Keystore tampered with problems on Linux
Hi,
I am running a couple of java applications that communicate via HTTPS/SSL. When these applications are run under Win32, they run perfectly with no errors. However, if they are run under Linux, with the exact same certificate files that worked just fine under Windows, I get an exception error that states that the keystore has been tampered with or the password is incorrect. Has anyone seen this before?
These are ascii files, are they not? (The ones with ---BEGIN CERTIFICATE---/---END CERTIFICATE--- lines?)
If so, try stripping the DOS newlines (^Ms) from the file (if you have just copied the file over). Don't know if this has any effect.

SSL Init failed: Keystore was tampered with, or password was incorrect
Hi all,
I encountered the following error while I try to get the output stream to write out the content into an HTTPS connection.
java.net.SocketException: Default SSL context init failed: Keystore was tampered with, or password was incorrect
at javax.net.ssl.DefaultSSLSocketFactory.createSocket(Unknown Source)
at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsClient.afterConnect(Unknown Source)
at sun.net.www.protocol.https.AbstractDelegateHttpsURLConnection.connect(Unknown Source)
at sun.net.www.protocol.http.HttpURLConnection.getOutputStream(Unknown Source)
at sun.net.www.protocol.https.HttpsURLConnectionImpl.getOutputStream(Unknown Source)Below is my code to achieve the sending of the content to the HTTPS connection.
public void sendMessage(Properties headers, byte[] content) throws Exception
try
addRequestHeaders(headers);
_conn.setRequestMethod("POST");
_conn.setDoInput(true);
_conn.setDoOutput(true);
OutputStream os = _conn.getOutputStream();//this line lead to the exception
os.write(content);
_respCode = _conn.getResponseCode();
_respMsg = _conn.getResponseMessage();
catch (IOException ex)

}Due to the server is deployed in clustered env, I have put the truststore and keystore in a shared folder which allows the nodes to access. Thus in my code I have set the truststore, keystore location and the truststore, keystore password in the System properties as follow.
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore", getKeyStore());
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", getKeyStorePass());
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", getTrustStore());
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword", getTrustStore());The getKeyStore() and getTrustStore() will be returned the path to the shared folder which contain the truststore/keystore respectively.
The keystore tampered error only happened intermitently. I am sure that my keystore and truststore password is set correctly.
Could I know that is the keystore designed in a way that it can be accessed by multiple thread? will there be any file locking on the keystore while two thread trying to init the HTTPS and eventually cause the keystore tampered problem?
ThanksIn my case, I am certain that all fields are correct, because the code works half the time. The thing is my code is running inside Tomcat (as a servlet); I am noticing that whenever I update my Jar with any code change and restart Tomcat, I am hitting this issue intermittently. Another update-and-restart sometimes solves the problem & my connection establishment is successful.
There are 2 key things I would like to know:
1) Difference b/w the exception messages "<span class="jive-subject"> Keystore was tampered with, or password was incorrect
" and " failed to decrypt safe contents entry ".
2) Whether any caching is going on because of Tomcat being in the picture (although I am not at all sure why this should happen).
Would love to get through with this ASAP. Please let me know your thoughts if any.
Thanks,
Vivek -
PatchManger-2.1 error: "keystore was tampered with"
On solaris9-x86 with PatchManager 2.0 installed, installing cluster patch from 09/30/2005 appears to have clobbered something related to PatchManager as attempts to perform an Update Patch List (from the web interface) fails with the following message:
An unexpected error occured in the management provider. The error was com.sun.patchpro.util.CannotConnectException: Cannot connect to retrieve patchdb: Default SSL context init failed: Keystore was tampered with, or password was incorrect.
After the cluster patch installation, PM is now 2.1I've solved the problem after finding this thread
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=136&threadID=488368
Is seems to be a bug in the jdk
(if you change the keystore password you get that error)
and the work around is explained in
the previous thread
I've solved my own problem regenerating the domain

hi everybody,
I've a big problem with XML on Linux, in details I see my program stopping on Linux at the instruction
XMLReader xr = XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader("org.apache.crimson.parser.XMLReaderImpl");
and it's strange because on Windows it runs and there aren't problems about permissions on files, does anyone knows what to do?
thanks in advance!
StefanoWhat happens on that line? I'm assuming you get some kind of error or exception.
Make sure the JAR file for Crimson is in your classpath. -
Booting problems with systemd, lvm, linux-ck-corex
Hi everyone,
since Friday I got some complications while booting my system.
I use systemd, pulseaudio, bluez, network-manger, gnome and gdm as login manager.
Every partition (root, home) without the boot and crypted swap partition is within a lvm volume group.
Xserver with gdm starts but the login mask does not appear. (only the background, mousepointer, topbar with clock, energy etc. are shown)
Switching to the getty2 works, but after typing username and password, nothing happens.
Only some messages from systemd are poping up, saying it couldn't mount my home partition (timeout).
That explains why I couldn't login.
Shutting down the system via the powerkey works.
Starting via a system rescue disk, mounting everything (including my home partition) and chrooting works fine.
Journalctl shows that there are more problems.
The network-manager times out.
Gnome-shell with consolekit-daemon and Pulseaudio fails to communicate with bluez over the dbus.

If you're using an initrd, you may not have the appropriate modules installed. If you're not using an initrd, then the kernel probably needs LVM support compiled in (not as a module) and could be solved by fixing that. I have never used the ck-patchset, but this should give you an additional data point.
Also comment=systemd.automount will be deprecated soon as I understand it; if you have a need for automounting, x-systemd.automount should be used instead. -
Keystore was tampered with, or password was incorrect
Hi Experts:
I am using Apache 1.3.26, JBoss 3.0.0 (embedded with Catalina) on IBM Unix.
When I start my JBoss Server, I get following message wonder why:

It seems that major issues is "KEYSTORE WAS TAMPERED or PASSWORD was INCORRECT" - I have no idea what this means.
Can anyone throw light on this please?
THANKS!my first guess is that you forgot to add the Factory entry within the CoyoteSSL connector that specifies where the key file is found as well as the password. can you verify that?

Installation problem on Linux Slackware 7.1 (Oracle 8i)
I try install Oracle 8i Enterprise in Linux Slackware 7.1 (kernel 2.2.16), but the runInstaller don't work.
I read the installation manuals and make all steps, but the runInstaller don't work.
I get this message:
./runInstaller
The Java RunTime Environment was not found at bin/jre. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.8 or higher and try again.
: No such file or directory
I try --> ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3 /usr/local/java
and --> ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3 /usr/local/jre
and put in PATH --> /usr/local/jre/bin
Nothing work's.
Somebody can help me ?????
Thank's ....Hello!
I also tried to install Oracle 8.1.6.1 (after giving up the 8.0.5 installation due to segmentation faults all over..), it also failed.
After trying to install Oracle 8.1.6.1 on RedHat 7.0 and it still crashed, i sent a mail to some guru that wrote the oracle-how-to document for redhat, here is what he replied.
My guess is that this also applies to the newest slackware version, because i presume that slackware 7.0 also use the newest glibc libraries;
Thanks for the feedback.
Oracle 8.1.6 does not work under Red Hat >Linux 7. Yes, that's the problem
that I mentioned in the doc--you get to 80% >and the DBCA crashes and the
Oracle executables die.
I've heard, but I haven't tried it myself, >that if you install the latest
glibc errata (2.1.94) then the DBCA >completes but the Oracle executables
still die. The DBCA problem was apparently >a Java issue that is fixed in
the errata. But you're still out of luck >since the exes won't work.
It might appear that this is a problem with >Red Hat Linux 7. But it appears
that it is a problem with some assumptions >that Oracle made, assumptions
that worked with glibc 2.1.3 (the C library >included with RHL 6.2) but which

The best advice I can give at this point is >to install and run Oracle on
Red Hat Linux 6.2. Hopefully Oracle will >address the glibc issues with the
8.1.7 release.
ChrisI then installed Orace on RedHat 6.1 and it worked like a dream.
Maybe you guys should try your luck on an earier version of slackware?
Hope that helped...

I have an iPhone4S 64Gb, which I bought from the Apple Store in Covent Garden in December 2011. Recently it developed a problem where it won't shut down (it restarts itself) and the battery life has deteriorated significantly. Having read about this in this Forum, this seems to be a known issue, and a replacement is needed.
Sure enough, the Genius Bar at Covent Garden took one look at it and wanted to replace it. But then there was a problem. Apparently, one of the serial numbers on the phone (the chassis) does not match the ones on sim tray and software. The Genius (Barry) and his manager (Adam) both said that this could only be a result of tampering or non-Apple servicing. They say the chassis part comes from a batch which originated in Bulgaria.
What??!!
My phone has not been touched by anybody but me since I bought it in December. There's no way I would let a non-authorised dealer touch it - I know full well that it would void the warranty, wouldn't trust it, and anyway I've always had a really good Genius Bar experience. More importantly, it's been fine - no need.
So, what then? Their hypothesis is that somebody has tampered with my phone without my knowledge. As is probably true for many iPhone users, my phone is not far behind my wedding tackle in the extent to which I am attached to it, indeed it spends a lot more time in my hand and line of sight. The idea that somebody could have had access to my phone for long enough to have opened it up and resealed it, having changed parts, without my knowing, is completely absurd. I just don't believe it.
And why would they? If you're going to steal a phone, then steal it. Barry's theory is that some people steal legitimate serial numbers in order to qualify for Apple servicing. Really? Wouldn't they still have a phone with mismatched serial numbers that Apple then wouldn't touch? It seems utterly far-fetched.
In short, I have no idea how Apple managed to supply me with what appears to be a dodgy handset. Supply chain failure, admin failure, I don't know. I know that it hasn't been 'serviced' by anybody, but I can tell that Barry and Adam don't believe me. They believe that the fact of mismatched serial numbers are incontrovertible evidence of tampering. (I'm minded to point out that they opened up the phone out of my sight, hence becoming the only people with the opportunity - and expertise - to do exactly what they're alleging has been done).
The issue is now with Corporate Customer Servcies. I'm not hugely optimistic.
Has anybody out there experienced anything similar? Can anybody offer any theories (preferably without straying into corporate conspiracy fantasies) as to how the numbers may have become mismatched?
Grateful for any help.I'm still in "recovery mode" after a huge fight with our local Applestore.
About 6 weeks ago, my wife's 13 month old iPhone 4S developed the "won't turn off" fault and was replaced, out of warranty, for a fee of £139 and with a 90 day warranty.
About two weeks after that we realised that there was a sound problem when trying to use Facetime (the person on the other end couldn't hear us) but as we have ipads in the household, we didn't immediately persue it and assumed it was down to some setting problem.
Two weeks ago my wife was shooting some video with the phone, something we hadn't done before and on playback there was no sound. We realised then that the phone probably had hardware issues and arranged to take it back to the store for repair or replacement.
I wasn't anticipating any problem when they said that it was a hardware issue and assumed that a replacement would be supplied.
They looked inside an found that a dozen screws were missing and all the EM shielding that's normally screwed in place was also missing. On this basis, they refused to repair or replace. Things got a little tense after that.
I KNOW that we didn't remove any parts. I find it impossible to believe that even if a third party had obtained access to my wife's phone, that they would have opened the phone, removed the screws and EM screens (including the one that has the QR code serial number), put it back together and then returned it to its original position.
As I repeated ad nauseum to the manager of the store, the only possible other option was that the phone was supplied in that condition. After an hour and a half of arguing, sometimes quite loudly and refusing to leave the store until they replaced the handset, they caved in.
I don't believe that Apple quality control is 100% accurate. In fact I'm sure that no manufacturer's QC is. How our handset slipped through the net I don't know but it did.
I don't know whether this story will help you in any way but I hope you get your problem resolved -
Unicode filename problems in linux
I'm running into a problem in linux (Ubuntu). The following test code will throw an exception at the "FileInputStream fis... " line with the file has a unicode filename. However, Windows passes this without problems.
try {
File dir = new File("a directory that exists");
File[] files = dir.listFiles(); //get file list
for (int i = 0; i < files.length; ++i) {
System.out.println("file " + files.getAbsolutePath());
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(files[i]);
} catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("Exception: " + e.getMessage());
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!But the characters are actually chinese. And since
it's on Ubuntu, it would be in UTF-8 encoding
wouldn't it?
The characters display fine in ubuntu but when I try
to read them in using FileInputStream, it fails for
some filenames with strange characters.
I just don't understand why some characters make it
fail and others are fine. It seems that it should
all work or all not work? Perhaps I'm wrong.On my Fedora Core 6,
the result of
echo $LANG
is:
ja_JP.UTF-8
And I tried your program on a directory that has 百度MP3全.txt file in it.
import java.io.*;
public class AlsKdj{
public static void main(String[] args){
try {
File dir = new File(".");
File[] files = dir.listFiles();
for (int i = 0; i < files.length; ++i) {
System.out.println("file " + files.getAbsolutePath());
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(files[i]);
System.out.println(" " + fis.toString());
catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
The output from the program is:
file /root/test/./AlsKdj.class
java.io.FileInputStream@1a46e30
file /root/test/./百度MP3全.txt
java.io.FileInputStream@3e25a5
file /root/test/./bbs.txt
java.io.FileInputStream@19821f
file /root/test/./WMP.txt
java.io.FileInputStream@addbf1As shown above, the result is normal if LANG is really UTF-8.
My Java version is:
java version "1.6.0_01"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_01-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_01-b06, mixed mode, sharing) -
can some one help me? I have been trying to update my MAC and it will not download because this message come up
(The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs.)For anyone that comes across this. I managed to fix the problem. It had something to do with the date on my computer. Mavericks installer apparently does a date check of some sort and that is where the error is coming from. Open terminal and check the system date. It may be wrong. Another poster in the forums told me how to to check the date and change it. Click here for the link to the explanation. Be careful because the date is in a weird format.

Experts say it been tampered with...
My wifes i mac pro (2009)-black keys OSX-Lion has had many strange thing happening to her settings display mail system and network connections to Verizon. She has also had duplicate issues on her iphone.
This is the 3rd "apple experts analysis:
Maria and I spent time restoring her music and photos, working on organizing her photos by creating a good workflow, removing confusing duplicates, cleaning up unnecessary files an folders on her computer, recovering emails, talking about how things are synced and some more general tutoring.
We talked about security, talked more about her situation which she explained in further detail, explored her computer and checked many settings and spots for foul play or erroneous settings.
The end result and diagnosis: 100%, her computer is being tampered with by someone other than herself. There is no way for Maria to secure her computer and she should stop trying to spend money and time to do so. It's become clear that her computer is being tampered with either remotely or in person or both. It's become clear that the attacker is someone who knows Maria as they are not after financial gain nor after stealing anything off the computer. I believe they are only doing this to toy with her. Because this is the case, and because the attacker has personal knowledge or access to her computer, there is truly no way to secure her computer. It's unfortunate.
Please note, none of this is certain, it is only my professional opinion. At this point, backing up consistently is her only course of action until she discovers the person that is tampering with her computer and solves the problem by solving the issue with that person.
Regarding your question about your home router, I think it is a non issue. Your home router is not the problem. It is certainly an access point for someone to take control of the computer, but so is being on the internet anywhere. For this reason, the router is inconsequential.
My response:
BUT, when a conclussion to an issue is the following statements "The end result and diagnosis: 100%, her computer is being tampered with by someone other than herself." and "until she discovers the person that is tampering with her computer and solves the problem by solving the issue with that person.
1. It not me
2. Its not my son
3. Its not my daughter
4. IT MAY BE REMOTELY. "not really sure"
I've been in business for over 30 years and when I give a person a document that they are paying good money I have my t's crossed and i's dotted.
This isn't!
If in fact you are 100 % sure it is tampering then HOW, what device, what program, what techniques is this "hacker" accessing her computer even after she has change all pass words and security setting?
And how good of a hacker does this person have to be to do all that is done on the computer?
Any help would be helpful. Spent way to much for thes answers and no solutionsThe "analysis" contains nothing to suggest that the computer has been tampered with; that's merely a conclusion, without any supporting evidence. It also contains the nonsensical statement, "There is no way for Maria to secure her computer and she should stop trying to spend money and time to do so," which could not have been written by anyone who knows anything about IT security. That strongly suggests to me that the "analysis" is completely worthless.
To secure the computer, take the following steps:
1. Back up all data using Time Machine.
2. Erase the boot volume and reinstall Lion.
3. Go through the initial setup process, importing only user data and settings, not applications or other files.
4. Install only trustworthy third-party software from original media, by download from the developer's own file server, or by purchase from the Mac App Store.
5. Activate FileVault and choose a secure login password. Never write down this password, and never disclose it to anyone, including Apple. Keep in mind that if you forget the password, your data will be lost beyond any hope of recovery (unless you have unencrypted backups, which somewhat defeats the purpose.)
6. Do not activate Remote Login or Screen Sharing.
7. Do not connect unknown peripherals, such as USB devices, that might contain a hardware keylogger.
You'll then have something close to military- or diplomatic-grade security for your data. -
ATT says my 3G MicroCell has been tampered with!!
I have had this unit for 3 months. It worked for the first two months and then stopped working. I called ATT to troubleshoot or replace unit and they said it was tampered with and that there was nothing they could do. MY UNIT IS BRAND NEW. AND NEVER USED OTHER THAN PLUGGING IT IN AND UNPLUGGING IT. I read that 6 pins come flying out to set this tamper alarm off. My unit is in perfect condition. If ATT thinks they can use this as an excuse to not return a device I am literally appallled. I have been a customer for over 10 years. David
Yeah something is not quite right. By brand new, did you buy it directly from AT&T or did you purchase it "new" off of eBay?
The anti-tamper clips are inside and set in such a way so that if the unit is opened, it is very difficult to reseat them which renders the unit useless. The clips (at least on the white models) can come loose if the unit is dropped on the floor or knocked over (the cat knocked it over for example).
So.....
New from AT&T? IF so, which model (white or black)
Does it rattle if you shake it gently?
How did it stop working? (what is the problem).
I believe the warranty on brand new, purchased from AT&T is one year so you would certainly qualify for a warranty replacement if it is a defective unit. -
HT200006 Apple wont fix Iphone because 'been tampered with'
Im really struggling with what or where to go from here... And it seems a lot of people are having the same problem... My iphone 5c is still under warranty and after taking it to the Apple shop 3 hours of waiting the man comes back and says sorry I cant replace the phone as its been tampered with... I was given no proof or written evidence to tell me why/how or anything... What am I to do now? Is this apple just trying to pass my warranty on? It seems apple are very good at selling there products but not taking responsibility afterwards? Anyone had this issue and what was done? Ive been told I need to have it collected and taken in for testing... Im unsure whether this is just a waste of time to have my phone returned and be told again its been tampered with.... Well yes by your staff!!

I am getting this error: "The key could not be obtained. You may need to use the -keystore argument with the specified keystore type." when trying to create an apk file using adt. I am following the steps mentioned here: http://blogs.adobe.com/ria/2010/10/28/creating-an-apk-file-using-flashbuilder-4-0/
Could a self save from premiere cause the problem? By this i don't mean the autosave.
Autosave is the only kind of 'self save', and is not likely to 'cause' project corruption.
thnx for your reply. My first question came from a remark of Gakhue:
"I'm using CS6 and I got that warning, I copied my project file on usb stick and re-opened in a different computer using CS5, it then gave me a few warnings about changing the name and saving it to auto save fault, I clicked away and said yes to each one"
So i wondered how he did it
The second question came from the fact that my last save was from 17 minutes after i left my studio. And i am not talking about an autosave. It was the main save of the corrupted videofile. And since i did not do it myself, the only option left is that Premiere did it? Or that premiere does not use the internal Mac clock and is on a different time. Which is not the case (just tested).
