. So if I select something then try to move it, it copies it (as if I was holding down alt key). It basically means I can't use flash for anything..
Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?
I saw similar forum posts for photoshop cs5 and snow leopard, and even tried the utility provided on those forums. Didn't work.
I removed my wacom tablet driver,
    I reinstalled flash,
I shut down EVERYTHING except flash.  Nothing works - alt key is always active in flash.
Is this some kind of bad joke from Adobe? Is there really no fix for this? I can't believe it - honestly...
Additional note - in the key remapping page - it reckognizes the alt key normally, and all other key combinations - it is only when using the mouse that the alt key is stuck.

    Hello,
I was having the same exact problems with Flash Professional after upgrading my OS X to Lion.  (Alt/Option key seems like it's stuck / Duplicating objects on stage just by clicking and moving the object.)  My main problem was not being able to curve a straight line with the Arrow tool.  Instead it would create a corner point as if the Alt/Option key was being held.
I stumbled upon this thread before finding my solution so I thought I'd share what worked for me.
Here is the thread I found with the solution that worked:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5222999
Basically I had a program called AirDisplay installed.  AirDisplay allows me to use my iPad as a second monitor for my Mac.  So if you have this program installed, or one similar to AirDisplay, uninstalling this program may get your Flash Professional to work correctly again.  It certainly did for me to my amazement.
Hope this works for you or anyone else who is experiencing this weird and frustrating problem!

  • Key Stuck - *EVEN WHEN NO KEYBOARD CONNECTED*

    Hello
The up cursor on the keyboard is stuck on.
But it stays stuck even when no keyboard is connected at all.
i.e. if you use the mouse to open a menu, the options will highlight from the bottom up.
If you type a document the cursor will keep flying back to the top.
It's impossible to enter any passwords as the invisible keystrokes of the up cursor seem to make it invalid.
It's exactly if something was resting on the keyboard.
I"ve tried different keyboards, including a BlueTooth one, so that rules out the connections.
And As I say it persists even when the keyboard and mouse are entirely disconnected.
It is still on when I startup from a bootable CD.
It feels as if some sort of hardware problem has occurred...
I've tried resetting the PRAM but as the keyboard doesn't function correctly, I can't use the startup shortcut.
I've unplugged mains power and removed the battery and pressed the PMU reset button, but to no avail.
I've started up from an OSX Leopard disk, but the problem persists.
This is driving me crazy, any ideas?

yes, I've tried with 2 different mice, and with no mouse connected.
Even restarted from an install CD with no keyboard or mouse connected at all, cursor is still jumping upwards, and the repeating chime that you get when the keyboard buffer is full (like when you acidentally rest something on a key) is constantly sounding.
It feels to me as if there is some false signal getting to the keyboard buffer that the computer is interpreting as a constant up arrow key press.
Any ideas? Is there a part of the internals of the computer that I should check hasn't come loose in some way, triggering this false key input?
The problem happened after I moved the computer from one part of the office to another.

  • Control Key stuck ON

Dear HP, My wife and I both have had problems on our laptops where the keyboard gets stuck in a mode where it does wierd stuff.
I believe it has to do with resting our wrists on our laptops (our bad).  And some how with our palms touching the keypad plus some key, we enter this mode.
Today, while replying to an email,  I did it and realized that the Control Key was "stuck on".  I press A and it would select all the text in the email. etc.
I tried updating the latest keypad driver and that created a whole differentset of problems.  (I am not happy with the keypad driver sw!!!)
I read on the Microsoft forum that pressing both Ctrl keys would clear it. So next time it happens I will try it.
This is something that HP needs to post about defining the key stroke to get into this problem andthe key stroke to get out of it.
For us, it requires a reboot to clear this special model.
    Thanks for listening,
    Hank

    Hello bruezzy,
You’re having a problem that the control key is sticking.
Go into device manager and uninstall the keyboard and restart the computer.
This will uninstall and reinstall the driver that controls the keyboard.
Here is a link that will show you how to get to and use device manager.
    Also reset BIOS defaults.
This is what lets the software on the computer talk to the hardware.
    Turn off the computer
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
    Press F9 to load defaults
Press F10 to save and exit
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.
If everything was recently working correctly, you might try a system restore.
This will take the computer back to a time that everything was working correctly without affecting any of your files.
Here is link to a restore.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • Control Key Stuck At Times

A couple times a day my computer will act like the control key has been pushed and will open the shortcut that is with the letter I pushed. Sometimes it will cause the page to zoom in and out from scrolling the mouse. I had a L505 and it did this I replaced keyboard they replaced the system board and it still did it. I sold that computer and got a new L655-S5158 it is doing the same thing. This is really annoying because I never know when it is going to do it. Sometimes when I am typing a email or filling out an online forum it will reload the page and I will lose all my work. I thought it might be firefox so I switched back to Internet Explorer still does it. Does anyone know what is causing this.

    Hello,
I can reproduce this bug (make Windows think the CTRL key is stuck down) at will, and I can unstick it too, on my Satellite L775.
To make the bug appear, I just hold down the CTRL key while using pinch-zoom.
To unstick the key, I just press both control keys simultaneously.  This "unstick" method has always worked, except ONE time it did not and I had to reboot to unstick the CTRL key.
Obviously, the fact that the touch pad itself has a bug that frequently ignores the fact that I have it turned OFF and zooms or scrolls without warning when I get near it exacerbates this CTRL bug, but, anyway, I hope that being able to reproduce the bug reliably will help get it fixed.

  • Control key stuck

    I recently purchased an X131E.
It's great but after an hour or so of being turned on it acts as if the control key is pressed, and makes it hard work using Office, IE etc...
A re-boot resolves it, but it just happens again soon after. I'm sure the key is not stuck, what could be causing this? How can I resolve it?
It's not the sticky keys as I have disabled that after trawling other forums
    Any help appreciated.
Would this be covered under the warranty?

    Hello Maido,
This could be a driver issue, try downloading the Update Retriever 5.00 tool, it will let you know if you have any driver updates, Its located half way down the site.         b. Type a user name and password for the share drive used as the network share repository in the
            user name and password fields.
    3. In the Get new updates panel, click Add.
    4. In the Add new systems window, set the triplet information for a system by doing the following:
        a. Type the applicable machine type. You can find the machine type on the bottom of a notebook
computer or on the rear of a desktop computer.

  • IMac wakes from sleep with a key stuck

I routinely wake up my computers from sleep by pressing a modifier key like shift, command, etc; these keys don't generally cause actions in whatever software is running so they make good "wakeup" buttons.
I recently got a new 20" aluminum iMac, which I love, but it seems that once in a while a key gets stuck. The shortcut menu appears when I try to click on something, or text will get selected, or everything acts like I'm right-clicking. If I do a quick run through all the modifier keys, the problem goes away until the next time I wake the machine. So since getting the new iMac, my routine was changed to pressing a modifier key, waiting till the machine wakes up, then pressing all of the modifier keys.
I discovered today that what's happening is, when I do my regular wake-up thing, whatever key I pressed while the machine was sleeping gets stuck until the next time it's pressed. It's like the key press message is getting to the machine, but the release is ignored while the computer is in the process of waking up. It thinks I'm still holding that particular key down. So now what I do is press one key, then press it again when the computer's awake.
The problem only occurs when the machine goes to sleep due to inactivity. I can't reproduce it by invoking sleep from the Apple menu or the keyboard shortcut.
This never happens on my Core Duo iMac or on my MacBook Pro. It does, however, happen every time on this machine whether I use the included aluminum keyboard or the old white keyboard.
I just got the idea of holding down the the shift, control, or whatever key, until the machine has fully recovered from sleep. I will post further if anything interesting happens when I try it.
I'd like to get things back to the way they were before though (except I want the new iMac to stay of course!). Any ideas?

If I wake the computer by pressing, for example, control; then wait for the system to recover before releasing it, everything's fine.
It looks like the computer is just not aware of USB activity during the waking process.
Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me?
I did install the EFI updates last week too. I was kind of excited to see them because I figured they'd noticed the problem and fixed it, but it had no effect.
Re the TIL article above, this appears to pertain only to portables. Is it also something that works on iMacs?

Hey there.. using a Macbook Pro 2.4 ghz 4 gb running latest OS 10.8.5
I went to use my computer tonight and found that the caps lock is stuck.
    - I didn't spill anything on it

    - I've done a total clean install of the OS and there is still the exact same problem
    - I've gone into the keyboard settings in the system folder and tried turning the shift key off.. no solution..
    - I've contacted my Haitain neighbor ( she is a voodoo priestess ) she put a spell on it to fix it... no luck
It will only start in safe boot mode....
I cannot reset the permiter ram... even using an external keyboard
I cannot run the ADT ( apple diagnostics test ) by restarting it and holding down the D key.
There is one other problem... that is it periodically runs slowly as well.. like its in space ( when you go to click on an folder on the dock.. the folder opens super slow )
