Keyspan USB IR Receiver Direct To iPod?

Can anyone recommend a way to plug my Keyspan IR receiver directly into my iPod so that it can be controlled with the remote? I realize this is a long shot, but it seems like it should be possible.

  • I've just received a defective ipod? what exactly am I supposed to do ?

I've spend my entire day fixing an ipod i received yesterday
As I'm writing, I've received my video ipod of 30gb yesterday. Back then, I followed the instructions carefully , and I installed I-tunes and Ipod updater as instructed. I transfered some of my musics and pictures in the ipod and transfered a short video that I had converted first. My computer Toshiba satellite M45-S169 is well known for its performances, so obviously it incorporates USB 2.0 ports. Actually, all seemed fine.
I woke up this morning and went out with my ipod. Arrived at the library, I felt like using a machintosh..when I turned on the screen of the MAC, at the same time my ipod froze. I was speechless, the blacklight was on and I couldn't turn it off. I did what was instructed in the support site, which means that I reseted it. Afterwards, a sad ipod icon appeared on the screen. Once again I tried what was instructed but I couldn't put my ipod into disk mode. So, I plugged it in my computer trying to restore or update it as instructed but my computer didn't recognize it anymore. So, I re-installed all the softwares, and I updated them. Then, I restarted my computer but it didn't work. Finally, I did the last possible solution; it was said on the website that it might be my battery, so I let it charge during 1 to 2 hours but it wouldn't charge.
whenever I plug the ipod in the computer I see a black screen with an apple, then it shifts to a screen with a small battery with an exclamation point, which quickly shifts into a discharged battery with a lightning bolt, which last about 1min(it depends) before shifting to the screen with a sad Ipod icon with the blacklight on, and the apple screen once again. It does it over and over ...
    Please help!!
Even though I'm pretty sure you will not have an answer considering that i have spend all my day on it.
I guess i will just ship it back with my big thanks to apple.
My Ipod and I ( A story of someone who bought a Ipod to use it only 1hours)
Should I prosecute apple ? Excuse me, i'm just crying the money I have spend months to earn in order to buy this crap. A lot of struggle to buy it,a lot of struggle to fix it, and nothing in return. It is sad, isn't it ?
I was really impatient to receive my ipod. I paid it, and I trusted apple. However, I was wrong. The first product apple that I bought just doesn't work whereas I was starting to be interested in others Apple products. I've lost my time on internet reading about the features of the ipod 5th generation 30go, which are badly detailed. I'm not complaining about the fact that the ipod is not perfect, which I understand. I'm complaining about the fact that apple don't aware his consumers of the high frequence of bugs. I don't find it quite professional. So, when a ipod froze, we think that it is uncommon before reading the articles throughout the support website and find out that it is considered as 'normal' to encounter those kind of issues.
morality: I will never buy an Apple product again.
I was stupid enough to make them engraved on the back of my ipod: 'It is wise to learn. It is god-like to create'

First, I will try to address the iPod issue: If youve tried EVERYTHING on the website, your only other option is probably to contact Apple, I recommend by phone, and informing them of the problem. You are covered by warranty and therefore they are liable to assist you. Try that and come back with a status update
Now I will address your attitude about it:Its absolutely understandable to be upset over something like this, especially with such an expensive product, but you are generalizing far to much. You may think Apple is being unproffesional by not warning potential buyers of the iPods common faults, but do you really think they would? they are out to sell these things, they arent going to point out the bad in their product. And not all iPods have problems, in fact only a fraction do. That gopes for the rest o Apples products as well. You are too hasty assuming all Apple products are junk, and one of many reasons as to why that is unfair of you is becuase you dont own any other Apple products.

    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try another cable. !
    - Try another USB port
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • I bought a usb power adapter for my ipod nano so I can plug inti a power outlet. Will this take less time to charge my ipod or same amout of time if using the computer?

I bought a USB power adapter for my ipod nano so i can take it camping and use an outlet. Will this take less time for charging or the same amount as the computer?

    Hi, Atcandela.
I've a Macally external fire/usb enclosure that powers up and mounts directly on to my PB Aluminum 1.67 laptop but the USB portion doesn't draw power.
Do you mean it mounts and works OK when connected via FireWire, but not when connected via USB? If so, that's unsurprising. I would be surprised to hear that it doesn't mount when you use the FireWire connnection, because most drives are able to get enough power from that port.
Does MacAlly not offer a cable for your drive that allows it to draw power from both your USB ports? Some manufacturers of external drives or enclosures do offer such a cable, and it's well worth buying because it's much smaller and more portable than an AC adapter. Have a look at this one from Western Digital — it might fill the bill for you.

  • Wait a minute... play music directly from ipod?

I just received a replacement ipod mini and i just restored it. Heres the thing, i used to be able to play the music that i had on my ipod directly from the ipod (it didnt have to be in itunes) but now i cant do that, all the songs are the faded-light-gray color. Can i get it back to how it was before? Does it have something to do with the new version?
intel pentium 4 2.66, 1gb ram, 250gb wd, msi mb   Windows XP

Could we get to the point at hand despite this users computer preferences...
Is there a way that I can play my iPod directly through my Computer because I have a few computers one that I use at work and one at home. Until recently I could play my iPod mini through iTunes. Now it only shows the songs that are in the Library.

I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 8 with iTunes installed. Now my iPhone 4S is no longer recognized in iTunes. Connecting the iPhone with USB sends me directly to the MS app that downloads pictures from the iPhone. Suggest this is a question of missing Apple driver for Windows 8, iTunes and iPhone. MS does not care! This seems to be a general problem with Windows 8 that a number of drivers that used to work with Windows 7 now do not work, ie. iPhone to iTunes, HTC to HTCSync, Samsung to Kies etc. I need this connection to work in order to syncronize with Outlook and my iTunes library.

Maybe it would have been a better idea to confirm that iTunes is supported in Windows 8 before buying a computer with that Operating System.
There will be a new version of iTunes released this month... no one forced you to upgrade prior to a supported version of iTunes being released.
Like the fact that you just called most of us stupid there

  • USB no longer recognised for IPOD or ext drive

I recently recieved a 5th Gen IPOD. I have installed the software that came with the unit but I cannot see the IPOD. When I check the Device Manager I see an "Unknown Device". Also I can now no longer see my external USB backup drive. It also has "Unknown Device" instead of Mass Storage Device. When I go to reinstall either of these items I get an error:
"The Installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance"
I have removed all usb refs in the Dev Manager and restarted. I have removed these in Safe Mode and restarted. Each time I get the same Unknow Device. My setup is:
    Windows 2000 pro, SP4
    2.4GHz P4 on a Gigabyte board
    512 Ram
Previous to the ipod install my backup drive worked perfectly. It seems like my USB drivers have somehow been corrupted.
I have tired forcing these in as Microsoft Mass Storage Devices but I still get the yellow exclamation mark.
I have also tried to access a 256Mb MP3 player but I get the same error.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks
New IPOD user but getting frustrated.

I got the following reply from Billyd at www.everythingusb.com
"Turn the PC off for awhile - about 30 minutes. Unplug it from the wall too. After the 30 minutes are up, open the case and remove the motherboard battery for a few seconds. Put it back in and reboot.
If you know how to get into BIOS setup, do that and disable Legacy USB. If you're overclocking, don't.
Next, try a Safe Mode cleanup:

After scouring the web for a solution and reinstalling my OS, the above solution worked. I have not reinstalled my IPOD yet, want to get everything back up and running, then ghost first. My external hd was recognised straight away and I my machine recognises my 256mb mp3 players.
Also found one of the ground connectors for my front usb was very loose. This may have caused the initial usb issue by connecting my ipod to this usb port. Will see how it goes.

  • Is there a usb 3.0 cable for iPods?

I was wondering if there are USB 3.0 cables for iPods. Any feedback would be great

No. Apple only sells one cable for the iDevices.
The iDevices will work with a USB port but it will be not faster than a USB 2 port.

  • Adding USB IR Receiver to Mac Pro

I've added a USB IR receiver to the Mac Pro but can't get the Mac to recognize the input from the receiver. The IR receiver blinks and shows it's receiving input from my Apple Remote but the Mac Pro does nothing. I'd like to use the Apple Remote for iTunes and Plex....maybe Front Row.
Thanks and help would be great.

There are only a couple of IR receivers that have drivers for the Mac and are compatible with the Apple Remote. Which one are you using? Here is a page that describes some alternatives:
    <http://twistedmelon.com/mira/hardware.html>
The RF remotes that came with the ATI all-in-wonder video cards also work with the Mac. I've got one set up for Front Row, with some specially programmed keys to open/close the DVD drive, and power up or put the computer to sleep.

Make sure your headphones are plugged all the way in. The white plastic on the headset jack should be flush with the body of the nano.

  • Sync USB thumb drive as if iPod?

    Summary:
I want to use one of my USB thumb drives as a music library that can work on my car's audio system. What is the easiest way to do this?
    Background:
My brand new car stereo can play music off of an iPod. This is convenient, but I don't want to just leave my ipod touch in my car. My car stereo can also play music right off of a USB thumbdrive. So is there a way to sync all my play lists on my USB drive? This way I can just leave it in my car and not worry about theft, my ipod melting in the sun, etc.
I don't think iTunes can do this, so maybe there's a script somewhere? It will have to prune out the m4p files since obviously I can't authorize my car stereo to play them... (grrr DRM...)
    Considered Solutions:
    1) Obviously, I can just copy files over manually, and write a perl script to remove .m4p files. But I'd like to get playlists...
    2) I could get the 32 gb USB drive I saw, which can hold all my stuff, but then that's too much data to browse while driving my car.
    3) I could manually export each playlist, and write my script to parse and copy those files... but that would still require me to manually export the playlists (so it's not automatic).
    4) I could just try to remember to bring my ipod with me whenever i go somewhere, but i'd rather just leave a usb stick in my car. Then there's nothing to worry about, and nothing to forget.
    5) I could plug in my ipod, and see if there's a way to access it's file system and then just mirror the usb drive off of the ipod... but i looks like the ipod is hidden in the file directory.
    6) If any Apple people see this, I'd appreciate them thinking about allowing iTunes to treat a USB drive as a limited iPod.

I have the same issue. I have not had a problem copying album folders to the thumb drive from the itunes library but the problem I have is that most of my files are not in the mp3 format but in lossless or AAC.
I have been selecting the tunes I want and, after changing my import settings to high level mp3, selecting "create MP3 version" under the advanced menu. The issue is not wanting to duplicate my library. If I were to burn that selection of non-MP3 files to a CD specifying a MP3 disk I don't get the duplicates. Burning the disks and then copying the files from there to the stick works but you have to put in the album folders manually and that is a lot of disks to burn for an 8G stick. I tried using DVD's but you can only burn a data disk in that format and no MP3 conversion.
A lot of new cars come with the USB option and the usb flash drives are cheap. There will be a rapidly increasing number of people looking to get a playlist to MP3 format onto flash drives. Apple needs to give us a tweak here.
