Keyspan Serial to USB

The Keyspan Serial to USB adapter does not work with Intel. Perhaps a new driver will fix it.

That's right.
Keyspan have posted a beta version of their Intel drivers at http://keyspan.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/keyspan.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?pfaqid=528 which should work. It might be worth waiting for the official release though.

  • Setting up/syncing serial on usb palm...

    Hi all-
I've got a Palm IIIc that I'd like to sync with my new Mini. Here's what I've got:
Palm IIIc, Serial Cradle, [Belkin Serial to USB adapter], just bought/tried a Keyspan Serial to USB adapter, Palm Desktop 4.2.1a, iSync 2.2 (part of Mini pre-installed software).
The Belkin I doubt will work because I couldn't get the drivers to load in OS X, so I got the Keyspan (has OS X driver & is listed on the Palm website as the only serial to USB connector for the IIIc). I believe I followed the iSync directions correctly (artnum 302120 from the KB)
I have not tried to sync to the Palm Desktop only (will try in a few minutes). The gist is everything seems to be set correctly, but the handlheld doesn't connect with the software... Any thoughts or suggestions??

This issue comes up periodically, and the best place
to get help with it is from Keyspan. They have a
couple of articles available explaining how to get
this to work. In my limited experience, only the
Keyspan and now-defunct PalmConnect devices ever
worked in configurations such as yours. Even Palm
Support now directs users to Keyspan for both the
    hardware and for help.
The long term answer is, honestly, to ditch your
serial Palm device in favor of a Palm OS 4 or 5
handheld or smartphone, and a copy of the Missing
Sync for Palm OS. While it may be a significant
investment, you'll wonder after doing this why you
    waited so long…
FWIW, I went to the Keyspan website and they have beta version drivers for Tiger and their serial/usb adapter. This has helped in that now when I press the Hotsync (or sync in iSync) the computer actually sees the PDA. However the software is not synching. All settings are correct as best I can (when I set for Palm Desktop or when I set for iSync).
I'm not willing to get rid of a device that works perfectly well and that syncs easily with my PC at work. I'd rather Palm make updates to keep their products working...

  • XP/Bootcamp 3.1:  Slow Keyspan USA-19HS USB/Serial -- new Macbook Pro 17"

I have a new Macbook Pro 17" running Windows XP on Boot Camp 3.1. I am using a Keyspan USA-19HS USB/Serial adapter with its latest driver (from Tripplite that now owns Keyspan). The XP was originally an SP2 install but was updated with all Microsoft updates before installing the Keyspan.
I previously used this same Keyspan with Windows XP/Boot Camp 2.x, and with this same Keyspan driver, on an older Macbook, and it ran just fine for years.
On my new Macbook Pro, it runs without complaints or failures, but it runs at about 1/4 the serial throughput that it should have. I have compared the COM port settings for the Keyspan with those on the older Macbook and they are identical. Using 19200 baud. Device Manager shows no problem indications.
    Any suggestions?

I have the same computer and the same issue in Bootcamp. I haven't noticed any correlation with a context menu however. Hoping for an updated driver soon to fix this...

  • Mountain Lion compatible Serial-to-USB adaptor recommendation

    Thank you in advance,

Here is a link to a USB to DB9 solution.
I have used that one and it works.
Here is a similar model that I still use and it works as well:
    http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/model.cfm?txtSeriesID=782&txtModelID=3915
That one has two RS-422 ports.
Their drivers for Mountain Lion work perfectly, as do the earlier ones for PPC Macs. I have used it with every OS X version since Jaguar.
It does install a kernel extension but as far as I have been able to tell, it is well-behaved and I have experienced no conflicts. The .kext is not active unless the adapter is actually connected.
Follow the driver installation instructions carefully - the adapter must be disconnected while installing the driver or the installer package will crash. The package installer dialog tells you this.
Here is a summary from my notes:
Disconnect the Keyspan adapter from your Mac. If you do not disconnect the adapter, the installer package will crash.
Open the downloaded zipfile to expand the keyspanUSAdrvr installer package.
Read the "Important Information", authenticate when necessary, and complete the installation. The Keyspan driver is a kernel extension necessary for the Keyspan adapter to work.
Connect the Keyspan adapter after the installer completes.
An alert may appear indicating that "new network interfaces were detected" and need to be configured. You may ignore this alert, and you may delete the three Keyspan network interfaces that will now appear in System Preferences > Network. OS X seems to think these are dialup modem drivers. They are not used for printing. The alert will not reappear.
A logout / login or reboot should be optional to ensure the driver is loaded. If in doubt, reboot.
With the adapter connected and its driver correctly installed, the kernel extension will now appear in System Information as KeyspanUSAdriver.
In Applications, locate and open Keyspan Serial Assistant. When the adapter has been connected its serial port names will appear in this window. Clicking the reveal triangle will show their names.
KeySerial1 is an alias to the first port on the first Keyspan adapter connected to your Mac. The names USA28XxxxxP1.1 and USA28XxxxxP2.2 will change if the adapter is connected to a different USB port. Connect your serial device to Port 1 on the adapter, and use KeySerial1 for the serial port name. Otherwise it will be necessary to change the name of your serial port every time you change which USB port the Keyspan is using.
Leave Keyspan Serial Assistant in your Applications folder since you may need it to refer to these names in the future.
To uninstall the Keyspan driver software, open Keyspan Serial Assistant, select "Uninstall USB Serial Extension" from the Settings menu, and follow the instructions. Administrator authentication is required to uninstall the driver. The extension will then be eradicated from your system. The only remaining files are the Keyspan Serial Assistant application, the installer package, and the downloaded zipfile. To completely delete everything drag all these files to the Trash.
Keyspan had previously labeled their OS X 10.8 driver a "beta" version, which worked fine. They since dropped the "beta" label. Hopefully this indicates they are interested in continued support. In any event I doubt any updates would be required for future OS X versions any time soon, since it is already a 64 bit driver.

  • MAX can't find serial to USB converter COM3

    Hello friends,
I am using serial to USB converter for communicating the instruments.
I install drivers successfully and device manager shows COM3.
But when I go MAX 5.5 , I cannot see the COM3 port in  device and interface.
Please tell me solution of this.

    Dennis,
You are totally right, it was a mistake from me. We do not see com connections under data acquisition devices.
Haris115, can you tell which drivers and which versions did you install? You can see it on MAX. And which OS are you using?
I just want to be sure there is the correct compatibility.
    Thank you

  • Palm V serial to USB

I have a Palm V, XP Pro, Office outlook 2003.  I am trying to hook up my old cradle which is a serial port to my new computer which has USB ports.  I've read quite a lot of forums regarding this topic however, being technologically inept I'm finding them a little confusing.  Can someone help me simplify the process and advise how/what i need to do inorder to get my Palm V working with my laptop (step by step instructions)?  I really appreciate your help!
    Post relates to: Palm V

First, check your HotSync Manager software to see if it has the "Local USB" setting as an option.  If not, download a newer version of Palm Desktop (version 4.1.4E should work) and set it for Local USB.
Second, you will need to purchase a small Serial to USB adapter, or a similar cable from a computer store or online.
If the adapter has a driver disc, be sure to run it prior to connecting your cradle.  Plug the cradle into the adapter and then into your Computer.
Perform a Hotsync and it should work.

  • Serial to USB connection- HP Laserjet 4MP not recognised

I am trying to connect an HP Laserjet 4MP to my Intel iMac running OSX 10.5.8. sure its old, but it is solid and reliable. Slow does not concern me.
The printer worked fine when last used. I have just purchased a serial to USB cable for the printer as the printer originally used AppleTalk.
System Profile recognises the cable. The cable chip is a Prolific 2303 which I am told is Mac compatible and that seems confirmed as System Profiler lists the USB-serial controller. So why can the OS not see the printer?
Check the HP printer drivers? Of course! So far I have downloaded and installed 2 sets of printer drivers. The first was a Laserjet and Edgline print-only.mpkg. labelled OSX. Probably too old. The second, PrinterDriverUpdate v1.1.1 (350MB) from the Apple Archive. The Archive listed the 4MP in its list of drivers contained in the package. Can’t get them to work!
I cannot get bonjour to see the HP printer! I read elsewhere that others are using the old HP 4MP on snow Leopard so Intel and system compatibility would not seem to be a problem.
I found the HP site murder to negotiate and finally downloaded from Apple and AppleUpdate. If you know the correct HP URL for Mac driver downloades that may help. So far I have run into so many dead ends on that site I could fill an A4 page with criticism.
Does anyone have suggestions which may help please?
Update. I checked the printer drivers via manual driver selection and found the HP 4 plus v2013.111 driver which worked in the past. So the driver is there, why does Bonjour not see it? I click on add printer and nothing new is found!

Helpful response as usual thank you BDAqua.
Network shows USB controller Not Connected. When I select and click window at left on USB controller (Which is red) the resulting dialogue box does not offer Apple talk. Just Modem,DNS, WINS, Proxies and PPP. Apple Talk is only offered for Ethernet or Airport.
Having had a nights sleep on this problem I conclude the serial port has died.
I think I shall return the serial cable and try connecting with a 36 pin Parallel port.
    Thank you for the thought.

I instaling my device with windows 7, but i missing SM BUS CONTROLLER , UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS (USB) CONTROLLER & unknow driver, could you give me the link for that driver?

    Hi:
I cannot find that model number anywhere.
Does it have an Intel or AMD processor?
If it has an Intel processor is it a 3rd or 4th generation core processor.
Also, please do the following and I will post the link to the driver for the unknown device once I figure out what it is...
Go to the device manager, find the Other Devices category, and click on the Unknown Device needing drivers.
Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Unknown Device window.
Now you see a Property drop down list and it is defaulted to Device Description.
Drop down on that and select the second item on the list (Hardware ID's).
Post the top string of characters you see in the window.

These are the drivers you need...
First install the amd chipset driver and reboot.  You want the first file listed on the webpage.
That will install the smbus controller.

  • RS232 Serial to USB: Connecting Electronic Scale: Software ?

I have a heavy duty 400lb capacity scale from Pelouze:
    http://global.dymo.com/enCA/Products/400lb____180_Kg_Digital_Shipping_Scale__4040.html
It has a 9 pin Serial RS232 port on the side. I was looking to connect it to a G4 for the purpose of importing the displayed weight into a software package.
Preliminary research indicates I will need two things:
    1. A Serial (male) to USB (male) adapter cable with a driver that will correctly communicate with the scale.
    2. Software to graphically display the output of the driver.
The manufacturer does give some basic information on the serial connection:
    Serial Cable Pinout:
    Pin 3 = DATA
    Pin 5 = COMMON
    Communications Protocol:
    Speed = 2400 Bps
    Word Length = 8 bits
    Parity = none
    Stop bits = 1

    Update:
Was hoping t use the Keyspan cable as I’ve seen it mentioned in several other boards for a number of years, but the POSIX API mentioned in their brochure for this product is no longer supported per the following statement form the company:
[quote]Unfortunately, this type of support is no longer offered, following the purchase of Keyspan by Tripp Lite a few years ago. It appears our marketing department failed to update the manual, deleting the Developer[quote]
So I opted for a TRENDnet product off Amazon for $12.00 that has high ratings. It uses one of the “chips” (PL-2303) you are suppose to use for this and it has Mac drivers. I believe it also has a little app used to set-up the initial connection or maybe I could use one of those BDAqua mentioned since I retain Classic for use with some old peripherals. The article below contains more information on this chip, although not this specific product:
    http://www.planet-rcs.de/article/macserialport/
Looks like the next step would be to try to whip up a application in a old copy of Realbasic using the serial class to talk to the scale via the emulated serial port.
    Thanks for the information!
